Vidya predictions thread.
No shills / brand loyalists allowed just realistic assertions.
Some time in mid 2015 these consoles will be officially dead in the water.
>B-but muh Halo
>B-but muh pantyquest
>B-but muh Smash!
These consoles are arguably dead already but they'll be long forgotten by the end of next year for sure.
PS4 is and will remain the console of choice for casuals this gen and like it or not, it will have some great exclusive but probably nothing that will sway brand loyalists.
3DS is and will be the handheld of choice for all this gen.
PC is and will always be the master race. In terms of gaming rigs sales this gen it will see a slight spike in sales thanks to jaded consolefags but wont come close to the PS4 or 3DS.
Don't own anything but wiiu from this gen yet.
Thinking of buying ps4 when bloodborne is released or some time later and xbone bit later - have a feeling it will have even more stuff announced next year.
This is a truly bold prediction OP.
>PS Vita is already dead
>The bone is on life support
>WiiU has sold like shit so far
>PS4 has sold 10mil units
>PC is the PC
This thread should've been called True Facts that Everyone Already Knows.
go to /biz/ if you want to talk about the economics of games.
As for what platforms will get good games, I think this gen wont be so bad.
>PC for multiplats and PC exclusives
>Wii U and 3DS for nintendo and other exclusives
>Vita for weeb games and a few other exclusives
I say the above 4 are worth owning now and have enough good games on them
>Myabe PS4 will get good exclusives and weeb games later on
>xbone has no redeeming factors, maybe it will get a few good exclusives, but probably not many
Your sensationalism is false.
The fact is that the Xbox One is not a failure or dead by any means. It is actually selling faster than the 360. Its just that the PS4 is selling EVEN faster.
The Wii U has a more stable niche than the Wii. Nintendo knows this. It WILL make money because the only people with Wii U's are in for the long haul, unlike last gen when they were soccer moms who gave up on the system.
All companies are actually going to make a profit this gen. Xbox is just scrambling to try to make an even BIGGER profit.
PS4 will win by a small margin. It will not #REK the competition. Grow up. Expect the Xbox One to catch up a little bit, once they get steam in their sales due to Halo.
The Wii U will make a profit, and nothing more. The fan base is loyal, and money will steadily poor into Nintendo.
This generation HASN'T even begun. The peoples with next-gen systems are not normal consumers. Last gen systems outnumber next gen 8 to 1. Once the mainstream shift over, gaps will narrow. Especially considering that the market is booming. More and more young adults are buying systems, and the Xbone is appealing to them for muh streaming. Accept it.
The big 3 will do alright for themselves, and they'll be back for round 9 in 7 years time. All three of them.
>sonys going to go under any time now
>sonys going to go under any time now
>sonys going to go under any time now
>sonys going to go under any time now
>implying they will make a ps4
>sonys going to go under any time now
lets be real here, if shit does hit the fan for sony they will just spin off PS into its own company, too profitible to let go
Even if Sony goes under, you think the PS brand is just going to go away? They would sell it off to Amazon or any other number of companies looking to get into the market. A household brand name with that amount of install base doesn't just go away overnight. Sony would sell it just like Vaio.
Consoles are on life support right now. Mobile murdered the market.
Sony will likely try prop up the mobile division with the PS division with cross branding and pushing their IP's on mobile and PS but the entirety of Sony is in a mess so it will be a trainwreck. The contraction in PS4 sales will continue as the EU rush dries out and PC gaming .
Microsoft will make major moves back to PC gaming and embrace E-Sports even more than they do now. Xbox will become a distribution platform across PC and xbone.
Nintendo will grudgingly go to mobile gaming and eventually PC as moore's law kick in and the Nvidia K2 outpaces their hardware.
damn man the video game industry really needs your 100% correct insight OP. You are right! How could the billion dollar companys be so wrong? And you so right?
WOW op! They really need to hire you over at nintendo, microsoft or sonY!
>The fact is that the Xbox One is not a failure
lel it sold half as much as PS4 and is dead in europe with no hope of recovery
>. It is actually selling faster than the 360
There are more "gamers" now, of course they're faster
After 8 years of a generation where the lowest selling console still pulled at least 80m units, people have forgotten what a legitimately "dead" console looked like. The WiiU and Vita aren't dead. They're not as popular as their predecessors, but these aren't 3DOs or Virtual Boys.
The Vita is like the Saturn. DOA with casuals in America but still has good Japanese support. Unlike the Saturn, we actually get some of its games. The WiiU is pretty much the N64-2.
>B-but muh Halo
You must be deluded as all fuck if you don't think Halo is the system seller to end all system sellers.
Halo 5 and Master Chief Collection will save the Xbone without breaking a sweat.
But there's no point in trying to reason with them. Any reasonable person already knows what you posted. Anyone else will never accept it, and will just commence shitposting. See >>258561898 for example.
Handy Buyer's Guide - When Should I Buy A Console This Gen?
Let's start with handhelds!
This is Sony's Red-Headed Stepchild. It's almost dead in the water, but it's unparalleled in niche games. If you're a lover of Japanese games or other niche titles, this is a treasure trove of goodies, anon-kun. It's still very pricey, and many of the good games coming out for it are still expensive, Japan only, or new - smart buyers will wait for a sale or another year for a price drop.
Now is the time! For gaming on the go or if you're a Nintendo fan, this is the console. Casual gems like the new Pokemon games, Animal Crossing, and upcoming titles like Fantasy Life paired with hardcore titles like Kid Icarus Uprising, Etrian Odyssey 4, and Monster Hunter make this David a Goliath in this gen's console war. Low prices + many good semi-old games = buy now!
Now onto the consoles.
Looking at 2013 and 2014's E3's, the Bone is suffering an identity crisis. Does it want to be the next watercooler or hardcore heaven? The Xbox has always shone in "casual" settings, with games like Halo and Call of Duty being its flagships. There are some interesting exclusives like Killer Instinct and the upcoming Tomb Raider and Sunset Overdrive, but it's basically a PS4 with different exclusives that spies on you. Personally, it's better waiting for a price drop and MANY more games.
The console to beat at the moment. A sale powerhouse, but let's look at why: marketing. This is the new DUDEBRO machine, and it's eating the Xbox One alive. It's very similar to the Xbox One in that it's biggest draws are multiplayer multiplats and exclusives like Infamous, Bloodbourne, and - I'm loath to say it - The Last of Us Remastered. Still very pricey, but if last gen taught us a lesson, it's this: buy a Sony console at the end of the gen for massive fucking bargains and loads of games. Wait two years and this will be a damn good investment.
WiiU and PC next post!
Only on ps4
>anounced Guerrila RPG
cross gen with ps3
>Guilty Gear XRD
>inb4 lol indies
these are not indies
The Vita isn't dead, but the fact that Sony has never had, by their standards, an acceptable market share, and they certainly haven't increased it, doesn't bode too well for there being a next portable.
That could be wrong, but Sony doesn't lose much leverage as a company, or even within the PS brand by cutting their portables loose next gen.
Doesn't even matter if it gets no exlusives. It's the console of choice for multiplats because the other 2 are complete shit.
>But muh PC
Kick and scream about PC all you want and I will agree but there's simply no way PC multiplat sales will come close to what they'll sell on PS4.
The "odd one out". Nintendo has failed horribly at marketing the poor little guy, people don't know it's a new console. It's also been abandoned by many 3rd parties, but let's be honest - Nintendo isn't about that shit. Nobody bought a Wii to play Call of Duty on, it's for the exclusives, and Nintendo hasn't failed so far. With The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, ZombiU, Mario Kart 8, and the upcoming Bayonetta 2 and the almighty Smash Bros, the Wii U isn't a console to laugh at. You can snag a Wii U for $200 on Nintendo's website, which is a great deal. Time will tell if the Wii U will be the Little Engine That Could of this gen or the world's best paperweight.
What is there to be said? Best version of ANY multiplat, best back catalog, emulation, best indie scene (if you care about that sort of stuff), and it's a fucking computer. Will win every gen.
There probably won't be another PSP. Hell, the only reason the Vita was made was that the PSP was a huge hit and they couldn't just *not* make a sequel to a popular handheld, even though the market wasn't the same anymore.
In my dreams, PlayStation merges with Nintendo after Sony collapses and the Sony guys make all of Nintendo's hardware from here on out.
>Nintendo will pull through, they'll release their next console after the next Xbox + PS to get a better insight on the hardware front.
>The PS4 is the 360 of this gen. It'll be Dudebro central and Sony may invest in a few TPS/FPS Games.
>The Xbone may not beat the PS4, but I predict it will outsell the WiiU.
>I predict Rare will make a comeback with new IP. I don't think they'll use old IP until Spencer is sure they are ready.
>The Order 1886 will have poor sales.
>3DS Smash Bros will outsell WiiU Smash Bros.
>Naughty Dog will only make grimdark third person shooters this gen.
WiiU is more alive than ever.
Way more alive than any of the other consoles.
I mean, if you don't have a PC you are a fucking pleb, period, by now there's just no excuse not to have one
>Easy to build
>Cheap to build
>Get the best versions of most games
If you have a PC, you get the best version there, so PS4 and Xbone are just dead weight. The only console worth it is the WiiU.
Vita and 3DS are still alive too. Vita is only good for weeb games though so it's like a niche form of being alive.
who ever think of "this" future (pic related) is a fucking idiot.
same for Xbone's initial exclusives
Maybe these consoles will continue to not convince you to buy them, but none of them are going to be DEAD, not in the way that console fanboys on /v/ like to jerk themselves off thinking about.
Except Vita. Vita will probably be dead.
>Are you implying that it will?
Yes, because Halo is a fuckhuge franchise that can sell millions just on brand loyalty alone.
I don't even like the series or the Xbone, but to say that it won't push hardware units is complete ignorance on your part.
PS4 will survive and do well due to it not being from Microsoft and being more powerful with more marketable games than the Wii U.
Vita will continue to survive on its small niche games; indie and A or AA at best. Don't underestimate how much shit much anime fan boys will eat.
3DS will have its ebb and flows depending on when Pokemon, Zelda and Mario games are released on it as the majority of devs are starting to remember that the 3DS is owned by Nintendo. Ditto for the Wii U.
XBONE may recover, but I doubt it: Sony has sunk its talons into the majority of the fan base
PC will see a surge of Japanese games soon: Xseed, KT, and Konami have proven there is demand for it.
>Some time in mid 2015 these consoles will be officially dead in the water.
>>B-but muh Halo
>>B-but muh pantyquest
>>B-but muh Smash!
>These consoles are arguably dead already but they'll be long forgotten by the end of next year for sure.
You have to be absolutely new to vidya or trying to stir up shit to state this just the gen after the PS3 happened
Why are so many people against the idea of Nintendo going 3rd party? I'm not saying they should, just asking why it puts a bad taste in so many people's mouths.
Okay, then I'm going on record saying that it won't make more than a slight bump in sales. The bone is fucking dead by comparison. They dropped the price by 20% and it still barely made a difference. One franchise (that is pretty stale at this point) is not going to be enough to save it.
There's absolutely another Nintendo handheld coming, but I doubt they'll release it for some time. The 3DS has legs and no real competition other than smart phones.
If you want patterns, then we could potentially see another Pokemon generation on the 3DS towards the last bit of its life.
It's too development heavy for a market that they have no real presence in. It would be hell, and the only way they could succeed is making it like the Windows phone, which would pretty much mean it would just be a normal smartphone with PS trophies and friends lists.
>Naughty dog will only make...
God damn it, anon.
I miss Crash too much, I wish he would back rather than this SJW bullshit.
ND made my PS2 my world.
Do they see it as too kiddy now?
Hold me /v/.
It's leverage as a company. Nintendo is a massive company, and giving up hardware would make it a substantially smaller company, and therefore it would be less capable of doing what it wanted to do and less resistant to economic crises.
The kids that post on the internet assume that a huge company like Nintendo posting a loss for a couple years puts it in dire straits, but that's just stupid. If they were software only, it would sting a lot more.
because Sonic Jump and Sonic Boom is fucking shit and Zynga is digging a grave thanks to iOS and Mattrick.
and who in hell's bells want to see a Zelda game on PS4 when nobody like Nintendo at all?
You do not want Nintendo to go third party. Its bad for the industry as a whole as it reduces competition. Three or four seems to be a good number based on previous generations.
>lel it sold half as much as PS4 and is dead in europe with no hope of recovery
You don't get the big picture. The profits they are going to make off the Xbone are larger than the 360, due to a larger market and more reliable hardware. They have lost market share, yes. They are scrambling to recover that, but to call it a failure is ignorant of basic economics. The Xbox One will make some people very rich.
>There are more "gamers" now, of course they're faster
Yeah and gamers prefer the PS4, in general. Wait until the generation really gets going. The Xbone will tap into the market of yuppies looking to create an entertainment center. Those people don't buy consoles at launch.
>But it has already #REKT all competiton. Why so deluded?
No it hasn't. You're implying that the competition is suffering. On the contrary, the competition is being made very rich by their systems. Its just that the PS4 is bringing in even MORE money. Remember, the gaming market expands each generation. It is WAY bigger now than 2006.
It's got Metal Gear and Bloodborne to attract a few people.
Did it have any strong dudebro games to real them in too?
Simple. Nintendo's game strategy is unlike other console-makers. Their strategy is making large amounts of first-party games in a certain stylistic form and gameplay form. They also often crossover. This has created an extremely dense fandom of nintendo, of the shared love of that style of game. However, if nintendo went third-party and released on multible systems, the cohesiveness of the games together would be lost, since "Nintendo" would just be the name you see when it starts. Nothing more. There is no sega fandom. If they went third-party, the fandom will die, and they will be just another developer.
it would increase competition though. I doubt it could be sustained though. If Nintendo enters the arena, one of the big 3 will bow out because the gaming community would be stretched too thin. theyde still congregate around one major console.
meanwhile sony couldn't afford what Activision offers to bring in Crash and Spyro in PSASBR and give 'em a HD collection exclusive on PS4.
i'm gonna be laughing my ass off if Sakurai reveals a pic of the day revealing Crash, Spyro, and Banjo as trophies because Activision and MicroRare wanted to feed the hungry fans.
Looks like this gen the master race is those who have PC, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, 3ds and Vita.
Not really: If that happened you can be damned sure Nintendo wouldn't do jack and shit for Microsoft or its Xbox. It would literally become a Western vs Eastern console situation with a little crossover between the two.
now imagine if Nintendo fans left /v/, you snitching nigga.
How would it be like?
>PS4 is and will remain the console of choice for casuals this gen and like it or not, it will have some great exclusive but probably nothing that will sway brand loyalists.
How can you say that, when Xbox has Halo and Call of Duty, which has been more focused as a xbox title, similar to how playstation is treating destiny right now?
What online games does playstation have that casual people who like shooters will play?
f2p garbage like planetside?
You don't quite understand. I'm saying that you don't hear of fanboys for a third party. You hear fanboys for franchises, but not the third party itself. They'd still make the same franchises, but there wouldn't be such a thing as a "Nintendo Fanboy".
The WiiU has no future, it's was a half baked idea, launched too early (needed firmware upgrades to even play games and have off TV). A complete and utter fuck up.
Their mistake was putting the word "Wii" in the title, trying to basically leech from their previous fad box as well as conflicting marketing.
Sadly, the name "Wii" has become associated with casuals, wagglan and shovelware, that's why Nintendo has lost a ton of Consumer, Developer and Publisher trust.
Whatever money Nintendo made from it is worthless now, the damage to their brand has been done, it's gonna take 2 more gens of good will to get that back.
Better luck next gen.
Holy fuck they have to be swimming in money
There are no Xbones to be butthurt. No seriously I can go to /v/ for an entire week spending all day and still not see one. I'm starting to think no xbones are on /v/ and the only one who seem like they are, are trolling.
Uncharted 4: Thief's End
Little Big Planet 3
Let it Die
The Order 1886
Guilty Gear Xrd
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Shadow of the Beast
Onechanbara Z2: Chaos
Assault Suit Leynos
Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed
new Earth Defense Force
new Tales game
new Falcom game
new Wild Arms game
The PS4 does have games (you may not like them, but they exist)
It's funny considering the 3DS has jack shit coming out this year aside from smash and pokemon whereas the vita has nothing but games coming out.
Ports/multiplats are there, yeah. Doesnt stop them from being games.
> inb4 hurr shita assmad shitposters
>>sonys going to go under any time now
And they have gotten consistently worse, you know that right?
>lets be real here, if shit does hit the fan for sony they will just spin off PS into its own company, too profitible to let go
Is this a joke?
Is this what neogaf does to people?
>everyone should leave /v/ really
but Plebbit, GayFAQ and NeoJIDF aren't any better, half of the known forums have nazi/jew mods, most of the other chans are slow as fuck, and /v/idyachan (/v/'s 7chan) doesn't not exist yet.
where else to go?
yet moot said post-PS2/PSP Sony fanboys are the worst in /v/.
also the x-shilling went down since Mattrick left to Zynga and the 360 fanboys moved to PS4.
As of this second, for the majority of people, (not /v/, the general consumer), the only reason to own a next gen Console is for Destiny, or some scattered exclusives on each side.
And with Sony leaving a really good impression at e3 2013, an ok one at 2014, being $100 less for a long period of time and marketing Destiny as the best on playstation, (some consumers may even think it's Playstation exclusive still) it makes sense that the console is selling much better.
Until people have reasons to get an Xbone this fall/winter, Ps4 is gonna keep winning
Once microsoft gets Forza horizon, Sunset, and the master chief collection, we'll see how sony fairs.
What big name Ip's are sony releasing this fall/winter?
I like both consoles, so I'm just trying to think this one out
I agree. For sure there are no Xbox fans left. But there are still a few childish faggots who witnessed their favorite brand get utterly annihilated and like to shitpost against PS4 by defending Nintendo and PC.
Not to say that Nintendo and PC defenders aren't legit but a small number of them are the X360 refugees.
Anyone defending the bone is indeed a troll.
>the only faggot who actually seems to know what he's talking about
>floded with sonygger console war dipshits
I feel sorry for ya, bro.
On another note, I wish people would realize the stuff you're saying.
The 3DS was NEVER sold at a loss. Even now, I think most 3DSes sold are XLs, and they go for the same price as a Vita.
the ps4 is going to be a multiplat machine for the rest of its lifecycle, and will continue to be the console of choice based solely off of it not being an xbox. it won't get the jap games in the number that the ps3 did, however. i'm guessing that by the end of this gen, there will be 30 or so ps4 exclusives.
the xbox1 is going to stay low on the sales charts, even if it gets some great titles, thanks to how the public views it. they simply can't convince people that their console isn't a spybox drm machine anymore, since the idea that it could have been is still there. it will still outsell the wii u, but it's not going to even sell half as many units as the ps4
the wii u will stay small this gen and nintendo will try to win back its "old fanbase" that mostly left during the wii's lifetime. there is really no other way to get back into relevance other than to try and pull out some of those other franchises they don't use much of anymore, like f-zero. if they don't, the wii u won't pass 20m sales by the end of the gen.
the futures of the 3ds and vita are basically already clear. the 3ds will continue to sell well everywhere, but it won't reach ds levels of sales, and the vita will sell alright in japan and poorly everywhere else.
e3 2013, you know, the one where xbox was still gunning for the always online, restricted used games, annouced 500 dollar console, sony came in, said they supported used games, 100 dollars less for their console, etc
>About 30 games
>Gee I better buy every one!
If you really gonna take that meme too fair how about I get you the list of games for Wii U and PC.
Oh wait a moment...
It's so fucking long it would crash the site.
Jesus you Sonyfans sure do easily get insulted and get drunken on any tiny advantage you would have but guess what?
There is no PERFECT console it's down to preference. Apart from PC of course.
Except all the PS3 JRPGs and third parties are going to the PS4 not WiiU.
>scratch Sony's name
>Sold 10 million in first 3 months of being available
>these butthurt Nintenbabies
PS4 will continue to dominate the console market though still not hit sales to displace the last-gen systems.
Vita will continue to flounder.
Xbone will struggle as Microsoft continues towards its path of being a business tablet and services company. Windows 9 will launch to minimal enthusiasm and DX12 will see very little adoption.
WiiU will continue to sell slowly but steadily optimistically overtaking the Gamecube's sales pace. 3DS sales will similarly continue steadily.
Steam Machines will hit 2-3 million by the end of the year with high end systems doing will in north america and asia, with low end systems doing much better in Europe and other areas where the console prices are artificially inflated.
I'm not sure if an Xbox fan would flee to Ninty. While PC I understand, Nintendo is pretty branded with kiddy-appropriate games. If I was a typical Xbox fan and not a Nintendo fan, I would first think PS4 and PC. Nintendo is the weird niche on the side.
True, but nobody is saying "buy a vita because this game is also on it" either, people are just listing what it has.
it's no different than Smash for the 3DS or the WiiU.
> B-but different content!
Vita multiplats often do this as well, but they're still vilified as ports and therefore need to be shitposted against.
Even then, it's exclusives are pretty decent and certainly better than Mario Platformer #23.
Oh yes, the one where Sony did as any sane person would expect and not completely fuck their consumers over.
Except they went back on their word and are now charging for online, but I digress.
The Xbone leaving a shit impression does not make the PS4 leave a "very good" one.
Not him but
Do you really think Bill Gates is sitting there mad because Sony is making more money than him while he's making money himself? The only people that care about anyone "winning" are delusional fanboys.
I'm hoping for Nintendo next-gen systems to be one single device like an Nvidia Shield. You would just have to put it on the dock to play on your tv. It could have the new 2019 tegra chip from Nvidia and be superior to the ps4.
I hope it stays that way for the vita. It seems that localizers are doing well enough that they're happy to bring over just about anything.
Portables are comfier to play, and each of them can suspend a game and you can go back to it whenever you feel like. It's nice being able to pick up and play an RPG, set it down, then pick it up later that night and not have to deal with load times.
But PC is clearly king.
10 million idiots got the no games machine.
Why would you want anything else unless you are drunk on fanboyisum.
That's Sony's problem, Just look at: >>258566881
because, japan has been moving more and more towards mobile games, and the ps4 is selling poorly there. japs are going to make games for other japs, and right now they're more interested in phone games, vita games, and 3ds games.
Component prices are less inflated though than the console prices as they tend to trend closer to the exchange rate where the consoles are priced to round numbers. So for the same low-end 720p OpenGL 4.4 Steam Machine that would be more expensive than a PS4 in the US you're looking at ~325gbp to 400gbp so a OEM making prebuilts could possibly hit 375.
>pc is clearly king
I guess that's why Steam never releases sales figures and only offer ambiguous member sign up information. Also, PC is so king, that's why every third party title is announced on console conferences and PC beggers have to petition for titles to get there, if they ever do
>b-but moba losers s-spend this amount on games
These neckbeard delusions
>m-muh 10 million
meanwhile Nintendo is building shit (explains why the warchest went down) while Sony is losing a bunch of shit while on huge fucking debt and covering up with PS4 sales.
just look how much their divisions and employees are gone and this shit >>258564610
I actually want more Pikmin, Pushmo, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Star Fox and games like Kid: Icarus Uprising and funded games like Wonderful 101. But they have no incentive to make these games if they aren't rounding out their platform(they aren't multi-million sellers) because they'll have to spend even more to make them suitable for the more powerful consoles.
The only people who want Nintendo to go third party for Mario, Zelda, Smash Pokémon and maybe Metroid. Those alone won't satisfy the real fans.
I think this is likely to be the trend for most of the rest of the world soon. As soon as Google and others can work out a good solution to the controller situation tablets are likely to overtake consoles. The new Nvidia Shield tablet for instance has graphics hardware capable of full blown OpenGL 4.4 which puts it slightly ahead of the current consoles.
It's the 4chan superiority complex. If there is any site that can perform similar services to a given section or the total of 4chan, it will be forever hated. I see it all the time on here. Reddit, since it is both more popular (allowing people to yell about normalfags) and has subsections like 4chan, is a common target. Websites that share gifs and images like tumblr are common targets as well. The worst brag is always people thinking that 4chan is so humble on hating itself and all other sites pretend to be good, when in reality all sites love to hate themselves.
And that is why I am optimistic about the vita.
People who own one seem to be happy, at least everyone I've met who has one.
For example, last year when the shitposting was at a peak and Black Friday came by, there was nothing but praise for it and every thread made about it had people going
> WELL I HAD THOUGHT IT'D BE SHIT BECAUSE OF WHAT I WAS TOLD BUT IT REALLY ISNT
The shitposting went from
> Lol no games
> Lol no games but ports
> Lol no games but weebshit
And now Sony and localization teams realized that outside of Japan, the main type of games being purchased are Japanese and Niche games.
It has become a Japanese/Niche handheld and I fucking love it since there arent enough people to shit it up.
Nintendo should totally do a 2-in-1 system. Especially when Nvidia is getting better on mobile chips each years.
I'm not mad because you are insulting Nintendo even though I am a nintendo fan, but please call us Nintenyearolds. Nintenbabies isn't clever at all. No I am not the one you are replying.
Not while nvidia is making backroom deals with publishers in order to blame games running like shit on the consumer having outdated hardware, instead of being honest about games being poorly optimized.
They make good cards, but no. Just no.
>I guess that's why Steam never releases sales figures and only offer ambiguous member sign up information.
You say that as if every company released info.
Or as is Steam releasing info was anything like the rest, since Steam has games from other companies.
>Also, PC is so king, that's why every third party title is announced on console conferences and PC beggers have to petition for titles to get there, if they ever do
You are delusional if you think petitions do anything most of the time, SE is starting to enter PC development, MGSV is on PC too, GTAV gets a PC version too, even things like dark souls, from a relatively small studio get a PC release.
The market is moving towards PC pretty fucking hard, while the PC market is just increasing in size
Nintendo's next system will almost certainly be handheld with a HDMI dongle. As you say there's very little reason for them to keep a two system strategy and Nintendo internally has been striving towards a single system for quite a while. They even integrated their teams a while back in preparation.
We might see something along the lines of the Vita and the VitaTV if they want to keep a TV specific system.
>they'll have to spend even more to make them suitable for the more powerful consoles.
That's a misconception. More powerful hardware doesn't necessarily mean more expensive games. (see: Vita and PS4).
Have you even been paying attention to sales? The 3DS is selling at a faster rate than the DS ever did, and the DS is the best selling console of all time.
More AMD fanboy conspiracy theories? I'm surprised you didn't mention Jews.
>Is this guy for real? Holy shit Nintenbabies are pathetic
Nintendo has been investing left and right, hiring developers and getting buildings.
Sony has fired developers and sold assets.
This is objective fact.
>Why does /v/ think it's the last bastion of rationality regarding video games on the web? It's really awkward watching everyone here OD on their own flatulence.
It's simply about the enormous Sony bias Neogaf has, nothing more.
>You say that as if every company released info.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all publicly traded so they do...
>not knowing basic economics
>calling other people fanboys or delusional
>then offers economic opinion based on own rapid fanboyism
Where did I imply that sales would affect my decision in a purchase AT ALL?
I am asking how much was sold in the same span, not how much before I would buy one.
Because frankly, I dont intend on getting the piece of shit that is the Wii U PURELY because of >>258568824
it has no future aside from its endless rehashes and casual audiences.
Don't start that, Nintendo handhelds always sell more than their consoles, not every handheld owner owns the associated console.
a hybrid 2-in-1 is only a good way for Nintendo to decrease the number of systems(and by extension games) they sell in a generation by more than 50%.
>sales don't matter except when the Wii outsold everything last gen but this gen Nintendo are getting destroyed so sales no longer matter
Sales also influence devs. Devs aren't going to waste their time optimising for a last gen console and releasing on the bone will be scarcely worth it either.
Nexus 7 is more powerful than the 3DS or the Vita, it sells for $200-$250. The idea that Nintendo couldn't do a system with a tall format 800x1280 screen with more modern OpenGL ES 3 hardware in several years time is ridiculous.
>Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all publicly traded so they do...
Yes, can you get me the sales from the titles sold for these consoles?
Can I get, say, Bayonetta's sales on PS3 from Sony?
No, no I can't.
It's the same deal, obviously Steam has numbers, obviously Sony has numbers, this doesn't mean they will disclose them or that they have to
As opposed to the PS4 with its Souls rehashes and Movie Games?
Or the Xbone with its Dewrito Sponsored Season Pass FPS?
Or PCs with their spreadsheet simulators?
Gee, I guess when you're strawmanning that hard, videogames in general are pretty shit, huh?
Maybe we should all find new hobbies.
Sailing sounds fun.
>and releasing on the bone will be scarcely worth it either.
I can't get over how incredibly deluded the sony fanbase is
If the piece of shit that was the PS3 got ports you can bet your balls xbone is getting ports
Here's the thing though. Candy Crush is a good game, in the subsection of games that is mobile games. Mobile games are mostly made to keep people from boredom, rather than attempting to provide large entertainment. Since candy crush is very addictive and thus can delay boredom for a long time, it is a good game. But only in the market of mobile games.
>Didn't watch Nintendo's E3.
>Missed Splatoon, Zelda U, Smash, X, 3 M rated games and countless others
Wow. At least LEARN about your opposition before you post.
The Wii U is MEANT to get rid of the casual tag, but you are too ignorant to think otherwise because you hate change.
>nintendo killed themselves by releasing one of the most successful franchises on their current most successful platform
Oh okay, why don't you go be a CEO then with that mindset.
Alternately by selling a $180 handheld with an optional $50 wireless TV dongle they could increase sales of games by offering party modes that could be enabled via a small download to the TV adapter encouraging more people to get the handheld systems for social gaming. The exact niche where the Wii was a hit and the WiiU and the 3DS to some extent have fallen flat.
>Can I get, say, Bayonetta's sales on PS3 from Sony?
Oh fuck, these fucking kids. Is the school year starting yet?
>conversation about consoles and PC
>brings Sega THE PUBLISHER in the conversation for fuck all reason
>not knowing the difference
Go back to reddit, pleb
Nintendo had to drop back down to Gameboy-like prices with the 2DS to continue selling 3DS's at a good rate.
The 3DS and Vita are good case studies in how handhelds at can't sell at $250.
>Everything the Wii U has that people want except Smash and Bayo2 comes out in 2015
>Wii U dying in 2015
2/10 made me reply despite at least 100 anons probably already making note of this
he's talking about Hyrule Warriors and the game has been out for a few fucking days at japan.
to the Sony faggots, if the nintendo game didn't sell 200 million in one day or week or got a bug glitch or a early or bad review from IGN, it's a failure.
funny they like to compare old and dead units from a predecessor with fresh and alive units from a new game.
their is no winning to please or frighten the Sony fans, PC fans, the gaming Media, and the anti-Nintendo audience. if Nintendo does anything, they are gonna go full shit on them.
Smash and Pokémon together are an excellent strategy to revive the momentum of the 3DS but it has the cost of fucking the WiiU over
And i only have a 3DS, the more they sacrifice the WiiU for the 3DS, the better for me.
>Nintendo is spending money but Sony isn't and they're shuttering doors
>Is shown Sony is opening new, larger buildings to replace older ones
>uh... Sony the electronics company at large is losing money
>Sony's gaming wing is profitting
>Nintendo which is just a gaming company is continuing operating at a loss
sounds like you've lost an argument, fella
>Since when did Musou games ever "save" a platform? Why are people even considering it?
NintenDOOOOMED fans just added it to their "X will save WiiU" list.
they really do care how it goes
Oh yeah, at the cost of ostracizing over half of their fanbase who goes handheld-only.
I'm sure that'll go well, seeing as one of the main complaints regarding the Wii was that it wasn't made for Nintendo's core fans.
No but seriously, you should totally become a CEO. Why don't you go ask Iwata for the job?
I am actually glad that the ps4 is completely destroying the wii u's and xbone's ass so bad like that. There's just too many fucking consoles already and I really don't want to mess with them any longer save for one or two AT BEST for the few worthwhile exclusives. So I say good riddance for both of them, specially since they are so behind the ps4 in terms of specs, which is already a console that is nothing to write home about itself. Already got a 3DS XL with gateway to play the few worthwhile games on the 3ds and the rest of the money I pour on my pc. Fuck console gaming in the ass.
Only console war faggots give a shit about who wins and loses
People who actually like vidya will play their vidya and not give a shit while companies keep making money
As long as said company is making money, everything else is irrelevant. All Sony is doing by selling so fast is recovering any loses they have
The only thing I give a shit about is shitheads like you spreading misinformation around and acting like retards
>>You mean the "Jew the economy" EA Access deal?
>I don't even like Sony anymore but respect to them for not allowing it.
Not allowing what?
Competing with their PS+ since it blows it out of the water?
Are you seriously lapping up with a response that literally comes from the PR department and goes like "We value our consumers too much for this"? The only reason they rejected it is because of competition.
>Meanwhile you'd never fucking get that from Nintendo.
I don't even know what you mean, are you claiming that Nintendo would allow something like this?
>The 3DS has legs
Really short ones though. It is basically competition free and is doing nowhere near as good as the DS did, and there is fuckall to look forward too. The system's peak time is already gone.
>and is doing nowhere near as good as the DS did
Nothing has ever done as good as the DS did.
Not in the past, not a single one time.
It's stupid to pretend that the DS was a console with normal sales
And this is all Nintendo's fault. Without a competitor like the PSP and free casual money on the line like with the DS, they've gone lax.
The WiiU was just as powerful as established 8 year old consoles, and the 360 was an unproven competitor going against the juggernaut Wii and the "reigning champ" the PS3. Tons of people bought up PS3s with the assumption that Japanese 3rd parties would be just as dominant in the new gen as the last.
I don't think it's doing as well as the GBA, either, both sales-wise and games-wise. Nintendo needs to step up and try with the 3DS.
Too bad they have Pokemon, Yokai Wars, and MoHun so they'll never actually have to.
I think there is more quality in the Vita titles though.
The only high note the 3DS has this year is Smash, which is much better played on the Wii U.
I'm not sure what you are trying to pull here, the Vita has a great year for software this year, and the 3DS was at an all time low.
That's so very nice.
What about, you know, the entirety of the rest of the time, when the DS got things like MH?
It's hilarious to see anyone pointing how at a precise point in time the vita got slightly more than the 3ds while the 3ds already has a worthwhile library by itself.
What did the vita even get that was high profile?
>The only game worth playing on the vita
Maybe if you never looked into the other games, but that's pretty damn ignorant.
That's like saying the only game worth playing on the 3DS is Link Between Worlds, because it may just be to some.
Yeah but the gap is just too big for a handheld that has no competition whatsoever. It has some good games but it's nothing to write home about and I would never advise someone to get one unless they have a really strict list of games they are dying to play. It really does just the bare minimum and should have been a much better system provided nintendo wasn't fucking retarded and thinking they are still the hot shit they once were during the SNES era, when they could afford to set the bar crazy high for third parties before the ps1 was released, which was a time when they basically dominated and could afford to do whatever. In short, what I'm trying to say is that they are really being lazy for the system could and should be much better. The Wii U sorts of gets in the way as well as we could see during this year's E3 where it got pretty much obvious the 3ds was being kind of sacrificed for the wii u's sake as an emergency. Which is more the reason they should learn how to deal with third parties better and get at least the same support all the other companies get.
>quantity > quality
This is sort of a go-to phrase for Nintendo fanboys when a Nintendo platform is doing badly, and I hate it.
Last gen around this time, the DS was KILLING it with great games. The 3DS is pretty much barren this year outside of Persona Q and MoHun. Nintendo is letting the system die on the vine to save the WiiU, because as far as they're concerned they have their free money franchises. Nintendo fanboys should ask for more.
Sega fanboys without exception shit on Sony (even their good consoles like PS1 and PS2) and insist that the Dreamcast has worthwhile games that haven't been ported away.
Oh, and they think the Dreamcast was more powerful than the PS2. Serious delusion there.
Pretty angry, brah.
Don't worry, WiiU will get a game some day.
The Vita has Monster Hunter too?
Pokemon is an entire beast, but I don't think it's a quality title, it's more of a fallback with brand power. X and Y was considered largely, a bad Pokemon game.
What's "worthwhile" is subjective in itself, the Vita doesn't need mass appeal and children support to be worthwhile, it just needs good games, which is has.
Freedom Wars, Oreshika, Dangan Ronpa Another Episode, and Sword Art Online.
I agree with this completely.
The 3DS has stagnated much too soon and already seems to be in it's twilight years. All were getting is focused low-key games in the majority.
Microsoft abandoned Media Center PCs, so that's a dead end. The Xbone is just a lot more convenient if you want a media center, but it's way too expensive to justify right now.
I might upgrade my PC soon, and when I do, I'll be getting a smaller case, so I might just whip up something more suited to putting in a living room.
Yeah because Iwata is doing a really good job for the Wii U making it achieve the status of one the worst selling consoles of all time and the laughing stock of the industry, right you fucking retard?
I think PS4 will be unlocked as an open Linux platform, and PS4 games will be playable on Linux (with Playstation as a Steam like program) and/or you can install the PS4 OS on your computer. Plus there's pre-built PCs you can buy that come with Playstation controllers and the PS4 OS. They'll go full digital like Steam. The only exclusives on it would be Sony owned franchises and games funded by Sony.
I think Microsoft will have pre-built PCs that come with Xbox controllers and Windows 9. If they're smart, they'll release a lite and free version of Windows 9 meant just for gaming, this will also be the version of Windows 9 that comes with the pre-built PCs. They'll also go full digital like Steam. There's a chance they'll be stupid and not release a lite and free version of Windows 9 for gaming.
But hey, Sony and Microsoft might end up not even do these things. Microsoft released Dead Rising 3 on Steam and working on the PC version of Ryse, so Sony and Microsoft might just release their franchises on Steam for all we know, while Microsoft only releases their Steam games for Windows. The only exclusives would be Microsoft owned franchises and legacy Microsoft games that haven't come out on Steam yet (Freelancer for example), and probably games that haven't come out on Linux yet, but assuming that PS4 becomes an open Linux platform, that and Steam Machines will assure that Linux will be big for gaming.
As for Nintendo, I think they'll become handheld exclusive. They might release a handheld that also works as a phone. This would be very popular in both American and Japan.
I think Steam Machines and SteamOS will do great, even if it's not an instant success. The majority of people interested in Steam Machines/SteamOS will either buy Steam Machines or just install SteamOS, but mainly buy Steam Machines, only a very small percent will play Steam games on other Linux distros.
And professor layton v phoenix wright
Dude, this spinoff was terrible, ask more Europeans, and it's not nearly a high note release.
Looks good, but a spin off
THis is an indie game
And Fantasy LIfe
This is literally animal crossing with more RPG. It's a shallow game.
And mario golf
I hope your joking.
None of those are even high key games, they are so damn budget.
Sorry, this was meant to be in the second paragraph about Microsoft.
Maybe a lot of the games aren't for you, but looking at a single image of a game isn't really doing anything justice. If that was the case, most 3DS games would be turned away on looking like CDi games.
>I think PS4 will be unlocked as an open Linux platform, and PS4 games will be playable on Linux (with Playstation as a Steam like program) and/or you can install the PS4 OS on your computer.
You do realize that last gen Sony LITERALLY removed linux support with an update AFTER launch right?
You can't possibly forget one of the most anticonsumerist practices that have ever taken place in the history of the industry
I have a PS3 and PS4. I'm happy with both.
But I hope console gaming dies, and PC gaming because easily accessible and cheaper.
For those of you who will say that its already cheap and accessible vastly over estimate by intelligence and ability to build a thing.
I just like to play games.
>None of those are even high key games, they are so damn budget.
>they are so damn budget.
>The vita list is this
>Freedom Wars, Oreshika, Dangan Ronpa Another Episode, and Sword Art Online.
Am I being bamboozled
Unite, Freedom 1, and Freedom 2 are on it as well.
I don't think it's "Scraps" it's still Monster hunter, no matter how you deem it. It's not a new title, but that doesn't make it invalid unless you choose to move the goalposts.
Listen, the 3DS is a crappy console through and through, objectively. If you like the games, that's cool too, but don't go around spouting ignorant shit on the Vita without even looking into it.
Shit, where do you get the motivation? The console exists, it has good games, there's no need to be upset over it.
I thought the Naomi board and by extension the Dreamcast were supposed to be easy to work with?
For contrast, Ratchet 1 looks better than almost any Dreamcast game I can think of and that was in 2002.
Freedom Wars alone has a higher budget than all the games you listed except maybe on par with Smash.
So yes, I am being serious. That's also a recent list of bigger games, not an entire years worth like your list suggests.
The amount of effort that goes into a 3DS games is often not as much as a Vita title, and it shows.
>I don't think it's "Scraps" it's still Monster hunter, no matter how you deem it. It's not a new title, but that doesn't make it invalid unless you choose to move the goalposts.
I can't believe anyone did actually write this
Well while were at it, let's include the entire PSP library, as well as any associated emulation.
I'm still unsure what difference that makes. The Vita also has 2 sticks for it. The 3DS, by contrast, controls actions games like hot garbage.
I'll just leave this here and quietly sit back and watch the shitstorm of denial of shitflinging.
It's "somebody", and I don't see what's unbelievable about it. The Vita doesn't need Monster Hunter to be a good console, one game does not define an entire console's existence.
>Well while were at it, let's include the entire PSP library, as well as any associated emulation.
>I'm still unsure what difference that makes
Taking into account the ds library alone is orders of magnitude better than the PSP and Vita libraries combined, I'm fairly certain I do
>that's why every third party title is announced on console conferences and PC beggers have to petition for titles to get there, if they ever do
Not all PSP games are on the Vita's PSN and you have to rebuy them. Same for PS1 games.
Wheras with the 3DS, you just put the DS cartridge in and play the game.
It's not exactly fair to compare the two.
>the ds library alone is orders of magnitude better than the PSP and Vita libraries combined
Not even close.
The best thing that carried the DS was the few great VNs, Castlevania, and Megaman.
The majority of it was shit.
you're fucking retarded if you think 2015 will be a bad year for the Wii U, xbone is all but dead, vitas been dead for a year already, ps4 will continue to be a "no games" movie box for casuals that will slowly but surely sink into irrelevance as pc continues to vastly out perform both it and the bone.
Not at all. I was comparing the 3DS to the Vita initially on their own merits.
The Vita has a ton of appealing games, as does the 3DS.
You are trying to suggest otherwise.
Do you own a Vita at the very least?
>It has become a Japanese/Niche handheld and I fucking love it since there arent enough people to shit it up.
To be fair, games for Vita/3DS are almost exclusively Japanese anyway. Name a notable 3DS game that isn't Japanese...
The Vita actually has a few notable ones, LBP, Tearaway and Killzone. Really, the Vita is the only hand held almost ever to have any notable western games.
>nintenbro in good shape from wii-fit
Why would I own a console that lacks games I'm interested in...? This kind of logic is cancerous.
The only reason I own a 3DS is because I found a cheap one used, and that thing's a shitheap I regret buying.
>Nintendo fans left /v/
who would we shitalk then?
>The best thing that carried the DS was the few great VNs, Castlevania, and Megaman.
Let's disregard the entirety of Zelda
And hotel dusk.
Hell lets disregard ghost trick
You still have new super mario bros, EBA, Ouendan, the advance wars games, meteos, TWEWY, Dragon Quest, pokemon, professor layton, animal crossing, SMT, rhythm heaven, Scribblenauts, Golden Sun, Rune factory, KH, Viewtiful joe, valkyrie profile and Lost in blue
And many of these even have multiple installments
The DS library is literally one of the most solid libraries out there and its only competition is the PS2 library for fucks sake
There you go then.
I can promise you, you would find interesting games, but the Vita is an investment that has an associated risk that comes with unfamiliar titles.
If I could show you, then I imagine you would probably open your mind for it.
because i enjoy playing games, and not shoveling my hard earned money out to pay for the privilege to use a service i already pay for on a system thats over priced and under powered
I said VNs, so that shoots off a lot of your shit list.
The Zelda games were universally regarded as garbage, and they damn were.
New Super Mario Bros was fucking garbage, Pokemon is shit, Animal Crossing is shit, Rhythm heaven is shit, Scribblenauts is shit, Golden Sun is shit, the kingdom hearts game was shit, etc.
Christ I admit I missed some decent titles, but for fucks sake, you have shit standards towards good games.
I'm not on any side in vita vs 3DS but I did think it was ridiculous that my friends bought bulky add-ons for their 3DSs that turned the d-pad into a right thumbstick so they could play monster hunter. The one thing that was annoying about the PSP was only one thumbstick and two shoulder buttons which meant all the console game ports/spin-offs got shitty controls. Sony learned from that, nintendo should have done too.
On the subject of the Vita, what is the homebrew/emulation scene like on it? Have they managed to open it up or do sony keep patching it with updates like the PSP? I was under the impression the vita can only emulate PSP homebrew at this stage but maybe I'm wrong
I think the wii-u has potential. It's got a neat interface that if the company bothers to get any good developers they could have a field day with it and crank out some unique shit.
The Xbox one doesn't even do as its advertised. My friend has one and gave up on voice commands a long time ago.
Pc will never die as a gaming platform we all know this. Moving on...
I have no knowledge of the PS4 but hopefully they'll get more games for it than the Ps3 had.
Hand helds will always have a place. Moving on...
I'm defending the Vita because it's a console I enjoy.
I find it greatly amusing that you find those games remotely good. Listen, not all of us live for another side scroller mario or a Pokemon with the exact same concept and objectives, with small additions; the DS library was good, but not nearly THAT good.
Were not fucking 8 years old here, we can have some standards.
Going to go a little out there on this one.
2015/6 - Wii-U has recovered slightly. Remains a first party machine but is not in it's current dumps. Nintendo shareholders not impressed that it didn't pull in the Wii numbers and fire Iwata. They cockblock Reggie from taking over.
PS4 - Dominated the 'war' and has a very healthy lead but Sony's other failing divisions are eating away at the war chest. Sony forced to ditch failing electronics departments or gaming.
Xbone - Sold. Based on the shareholders and some murmers (Which have been reported on) Microsoft sell the Xbox brand to another company who finish running the Xbone into the ground before announcing 'their unique vision' for the next console at the following E3. It enters strong but quickly dies out of the gate, much like the Ouya, because its new owners don't know a fucking thing about the console biz.
PC - largely unaffected. GTA5 still isn't out and there is a new indie game everyone loves for half an hour before shitting all over it. Command and Conquer continues to have its corpse raped by EA.
you guys are retarded. nothing is going to die. the last time something died was back when the dreamcast did sega in.
the psp didn't even die and that was "the pirate machine"
the ps3 didn't die and that had no games for years
nothing is going to die
Everything in your picture will do fine besides the vita and xbone which are on hospital beds.
In some ways I see your point. It was a weird machine with not enough to go on and the presentation introducing it was full of mixed messages (though none of that ITS OUT NOW, IN THE SHOPS! bollocks that SEGA pulled) but yes, they did stay the course and recovered rather well. I remember the early years of the PS3 and it was fucking painful, just an expensive paperweight.
Don't forget the incredibly confusing architecture driving the price up and the third parties away.
Lucky they had the safety net of the PS1 and PS2 to fall back on so they could force the PS3 to work, because otherwise the PS4 would have had to been made 2010ish and would have been even more of a flop than the Dreamcast.
Sega just couldn't keep the Saturn on life support though, the Genesis was their only real success and even that one didn't pull in PS2 numbers.
Yeah I would surely miss the "YOU SHOULD LOVE NINTENDO, NINTENDO DOES NO WRONG, BURN EVERYTHING NON-NINTENDO, BUY EVERYTHING THEY SELL NO MATTER WHAT, HERE'S YET ANOTHER THREAD MARKETTING THEIR PRODUCTS FOR FREE" crowd. Oh how would I miss those.
>Don't forget the incredibly confusing architecture driving the price up and the third parties away.
Yeah, and in an interview with one of the Oddworld dev's Sonys attitude during the PS2 and 3 went something along the lines of if you don't know how to work it then you're a fucking idiot, sucks to be you. It was thanks in part to the painful early years that Sony changed its tune and started to help and reach out to devs, and finally asking them to help design the 4. All good steps and it's thanks to a fucking disaster.
>PS4 would have had to been made 2010ish
Yeah, they really did need more time, the end of the PS3 has been its golden era. More focus on games and not only that but good ones. Not just down to them though as around the same time Sony started bucking their ideas up Microsoft started their decline into becoming a media hub instead of a gaming platform. Which is something I never understood, Sony failed there. Spectacularly. Why try and emulate a total failure?
>Genesis was their only real success and even that one didn't pull in PS2 numbers.
Granted but to be fair gaming wasn't as big then. It hadn't been as accepted as it is now. Though Nintendo did destroy them in most regions.
We should seriously go to neogaf (I say this since I always hear from nintendildos how that place is infested with sony marketers and etc) and start pushing the idea for a Demon's Souls Remaster with the cut content for the broken archstone, seriously. I think they would bite that seeing as they apparently listen to what they say, considering they even namedropped them and said they "listened to their fans on neogaf/reddit blablablbala".
I would buy that in a heartbeat. In fact, I would be extremely satisfied even if we got the exact same game but with higher resolution, FPS and now an alive community. Demon's souls was the tits and I miss my lvl 52 hyper archer one-shotting clueless plebs on 1-3 and 1-4.
It worked wonders for them in the PS2 era, securing a lot of exclusives thanks to the PS2's relative power, rapid adoption and early start. The PS3 had none of those advantages so it faltered.
Microsoft wanted monopoly on entertainment. It's clear that's what they attempted with the Xbone. TV, movies, games would all have to come through the Bone. It was Sony's strategy on the PS2 to an extent (Want a DVD player? Why not get a free games console with that?) but you're right, it failed on the PS3.
It's a shame Sega never really broke through as the most popular system. Their biggest success, the Genesis, was neck and neck with the SNES. I think they could have survived if not for the Saturn.
They'll launch early next year do reasonably well boost the use of Steam for Linux 2-3 times, but they won't really start to come into their own till 2016 or 2017 as the gap between PC hardware and console hardware really starts to become apparent.
Microsoft can't sell XBox. They have coalesced a LOT of their smaller, disparate brands under a very few brands. Microsoft has the Windows brand, the Office brand, and the XBox brand (with Bing kind of being the search glue that connects them all). XBox covers everything not covered by the first two...primarily, the entertainment segment. It's not a device...it's a BRAND. It's a brand that is tightly linked to Microsoft and now tightly integrated into their products, even Windows (XBox Music, XBox Video, XBox Games, etc.) Selling XBox would be insane, as Microsoft would be selling off one of their three core brands right along with the device. They would also lose the integration the XBox services provide...for example bing music search. I can have my phone listen to any song, and more than 90% of the time, it will return with at least one result from XBox Music. Cortana tightens up all those integrations even more.
Losing that integration opportunity would be a major blow to the competitive capabilities of Microsoft. Lagging behind the competition on sales numbers is largely meaningless compared to the scope of the brand as a whole, or the integration opportunities that brand and all it's services bring into the fold. It would be ludicrous to sell XBox, and I am incredibly happy that Elop wasn't chosen as CEO (as if he was, he would probably already have an XBox brand sale under way.)
Remember Xbox can remove all of the hardware expenses by becoming a software brand instead if Microsoft wanted to.
Nadella already stated pretty emphatically that it's not being sold and they see it as a valuable brand that's "not just tied to hardware". They are just going to take it to PC if Xbone gets really fucked post 2015. Halo MCC on Steam would probably make them back the entire spend on xbone in a week.
Out of the three, they are the only ones to have a guaranteed Plan B if the shitkicking gets too much and they can't gain ground back.
It is too expensive and doesn't have a pokyman killer app. The handheld market is different, it was never about specs and hardware.
I think the Vita still has a chance of pulling a comeback though, but it depends on how well Sony can tie it into the PS4 hype and its ecosystem.
>it depends on how well Sony can tie it into the PS4 hype and its ecosystem.
Problem is Sony have ditched it, they basically confirmed they don't give a fuck about the Vita at gamescom.
They are giving the spotlight to the PS4 because they need to keep the momentum. I own a Vita and I think this sucks too, but from a business perspective I understand then. Sony can't afford to support two consoles like they did during the early days of psp/ps3.
They might revisit the Vita situation next year when the ps4 market share had been stablished.
I'd expect them to try tie PS4 to the Mobile division instead and try push that as an ecosystem as the mobile is flagging badly and a Z3 with the capability to play your vita library and PS Now would be a sell.
Of course, that might also tie a stone around the PS4 and drop it in the ocean.
They're already exiting the mobile gaming market. PSM will be Vita exclusive come next android version.
Sony's next handheld might be a phone hybrid capable of buying and running stuff from PSN, but that's going to take a while.
Sony fucked it up because they launched it right next to the Vita. So you could either have a gimped phone with some PS1 compatability and native android support or a Vita.
They really fucked that shit up. They could have done it with the Vita and had an apple competitor without Google's ecosystem.
Exactly, we might see Xbox cease to be a console, but they'll keep the Xbox brand because its a well known name in gaming and living room entertainment in general. It wouldn't be unexpected to see a Xbox branded gaming tablet.
>wii u will die before Zelda U is released
Nop shithead. Nintendo will continue to release great games for the Wii U until at least 2017.
The 3DS might get replaced in 2015 or 2016 though.
you guys are forgetting that Wii was an extraoridinary exeption from nintendo cycle for home consoles. They usually sell bad initially, instead of leaving it to die like sony did with vita they proceed to deliver quality content and it eventually suceeds at least moderately.
Handhelds are different deal, but it's always been like that with their homeconsoles, they are good, but only eventually, after prolonged period.
>muh dead Vita meme
weeaboos will keep it alive for years, because they're actually buying games
The 3ds successor might get announced in 2015 or 2016 at the very least. Six years is the average amount of time Nintendo supports their consoles, and the 3ds is already reaching its 4th year in the market.
>They usually sell bad initially, instead of leaving it to die like sony did with vita they proceed to deliver quality content and it eventually suceeds at least moderately.
I'm sorry what? Are you THIS fucking delusional?
The Wii was selling gangbusters and Nintendo stopped giving a flying fuck about ever since 2010 while the ps3 is STILL getting games. Sony has always been - by far - the sole vidya company that thorougly supports their home consoles while nintendo relies on a small gen time gap. The Wii doesn't even have frigging working online anymore for fuck's sake. And before you say shit about gamespy, that's still nintendo's own incompetence for building up a vulnerable network AND forfeiting a migration after its demise. Seriously, you're fucking high.
Smartest person in the thread.
The Xbone won't die. Hell, the new CEO even said he supports the xbone and wants it to succeed. Plus, Halo alone will move millions of units. I'm tempted to get one just for fucking Quantum Break. Nintendo isn't going anywhere, ever. They will still be making games and consoles after both Sony and MS have dropped out of the industry. The PS4 is doing the best in sales, like 3:1 over the xbone I think? The PS4 also has a library full of nothing but promises at this point. In 2015 I think the library will be a lot better, but everyone that wanted a PS4 will have one by then. The gen just started. By OP's estimates, sony should already be gone because the 360 stomped its ass so hard in the beginning of last gen.
Every console cycle is the same for Nintendo. They pump first party titles during the first half of its life then shift focus to the development of their next platform, letting third parties take over.
3ds owners are already experiencing this. 2014 has been a long drought, and after the stuff announced at e3 is out, they're in for another one.
>All these babbies who only buy a console or PC
True master race reporting in. I own every console and I get just under 120 FPS in Crysis 3 on max.
>one of the worst selling consoles of all time
>no third party suppor whatsoever
>laughing stock of the industry to the point nobody even remembers its actually a thing
>in fact, it's so forgettable most people actually didn't know it was indeed a thing
>new CEO even said he supports the xbone and wants it to succeed
Redundant, he is the CEO. Of course he is going to say that.
>Halo alone will move millions of units
Not too sure on this one anymore. I mean I know it's a massive draw but the FPS market got snatched from them by COD and BF. Not saying it will be a fuck up or a success but it will certainly be interesting.
example of vita, not ps3, was meant to stand for how vita is treated currently. If I wasn't that lazy i'd link you those two articles, one yoshida promising 10 years of full support and the other one "we leave vita to indies".
That's some great support, instead of new games giving you the freedom to rebuy shit you owned for PSP for full price on PSN, wow, such generosity from sony.
PS3 is ok so far, I own one, but i keep looking over my shoulder for fear they'll strip some more functionality from it with another update - maybe they'd implement madatory ps+ because that's the way of the future
Only at /v/ though. And you guys are the kind of people that send love letters to marketing teams, so it's not like anyone can take this place seriously.
NPD numbers for june are leaked. Go check for yourself how that "hype" translated into console sales for the Wii U.
>You seem to forget how Nintendo won E3 and generated more hype than Sony and MS combined.
Didn't hear a fucking thing about their E3. Heard more about EA and Ubishit than Nintendo. That aside, it is not selling well, they need to address this, invest in some 3rd party support and advertizing. There are still people out there who think the Wii-u is just a Wii accessory, that name really did shoot them in the foot before they even left the gate
Yeah, they surely did "win" e3 by showcasing a few games nobody cares about or that everyone and their mother already knew that they were coming, relying mostly on the fact they only "won" because the others basically didn't even try. I'm sure the sales skyrocketed as well right? Oh wait, they didn't. In fact, they are back at the same shit they have always been even after nintendo released its biggest trump card on the system, which is Mario Kart. But yeah, just pay attention to all those people giving a fuck about the wii u outside of the extremely sttuborn and delusional nintendo fanbase on /v/.
>worst selling consoles of all time
literally because muh cowadoody 12 year olds
>no third party support whatsoever
doesn't need it
>laughing stock of the industry
oh sorry are you a part of the industry? no you aren't, sorry
>in fact, it's so forgettable
now you're just pulling shit out of your ass
Thanks, just like my Wii U next to my glorious master race PC.
well i own like 10 games for 3ds or so and still haven't beaten them all. What really surprised me though is that KI:U still has live and active online. Maybe it's my sleep schedule but I always find a game with nipbros and everyone give their best.
>And you guys are the kind of people that send love letters to marketing teams
I honestly believe nothing will ever top this in the history of this board. This was by far the most ridiculous case of droning I've witnessed ever. Just remembering that day makes me cringe so fucking hard it's not even funny.
ZOE QUINN DEPRESSION QUEST COVERUP. /v/ IS BEING CENSORED.
Ex who made the initial blog post posts on R9K with tripcode Eron !!Wu6ulceqWEj
Also from Nathan Grayson's Vine account: https://vine.co/v/Mxn9QOUXFDw Doesn't confirm anything, but shows they had more than a "professional" relationship.
BE AWARE THAT THIS IS BEING ACTIVELY CENSORED.
ANTICENSOR TEXT: HELLO MY SWEET WONDERFUL WORLD HOW DOES THE SKY SEEK YOU?
>12 year olds
So you're saying Nintendos target demographic was stolen from them?
>doesn't need it
Based on their sales figures they really do.
>oh sorry are you a part of the industry? no you aren't, sorry
It's certainly the laughing stock of the gaming world
Have the people who grew up with Halo had a chance to indulge in nostalgia, like the Nintendo fanbase does every gen? Nostalgia is a powerful tool to sell units, probably the most powerful one.
I'm happy for your backlog and all, but that's irrelevant. The point is that 3ds owners should be expecting less and less first party support from now on, much like Yoshida bluntly told Vita owners the same thing.
ah well that's a thing too. I know two guys with vitas, one buys averything with atlus written on it, panty quests and whatnot and is having a blast, other is a literal dudebro and complains it gathers dusts (he only has uncharted killzone and gravity rush but told me havent really played it because its animu shit)
True, I can't say they have. I thought Halo Wars was a remake of the first? I'm probably wrong there but whatever. It is a powerful tool and will make for an interesting release.
I'd never buy an Xbox but Xbro can be my husbando
but if we were to compare the amounts of first party releases on both systems 3ds has lots more coming, just to mention smash, fantasy life, pokemon ORAS and then MH4U which sells millions (3rd party though).
Yeah, I am sure I am going to listen to /v/, last time they called EA dead because it hitter 9 bucks each stock I bought 10k of it and sold it for over 35 bucks each for mad profit.
/v/ is fucking retarded.
>Nintendo won E3
Nintendo's E3 was a perfect example of Nintendo's most glaring flaw. It was a presentation targeting hardcore Nintendo fans. The kind of fans who would go out of their way to watch a Nintendo only stream on their computers. The kind of fans that actually get hyped for a Palutena reveal, considering most of my casual friends have no idea who that is. The kind of fans that already have a Wii U. Nintendo's E3 did nothing to broaden the fanbase to the kinds of people that made the Wii such a success, namely the casual audience who bought a Wii as a Wii Sports machine or the people who already had a PS3/360n and picked up a Wii because of the price.
Most casuals don't get excited about Captain Toad or a remake of an old Kirby DS game. The people that do already have their Wii Us, myself included.
Smash and ORAS are big guns meant to sell consoles during holidays. Nintendo will keep making these until the console is not officially supported anymore.
The problem is what will come after that. Expect a full drought until the end of next year.
>literally because blablabalbla
It's still one of the worst selling consoles of all time. Instead of trying to come with a way to try and pretend you don't have nintendo's dick your ass at all times, don't put the blame on anyone other than themselves for trying to do the exact same shit they did with the wii and designing a clusterfuck of an outdated gimmicky abortion of a console nobody wanted just because they fell in love with the casual money from the 7th gen.
>No third party support whatsoever
Yeah of course, we all live off of nintendo's one or two wattered down games here and there. Except nobody does. You nintendrones are just like apple fags. Whenever confronted with a blatant fault of the system you drone so hard for, you guys use the same exact bullshit excuse: "you don't need it". Sorry to break it to you, but having a massive software gap SPECIALLY when your company fails to compensate for it is not a feature, no matter how much you try to spin it around and distort logic.
>laughing stock of the industry
And you are? Again, you can try as hard you can, it doesn't change the fact everyone laughs at this shitty unwanted system and explicitly ignore it.
>in fact, it's so forgettable
If stating the fact that console simply does not sell is doing an asspull, then ok, whatever makes you sleep tight.
>Next to my glorious master race PC
And to top it off, you guys still have to cling to PC as always because you can't hold your shit together
personally i am among those people who don't buy very many games, but then i spend a lot of time with ones i own. Buying MH4U and PersonaQ me and the likes of me will be to occupied to notice. I usually fish for baragins and don't just buy everything that comes out.
How people who do just opposite will take seasonal droughts is well, a problem for nintendo, but not mine.
I really don't recall that happening at all. There was lots of hype for DK but I don't remember anyone claiming it would save the system.
Hell I don't think even shitposters bothered to put it on the X will save the Wii U chart.
You have no idea how the industry works, do you... Third party sales are free money for console makers through licensing fees, since they didn't spend a single dime on development and marketing.
I bet you even think the point of first party games is to just sell itself, instead of helping increase the console install base.
There are already rumours of AMD contributing for Nintendo's next handheld, but I really doubt that. I might say late 2016 or 2017 myself.
Also there are hints of a Nintendo home console that uses a handheld as a controller, and if it turns out to be true, life expectancy of Wii U and 3DS might be longer.
>mfw I'm apparently Master Race, an Xbro, and a Nintenbro
I understand fully how the industry works.
Yes, third party sales are great and bring in money, but a first party sale will net a company 3-4 times as much money as third party fees will if both games are priced the same. That was my point.
Its likely that AMD, Nvidia and a few others already have offerings sent into Nintendo that are being used in prototype systems. The three things we can probably say for certain about Nintendo's next handheld at this time are it will have ARM based processors, it will use commodity SOCs, and it will run a BSD based operating system.
Because they imprisoned your favorite games to it? This mentality ensures consoles will survive. They feel that the exclusives are a quality of consoles and their mere existence is a gift from sony. Thank you for forcing me to use your hardware!
This shit is only justifiable if sony offers something the others don't. There just isn't anything worthwhile that sony offers other than the games they've imprisoned to their shitty machine. You're proud of your console and you also feel that these consoles have done you good. But ignorance is bliss, not knowing you're getting fucked in the ass is better than coming to the harsh reality.
>The Last Guardian will never be on that list
First party games don't need to be more profitable than third party games, as long as they help push new console units. There is no point in staying first party if your games can't help drive up the install base.
If you're just trying to make a profit then churning out some first party games that are sure sales is a great way to go. If you're trying to establish market share you need third parties far more than first parties though. We've seen that consumers by and large are concerned with the strongest console for the smallest cost. First party games on the PS4 sell really well for about a week which indicates they're more impulse buys than something the consumers have bought the console for.
>you guys are forgetting that Wii was an extraoridinary exeption from nintendo cycle for home consoles.
I feel like people still don't get why Nintendo made the Wii, or the real intention. Yeah it's desperate move, but it's also brilliant counter to the Nintendoom forecast. What those Nintendoom forecaster has forgotten is that Wii's sales are exception because Nintendo's tap into another market on purpose.
The reason why Nintendo's wants the "wii audience" isn't because Nintendo wants casual. It's that Nintendo wants to reverse the red ocean that is cause of their dwindling sales. Sure it's fluke that Nintendo succeeded, but it was intentionally design to reverse the doom forecasts. What's really happening to Nintendo's sales are that they experiencing red ocean where their forecasts are getting worse and worse then before.
The Blue Ocean concept is about ridding youself of those limited sales and projections and boundaries. That's why Nintendo is obsessed with the wii audience(which isn't the Wii audience, people outside of gaming) because they know they can revival the company if they ever tap into a new market again then just make another Nintendo 64/Gamecube/Wii U.
I was wondering what MS would do to entice people in delayed launch countries.
Looks like there is a "nordic day one edition" which comes with fifa 15 and forza 5 (also kinect) for $560~ when new consoles can easily go for $600-$700 in the region that's pretty good.
But I still think the delayed launch hurt them a lot.
x360s advantage was the earlier launch and cheaper price, most casuals will just buy the cheapest console that lets them play fifa and cod.
The day one edition gives them a price advantage but it's in limited supply and after that it looks like price will be $600~ for just console and $640~ with kinect.
