The story is like B-movie tier. It's there but you're playing/watching it for other reasons like gameplay/gore/cheezy action.

I have played every DMC game extensively and I still cannot ascertain any story, even after watching every cutscene. The only one I can get a possible read of is 4, and even then all I can figure is Nero wanting his gf + some sorta ancient evil awakening.

DMC4 has the best gameplay and can play at max settings on virtually any computer. Its one of the best ports ever.

Because it needed some tweaking apparently. They just made it with MTframework which runs better on its home turf but the playable version was compiled firstly for consoles.

Bud, be sure to get DMC3 eventually, it is the best DMC game and one of the best games of the 6th gen easily. Just get the HD collection for PS3 or 360, they're like $12.
Also you're gonna want to play with a Dual Shock or a controller with the same layout for DMC4. It makes style switching way easier.

What are everyone's complaints with DmC? I actually somewhat liked it, although it did seem very VERY easy until the highest difficulty.

Nope. You can potentially avoid everything. Artificial difficulty means there are things left up to the luck of the game to avoid. In DMC the player can plateau with knowledge and execution enough to avoid/parry everything.
Also this is coming from someone that DMD gives a fuck ton of trouble to so i'm not being biased. I'm more of a Ninja Gaiden player. Ninja Gaiden 2 is the closest thing in NG to artificial difficulty and that is mostly because of some frame drops and my believe chip damage has no place in NG outside of a few boss attacks.
There are very few areas in DMC3/4 where the player can't control the camera completely. If you can control the camera it can't be below slightly annoying. Ninja Gaiden Black has objectively the best not completely controllable Camera.
DMC1s camera is really fucking annoying sometimes though. Nightmare fight 3 is light a tribute to bad cameras.

The only DMC game I had real, lasting trouble with was 4, just because of how unintuitive it is to switch styles so often as dante. Once you actually get the hang of it though, it's barely tolerable.

What I like about the Devil May Cry games is that for the most part the games don't take themselves seriously. Dante is a huge dork who thinks he is cool and he is clearly having fun with the battles. And in 4 he loves making fun of basically everything.

Artificial difficulty refers to something which is not the player's fault (a player can't overcome it purely based on skill). Example of artificial difficulty: you have very low hp while enemies are bullet sponges; the enemy AI is inhumanly accurate; the enemy has infinite ammo; enemies have infinite respawn; the friendly AI/pathfinding is so bad when you depend on them, that it cripples you. DMC has almost none of those, if any.

The fact that it was so easy was one of the biggest complaints, along with the color-coded enemies, boring platforming and having to hold the shoulder buttons to change stances (they should've just let us toggle them). The story and characters were a minor gripe in comparison.
