OP I really hope you're a troll. All other smash games are babby-tier. Your video only shows ground attack animations, the reason why melee is so quick is because you can cancel attack lag using techniques unique to melee (ie l-cancelling) and because there is more hitstun, which allows you to combo longer. It has nothing to do with the animations.
Melee wasn't fast because of the game speed alone. It mostly looked fast because you could be buttery smooth and go EXACTLY where you want to without fumbling around jumping too high or running too far or getting stuck in awkward animations for turning around or stopping.

That comparison video gives the wrong impression. Basically on hit the ending frames of a move (i.e. Pikachu sitting on his ass after Thunder) are cancelled/sped up.
They're not exploits, l-cancelling, wave dashing, and platform cancelling were all purposely programed into the game to make it more interesting for non-babby players. In later games Samurai purposely tried to slow it down because he changed his mind and decided that smash should be only a "party game" for babbies, so he added "features" like random unpredictable tripping in brawl to slow the game down. Also he took out l-cancelling and wavedashing.
While attack animations have a part of it, it's not a huge factor in the game's speed.
If an enemy goes flying each time he's hit and slowly floats back to the stage to reengage with the opponent then it's going to feel slow and boring. So there's more to it, but this is somewhat of a start on a good comparison between game speeds.
Oh I know, it did come out slightly under 3 years after 64.
If you can show me where in the manual or how to video where these exploits are mentioned as "features", then I will concede.

It is certainly not a glitch. Airdashing diagonally was something programmed into the game, all wavedashing is, is doing it close to the ground so it's more of a slide. This does not break anything, it's just abusing the game mechanics.

This is the reason most people cling to wavedashing and the sort, it already exists and can be demonstrated.

My experience has actually been pretty shitty. If I play with the same guy on Supercade the game is super smooth, but on KoF we get mad input delay. Had to put up with bigger bullshit on the console netcode though.

I play a fuck ton of fighting games and I love watching competitive Smash.
None of the games after Melee will be as "fast" as melee due to the fact that fucking melee is broken as fuck.
Melee is not a competitive game in the traditional sense as outlined in the game itself, it is competitive in what I consider the "Competitive Speedrun" category. It is literally solely tech chases and exploitation to win, and while yes, it is impressive and takes a lot of skill, it's like competing to glitch out of a map first to win a game.
The 3DS game is shaping up to be more competitive in the traditional sense without being super fucking slow like Brawl, which I am glad for. I mean fuck some of the shit you have to do in melee to be good in the tournament scene is harder than the shit you have to do in any traditional fighter, not that a difficulty barrier is bad, but fuck if melee is broken as fuck for a game.
It requires the most inputs. Usually in a game you can just press one direction to move or up to jump. In melee you have to do 17 inputs just to get from one platform to the next.

Interesting, but showing all the wrong stuff. So in most cases here Melee is already faster or on par, with the only slower one being Pikachu's down b. It also showed gameplay clips at the end that capture the speed of Brawl/3DS, but don't even touch the surface of Melee. Rather than getting into boring specifics i think that will actually sum up everything im trying to say. At the bare surface level, the games are somewhat similar. But that's as deep as it goes for all games but Melee. Throw in all the advanced techniques and most importantly the aerial game, and melee becomes several times over faster than the other 2 COMBINED. I think my main gripe with this video actually is that it didnt show aerial hang times and aerial landing lags, which range from 1.5-6 times faster for melee than either of the other two. That's where the largest difference comes into play.
Those buzzwords are used a lot because many people on /v/ do not have English as their mother language. So they have a small vocabulary. You could understand that if you play assfaggots 2 with /vg/

Brawl is the slowest bar none, thanks to it's forced input lag.

To be fair, it's certainly is a step down from Brawl where there were stages that could stay competitive while still being a fun stage in itself, like Frigate Orpheon or Delfino Plaza. In Smash 3DS though, it seems like every stage that could be competitive has some sort of bullshit hazard.
Wily's Castle has Yellow Devil, N's Castle has Pokemon wrecking shit up, that gorgeous Mother stage I keep forgetting the name of has Masked Man and Pyrosphere will probably have Ridley. I wouldn't mind it much if at least it had the option to turn hazards off.

I'm kind of annoyed at the lack of decent neutral stages for the DS version, even Brawl had stages like Frigate Orpheon, Castle Siege, or Halberd that weren't static but still balanced enough for competitive play. For Smash 4 it's like every otherwise decent stage like Wily's Castle or Magicant are ruined by stage bosses (and let's face it, is anyone going to think those are a cool idea after like the 5th time playing there?).

After expecting a proper sequel in brawl, and getting let down in that respect, most of us are content with this one being fun and competitive on it's own, even if it will never reach melee's level.
FD mode is like the laziest goddamn thing ever, if I wanted to play on a flat featureless stage I would just choose actual Final Destination. He could've at went the PM route and made a bunch of Battlefield reskins because platforms are very good for balance in general, or at the very least give the option to turn off stage bosses.
yeah which means they all count as one stage in terms of design, outside of the fact that some have flat walls leading to the ledge and some have slopes and some have those annoying ceilings you can get stuck on like Brawl's FD
believe it or not, having a wide variety of neutrals / counterpicks is fun. probably my favorite part of PM is the stages they included with it

I think it's a nice effect and all but don't really like it that much. Part of the fun in Smash was the thrill of wondering whenever or not that one smash attack you just landed was going to knock that guy off the stage.
On the contrary, I dislike the Brawl and Kerfuffle airdodge since there is generally very little risk in doing it.
Especially in Brawl. Brawl's airdodge literally cancelled hitstun, regardless of how much you actually had.
FD is not nearly as popular as the dumb "Fox only, Final Destination" meme would make people think.
Pretty much this, I like melee, even in competitive nature, but the people who complain that smash4 isn't melee2.0 after brawl are just the fucking worst. And I don't mean "I wish it was Melee 2.0" its more "This game is shit because its not melee 2.0 what was sakurai thinking" shit that is fucking retarded.
Sakurai made it FD since it was the most popular stage picked on Brawl's online. Like it or not, it's what pleases most players of the fanbase whether they be tourneyment oriented or not.

unlike the folks who just spastically shout at every little thing that happens (I love D1 but he does this way too much), and the others that are afraid that they'll kill hype by pretending any match-up is uneven (Prog never makes any predictions or analysis, he's basically just a really nice voice), Toph and Scar will call shit out way before it even happens and point out high-level reads and mindgaems that the untrained eye wouldn't spot.

The closest thing I've seen to Toph shitting on a player is when he's being super critical of mew2king, and the only reason he does that is because he's basically the #1 fan of Mew2king in the world and Scar is #2.
It's refreshing to hear commentators actually talk about the decision-making process of the game, and even offer criticism and analysis from time to time, instead of just repeating stuff like 'wow that was amazing!' and he's going to have to play really well to win now', etc
what I find depressing is that as deep as melee was, casuals still loved and played it back in the gamecube era, I will never understand how keeping the mechanics from melee to the new smash would "alienate" casual players since at the end all they care about is playing 4 on 4 with items and the new characters, they are pleased easily.
it kinda goes like this
smash with complicated mechanics = pleased hadcores and pleased casuals
smash without complicated mechanics = only pleased casuals
tl;dr why try to please casuals if they already easy to please in the first place? the hardcores are still going to win ANYWAYS no matter how much you dumb the mechanics anyways because they will still dedicate countless hours to become the top players.

Melee is still faster but to the point where it's almost indistinguishable. Also, they spread the frames more evenly across startup, active, and recovery in sm4sh, compared to Brawl's sluggish recovery and Melee's fast active frames.
I feel melee will always be the major leagues because of the skill/tech ceiling.

Fair enough, though it bugs me that Sakurai seems to know nothing of the concept of match-ups and how stages effect them.
For Glory and the FD reskins were misguided attempts to cater to competitive players that fell completely on their faces due to Sakurai really not knowing anything about comp.
Sakurai is basically against the idea of better players being able to consistently win against worse players by learning the cool, less obvious shit, hence Brawl being dumbed down to hell and back to close the gap.
Sadly, better players are going to beat worse players regardless of that sort of shit, and all it accomplished was extending Melee's lifespan.
Someone do me a favor and take a picture of the following:
Battlefield, get near the center of the stage. Pause the game, zoom in the camera somewhat close to yourself, and rotate it to where you can ALMOST see the back of the stage, aka, as far as you can go. To the left, not to the right. Take a picture of the missing texture on the back of the stage, a clear cut rectangle you can see the background in clearly, and then one from below the stage where the texture magically reappears.
I'm liking smash4 alot, I just wish it actually had combos(it has like brawl combos where u can only get people from like 0%- to 50+%) and faster ways to kill people. They live to really high percents and the blast zones feel huge now.
