>three- count them- THREE kid icarus characters in smash >a series with only three fucking games that only had a new game 2 years ago after not having one for over 2 decades >more than donkey kong >more than metroid >more than star fox
>>267439328 It sounds like you hate anything from japan for no reason. They are popular characters from a popular series in japan and are featured in a japanese game (smash). Saying "they are too japanese" is moot. Regardless, fire emblem character designs don't really feature anything inherently japanese for the most part so I don't really understand what you're talking about. The same goes for Shulk. All the characters, from what I can tell, are relaxed and prideful, so I don't understand where you get "edgy" from. Also anime isn't an art style.
>Char >Greninja >poor attempt at replacing Pokemon Trainer
Also, your analogy is shit. you haven't provided a reason why it isn't a good thing. Brawl barely had Swordfighters from Zelda and Fire Emblem. and now it was one more from Xeno series to represent 3 notable titles.
You're whining about what now? the "anime" style despite the fact that Samus herself looks like one? and Palutena, and Shiek? What are you trying to say?
>>267440376 It's not that I hate everything from Japan. I like the Mario and Legend of Zelda series. I also love Pokemon, to the point where I've become the cunt who sucks the fun out of the game and looks at numbers instead.
It's just that they all have the same spiky or technicolor hairstyles and the whole "oooooh noble and edgy protagonist" thing to them.
I guess it's something that you need to be a biased dickhead to understand. But I do appreciate you being objective instead of throwing swears at me.
Mario/Luigi/Bowser/Peach - Super Mario Bros. OVA Marth - Fire Emblem OVA Villager - Dobutsu no Mori Kirby/Dedede/Meta Knight - Right Back At Ya Sonic - Sonic OVA/Sonic X Captain Falcon - F-Zero: GP Legend Pit/Palutena - Uprising shorts Pokemon - should be obvious
>>267440957 >oooooh noble and edgy protagonist" what you could complain about FE characters being noble, but none of them are remotely edgy. I don't know where you could get that, even if you were just judging them by design.
>>267441257 >half of them look exactly the same besides Trapeze (which isn't used much) and Panty and Stocking they're all the same. The other ones may look different, but are merely the same style done better or by a different artist. The slight changes that come from a different artist drawing the same picture doesn't make it an entirely new style. Maybe if you didn't go so extreme with it and put dozens that were the same it would be more believable.
>>267442324 >implying that didn't just make things scarier Of course the hacksaw would kill you who knows what's in the shadow realm. As a kid I was scared as fuck of the shadow realm just because of the mystery of it.
>>267441890 As far as I can see, they never do anything that isn't serious.
Smash 4 is my first Smash game and I haven't played Fire Emblem, so they're just edgy as far as I know. I'm aware that I'm just being an uneducated fuck, but it's not like a demographic of people like me doesn't exist or think the same thing.
I also understand Charizard, Bowser, Meta Knight, ect. are also edgy in their own regards, but at least they have the whole "bright colors and simple designs to entertain 8 year olds" art style goin for them. The most colorful thing about the subject matter is their goofy technicolor animu hair.
>>267440957 >I like the mario and legend of zelda series Why is link any different than a fire emblem character? They are pretty similar design wise. >It's just that they all have the same spiky or technicolor hairstyles I'll give you that, but really what else can you do here. Marth and Lucina are meant to look alike. Ike does have a pretty generic style, and shulk just looks like a young man. >"oooooh noble and edgy protagonist" thing to them. Well typically the heroes of rpgs fight for a noble cause. Since fire emblem is a strat rpg set in a castle age type setting, there are going to be tons of characters fighting for this common goal. I don't really know about shulk though. >edgy still don't understand what you mean
I don't really understand why it's such a big deal though. The characters aren't overdone, shit tier "anime" designs. They don't have neon hair, huge eyes, or ridiculous outfits.
>>267442752 for the most part they all look the same. Some characters looking different than others doesn't make them different styles, that's how it's supposed to be. Every character easily recognizable even to new viewers.
I can't name them all, I don't watch them. But just zooming in the first two I read are Ghost Hound and Nichijou and they are exactly the same style. The image went overboard with it was my main point. They definitely don't do as many styles as western cartoons.
>>267443893 I understand where you're coming from here. It's just that:
>Charizard is a big, vicious dragon that resides in the same world as cutesy-wootsy stuff like most other pokemon.
>Boswer is usually a more cartoony and silly villain in the mainline Mario games. In the Mario RPGs, he is also rather silly, but also has an interesting personality. I know that they're working with very limited stuff here, but these qualities are simply not shown by Sm4sh's Bowser.
>>267442805 Not him, but Link looks like an elf. I would say he's usually a noticeable different size than a human, with features like pointy ears that would make him different.
Plus his costume is more simplistic which I would assume to most people, makes it more recognizable than what looks like a clutter of giant belts and jackets, like Robin would at first site, for example.
Fire Emblem characters aren't as influential as Link so they'd obviously need to be more unique. Their games are obviously less popular.
>>267443417 >That's exactly what it is: typical. It just isn't interesting. Every other RPG does it too. Every other everything does it too. Fighting for a noble cause is really broad. Pretty much any hero will either fight for something personal, prideful or noble. Mario fights for a noble cause. Link fights for a noble cause. Hell even sonic does. It's not like it's limited to RPGs or japanese games even. Why specifically are these characters picked out for it? And on a more specific level, the character's motive are based around the plot and usually aren't just "I want to be good!". But unless you play the games you won't really know why. Again I feel like you should give fire emblem a break because of the genre. It's a strat RPG where you control a bunch of different similar minded characters to win a fight. Are there too many characters from the same series? Maybe, but I can see why it's like that. Ike is like a more heavy marth with some modified moves. Lucina I'm pretty sure is a lighter marth, which is also put in to add variety for female players if they want to play a girl character (although it will probably be the other way around since most waifufags will play lucina and fangirls will play marth). AFAIK Robin is completely different though. They are willing to add these characters too since it's popular in japan and is certainly rising in the US now.
>>267444342 >I would say he's usually a noticeable different size than a human I disagree. As far as I can see the only real difference is the ears. But I don't really mean his race or stature persay. I more mean his handsome, prince-like, otome style in addition to his overall light tunic. Link does have a more simple outfit than most FE characters. But comparing him to say, marth. They aren't really that different design wise.
>>267446265 I would say it being more simplistic is the most important part. Being needlessly complicated makes costumes less recognizable. Like I said, Robin's costume just seems very cluttered seeing it for the first time. Plus, if they are similar to link, that's a problem. We have Link and he definitely belongs in Smash Bros over them.
>>267445635 >I guess it's just that the characters seem a bit out of place in Smash to me. Understandable, smash is mostly full of cartoonish characters that don't really give off a Japanese specific vibe. Being more realistically proportioned than most of the characters and speaking japanese could really make them stand out. Nintendo isn't really well known for these kinds of characters so it might be hard to think of them as nintendo. But regardless they are very popular and first party so it's not suprising they get these slots. To be honest the only fire emblem game I ever played was the demo for awakening, but my original post >>267439036 shows why I really am arguing this. I don't really like it when things are tagged "anime" when they aren't really associated with anime. (see: the anime tag on steam). Instead of people just saying "I don't like things that look like this so they are bad", I'd rather hear real reasons.
>Given where I am, I assumed that this thread would be flooded with biased cunts like myself There is far too few objective arguments on /v/ these days. I really don't know how long I can take posting here. Almost every thread is filled with baiting, trolling, and subjective/broken arguments. I don't mind a few silly threads but it makes up almost the entirety of /v/ now.
