Did anyone else kinda sorta like Subspace?
I really enjoyed the scenes of the characters broing it up.
It was cool, but Intense mode made me hate Rob because of all the fucking enemies based on him in the bomb factory
I really liked that they were able to convey a lot of shit going on without people even talking.
The gameplay could have been better, and there should have been more non-OC enemies, but it was worth it for the cutscenes.
I can't believe they're BOTH gone.
Oh lord, I forgot about the end of that.
fuck, I don't even know how that fit into the story AT ALL, but damn was it cool.
Who do you guys think were being carried in each vehicle?
Snake was probably Samus's co-pilet. I bet you they banged while they were dodging enemy fire.
Pokemon Trainer will always be my favorite character.
He was never good.
I was never good with him.
But I still think he was the coolest fucking addition smash bros has ever gotten.
I loved SSE, especially the cutscenes. Watching the various Nintendo characters interact in their various ways was super fun and epic.
> Mario and Link nearly throwing down
> Shiek and Fox nearly throwing down
> Meta-Knight and Lucario nearly throwing down
> Halberd kamikaze'ing against the Subspace Army and watching all the iconic Nintendo aircraft spring forth from the explosion
> Kirby's epic Dragoon kamikaze attack
> ROB's change of heart
Could you imagine if SSB4 had a SSE2? We could've been moving into cosmic-level, TTGL/Shin Getter territory. It's truly a sadness we'll never get a story mode like it.
these. The single player modes for both melee and brawl were incredibly awful. The cutscenes and situations are cool but trying to make a beat em up platformer out of the smash gameplay just didn't work.
It was fun to play through once and only once.
The story was retarded but some of the happenings and character interactions were entertaining.
I actually liked the gameplay, it was pretty much a Kirby game with Smash characters instead of copy abilities. But the cutscenes were absolutely amazing, its too bad we won't get anything like SSE in Smash 4, it was the best part of Brawl.
Cutscenes were the only good parts and even some of them sucked
>all that nodding and running
>all that retreating by running after nodding
>OC donut steels as majority of the enemies
>their designs were fucking stupid for the most part
>very few from Nintendo series
>had different physics from the main game
>recycled boss fights
>what little there was of the story made less sense because most of it was cut
>Master Hand being someone's bitch
>Great Maze being the most half-assed thing ever
>not enough Peach making everyone tea
Cutscenes were fun, but it was very much a "one-time through and then never again" because the levels were usually boring as shit. I would have traded all of it for one extra character, but appreciate them trying something new.
It was a neat concept but the execution was total ass. On higher difficulties that shit just felt broken. And don't even get me started on the Great Maze.
Those cutscenes made up for it though.
>That one where Mario, Lino, Yoshi, Kirby and Pit team up to save the fucking day
>That one where EVERYONE storms that giant battleship
Shit man I'm getting chills just thinking about them
People didn't like Subspace?
Dude I was a little preteen when this came out and I loved this game just for the story. After I finished the story for the second time I just went back to melee for multiplayer. Not a tourneyfag, but I just liked the way melee felt more.
SSB was a cool concept that wasn't executed very well.
The gameplay was pretty bland and that final level was pure bullshit. I also disliked the fact that 90% of the enemies were OC and not from the various character's series. It would have been much better with that kind of shit. Tabuu was a pretty fun boss fight though, and I liked the idea of bosses in general.
Too bad spoilerfags ruined it for everyone. I didn't think it needed to be taken out, but just improved. Seeing all those Nintendo characters together was amazing and it had some great moments. If they made a combination of Melee's adventure mode and SSE, it would be amazing. I'm still hoping for at least something like that in the Wii-U version to make up for no smash run.
The levels were boring, the new enemies were dumb, some characters got way more screen time than others, Sakurai had to explain the plot on the Dojo, and it has probably the worst final level in a video game.
Except, you know, fucking Mega Man and Little Mac.
ALL HE CAN DO IS PUNCH
Granted, that did calm down a bit after the reveal, but I remember a lot of people mad about it.
The closest to unanimous love. All I remember is the one guy who said he looked awful and soulless.
>tfw we will never get the White Bomber to compliment the Blue
>All I remember is the one guy who said he looked awful and soulless
And I remember someone saying Red looked like a faggot instead of the original art
We going to keep cherrypicking?
>a shot of a couple of characters sitting comfortably in Falcon's ship
>the next shot is some other characters squished into the Pikmin storage on olimars ship
Fuck that would've been funny
>Rot in hell furfag.
>Lucario will not be in brawl and you know it.
Eh. The fanservicey cutscenes were nice.
The game was a poorly-done Kirby. Whoever came up with the idea of using trophy stands should be shot in the dick because of Meta Ridley.
The cutscenes were fine, I guess.
I especially like the scene when Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong roll in. It was that cool little chase scene and they play remastering of the first song from DKC. My favorite part, at that. That got me so excited the first time I watched it.
The campaign itself? Garbage. Even the bosses were no fun.
Co-oped it with a roomate recently, shit wasn't nearly as bad as I recall. That doesn't excuse it from the bland enemies and poor level design, but it felt like playing a poor mans kirby game with a nice dose of fan service. Plus it gave you a chance to find additional music and beat the shit out of various bosses.
I think I'd be genuinely excited if they had another go at it for the WiiU version.
I played it with a friend at launch. It was a fucking chore and I've never played a game where I wanted the gameplay to be over so I could see the next cutscene.
Played it once, never thought I'd play it a second time, but I'm playing it through with my gf, mostly because she just finished mother 3 and we're riding out that Lucas high.
Cutscenes were great, levels were alright, camera only following one player is annoying considering the game is built on a camera that tracks a lot of shit at once.
Best part is ZSS/Pikachu fanart
The problem was that the story took itself way too seriously. If it had the same concept as the initial pitch (all the characters riding a bus to the Smash stadium with Snake in the back inside his box), it would've been way better.
The silly newcomer trailers (Rosalina, WFT and Little Mac) are the best because they don't take themselves seriously at all.
I liked it, lots of eye candy and it was really cool seeing them interact with each other. Some of the scenes were really cool too. Like Peach and Shiek sipping tea on an airship. I dont know why some people hated it so much, it was just a fun single player experience, something fighting games are doing more and more of.
I don't think getting rid of the adventure modes was a right answer.
The game has potential to be fun, but I think the levels were WAY too long and a lot of the enemies were more annoying than actually hard.
>Diddy Kong dragging Fox to help him
>He does the same thing to Falco when he shows up
Shit like that is what made it
Watching Nintendo characters interact was awesome. Playing SSE was miserable.
The cutscene where every character piles into the various spaceships and bumrush the enemy base is especially memorable.
>hurr I wasn't here for neither
>Captain falcon spots the subspace platform carrying DK
>smiles and looks at Olimar
>Olimar shakes his head and tries to back away
>Falcon grabs his ass and jumps off the cliff
>Olimar just panics the whole way down
I fucking loved every minute those two had together.
If SSE was just the Great Maze (or just a straight Great Cave Offense clone) with actual Nintendo locations and more enemies, it would've been way better.
I know it's going to be impossible, but I really hope that Smash U has a fighting game inspired Classic Mode that has intro cutscenes, rival fights and endings, because Smash really needs to take more advantage of it's crossover aspect.
Mainly because it just wasn't fun to play. Too long, worse gameplay than the regular game, took itself way too seriously/
I hope they just throw in some cool cutscenes kinda like the newcomer videos for every fighter.
Like if you get get so many KOs or clear classic under a certain criteria with Mario you get a Mario trailer.
Snake and Sonic were additions just as good as Mega Man and Pac Man.
>the Subspace Army in general
>the gameplay is slower than other modes for some reason
>levels are too long and boring
>It was me, Literally Ta-who?
Don't even get me started on this shit. How do you fuck this concept up after Great Cave Offensive and Amazing Mirror?
I don't think that was a problem at all. The only problem was the fact that the gameplay was sorta bland due to the lazy level design, linearity, poor enemy design, and lack of mechanics unique to the story mode. Bosses were pretty tight though.
The idea of the Smash characters riding a bus to the stadium sounds fun, but without anymore detail, I'm happy we got SSE.
So this is a complaint now? Video games are too long? The whole point was for it to be this big movie fan service piece. Unless you mean the gameplay made it too long, in which case i'd agree. As for taking itself seriously i dont even know how that's a criticism. Lots of it was being silly and just trying to be cool, not acting like an oscar winning drama.
At least Sakurai acknowledged one team.
>tfw everyone who had that reaction is now dissapointed as fuck
>Unless you mean the gameplay made it too long
I'm pretty sure he meant the gameplay since most of the cutscenes weren't even a minute long.
>character shows up
>WHAM [character name]
>oh shit, something's going on
>now beat up Primids for ten minutes
Yes, there is a thing as too long, specially when levels just dragged on and weren't fun to play )or look at).
And the story was definitely serious, or at least it was trying to thanks to having Nojima's stupid ass writing the scenario.
I loved the shit out of SE. Plataforming wasn't very good, but bosses were great and cutscenes were triple fucking A.
However, I do feel that Smash 4 trailers were better.
Having those short videos showcasing the new characters and the others interacting is really cool, more akin to Melee's opening.
And they were all revealed slowly to us. Directs, E3s, suprise streams... It was wonderful.
Here's hoping for a Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt intro videos on the full game.
My favourite is still the Rosalina one because it has the best character interactions out of all the videos, but the Little Mac, Robin and Shulk (synchronized Marth/Link attack was fucking badass) were also pretty good.
Also, since the PotD is going back to doing more silly pictures for a while, I hope we get more stuff like the little Peach storyline that was running for a while.
>they even brought it back a little bit in the megaman and charizard/greninja reveal
It's a generic desert. That's like saying the Mega Man trailer takes place where Mario and Link chased Bowser because there's a cliff.
I thought the story was like one of those crossover fan-fictions that everyone wrote when they were kids.
It was fun as shit though
But if it had to go to make room for motherfucking Smash Run, I can understand.
I cannot wait for the glorious Kirby Air Ride days to come back.
>Reggie and Iwata's battle
Every fucking time.
Post yfw this nigga of all people saved the Nintendo universe
Imagine how great it would have been if it had been in this game instead of Brawl.
>characters look like they do in their respective games
>fighting Master Hand, Crazy becoming the core instead of that crappy Taboo
>Lucina meeting Marth
>the Mario characters going to space
>Palutena's reveal in the game's style
>Jr. and Bowser in clown cars terrorizing the heroes
>Mega Man and Pac-Man interacting with Nintendo characters
>Duck Hunt Dog laugh track
>yfw this update
It felt rushed as fuack, specially knowing he was a late addition, but still wondering if that's true tough
Would I really enjoy it? Yes.
I don't throw a fit every time I see a character I don't like. In fact, I'd love to see him argue with Pit. Maybe even have Sonic make a joke about Shadow.
Kinda sucks that Kid Icarus Smash Taunts don't seem to be in the 3DS game
Sonic comparing DP to Shadow would be great at least.
I really wish there was a Smash Bros manga or comic series, since the only place I can get funny character interaction like that is in fan art
or fanfiction, and god knows that's a crap shoot to deal with regarding quality
i liked it a lot. Wish they would have opted for an episodic release of subspace with smash 4 rather than scrapping it entirely because "muh internet leaks"
i'm still mad that he used that as an excuse, rather than just saying they wanted to focus more on the core game.
He's made it clear that he doesn't like people spoiling his games (he even mentioned it in a Dojo update regarding online modes), which is why all Uprising promotional material used pre Hades stuff only.
No other series does this to /v/
No other series causes this much happening on /v/
Why is Smash Brothers the best game of all time?
>Mr.G&W is detrophy-fied
>Peach makes a scolding sound and wags her finger at him
>G&W looks sad
>Peach gives him her parosol
>G&W happily dances around
I still can't figure out wtf this cutscene was trying to convey. Was G&W sad that he wasn't 3D?
Remember that huge black hole that ate Sonic in the end of Sonic Colors? Turns out he ended up in Subspace, kicked Tabuu's ass, and then knocked out until he was saved by Wisps which transported him to his own universe.
The asspull explanation is that Game & Watch doesn't know the difference between wrong and right so he had no idea what he was doing when Tabuu extracted the shadowbugs from his body to use in his army
Peach was scolding him for being bad
>Who didn't like it?
People who haved played good Kirby games.
>not speaking Nintendese
You should see Sakurai's explanation of the story where he talks about all the scenes that got cut like Dedede and Meta Knight fighting on the Halberd before the Subspace Army attacks, informing Dedede of the RRoD, leading to him making the badges. It was a mess.
Agreed. First I played him wasn't fun at all, everything sucked.
Then I started getting good and I honestly can't remember the last time Smash Bros was this fun and satisfying.
This Dojo update pretty much confirmed what I thought about SSE at the time I played it. It was a god damn mess that barely made sense and was way too serious for it own good.
>Tabuu takes notice of the peculiar qualities of Mr. Game & Watch’s body mass. He uses these particularities to create a nearly infinite number of shadow bugs, which he then uses to create the Subspace Army.
Sakurai knows how to write DDD
>Up to mischievous things
>Think he's the bad guy
>Nope, he's the one man who knows whats going on, doing his damnedest to stop the ultimate evil.
>Saves the day by letting out the other heroes when they were needed most
>Only real sin is not bothering to explain how he's going to save everyone, and thats what sets Kirby off in every fucking game too.
>He is best known for writing several installments of Square Enix's Final Fantasy video game series—namely Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XV—and the Kingdom Hearts series
The actual FF7 was fine for what it was, and I can't really hate it. Most of FF8's problems come from the bad translation (still doesn't fix the whole orphanage thing though), and 10 was fantastic. After that though the guy can fuck off.
>played through it and appreciated the simple yet engaging plot
>mfw Sakurai posted that in-depth rundown on the story and I found out Subspace Emissary had the deepest lore
/vp/ didnt existed at that time, so all hat hype was from /vp/oreons
>none of the newcomers for smash 4 were met with that praise
>what is megaman
>what is little mac
>what is robin
I actually got Brawl BECAUSE of SSE, so I greatly enjoyed it (and I played through it twice).
The factory levels are the only ones I despised, the Great Labyrinth at the end wasn't as bad as people painted it but I'll admit it was sort of dull.
In fact, I think that I enjoyed SSE more than the multiplayer battles in Brawl.
Sakurai himself? He apparently wrote the entirety of Uprising, and that's one of the most entertaining Nintendo stories ever (though most of the quality comes from the localization since it had a ton of freedom regarding the translation and dialogue.
I can tell that if they're not making something similar for this entry, they're slacking big time. It will be fun for 2 days tops. Autism will keep it alive with "competitive" smash bros.
Subspace wasnt fun to play
but everything else about it was so awesome
the cut-scenes, the co-op, even the stickers
all great ideas, but smash gameplay stuffed into kirby levels just wasnt fun
I loved subspace emissary, mostly for the cutscenes, but I kinda wish fox and all the other characters that could talk, would. It's hard to make a good story out of cutscenes that have no text or anything, and Nintendo tried, but overall it ended up being awkward
The Brawl cutscenes are why I can never hate nintendo. Something about them doing this with all of their most well known IPs and smashing them together in a way that is a love letter to the fans always makes me happy. I am just sad that there wont be any of these GOAT cutscenes for smash 4.
I'm surprised I haven't seen more reaction images and gifs from the subspace cutscenes over the years.
Falcon was the best character in Subspace. Took out the Pikmin threat before they could cause some serious shit.
>Fat Dragon who steals a princess isn't eviler than Dude who tries to conquer the world and is so evil he has several reincarnations of him being a dickass
There's probably more, but I don't know too much about LoZ.
The creator has retired from everything. Mother 3's ending and open-ended bullshit everywhere just shows that he plain doesn't give a shit about the series anymore.
Let it go, anon.
I hated subspace and I hated the cutscenes.
The game took place in just generic dull fields, generic dull hallways or generic dull ruins. With lame OC enemies. And brawl's weird NO COLOUR ALLOWED bleach filter made it even worse.
I'd like to see a SSE2 but have the characters who speak in Nintendo games actually talk.
>Samus, what do we need to do?
>THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY
>Ara ara, I never expect the Hylians to be so hansdome
I loved it. The gameplay was fine, it wasn't great but it was far from 'poor'. It'd be nice if they had more variety i.e. Star Fox esc moments, Metroid styled levels, moments that made you playing as a certain character seem more like you're actually playing that character.
>Wow King Dedede, good job with the brooches!
>AHEHEHEHE BROOCHES? I THOUGHT I WAS COOKIN UP A LIL OL TIME BOMB TO DO IN THAT BLASTED KIRBY!
*gay snail walks in*
>Ya really got a bang for your buck, sire!
That would probably be way too much work, more things like Melee's Adventure Mode where you had to run through an F-Zero track or do a Metroid escape sequence would've been nice.
I though it was fine, it just should've been less floaty and have health bars rather than ring outs. It became frustrating bouncing all over the screen.
Bosses were great, too.
Yeah but it would be nice, imagine just quick fun F-Zero, Star Fox, Metroid sections. A section where you race through a landscape in 3D which then switches to typical 2D Smash gameplay for a fight etc, nice seamless little moments.
>"THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE G-DIFFUSER!"
>*DK suddenly grows horrifying teeth*
What was the deal with that show? In one moment DK was totally toothless and in the next moment it grew fangs then in the next episode he had those fangs from the beginning to the end.
Here's one I found in my brawl folder
The idea, music, and cutscenes were great, but Brawl's physics kinda made the actual progression feel like shit. If it was in a non smash game as a sidescroller, then holy shit would it be 10/10, but its in brawl of all games, in a game where gameplay is 90% of the games merit.
Subspace is only good for the characters interaction with each other, and the CG trailers kind of do the same (though obviously not as much).
>tfw still no true HD cutscenes on youtube or anyplace
>The scuffle between King Dedede and Meta Knight
Shit, I just realized that there was no fucking interaction between those two characters throughout that whole fucking thing. What a waste, man.
Subspace Emissary was fucking great. Fuck anyone who says otherwise.
>"Like zoinks Duck Hunt...hold my ocarina while we look for Ridley inside this bush"
>"What do you mean we're standing on him?"
>You now realize that Kirby and Meta knight were never on-screen together
>You now realize Mario and Luigi never interacted
>You now realize G&W didn't have a splash screen, but Master Hand did
>You now realize that Red wasn't on-screen with the other Pokemon characters because he would just catch them
>You now realize that Lucas never found Ness
It's probably this: >>263947648
I think it'd be funny if he just thought he was an ass I guess.
>you'll never get this again
they'd better have something like this for some stage
Like Fox was for Melee
Snake was for Brawl
What's for Sm4sh?
If they had made a new one, Palutena and the two Pits would end up saving everyone and being the heroes.
You didn't have to pay that much attention to SSE in Brawl to notice that Kirby, MetaKnight and Dedede were pulling all of the strings on the hero side while everyone else were embellished foot soldiers.
Actually there's a couple possibilities
It could be Doc Louis chiming in for Little Mac or Viridi/Hades talking shit about characters with Pit/Palutena/Pitoo
Viridi talks in Palutena's trailer so that might end up being the new codec
Fuck, I wanted these for the newcomers. God dammit Snake, you didn't need to go just yet.
>No scene where Villager is going around digging up fossils and uncovers some treasure, only to be overrun by Pikmin
>No scene where Donkey Kong lands onto a stage where Little Mac is waiting for someone to fight
>No scene where Pacman is going around eating pellets and see Kirby and tries to eat him thinking he's a Power Pellet
Maybe in the Wii U version. I imagine all that dialogue would take up a good amount of space.
I just thought of another possibility
Reyn giving his two cents on each character with Shulk
>that fucking Luigi one
I'm desperately hoping it's Pit talking to Viridi, Medusa, Magnus and Hades.
>Pit asking Hades about his opponent
>their conversation starts out with the "Hades!" "Pit!" exchange
I want to see Snake comforting Lucas now.
These were the fucking best.
>Those 2 Samus ones
Fucking pure gold
That's probably why Sakurai removed SSE but instead is giving us these character trailers. Took the best part, cut the rest.
Now let's just hope that he at least kept in the boss battles, since those were also pretty cool.
Speaking of Master Hand I think he created Master Core as a final failsafe in case another mega splurg like Tabuu tries controlling and reking him again.
Master Core needs work.
Nah. He said there'd still be a story mode like thing. I'm hopeful that it will include kickass boss battles.
Honestly, that (probably) fake leak had the best idea.
Tower of Smash - 100 floors/challenges, boss fight every 10 floors.
Perfect chance for Sakurai to wank KI with a Hades fight.
Wait a second. MGS just takes place on Earth right? Wouldn't that mean that video games exist in MGS? Mei Ling did say that Pokemon are popular all over the world.
>Snake lusting after Samus
>Snake knowing Lucas' feels
THIS IS WHY I WANTED SNAKE BACK
DON'T TELL ME YOU DON'T WANT DAVID HAYTER AND PAUL EIDING COMMENTING ON HOW GOOFY THE FUCKING DUCK HUNT DOG IS
>that WFT trailer
I still remember the anal pain that caused
>That Rosalina trailer
And I still remember the anal pain that trailer caused on me. FUCK YOU I WANT MY AIR RIDE TRAILER
>Its the quiet ones you gotta watch out
holy fuck sakurai
I loved Subspace Emissary, especially since I play singleplayer on games most of the time. I liked the story, gameplay, etc. I like sidescrollers with emphasis on combat. Twas fun for me. I especially liked how they could tell a story without ever having characters talk.
How about we have a good old fashioned Brawl-era nostalgia thread?
>mfw Link kicked Pit's ass
I like Pit but seeing Link say fuck the items and go ham was fucking cool.
That trailer was fucking cool in hindsight.
That Halo happening was because the tagline was one of the most reposted threads on /v/ in 2012/2013.
>an ancient evil awakens
Y'know what I kinda hope for here? I know some people will hate it but...
I want a similar treatment for either Palutena or Pit on a Kid Icarus stage. Only it'd be shit like Viridi, Phosphora or Hades commentating on the combatants.
I know it's more Sakurai wanking, but it would still be pretty fun and somewhat fill the hole Snake left.
Shit's so fucking british my soda turned into tea
Holy hell I had no idea until just now. That sucks, but the fact I didn't even notice the difference says to me she's doing a good job.
Now that I rewatch the trailer, she really sounds the same to me, except a bit more soft-spoken, and only during the banter with Pit, so I'm okay with it.
>thinking snake will come back after kojima shat on nintendos face after nintendo accepted his request to put snake in brawl after kojima puts it on every gaming platform but wii u
Nintendo got snake eater 3ds.
If anything, he was more likely to not be in brawl than he was for smash 4, considering the last game he had on a nintendo console was twin snakes.
Nintendo (or maybe just Sakurai?) seems pretty good about staying faithful to VAs, for what few they need. I'm impressed and excited by the fact that not only Shulk, but also Riki, Dunban, and Metal Face have their original voice actors 3 years after their performance.
Could it be the secret to what's keeping Mozart alive?
Why did they throw that little thing at the end, anyway? After the Dark Pit cameo at the very end of Palutena's trail and him being playable, what do you think the end of Shulk's trailer hinted towards?
Stage boss or maybe assist trophy.
Whatever his role, it seems like he's Wii U only since I haven't heard of him showing up in the 3DS game.
I liked the idea of the mode, and the cutscenes, but the Smash style of gameplay didn't work very well with the platformer style. I kind of wish they broke the rules a bit and made you have Stamina instead of keeping the percentage system.
>Nes and Lucas were the closest thing we are ever going to get to a new Earthbound game
Shigesato Itoi said in a tweet (I think) that he considered Animal Crossing a spiritual sessor to Earthbound. He worked on a game that became Animal Crossing too. Dont' quote me on that though. Pokemon Red /Blue feels like Mother 1 to me sort of.
