Why are anons upset that Sutherland voiced Big Boss in MGS GZ & V?
Yes, Hayter is fantastic but his voice is Snake's voice, not Big Boss.
I dont see what the fuss is about.
Hayter was Big Boss in MGS3 sooo...
Fact of the matter is, Hayter is iconic. If you play an MGS game, you damn well want to hear Snakes original voice, even if it is a tad cheesy. Thats how I feel atleast.
As a long time fan I'm willing to admit that Hayter's voice is actually shit. I think most people like it because of nostalgia. I'm fine with Sutherland as Big Boss and I think it's great that he does both the facial and motion animations. He's had a lot of experience with that from being in 24 so it really feels like a logical choice.
Hayter said he won't voice a Mod because he wants Konami to approach him. He's doing this because of his pride.
Snake and big boss are different people, therefore different voice actors.
>mfw Hayter releases a mod for PC that replaces all of SHESURFIFE Sutherlands lines with his
Still the best.
i will play it in moon language, but maybe the day will come when you understand that Hayters voice doesnt match to Big Boss anymore and Sutherland is now superior
you just have to accept this
people who are upset are mostly white-knighting for hayter due to his story or some pretty rude and unprofessional treatment from konami. at the same time that treatment and disrespect to such an icon is so unbelievable many simply don't believe it, and insist (not entirely unreasonably, given this is kojima we're talking about) that there is a ruse occurring.
Not the dude you were replying to but his voice is definitely a complete wreck in MGS4, I know he said it was to match aging solid snake but it was pretty distracting. Hayter is a competent actor/voice actor from what I've heard/seen but his snake voice gets sillier each game, MGS1 was definitely his finest snake hour
>Hayter is fantastic but his voice is Snake's voice, not Big Boss
This I agree with. I like Hayter's voice, but theyve established BBs voice changed as he ages, as seen in the ending of MGS4.
In my opinion, they should have used Richard Doyle, as they already established him as BBs older voice.
Now, since theres Sutherland in the mix, Big Boss will have had three VAs, and Im not even sure Sutherland is a good middle ground between Hayter and Doyle. If anything, they should have picked a voice that was more of a transition between the two.
LOOKS ITS NOT HARD TO UNDERSTAND
ITS GONNA FUCKING GO FULL CIRCLE
WE ARE GOING TO PLAY AS SOLID SNAKE VOICED BY HAYTER IN THE *NEXT* MGS
ITS GONNA BE A REMAKE OF METAL GEAR
IF HAYTER VOICED BB AND SS IT WOULD BE FUCKED
SO KOJIMA GOT A NEW MAN FOR BB
THIS i kind of agree with...
The guy who voices Raiden cryptically revealed late last month that Hayter is still involved, so I guess it's just been a ruse that hayter had been replaced.
Hayter could easily voice young SS and old BB.
They sound different enough and a few digital effects could be added to help separate them.
The thing in question isnt why he chose someone new, but why he chose Sutherland over someone more appropriate.
I doubt it, MGS4 had an entirely different voice actor for when
Solid is approached by BB in the last chapterit would be too silly for hayter to voice both in the same game anyway
>Why are anons upset that Sutherland voiced Big Boss in MGS GZ & V
>Sutherland voiced Big Boss in MGS GZ & V
>Sutherland MGS GZ & V
The fuck you chatting?
Big boss = Venom snake
He voices Big Boss in three major entries to the series.
The voice is iconic and Sutherland's performance sounds generic.
Don't lie, anon. The fuss is quite obvious and justified.
Gray Fox is unlockable in Deja Vu out of no where
It's super obvious with that kind of shit so seriously don't look at my spoiler or watch the video if you don't want le epin twist in MGSV to be spoiled for you
>a fan favorite character is playable in a mission emulating mgs1
Gee I really wonder why.
A common symptom of PTSD is to relive a traumatic event over and over again. Snake having PTSD after the events of Ground Zeroes seems pretty likely, especially given what we've seen in TPP trailers. By releasing such a short game with replayability, ad a lot of time to replay it, I think Kojima is trying to put us in Snake's shoes. He's created a game where we the player end up reliving the same traumatic event many times. The descriptions of the other missions also make them sound like they may have happened, just not at Camp Omega. Why would they be at Camp Omega? Because Snake's memory of them has been conflated with his memory of Camp Omega due to the trauma of what happened.
Now, if my theory here is right, there's something I expect to see happen in TPP. I expect to see the game revisit Camp Omega in some way or another. I don't think we'll literally go back, but I think Kojima might make use of our familiarity of Camp Omega the same way he used our familiarity of MGS1 in MGS2, but for a different purpose. I think he will sneak in elements of Camp Omega at times that Snake isn't psychologically stable. Parts of the game will be Snakes perception of them, not what they actually are. I suspect that this will also be the explanation for some of the more supernatural elements we've seen in the trailers.
>treating a fan made theory video as canon
Every theory this guy has made pertaining to MGSV has turned out completely wrong so far. The Metal Gear fanbase is the fucking worst.
>mfw all these butthurt hayters
The fact BB and Snake are different people.
Also its a Japanese culture thing, when you work with a company, you work for it for life and have to take pride in it.
Changing companies is disrespectful and frowned up on.
Sutherland has contributed 2 things:
1. Lines that Big Boss should be saying going to Kaz
2. Voice acting that drifts between the awful -"KEPTCHUWAITINGHUH?!" and most of the lines in Ground Zeroes - and the fantastic "I won't scatter your ashes to the heartlesss sea, I will always be with you." It's so inconsistant.
I know a lot of people don't like Hayter because of Peace Walker and MGS4 (which I have no issue with given the aging thing) but if the net result is paying more money to have Big Boss be nearly mute and all over the place, then I'd rather have Hayter.
Because Kiefer is a faggot and I don't like him, I mean the guy never played any MGS game, and possibly haven't even played games, he even said he was voicing the "Bad Boss", how to trust someone like him? Hayter can go eat a dick, I couldn't care less about him, but Kojima should have found a better voice for Big Boss.
David Hayter is a Hollywood screenwriter, he's living the dream Kojima always wanted but will never have. I'm guessing the change was out of spite, but also Kojima's pathetic obsession with celebrity actors.
But the reason people are upset, I'm guessing for the most part is that Snake's voice is one of his more distinctive characteristics. It's like Nintendo came out and said Mario from here on out will no longer have a mustache.
I like pic relateds theory better. I'm sure it has a shiton of holes though. Also it makes me suspicious about the whole Keifer voicing BB for the entire game, I mean, he hardly has any lines and you'd think Konami would squeeze every small word Keifer has in his volcabuary before having to pay him a fuck ton of money
This was my first choice.
He's a reasonably priced voice actor, not a Hollywood budget actor, but it also allows Hayter to be "replaced" with no huttburt because he's being replaced by Big Boss' older voice actor.
I have no idea m8.
I game mainly on PC & WiiU.
>hayter is fantastic
nope, he sounds like a regular guy doing a shitty batman impression
Sutherland is 100% better
There's something wrong with that though, both Snakes in the top are from Phantom Pain, most of the differences it says are between the Punished Snake (horn) and the Ground Zeroes Snake (no horn) so it's safe to assume that the Snake post GZ, the one with the horn, is actually another Snake and not Big Boss, mostly because 1. Big Boss that appears on Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 doesn't have any scars or horn, and neither the one that appears in MGS4, but that could be because he's using another body, and 2. The reason Kojima splitted the game in half is actually because you play as two different people, he's making sure we think those are 2 different games but changing some aspects of the game, the HUD, mechanics, etc.
Yeah, I never checked for the source because I feel I would get pissed if I really listen to him say that, but come to think of it I'm pretty I saw someone on /v/ talking about it, actually more than once.
What you shitlords don't understand is that Kiefer has massive tallent, but it's not him who decides how his lines are going to sound.
Go watch Phone Booth and you will see how articulate his voice is and can be when used to full effect. Not his fucking fault that Kojamas the Gook wants him to sound so flat and minimalistic.
Maybe it's time you stopped sucking Kojima's dick and realized that he is a wannabe hack.
I got half way through.
I can't read the name Kaz and take a post seriously anymore.
Kaz is giving a whole story about Paz surviving.
Big Boss responds, "She survived?"
The lack of Big Boss speaking also makes him an idiot, because everyone is explianing things to him.
"HEY BIG BOSS, I KNOW YOU ARE A LEGENDARY SOLDIER BUT BINOCULARS LET YOU SEE FAR AWAY THINGS!"
He had talent, nowadays Kiefer is reduced to alcohol and cocaine, he's pretty much done, everybody who works with him says that too, he always shows up drunk or late. The exact same thing happened to Charlie Sheen, he was brilliant in Platoon, but nowadays he sucks.
I honestly feel that Big Boss should've had a different voice in the first place.
>But, but, mah Hayter..
Hayter is Solid Snake. Not even Keifer can/should replace this, but we're talking Big Boss here.
>But, but, Snake is a clone of Big Boss, so they should sound the same.
Shouldn't Liquid and Solidus have the same fucking voice then?
>But, but mah nostalgia...
Look there's not a damn thing wrong with Hayter, and there's not a damn thing wrong with Keifer. Wanna see a complete fucking disaster of voice recasting, check out the Silent Hill HD Collection sometime. It could've been a LOT worse.
>Freddie Faggot Jr got butthurt and accused him of being unprofessional
>suddenly it has to be true despite everyone else saying that Kiefer's an extremely professional and kind guy
>HEY BIG BOSS, I KNOW YOU ARE A LEGENDARY SOLDIER BUT BINOCULARS LET YOU SEE FAR AWAY THINGS!
It's the obligatory tutorial for beginners.
who make up the majority of the market. See: Nintendo Wiiwould complain.
>using fake fan made shit as evidence
It's not even in the sense of the tutorial, Big Boss doesn't know anything that is going on.
Kaz briefs him on missions and about everything, Huey goes behind his back for the inspection and then tells him how they hide Zeke and get their stories straight.
Big Boss is basically a low end grunt or, at least, the game presents him in that way. You could literally replace Big Boss with any MSF soldier and it would make more sense to the character. In fact, it would make more sense for him to be there during the inspection since he's supposed to be in charge of the place.
Big Boss was only voiced by someone else at the end of MGS4, which was decades later. GZ takes place a few months after PW, and he has a completely different voice.
Kojima's excuse is that Big Boss is older. The above discredits that, unless he really didn't give a shit about Metal Gear, and if anything, he sounds less old now. And the two actors are almost the same age.
That being said, I'm already over it. I'll miss Hayter, but oh well. I forgive Kojima for that because the gameplay looks great and I'm glad it's coming to PC.
I don't like it partially because I don't think Kiefer's a good voice actor, but also because I feel like he's the reason Snake barely talks in any of the footage we've seen. Codec conversations are out, and in the intro for the Afghanistan mission, Snake doesn't say a single word. I think part of that is they can't get Kiefer in the recording booth for long, so they just don't give Snake many lines. It's such a conspicuous absence too, given how much voice over is in the series.
I wasn't going to buy the game with Kiefer but now that it's coming to PC we can play it in Japanese. I don't mind it in JP since I played a lot of the PW demo with that language and the dub was pretty good.
Hayter, I know you read these threads, I'm sorry that even on a website where someone interviewed you for Devil's Mile, which did not mention anything outside the films you helped do, the first comment in the comment section was about your role as Solid Snake.
You're a good actor and a good director.
Shall probably give Devil's Mile a try.
On the subject of MGS, while I think Hayter should not do an old Big Boss, no offense to Hayter, but I don't think you voice is cut out for it, and if it is, we haven't heard much to see because the casting person for MGS a shit.
What was wrong with Doyle or Cygan?
Both had amazing voices, instead we got, no offense to Sutherland, a man who sounds like he's from a generic CoD game.
Dude he tried his hardest to sound like a guy in his 60's who's spent his entire life smoking and on the edge of death. His throat was killing him for months after he was done recording all the lines, I find that dedication.
I never got all the hate for his performance in PW, besides the fact that he sounded exactly like Old Snake, rather than BB.
Because the game tries to take things serious and have Big Boss actually have a somewhat deep speech and it sounds fucking ridiculous out of Hayter's voice. It would have sounded perfectly fine coming out of Cygan or Doyle.
I knew this would happen.
Fine, you have a view on ownership of guns, doesn't make the guy a better or worse voice actor for it.
Why does every Hayter thread turn into guns or political views?
The raspiness made no sense and sounded dumb and forced. The worst part is that it flits in and out without reason.
That being said, I still think he did a pretty good job. I liked the Chico scene, I liked the final cutscene. It still fits the character, but the voice director needed to not have Hayter do the raspy throat thing.
I think it would have been better to see what Hayter would be able to do, and if it wasn't good enough, at least bring in Doyil or something. From the sound of it, Kojima has been a massive dick to Hayter throughout all of this. I'm more rooting for Hayter because of him being wronged, rather than any skill Sutherland might have.
Hayter has done a lot for the series, and I honestly don't think it would have sold as well if it didn't have the iconic voice. 100% serious, people knew the look, the bandana, and the voice.
That and Hayter loved his job, he took immense pride as the character and even though he did question Kojima on things, obviously liked the story.
To replace him, fine, some people need to be let go.
To not say a word, to not acknowledge the man, to not even have a bit of a farewell thing, god, even a small GZ mission where Hayter's in it as a cameo.
The fucker didn't even tell Hayter he was dropped.
>You know what else is childhood?
Not being able to grow up.
That's fucking terrible, it doesn't even sound like he's a video game character.
VENOM SNAKE IS NOT THE REAL BIG BOSS
HAYTER IS VOICING THE REAL BIG BOSS IN THE GAME
HE IS IN ON KOJIMA'S BIG RUSE
