>win and say good game >they think I'm being condescending >win and don't say anything >they think i'm silently laughing at them >lose and say good game >they think i'm salty as fuck >lose and don't say anything >they think i'm mad as fuck
>>263480454 This. Multiplayer games have been, since the beginning of time, something like a simulated, safe alternative to war. Especially between strangers, there needs to be some kind of catharsis at the end to show there's no hard feelings and that both parties understad that it's "just a game".
>>263479907 Its called sportsmanship you cunt. Its like a handshake you don't need to like or agree with the other person its just a way of paying respect. Unless something like lag or some unfair circumstances are involved it was a good game. If they shit stomped you its because of your own mistakes you must accept this.
>>263480427 >win and don't say anything >they think i'm silently laughing at them
this one needs work, your other stuff was okay, but this one just doesn't make sense. the next time you repost this i hope you've come up with a better reason after game interaction is a no-win situation
>>263480375 Saying gg in fighting games is really hard. Its what kinda makes it hard to play a set online the offline sometimes. If someone stomps you a set and says gg its just angering. Offline i'm not angry because its handshake and more endearing.
Any other genre saying gg isn't hard. But in fighting games since its a pure 1 on 1 of the truest kind if you lose you feel angry at yourself alot of the time.
Saying gg when you lose is a sign of respect towards the person that bested you. A gesture you are not holding any hard feeling and that you believe that it was, indeed, a good game, despite you losing. Skipping on it is usually a sign that you are frustrated, or that you don't believe the loss was fair. Similarly, you might use it when you win if you believe that it was a close win, though I'd probably wait with posting it if it was a wipe, otherwise it might seem like rubbing it in.
In general, it's a sign of respect and acknowledgement that it was all in good sport. If you refuse to do it, you can easily look like a cunt to others.
>>263481203 I'm pretty sure most people don't do this though. Atleast i don't when i stomp people or expect them to say anything. If a set is like 5-3 or 5-4 or hell even 5-2 its more reasonable. But 0 or 1 games to 5 isn't gg material for either player.
>>263481526 >Skipping on it is usually a sign that you are frustrated, or that you don't believe the loss was fair. Go fuck yourself. There are so many different reasons why they would not type it. Like, for example, they didn't have any opinion whatsoever on the game.
PERSONALLY, I never say gg because I PERSONALLY believe the acronym to be retarded and not courteous. Just take the effort to type "good game" when it actually is a good game you lazy fucks.
You piece of shit sheeple, you don't even internalize what any of it means, you just fucking say it because "UHHH MUH NETIQUETTE" go fuck yourself, stop enforcing this shit I will fucking rip your goddamn eyes out of your fucking skull.
>>263482713 >Go fuck yourself. There are so many different reasons why they would not type it. Like, for example, they didn't have any opinion whatsoever on the game. That is exactly what I said, kid. When you are frustraited, you don't feel that the game was fair or otherwise you have issue with how the game went beyond your own mistakes, you usually skip the post. You should probably work on that reading comprehension before you advising people to "go fuck yourself".
As for chosing whenever you write an acronym or actually full statement, I can agree on that for the most part, but that does not really change anything about the meaning of the phrase and the circumstances in which it is expected to be used.
>>263479907 >playing CSGO with randoms and one friend >one guy keeps doing stupid shit like crouching in front of doors we wanted to rush through and not seeing enemies right in front of him >he wasn't doing this on purpose >other guy starts yelling at all of us and even knifes me on purpose one round for not meeting his quota >kill him >original moron kills me >kill him again next round because I don't want to deal with these people for 15 rounds
Since then I've never played with random people on my side.
>>263484870 implying they want or need to be taken seriously.
They're big enough on their own, and honestly, not going mainstream would be better for the scene. No political correctness or SJWs shitting in, no Dorito Pope or mountain dew etc, all the shitty things the mainstream brings with him
>>263484971 That is how etiquette works, kid. It's a set of customs. Do you also get completely frustered and start throwing pathetic little hissy-fits when you are supposed to say "good morning" to your neighbour even though you don't find that particular morning very good?
You seriously need to grow up and calm down a little. This is pretty fucking pathetic and you really are coming across as a 12 years old with bad temper.
In sport, if someone who lost refused to do a handshake, everyone would give him shit for being a bitter big baby and force him to do that handshake.
In "e-sport", if you don't say gg/bg or if you're throwing bird names at everyone and blaming people for a loss, the winners, and optionally your team will think you're a bitter faggot and there's no point trying to even argue with you.
Having your team saying gg, or saying gg yourself when the game end on a loss show that you hold no grudge to the winner, in return the winner can simply say "gg" to return the compliment.
Saying "gg" first when you're winning mean "this was a good game for me/us, we don't care about you", showing no respect to your competitors.
"ez" is just a way to rub salt on the wound.
"Ironic shitposting" ("gg fuk u :^)" for example) should be followed with something in the vein of "no really, that was a good/shit game", otherwise you sound like a bitter mad cunt.
>>263484424 >feeling indifferent is the same as being frustrated Read a dictionary sometime, boy. Or maybe you're ego is so large you read into any behavior as being mad so you can feed on nonexistent tears.
>>263484971 Nigga what planet are you coming from? It's an old fucking custom from back in the day we played because we enjoyed playing. We said gg at end because that's what it was. a good game for everyone involved. Everyone played to their best ability. The losing team congratulated the winning team a game well played with their first "gg" and the winning team respectfully replied gg to mark that they enjoyed playing against them. There was NEVER any kind of negativity implied in saying gg until some ASSFAGGOTS started making it "gg easy" or just "ez" or whatever. In some Starcraft leagues it is to this day a punishable offense not to gg properly.
>>263479907 >playing rts >some guy is trying to macro up for endgame units and totally skimming on everything else >rush him >beat him >get a request from him to join his game >"oh good, 1v1 was getting boring maybe he wants to 2v2" (since u need an actual team to 2v2 because of low pop pub games) >join his game, he wants to 1v1 >eh, ok i guess >he has a different race picked >i just pick random >has unusual map picked out too >map heavily favors his race and strat >He beats me >ok cool maybe he will 2v2 with me if i ask him >Im about to say somehting to him when I get a message from him: >"haha i bet you thought you were so cool, faggot" I wanted to 2v2 but he just wanted to mend his bruised ego. Why do play multiplayer games? i hate people.
>>263479907 >join a guild in archeage >pretty cool dudes >invite me to team speak >they sound like a bunch of women but are males >theres always that one submissive cock slut healer that pisses me off in dungeons >leave team speak >solo from now on
>>263488365 >tripfag >calling others beta. projecting much? Also there is nothing wrong with losing. Fucking hell if you gave your best and you lost more often than not you can actually improve yourself by looking at what you could have done better. If you just stomp all day you might as well play against some easy AI.
No, fuck off, back in my day we actually spoke like fucking human beings, and maybe threw a few punches over people getting salty over a match.
This idea of just going "HEY GG GUYS, GG" is just fucking obnoxious. I don't give a fuck where you come from, I don't give a fuck that some retards running a tournament get their panties in a twist over people not wanting to adhere to their bullshit, it's fucking stupid. You can be silent, you can shit talk, you can be DAMN SON THAT WAS A GREAT MATCH, but the moment you try boiling everything down to two fucking letters you say regardless of how ANYTHING in the match went down, you're a cancerous fucking piece of shit and I wish the woes of the world upon you because you deserve it.
>>263488518 >3v3 >one of their players disconnect >they play great but hardly matters and you mop the floor with them. probably would have lost if guy hadnt dcd >"bg 2ez" >deny a rematch or 1v1 cause "dont waste time on scrubs lel"
>playing CS:GO >get queued into a match of silvers/low nova master >a few kids with anime avatars that spout 4chan memes the entire game are on the other team >16-5/16-0/16-10 score >say gg out of respect >they get upset literally the worst
>>263488835 Nigga it's easily 15 years old. said it back in the day in counter strike. Said it back in SC. nobody I've ever met back then was sore about "gg" it was just what was said at the end of the game because that's what it was. Yes sometimes you wrote more if it was a particularly interesting match and sometimes you even befriended People. Still it was just a polite way of ending the game. Like a refs whistle at the end of the game. Nobody hated anybody for saying gg. That just didn't happen. It was completely normal just as we always said "gl&hf" at the start of every cs match. Nothing of that was hateful or spite or anything. We genuinly wished them to have a good match and have some fun and we genuinly enjoyed the game even if we lost. And after the game we re-joined irc and looked for new opponents. It's a new thing done by some stupid kiddys to take offense in "gg". Ask any gamer over 22 who used play these games if anyone ever had a problem with "gg" and I guarantee you none of them will. Not back in the day.
>>263491490 stop reminding me of that game, god, 40fps on average, fucking hell I'm still mad, how the hell did people maintained the lie that it was 60fps throughout the year since it has came out is beyond me.
>>263491680 Nigga you're still interacting with other human beings. If you play a board game with some people in the physical world with a random person and after an hour of play the loser says "ha. that was a good game. I enjoyed that!" you wouldn't jump up and yell "FUCK YOU SORE LOSER I OWNED YOUR FAGGOT FACE!". You would say "I agree. want to play again some time?" Why do so many people on /v/ have such a problem with acting like a normal fucking human beeing in online games?
>>263483472 This once happened to me while dueling someone in Dark Souls, rolled away and did the 'point forward' emote, ran to answer door. Came back and the guy was just calmly waiting for me. >Such haunaaaar. >Much respect.
>>263492335 Ha that's me right now >2014 >still playing WoW >raid right now (and for 2more hours) >I made room for someone who needs loot since I have everything >would really like to play DotA. >playing Space Engineers instead because I might get pulled in if a lineup change happens and I don't just wanna abandon 9 others even if I don't know them.
if you don't smack-talk all day, every day, every time you kill someone, every time you die, every time you win or lose, then you're a fucking scrub who need to give up video games or go play Farmville.
Video games used to be so fun when everyone smack-talked. Unfortunately after around 2005-2006ish the casual masses flooded Vista and now every match is silent, polite, and ends with "gg".
>>263493501 Or to put it in other words. By sperging out over "gg" or saying shit like "gg ez" or trying to be a shitter for any other reason you don't actually look cool or above people like you're likely to try to come across as. You actually just look like this guy: >>263493523 >>263490596
>>263494174 >>263495082 Like I said, it's the internet. You're interacting with people miles and miles away from you from a screen. What does it matter if they can't get to you? Unless you're an idiot who puts their info right out there then you can act like a shit benis as much as you like on the internet. And when it comes to video games, there's no such thing as 'sportsmanship' because video games aren't fucking sports. They're a form of entertainment, unless you're competitively playing tournies (in which you'd be called an 'ebin autist X)' for taking video games seriously).
