A game series is not obligated to adhere to past decisions
Resident Evil 4 is in every sense a fine game and a fine RE entry
It is also extremely similar in core design concepts to past RE titles, despite a differing approach to angle and pace
Every time someone says
>Resident Evil 4 is a good game, it's just not a good Resident Evil game
translate it directly to
>I don't know very much about the development or the design decisions that went into the RE series, but I judge quality based on my superficial observances regardless.
The "good X, not a good Y" thing always gets me.
Half the time it always seems to manifest as "I really like this game but it's too popular and acclaimed for me to praise it directly"
See also Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Silent Hill 4, etc. Fanbases are generally made up of retards who will disdain whatever happens to their beloved darling, and I think listening to them is a stupid decision on par with its direct opposite, empty demographic pandering.
Castlevania is kind of a weird choice, just because there's the classic platformer types and the Metroidvanias. So it's a flexible franchise. Not "Mario-flexible," but the base elements can work in a lot of genres.
>game series prior to 4 is based around pre-placed item pickups, tank controls, and fixed camera with heavily limited inventory space and storage chests
>from 4 and on, games only had semi-tank controls in common
Gee, I wonder.
Exactly, which is why the whole "Castlevania is dead" aspect of the fandom really puzzles me. LoS2 was a mixed bag, but still a decent game overall, and the first one was excellent. It was very different from anything before it, but so was Symphony of the Night when it came out. And yet all I hear on /v/ is that LoS is a DmC-tier rape of the franchise and should never be spoken of again.
>character uses same stick to move and turn
>has to stop moving to aim
>generally uses same buttons to ready aim and fire, aiming is done using the movement stick
>contextual movement abilities
>one is based on over the shoulder
>one is based on fixed camera
>"USING LEFT STICK MEANS THEY'RE THE SAME"
>"PRESSING BUTTONS TO DO STUFF MAKES THEM THE SAME"
Are you fucking kidding me?
Resident evil 6 is a great game, controls are fluid as fuck, gameplay/shooting is fantastic and the campaign throws ridiculous settings and level designs that make it all the more fun to play, plus mercenaries mode is a blast to play. I have 45 hours into the game total and I don't regret a single minute playing it.
>inb4 underaged who didn't play the older games
I grew up with resident evil and played all of them in release order, even some of the spin offs. I'm just not an autistic fuck who thinks resident evil is a serious survival horror game or should be one. The shift in direction from 3 to 4 wasn't bad at all and I can't believe people are still mad about it.
Well, you also have to remember that for a lot of people, SotN and the subsequent Metroidvania-styled Castlevanias ARE what Castlevania is. The less said about 3D Castlevanias before LoS, the better. There's really no precedent for LoS.
At the turn of the century, when the GBA was out and Melee was making everybody wonder who Marth and Roy were, you had the established English-speaking Fire Emblem fanbase running hate campaigns on everybody that was enjoying the GBA titles.
Now you got people who got into the series with the GBA titles making hate threads nigh-daily about people getting into the series with Awakening. History is weird.
>thread started with a realxxiii picture
>doesn't instantly devolve into delicious brown
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
>Resident Evil 6 felt like you were controlling a jellyfish
It didn't have tank controls, you might as well say 60fps feels bad because it looks like a soap opera.
>immediately squandered any atmosphere it dared to build.
I'm not sure what you mean by that, are you implying it was trying to be a horror game past the first hour?
>any Resident Evil's before 4
who honestly thinks this shit? hurrdurr spamming the button on every pixel to find the item hunt
worst kind of games, same with the original Silent Hills
You know who 23's main couple always reminded me of? Pic related.
This wouldn't be an issue if people paid attention to who actually made the game instead of the name that some company paid for the rights to.
Do you know who made Resident Evil? How about RE4?
Know the difference between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3?
Fallout and Fallout 3?
Instead we have Final Fantasy Whatever rolling along that everyone buys in droves just because they played a fun game called Final Fantasy Somethingelse once. It's all marketing and people eat that shit up.
What about Lament of Innocence? I thought people regarded that 3D CV as pretty decent, if not as beautiful or striking as the 2D games.
I like 4 I just wish the games after it were paced a bit better. It's not like I don't like RE4-style action, but the series feels like it is taking itself way too seriously with 5 and 6.
The games are more than the sum of their parts.
I dunno, I thought 6 was one of the few RE games that didn't take itself seriously, pic very related, this is just like 1/100th of the ridiculous shit the game has in store.
It does sound like bullshit, but DmC's existance makes me thing that this verdict is valid. I mean I enjoyed DmC, but I can list a lot of things that's wrong with it when I compare it with previous titles
>You will never be a tall fit dark skinned qt lesbian
I am not saying there is not ridiculous shit, because that's RE's thing (ridiculous shit).
It's like whenever Wesker or Wesker-offshoots are involved post RE1 the story degenerates into anime/Matrix bullshit.
yes yes >store in RE
but after all these games fans sort of grow to like these characters you know?
>but after all these games fans sort of grow to like these characters you know?
Not really, I mean it's nice to see a returning character but it's nowhere near as important as other key elements such as gameplay. Story was one of the few things you'd want out of a RE game.
Does 23 have any of them
sharing a scarf?
>A game series is not obligated to adhere to past decisions
Obligated? No. Should it? Yes. I'm tired of these faggots saying "Well it doesn't HAVE to do X!' so fucking what? Just because they don't HAVE to doesn't mean they should.
the artist has two brown girls, neither have a dick.
>There are people that think RE4 is better than Remake.
Hnnnngggg. I love this artist because the characters are always drawn in slutty clothes with very apparent nipples and shit, even if the character themself isn't a total slut.
Does anyone know any doujins with exhibitionism like this? Sluts preferred. Exhentai or not. I'm dying here and can't find any good ones.
Story of RE4: Leon Kennedy ends up in fucking Spain, killing zombie mexican doodz, to rescue the daugther of the president of the United States from the Castlevania castle, in which he has to defeat the bald vampire lord, seems fucking legit.
Resident Evil 4 is not a horror game tho, i don't think it even tries in that respect.
Eh, you really need to play it by ear. There's stuff like the Ys remakes which play more like modern entries in the series, or Pokemon which is constantly revisiting and refining its base mechanics and various side stuff.
I can only speak for myself but when I use that, it's me saying if "I were to take out the series continuity for a second, then it's a good game" Other M for example. As far as platformers go, it's pretty good, but the fact that it is a Metroid game means that the story is butchered it makes no sense unless you basically retcon the whole series and since Metroid has had a big emphasis on non-linear exploration, hurts it a Metroid game
Resident Evil 4 is nothing like this. The only thing that has changed was the camera angle. As a by-product it only lad to improvements. Your aiming can be far more accurate for example. But the controls are still "tank". It's not just a good game, it is a GREAT entry in the RE series
>WHEN YOU BUY
The implication there is we're dealing with some kind of underhanded subterfuge and marketing.
They didn't fucking hide anything about RE4. You knew the over-the-shoulder camera, the emphasis on smarter enemies. Mikami was pulling out all the stops that RE4 wasn't just gonna be another by the numbers.
whoops forgot to censor the corner on the previous post. we don't want bad images on a christian board
>Lords of Shadow was bad because it was a blatant copy of Shadow of the Colossus
Did you play the game? There's a demo and everything. It's a God of War clone if anything. Don't just say retarded shit for the sake of being confrontational.
It doesn't matter. When they ride off name recognition of course people are going to compare it to it's predecessors. Dark Souls 3 could be the greatest cart racer in the history of cart racers and people would still compare it to previous Dark Souls.
It's like if you went to see Toy Story 4 and it turned out to be a live action western. People are going to comment on that.
>people would still compare it to previous Dark Souls.
Those people would also be retarded. It's a non-issue if they're being up-front about it. Nobody complained Super Mario Kart wasn't a platformer.
An actual problem is when they try to pretend it's something it's not like DmC.
Super Mario Kart wasn't called Super Mario Bros. 4 (or Super Mario World 2 or anything like that). It was specifically called a kart game.
Nobody is gonna freak out about that telltale Borderlands game not being like a regular Borderlands game. If it was called Borderlands 3... then yeah some people would point out how weird that is.
needed a vertical image to clean this one. i like the way it turned out
You know, I seriously gotta ask.
Are egg timers really that widespread in use? In Japan? 'Cause everyone I know just goes off a regular clock or just off the egg as a visual indicator.
As gay as traps
All this denial
It's the cock that makes it great. Why fight it?
But you are OBJECTIVELY wrong.
RE4 changed the dynamics of RE considerable, it was the beginning of the end.
When the enemies started dropping ammo was when the series was officially dead, and it happened with RE4
There were many other problems in 4 but I am pretty sure you don't care
if futa was gay why is normal porn still a thing when shouldnt it just be all lesbo porn because thats what all straight men get off to?
men want to see cock in their porn, they like to see women get fucked by dick so replacing the man with a woman and sticking a dick on it is the perfect answer.
>all of my favorite artists getting posted in this thread
Time to add one more.
>mfw I saw the cover of chapter 4 on sadpanda thinking it was a regular old hentai piece with some nice art so why not try it out
>mfw I fell for the trap
I took a very cold shower that night.
too bad RED-RUM hasn't drawn futa in the last 10 million years. he didn't even finish pic related
>implying you don't want to suck it
you're not fooling anyone buddy
>You will never be a curvy dominant blonde qt lesbian
it's been so long since we got anything by this guy too. when he wasn't drawing hairy armpits, his art was amazing*
*hairy armpits are gay
Man I saw some collab anathology styled Futa with stuff by Uno Makato, and others and Rum's had his main futa girl stick her dick in a fish bowl and have a bunch of little fish like nibble at her cockhead till she sprayed in the bowl
futa is objectively straight tho, something being gay literally means being homosexual, or rather, sexually attracted to the same sex, since futa is basically a third sex, and as long as you're not fapping to dudes, you are being fully heterosexual when you fap to this third sex .
traps and trannies are gay tho
Perhaps Skyrim is more to your liking? Not many hallways there. Or you could play any multitude of games that doesn't feature navigating hallways in a building.
Also, Resident Evil with on disc DLC? When? Last I checked, only RE game with DLC was 5, and the DLC came out a long while after the game was out, it wasn't on the disc.
>The "good X, not a good Y" thing always gets me.
It always seems like bait because I have seen that argument used for shit games like DmC, Sticker Star, and fucking Other M.
None of those games qualify as "good"
Two can play at this game. I ran to the store and got some magnetic dots, and arranged it so it says the same thing in braille on the fridge. Now we play the waiting game, which consists of watching Dr. Who and playing Resident Evil Revelations
How to fix this "problem": Every game should be judged on its own merits. Also sequels should be illegal, forcing all games to be judged on their own merits.
Going all Ocelot and twirling your gun(s?) would require you to go in to 'aim' mode (Think Resident Evil or Dead Space) and rotate the analog sticks at speeds indicated by a UI element.
You can twirl while moving or jumping; the analog-stick quicktime becomes more difficult based on what you are doing.
Twirling your gun(s) would passively add 'style' points; However, you would be completely vulnerable while twirling and for a few seconds before and after twirling.
Upgrades would increase the number of times a shot could ricochet or make it so that a shot ricochets from a wider variety of angles.
I'm aware that WET is a game that is based around gunplay and being stylish; WET, however, consists of pointing and shooting while doing stylish things.
The concept I have would revolve around the shot itself being stylish.
this picture is so true, the whole time while watching these movies, i kept thinking Oded Fehr, was the only cast member who actually was a resident evil fan.
May want to try a couple of Silent Hill or Old School Resident Evil first.
The general consensus is awesome story, god-tier ost, great atmosphere, shitty gameplay and control scheme.
Well I've played the almost all of Resident Evil and the first Silent Hill. I guess I can deal with the controls if everything else is better.
cool I already beat it like 20 times
Can anyone recommend me some stuff to buy on the PSN store? I have some spare cash and I don't really need any retail games. Thinking maybe From Dust? Would like to get a few things.
well our girl love thread just got gay. gg gents. pic related
They could just push back the game's release date by say, a month, and have that DLC content in the game at launch, but they don't, and it's not because they care so much about your game experience that they want to extend the life of your game
Resident Evil is in dire need of a reboot. The series has lost its way - caught half way between Gears of War and classic RE gameplay. The plot is a tangled mess of po-faced nonsense that takes its C-Movie writing deadly seriously (although it can be enjoyable in spots in 6 - Birkin's campaign in particular).
4 was enjoyable because it dropped all the mechanics of the previous games, which had undergone little to no innovation or significant iteration. They were plenty stale and tired by the time 4 rolled around. Additionally, 4 dropped all semblence of continuinity with the previously established story arc, and instead embraced a ridiculous B-movie jaunt through countryside and castles and prison islands.
tl;dr - open your eyes. You're paying $150 for your games and begging publishers to jack up the price.
But, all of those things you've just said as negatives could be positive if you look at it in a different light.
For example, the fact that it tries to take itself seriously while also being ridiculously cartoony and kiddy is endearing, and the convoluted plot can be fun for some to follow from game to game, much like resident evil's "5 year old gets handed a script" plot.
If you think someone is a qt grill, then it's not gay, right?
>potted plants in labs and on side walks to heal
But... That's every Resident Evil.
My only issue with the limited item space was that a packet of salt took up as much space as a heavy bazooka. If this game was remade I would do two things to the item list.
Each character has their own amount of items they can carry (Ness could carry more than Paula, Jeff would have more than Ness because of science, and Poo would be in last place).
I unironically happen to agree with this.
it's not that her head is small, it's that her body is healthy
Can anyone recommend any good ps1 horror games? already finished
>resident evil 1,2,3
>Dino crisis 1 (if you count that as survival horror)
anyone played CT2, is it worth playing?
You are now imagining yourself as cozy gamer guy sitting back on your couch holding the Wii U controller against your legs playing a black ops stealth game where you're a sniper and also control a second avatar (like Resident Evil 0) your scouter.
Realism plays a key role instead of run-and-gun physics, and the game is as much about dexterity and coordination as it is a constantly shifting puzzler (because you have to adapt to EVERY environmental situation). The Wii U screen acts as the scouter's scope while the TV acts as your line of sight. You aim with one analog, while the 4 shoulder buttons act as various triggers between what you want to control or adjust (height/focus) on your scope and the scouter's with the second analog, while on default the analog simply moves the scouter scope around.
Now make this game so polished and ultra-realistic it puts Crysis to shame and set it up with an online multiplayer environment. There's your CAWADOODY killer and how you acclimate the instant gratification retards that rule this gen to games that require sentience.
I just played the demo today, and it was almost nostalgic from RE1. Maybe because of the whole closet man, but for a huge fan of Resident Evil, I might buy a 3ds just for Revelations.
I want a proper Resident Evil 2 remake on par with REmake.
Resident Evil 4 was the only right direction the Resident Evil series could go in, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't remember how shitty the series had gotten by 2004.
they're copy + pasting from somewhere, probably previous re4 threads from here.
At first I was mad some fag was actually managing to shit up a thread by randomly talking about vidya but the autism required to quote all these shit is quite impressive.
anyway can someone post a pastebin with all the futa exhentais
Seriously? Resident Evil Dead Aim?
Outbreak File #2? They were both terrible and without 4 Capcom would've probably just shelved the entire franchise.
I can agree with this, its now the fucking mona lisa of survival horror...
But im ultimately sad that the closest thing we get now-a-days is Dead space and whatever capcom farts out in the next resident evil franchise
For one: I will good sir
and two: Its fucking resident evil its cheesy as fuck but great survival horror.
>resident evil 1
>majority of difficulty is from clunky controls and bad camera angles
its like myst meets hellraiser meets resident evil.
game play is like 1st person point and click adventure, but like resident evil you explore a mansion and solve puzzles and must avoid traps.
it's automated i'm pretty sure. he's quotting every post in the thread
That means no Zelda, Metroid, Megaman, Resident Evil, Mario, Sonic, etc.
The only Bioware games I have played are the first 2 Mass Effects.
i thought the tank controls never left, but i'll admit that i haven't kept up on the resident evil series
yup, seems like a thread killing bot, it'll just keep posting until it reaches 500 posts, been a while since I saw one of these, I think some aqutist is still typing out every captcha.
poor closet fag prolly can't handle that he finds traps attractive
Resident evil 4 is so polarizing for me.
On one hand it was one of the best games I have ever played and can arguably be put in the discussion for greatest game of all time.
Just go on like normal, who cares?
i think he doesn't have to type the captchas if he has the 4chan pass thing. so it basically lets faggots ruin threads for everyone. maybe i should buy one of those and shit up some threads too. fucking cancer
So that's 5 games I've already played before, one great new game, and one decent Mario game after close to a year after launch. I actually own the fucking console, unlike probably most of you guys who bitch in these threads, and even I know when a company deserves to be criticized.
you bought the epilogue dlc? was it worth it? because ive been wanting to get it for over 2 years now but i don't know if its worth it.
Also, while the Metal Gear series has never had a jewish protagonist, Otacon is officially jewish and Meryl is speculated to be.
2. Ico / Shadow series
3. Oddworld series
4. Resident Evil 1-4
5. Dark Souls
Myst because it is one of the best adventure games of all time.
Ico because, again, it is an amazing adventure game, and it really had amazing atmosphere and soundtrack
Resident Evil 4 was fine, hipter.
Resident Evil because it scared the shit out of me, and 4 was fun even though it wasn't survival horror.
Dark Souls because it was a great change from your typical cookie cutter RPG right now, reminded me a bit of the old days. I could go in depth, but no one will read this anyways.
Like it's actually supported by some companies or sometihng?
>resident evil x
Sorry bro, we have different taste in vidya.
Actually, looking at your list again, its not so bad. I see you have some devil may cry and classic resident evil.
I take my back my older statement, your seem like a cool guy.
Ace Combat Series, excluding last piece of shit, for ungodly soundtrack, gameplay and cheesy, but awesome stories putting you as the center of war machine. Oh, and FUCKING FINAL MISSIONS, FUCK YEAH!
2. Penis/ Penis series
3. Penis Series
4. Resident Penis 1-4
5. Penis Souls
Myst because it is one of the best adventure penises of all time
Ico because, again, it is an amazing penis game, and it really had amazing penis and soundtrack.
Can love between girls bloom on the battlefield?
Final Fantasy series, fuck you, I really enjoyed them all (except 13). Started with VIII, it's still mah fave (maybe because of nostalgia goggles), but finished almost every single one aside from 3rd one.
Chrono Trigger for ability to fuck up with endings in different moment of game.
I keep having dreams about zombies but that's because I played Resident Evil 2 abot a week ago.
You really don't need some sort of resident-evil conspiracy theory for a zombie game.
what the literal fuck is going on in this thread
I mean, that's just fucking ridiculous, you can't really add more story then that
Way back when I had Resident Evil 4 on the gamecube, I remember trying out HUNK and getting the hang of his neck breaker move. I was surrounded and started to break the necks of mofos while trying not to get caught by that chainsaw woman.
I felt like the biggest badass and had such an adrenaline rush I almost forgot I was playing a game. It was the most intense experience I've ever had playing vidya.
So we've gotten down to length = quality and narrative does not belong in videogames?
I read Alice in Wonderland in about an hour. I bought that book and enjoyed it. I have not read it since, I do not feel cheated or insulted in anyway, shape or form. I could take more time or less time to read it if I choose to do so again. It is not a lesser book because it took less time to read than the Lord of the Rings.
I bet 5 dollars the spammer was bullied by girls in school
Some guy is trying to talk about video games in a yuri/futa/trap thread.
Final Fantasy is not a better game than Resident Evil 4 because its longer. It just means its longer.
a 5 minute long Hana Barbera cartoon is argueably better than most full length animated movies. I would buy 1 of those for whatever they asked for it, if I enjoyed it enough.
I liked Dear Esther enough for the thoughtful, slow Ghost Story, much like "Whistle and Ill Come to You", a short affecting little Ghost Story that I enjoyed enough to buy.
The medium does not matter to me because I enjoy things outside of videogames and do not think I am the gate-keeper to what is and is not a game.
The shit game we saw for DNF wasn't made by the original team.
Most of the original duke team left 3DR, which prompted the then-Head to scrap the entire game and start from scratch.
By scrap, I mean deleted every single thing without return. They had no references to what was done on the previous project besides their memories of the work they had done.
The game that followed after that was the shitstain that was picked up from the grave of 3DR and released.
Think of DNF as non-canon. Because it pretty much isn't Duke at all.
It is like saying the new Resident Evil games are good. They are trash, they aren't Resident Evil at all. They are "new audience" shit action games like all the CoD kiddies love.
Make sure to play online or local multiplayer mode. This is the real way to play Mario Kart 7.
Consider buying Resident Evil Revelations if you like survival horror.
Keep an eye on the release list. If the Nintendo DS' success is any indicator, the 3DS' game library might explode sooner or later.
Otherwise, I see no reason for you to keep your 3DS. Gift it or sell it or just put it on your shelf.
Resident Evil 4 had a lot of voice-acting and it's not overrated.
Okay you want to talk about vidya, let us talk about warband at least, do you like it?
Except she was thrown in at the last min. to replace either Jill or Barry during development so Capcom would not be questioned if they were Racist or not. She was originally just supposed to be a 1 time damsel in distress.
She was a last min. cop out character and that's all she will ever be.
nope i have no interest in these lazy ass HD remakes. Do something like the Resident Evil remake for gamecube and then i might be interested
First time I played through Resident Evil 4. And then when I played it again with new weapons.
Also the first time in Dracula's Castle in Order of Ecclesia.
Fun long beautiful rpg adventure vs stupid retarded resident evil game, who even plays 3rd person shooters on a hand held?
well i intend on getting both eventually, i'd ust hate to end up getting RE: Revalations over ToTA if ToTA turns out to be in low print.
>Fun long beautiful rpg adventure vs stupid retarded resident evil game, who even plays 3rd person shooters on a hand held?
That's a hard one
it plays pretty well with the Gyro Sensor for aiming, or at least in the Demo t does.
Honestly like both Genres.
So does Revelations play like Resident Evil 4? If it's like the older Resident Evil games with the shitty controls and camera angles then I'm not interested.
what i agree with
>Ass creed 1 and 2
> Gta 4/ San andreas
>resident evil 4
>knights of the old republic
What i havent played
> Mgs 4
>Shadow of the colossus( i just never played it deal with it.)
> crysis 2
>god of war
What i dont agree with
Truly a sad story for Sterk.
Off-topic porn threads on /v/ are usually pretty bro-tier though.
Honestly I am so impressed with Resident Evil: Revelations, the Raid Mode is so fucking good.
>An online horror game.
>Mixture of resident evil, silent hill, clock tower, and a table spoon of penumbra
> Each character has their know duty. player one holds the weapon, player two character uses the flashlight to light the way, and I'm still thinking what jobs player three and four can do
> I want it like where in clock tower you can hide from the monsters, but if someone is talking on their mic while hiding from the monster, he'll come in that direction.
>And the ability to create your own character.
unigine benchmark on google and you are good to go.
It has directX11 and tessalation.
>There will never be another Lonely Yuri
Why even live? ;_;
for a more gameplay aproach i found the alien vs predator and resident evil 5 benchamrk tools to be quite good of an indicator how smooth things will run while actually gaming instead of a fairly syntethic test like the unigine.
The 3DS games I've bought so far are:
>Super Street Fighter IV 3D
>Ocarina of Time 3D
>Dead or Alive Dimensions
>Super Mario 3D Land
>Mario Kart 7
>Resident Evil Revelaitons
I sold SSFIV for DOA, and I never looked back. It and Revelaitons are handily the best retail purchases I've made for the 3DS yet. And that's not even considering the eShop, and I'm not even gonna go there. I've got games I need to finish before buying other games. Still haven't gotten around to MSF, VVVVVV, or Mutand Mudds yet.
>Is it any good?
Why is that even a question?
>It's been lingering in my HDD since forever.
Go read it right now.
Resident Evil's soundtracks don't get the appreciation they deserve. The games have by far the most underrated OSTs in vidya.
if you like RPGS you might want to pick up Tales of The Abyss which comes out today in north american (already out in euro im pretty sure)
might give you a nice long game to spend your time on, and RE:Revelations is fucking amazing if you like resident evil
>Last game you bought
Resident Evil: Revelations
>Last game you pirated
>Last game you completed
>Next game you plan on buying
GTA V unless something interesting comes out or is on sale
>Next game you plan on pirating
>Game(s) you are currently playing
Forza 4, F1 2011, Kerbal Space Program
>Current favorite game
>All-time favorite game
To many to choose.

The one that has got me most angry and disappointed was Brink, so that
What was your first console
Resident Evil 1 and 3 knife only
Okay, the first thing I will say is that since you're already making death impossible, you should make it so there are no traditional death sequences.
Fear in video games is based on feeling like you will actually die. That feeling is heavily numbed if you die multiple times -- like if you keep dying in the same spot in a Resident Evil game, that spot becomes less intimidating.
If there's any way to do so, you need to make the character's death ambiguous and questionable. Like you were being attacked and then suddenly X, or somehow Y, or something. Like... make it feel POSSIBLE to die in the game, but never actually let it happen. Prolong the fear.
