Mother thread? Anybody got any Mother reaction pics? Preferably Ness but any are welcome
but what I want to know is where's the caveman?
They're your typical turn-based RPG. I'd start with Mother 2 because it fixed the bullshit random encounters from the first one by making enemies visible on the overworld along with many other improvements, and is basically Mother 1: The Retelling in terms of characters. All three games can stand on their own story-wise even when having some references to the plot of the previous ones. Arguably, Mother 3 has the better story but is more linear.
Personally I'd go Mother 2/Earthbound -> Mother 3 -> Mother 1, but eventually play them all.
They function as a normal turn based rpg.
Earthbound is a lot more surreal and has off beat humor.
Mother 3 is a weird game while still having around the same quirks as 2 it's themes are a lot different and it conveys them well, the story in 3 in my opinion is better
Sure, just don't forget to take the baseball bat in your sister's room and equip it. Also the L button can act as talk/check so don't always NEED to open the menu to select those options. That comes from Itoi wanting the game to be playable with one hand.
>not playing in order
>seriously suggesting playing mother 1 last
Fuck you fag.
Also play touhou mother if you want a really good fangame that connects those two worlds and
mother2 to mother 3.
rpg turn based, similar to golden sun. understanding mechanics is relatively easy and you learn as you go. the plot, humor, deepness, and creativity is what the series is mostly known for. I played them 2>3>1 and I loved it.
Pretty skeptical until I saw the teaser, looks great so far for a fanmade game. The level up jingle thing was also really cool, anyone who puts that much detail into something like that knows what they're doing for the most part.
motha fuggin Ness of the Mess with the vess he got hess with the less for the bess
Been hyped about it ever since I finished Mother 3 back in 2010. I can't believe it's been that long already, but holy shit man, only a few more months!
I also really love the music they posted so far, especially the Night theme. I heard that back in 2011 I think and it's just as good as it was then.
It's very nice looking, I honestly don't really see the problem most people have with it being called 4, but I have high hopes for it, and I'm very curious what route it will go with that green goop.
Mr. Saturn say hello. Have questions? Answer good boing.
Am I the only one who tried to get into the series starting with the first one, wound up being in love with Mother and excited to play Earthbound, but am having a hard time playing it?
I don't know why, but it's a bit difficult for me to stay engaged in this game whereas I played Mother almost non-stop until the end.
I'm still pissed that Lucas' cut, he was my main in Brawl and I preferred pretty much every single one of his moves (B and otherwise) to Ness'.
Sure they can give Ness Lucas' B moves as customs but that won't change any of his A-moves...
Of all the clones to come back and be introduced, why include the most clone-like like Falco, Dr. Mario, Toon Link and Lucina instead of the most different like Wolf, Lucas and Mewtwo?
How is your day Mr. Saturn?
I first stepped into the Mother series playing the series in order, and I really do love the first one, but I don't have a hard time getting into Earthbound. The first Mother game holds a special place in my heart.
The first two games are very similar. Mother 2 has a better encounter system, animated battle backrounds and pop culture references. The last point is mainly why it is so well liked.
Wolf was pretty sweet as he was the black sheep of clones. He only had the same special moves and even then they functioned totally different from the main space animals. Mechanic-wise, I am sad (and perplexed why) he's out of it too.
If it makes you feel any better, Lucas is pretty op in Project M, and his sweet Commander alt skin
What pisses me off more than that, is even though they included Lucas and New Pork City, they tried to underrepresent Mother as much as possible. 4 characters, Mr Saturn, Porky Statue, and the Franklin Badge were all the trophies Mother got. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing and Kirby are filled to the brim with characters no one gives two shits about. The Ultimate Chimera didn't even get a trophy.
For everyone that wants more Mother...
You're not going to get it. However, give this game a shot.
It's not quite Earthbound inspired, nor a clone.
It feels as if it's the kind of game an alternate universe may have made in Earthbound's place. Not the "evil" kind of alternate universe. Just the "unsettling" kind.
Yeah. I understand that Mother is a series that isn't continuing anymore, but seeing just how underrepresented Mother appears in Smash 4 makes me sad. Then again, I can't say anything with 100% certainty until Smash 4 comes out.
So, I know that this is primarily a Mother thread and not Smash, but how do you guys feel about Giygas being an assist trophy in Smash now?
So, if your mom didn't do this for you then you weren't loved, just saying
The first one is so far the only I've actually beat. I've only reached Fourside in Earthbound (and now I'm stuck with the two mice guarding some dude and I need 2 items to get past them, and I'm too lazy for that right now). In Mother 3, I reached the DCMC concert thing.
M3's plot peaks end of chapter 1, between (but not during) 2 and 4, and the end is the big explosion. No one has the balls not to shed a tear beating mother 3
Leder monologue underground Newpork
campfire scene where Flint learns of Hinawa's fate
"you must be tired"
I legit started crying as I typed this just remembering
I played Mother 3 when the patch came out and it completely changed how I interpreted game design.
I'm right before the last boss in Earthbound, which for the past two weeks i've been playing for my first time. I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it as much as 3, but I can't put into words how much i'd overrate both these games.
They're easily my favorite games.
>/v/ uses my crap
You made a guy feel special. Thanks /v/
Those of you who say play Mother first, fine. those of you who say play Earthbound first, fine too. But let's get one thing straight- play both of them in your lifetime. The stories may have solo value, but tying the trilogy together is more than just icing on the cake.
Gigyas as a psychic alien orphan, who is adopted by Ninten's grandparents. He is taken in, loved, but then forced by his home planet to enslave the planet that took him in. To a species of emotionless beings, feelings of love and sentiment mean nothing, but Gigyas was raised different. He was the only one of his kind to feel, to love, and to betray. He offered Ninten to come along with him not because of the power he possessed as a psi user, but a feeble attempt to repent for what he did to Maria and George.
to be continues
Fast forward to Earthbound.
It portrays Gigays as a mad, power hungry creature who is the embodiment of evil. He uses this power to "contaminate" the minds of other weaker willed individuals. Why has he changed? After years of accepting his betrayal to his foster parents, Gigyas was ironically crossed by his home world. Being betrayed by one family that forced him into betraying his other family drove him to insanity and the fact that it was all his choice, all his fault was probably the last straw to push him over the deep end. He locked himself away for ages, storing this deep deep spite and hatred, manifesting it into darkness, only to enact revenge on the last planet that stands. He would not be a threat if it weren't for Porky, and his time-paradox tampering with Gigyas. by the power of prayer and the eight melodies, Gigyas is reminded of the love he once shared with his Mother, Maria. This is when he became even more scared. He couldn't handle himself anymore, and was eventually crushed by the weight of his own evil.
Not even going into the
effects all this had on Porky, I'd say Gigyas is Just as true a main character as Ness and Ninten
Did Hiimdaisy actually make a Mother comic?
And that's it.
Just wait for his Amiibo.
