these niggas never played the Jugdraal games? incest, regicide, 20 years long with three different protagonists, more incest, the dirtiest political wheeling and dealing in any FE (makes the Begnion senators seem well-intentioned and misunderstood by comparison), other incest, main characters / protagonists dying left and right, additional cousincest, actual wars instead of 'oh no! bandits are attacking!' or 'oh no! zombies!' (fucking SS and Awakening), optional incest between player character and his sister
>>267484156 she got betrayed by her senators and kept as a prisoner in her room until she could escape. Then she went to Crimea where the begnion army was fighting to convince them the senators were evil. damn I wanna replay RD
>remaking a game as dark, edgy and serious as the Jugdraal chronology after Awakening set the bar as 'wacky, carefree romance and anime adventures : Power of Friendship Edition'
The new fanbase of Awakeningfags would be devastated.
The darkest moment in Awakening was when Lucina was fighting Grima in the alternate future, and she got a get-out-of-dragon-free card from Naga.
Compare that to the midpoint of FE4, where SPOILER ALERT, the main character and all of his comrades are burnes alive by his best friend, who just revealed to him that he's kidnapped his wife and had been fucking her and impregnated her
>>267485576 Maybe only the ESRB/CERO/PEGI guys think this way, if they know there is suicide in a game they classify it as "dark" or "adult scenes" or whatever, even if it's shown as heroic or.. Just plain stupid instead of sad and dark.
>Emmeryn >nobly sacrifices herself for her countrymen and peace >falls 300 feet and is most likely unconscious before she feels any pain >the last thing she ever saw was her brother running out to her and trying to save her >isn't actually dead! hooray!
Sigurd >outlives his usefulness to a conspiracy that has been manipulating his movements for years, and is unceremoniously killed to usher in the reign of an evil cult of a dark god >burns to death in the fire of the most powerful magic >the last thing he sees is his brainwashed, NTR'd wife cuddling up with the man who is murdering him
How can you even compare the two? Emmeryn's 'death' was Disney-tier
I can't play an old archaic game like that just for the story. But it sounds like a nicely set up villain. Most villains in FE games aren't very hatable. Nergal was just like an old power-crazed magician, though he was a cunt he wasn't very detestable. The big satan guy who impersonated Lyon in Stones I barely remember. Ashnard was just retarded. And Ashera was well, a godess.
>>267488265 It's possible he isn't a direct descendant of Ike Marth is said to be Anri's descendant but Anri died with no children of his own, Marth actually descends from Anri's brother, Marcelus or something. It's possible Priam descends from Mist. >b-but Ragnell! It's highly unlikely that Ike took Ragnell with him when he left Tellius, since it was Begnion's royal treasure. In fact I'm almost sure Ragnell stayed in Tellius... just like Mist and her children.
>>267488003 It is cheap fanservice, but until we get some kind of confirmation that it isn't canon, the existence of character and interaction and detailed epilogues is enough evidence to believe they're canon.
Keep in mind we've had ridiculous character survivals before, although I'm pretty sure they said something about the Begnion senators saving him from execution.
>>267488797 Oliver isn't so stupid because you never actually see him die, you know, no corpse no death. but EVERYONE saw Emmeryn die, it's fucking retarded to backtrack on it, which is why I refuse to acknowledge the spotpass characters as canon
>free content that is included with the game >no mention of outrealms or alternate universe whatsoever >you can marry Emmeryn and have a child with her >this child can then get married to other characters
I guess Morgan is non-canon in that case then, dumbass?
>>267489320 not the other guy but 7 has really boring everything only good thing about it is Hector and the set up for 6, which fucking blows it out of the water as far as chaacters , plot, and politics go
>>267489591 To be fair, I can understand them. By the time Jon gets shanked he's the only tolerable character left in the entire series apart from Victarion. Every single non-Jon chapter is just a boring slog through shit and more shit.
>>267489417 Ashnard: Galdr singer, did you come here today so that I might take ownership of you? Reyson: I have something to ask you. Were you the one who stole the medallion and my sister, Lillia, from Serenes Forest? Ashnard: You know that already, do you not? Why would you come all this way to ask something you already know? Do you wish me to deny it? Reyson: If the dark god is awakened, the world will once again be flooded. And this time, even our continent will fall. You will not survive that event... Do you truly desire such an end? Ashnard: I do. Oh, how I do... It's true. The world may be destroyed by the coming of the dark god. Then again, it may not. I question the way in which our society is designed. No matter what strength a person has, it is the station he is born into that controls his destiny. And you cannot control where you will be born. Do you believe that a person of low birth should simply endure the curse of his station? I think not. If you are stronger than those around you, you should benefit from your strength. This is why I will use my strength to remake this world. Class and rank will not matter. Human and sub-human will not matter. The strong will possess everything. The weak will submit to their will. Is this not the meaning of peace? Reyson: Are you saying that the lives of those without strength have no value? Ashnard: That is the natural order. The only way for the weak to survive is to cling to the strong. Our discussion is over. Tell me, frail little bird who cannot fight; which do you choose? Submission? Or death? Reyson: ...Life proffered to me by your hand is something I would never accept! Ashnard: Very well... Then I will give you the alternative! You will be a weight around my neck no more!
>>267489852 >isn't charismatic cool opinion faggot >nor a good leader He was 17 when he tag-teamed a fucking dragon with his bro Eliwood, leading specific people of Ostian loyalty and also leading them in Hector mode which is harder than the base game. You're full of shit and a good leader of my dick in your fucking ass.
>>267488747 It's not really as "old and archaic" as you think. The only difference from recent games is the maps having SNES-graphics.
>Combat scenes are better than GBA because they're dynamic, as opposed to the same animation >Skills, as opposed to... Lethality in the GBA games >Generation system like Awakening >Manfroy + Julius are pretty much your average FE villain, Lopt Sect is pretty boring
The only downside is no True Hit, which is admittedly annoying. It's no so bad in Genealogy because your units can actually take some punishment because inflated HP. But in Thracia, forget about it. >Miss two 99% attacks >Enemy hits around 20%
>>267489617 >>267489506 my fucking niggers I was 13 when I first played 7, and I immediately noticed how bad the writing was and how much of a tryhard "guys I'm rude and strong and take no shit from no one hurr durr" kind of character Hector (the argument 90% of people who defend 7 use) was. How anyone liked it plot/character wise is beyond me, unless they played it when they were fucking 10. Gameplay wise, do I need to say anything? It's easy as shit and the most boring GBA FE.
>>267490123 You know, this whole spiel about strong and weak reminded me.
The game is set up around the Laguz being discriminated against, but can you blame Beorc for it? Most likely, the situation was reversed long ago, since Laguz are born with power, while Beorc have to obtain it through invention and perserverance. In fact, Laguz are still for the most part all about might makes right(Lethe summarizes most laguz as being dick measuring niggers at some point), so is it unreasonable that they would be feared?
>>267491216 HHM is the only thing nice about it, yes. But 8 has an overall better game feel with the improved GUI, font and graphics, branched promotions and story mode (plus a story written by actual writers), post game dungeons and Hard mode unlocked right away. To unlock HHM you needed to finish the game.. Twice? OF course everyone just uses a save, but it's just easier to have a funnier time with 8 than 7.
>>267491130 Most of 7's writing is meh, but Nergal is a pretty well written character if you look at everything >Aenir - taken away, so he goes off in search of her >Ninian + Nils - his half dragon children that he wants to protect >Brammimond and Theodore - explain how Dark Magic warps you around your greatest desire
He wants to open the Dragon Gate to see Aenir again, but after Dark Magic warps him, he only knows he wants to cross the Dragon Gate, and assumes it's just for power. His death quote, if you do every map in HM changes to him realizing this.
>>267491668 What >>267491879 said. The backstory improves him a bit, but until that hidden as fuck scene (and even after) Nergal and the BF are possibly the worst written villains in any game I've played >plot magic powers, unlimited teleporting, strong as fuck tomes, basically a demi-god >he never finishes off the party, not even because they get saved by a shitty deus ex machina, he just leaves for the most inane bullshit >Group of incompetent assassins that are more cannon fodder than else >henchmen are ridiculously inept and dumb >his objective that lasted for the entire game, catching the two mcGuffins to open magic portal, thrown to shit in the last map because he goes LOL SHONEN ANIME PAWA UPPO and opens it anyway Jesus Christ.
>>267492070 No, I'm actually serious Micaiah had to do awful stuff, but that's war, Ike killed people too. She was just trying to defend her people
Micaiah: I… I want to save them all. The world is a better place with people like them in it. Sothe: I know how you feel, Micaiah. That’s why we started all this. We’ve always been fighting for them. But this war we’re in… It’s not just. We’re fighting on the wrong side. Micaiah: I know. I don’t want to see anyone die. It’s ironic… I’m killing with no malice, because I don’t want anyone to be killed. I… What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to stand back and let all of Daein perish? Is that the “just” thing to do? Sothe: … Micaiah: If that’s what it takes to be just, then I want nothing to do with justice. I’d rather be hated and feared like Mad King Ashnard. I’d rather the dark god take my soul. I’m going to save my people, Sothe. If the rest of the world paints me as a beast to be reviled and hated, so be it.
When this series will stop be boring? I mean in each game after a few maps you have an OP unit which soloing the whole map. No sense of depth or tactics. Each map in everygame goes like this >send an op unit ahead >every enemy unit will proceed to attack op unit regardless of their chances to survive the duel. >move further Tfw no tactics: ogre remake or continue of tearring sagas.
>>267492597 Every single character had to kill people. Micaiah is nothing special, the plot and writers force her to be a special character simply because the plot demands it. She's a poorly written mary-sue, who people only recently started liking because waifu faggots started invading Fire Emblem threads.
>>267488747 Whilst you end up hating Arvis and Trabant at the end of gen1, you do end up seeing their motives and who was manipulating them in gen 2 and FE5, which makes them a whole lot more sympathetic. My only gripe is that what happened to a lot of characters isn't really explained in the games (like what Levin does in between)
>>267495560 Awakening has poorly designed maps, poorly designed units, and even worse AI. The GC and Wii Fire Emblem games actually have the AI use some semblance of tactics, units will trade Vulnearies, try to block you, use the weapon triangle and actually act with some sort of intelligence.
>>267497007 What the fuck are you going on about? The Vs Reyson thing adds nothing important to the game aside from plot. Also, you are posting a level where the AI is SPECIFICALLY TOLD to attack and kill targets, of course if you chokepoint them they're going to keep throwing themselves at you, it's what they're programmed to do. I forget if Awakening even has a 'defend this guy' mission, I haven't played it in a few months.
>Decide to try some emulating to get myself more familiar with Smash Bros. franchises > Already downloaded a GBA emulator for trying out Mother 3, so fuck it Fire Emblem GBA > Have to reset the level whenever one of my units does because I'm a perfectionist and can't stand permadeath > Only up to the chapter introducing clerics and mages (who might as well be made of glass)
>>267496314 I think the AI in awakening is more effective at making you mad because they actually gang on one unit, that coupled with the open areas makes it very annoying Lucina is strong enough to take on any wyvern rider, but not enough to take on 5 of them in a row
>>267496204 >My only gripe is that what happened to a lot of characters isn't really explained in the games (like what Levin does in between)
Levin died, dude. The "Levin" that accompanies Celice is relvealed to be Holsety, the god of wind. That's why he seems to be so cold towards his children in the second gen. I believe it happens in the ending, there's a translated version on YouTube if you haven't seen it:
Apparently if you beat the game many times, there's an extended intro that shows the circumstances of Levin's death. He survived the Belhalla massacre and tried to take on Manfloy by himself, but Manfloy kills him with Jörmungandr. Then Holsety revives him and inhabits his body:
>>267501128 I think they should keep some form of it but with penalties. I feel it was too overpowered and pretty much relied on it most of the time. Maybe bring back the Rescue mechanic and merge it with pair up.
>>267501219 >awakening prequel >same world map but you visit locations to purify them >final score based on how much scum you genocided >best ending has Awakening never happen because all Grimleal are dead
Did anyone else think that the ending to Future Past was a better ending than the actual main story ending?
Why didn't they have an extra 10 chapters where the whole crew goes back to Lucina's timeline to clean up or even have the main story Grima retreat back to Lucina's timeline and they have to chase him.
yeah I have played it actually, although I will admit that I overstated Sigurd's relationship with Alvis.
they definitely were friendly, though. Alvis congratulates and welcomes Sigurd to Barhara before BBQ'ing him, and knights Sigurd at the beginning of the story.
As for your claim that FE4 is 'played in a light-hearted way', I've got no idea what you could possibly mean by that. I mean it's not DESPAIR DESPAIR DESPAIR LIFE IS POINTLESS, but basically nothing good happens to Sigurd from the point he meets Deirdre. It's a very dark and tragic tale
>>267502717 >Valm arc >shit u wot m8 it's the only good arc in the game interesting wars, actual strategies, a conqueror, backstabbing, black-mailing, rebellions, invasions, etc the whole game should have been about it
>>267504573 Things only were tragic in Doors to Destiny, understandably so since well the first gen dies, but other than that, everything is fun and games as soon as Celice takes the lead. Child Hunts are happens but nearly every instance involves you preventing them from happening.
>>267498547 Levin's not actually dead. When Manfloy "killed" him, he was saved by the power of his brand (which disappeared) and left him with amnesia. Holsety's tome is special, however, in that it gradually overwrites the user's personality to match that of Holsety, the only dragon who is strongly compassionate toward humanity (Naga is more neutral, though often sympathetic.) With parts of his memory gone, Levin's persona had become more Holsety than Levin, which is why Celice refers to him as Holsety in the ending.
The same thing happened to Briggid -- she survived, but was grievously wounded and only saved by sacrificing her Brand, and showed up as Eyvel in the sequel.
>>267505215 Why is Ephraim so alpha? >fucks all the princesses >even his sister because it's all or nothing >successful insurgent that even steals a castle with only three guys >doesn't even want to be king, just wants to kick ass and take names >uses a lance because a sword isn't big enough to be his metaphorical penis
>>267505957 Actually Levin IS dead, the one going around with you is not Levin, but the spirit of Holsety (the dragon) who quite literally possessed him when he died. At the end he disappears. Check the interviews with the developers in Serene's forest, shit like this is explained better.
Adean, Titlyu, Sylvia, Briggid, Lachesis and Ayra all survived. Adean stayed behind in Issac and raised everyone, Titlyu was taken by her family and lived a shitty life, Sylvia abandoned her children in an orphanaged and continued being a PG13 prostitute, Briggid became a terrible swordsman, Lachesis got lost in the desert and died, and Ayra disappeared
If they remake a FE they're going to have to find a way to put in an avatar. I don't see the player having his own character going away any time soon. And honestly it wouldn't be bad if you were just a unit and not some little lordling. Just another soldier that got noticed. >not wanting to play as NRFS
>>267506656 Levin is not actually dead. He has become more Forseti than Levin, and acts with Forseti's agendas in mind. He just can't return to Silesia and take the throne on account of the fact that he's suffering from amnesia and his holy blood mark is gone. Forseti cannot directly intervene in Jugdral's matters and did what he could to help by influencing Levin's actions through the imprint he left on his tome.
>>267508134 I'd be able to like that. If an avatar was shoehorned into a remake I think it would work well if they would have a smaller role than Chris though. To be fair, he was really REALLY strong.
>>267508432 I think it'd work if they didn't compromise themselves. As in, they don't pander too hard to the waifu fags and the MU is just a unit with a few lines and interactions but never the main focus. Maybe a side story like 12 had for Katarina and Chris.
It seriously does not seem like a system that would go away. Sorry, Anon
>>267507898 Any FE game from now on is going to HAVE to have a full support and marriage system, including self inserts and unit pairings. The children and eugenics aspect may be pushed to the side, but I can't see any FE game being made without the waifu factor anymore I think the waifu factor was the major component to FE:A's success despite it having a weaker story and weaker mechanics in gameplay compared to other FE games
>>267506656 >>267508341 Also someone in 5 mentions a shrine with human looking statues, suggesting others survived but were turned into stone. Since this is now trivia time, Kaga originally planned a 3rd generation which would have been different according to the pairings, and when possible would have featured the children reuniting with their parent
>>267504998 I can try, passed a lot of time though >one dimensional villains >retarded MU strategies >everyone sucking MU's dick for having SUCH GREAT TACTICS (worse in the last arc) >new villains appear, show once, then die >the game hypes shit like the tribes getting together to help you, no now they fight you, no they now like you again without fucking showing a thing, it's all telling >why the fuck is the swordmaster girl so gutted in supports >what do you say conspicuous looking man in dark robes and a hissing s who looks remarkably similar to that assassin who tried to kill us one year ago? You wanna rule the land we just set free? Well why the hell not
>>267502393 I don't know. I prefer endings where everything works out, so the main ending works better for me.
That, and FP is just an alt timeline with alternate versions of characters I already have. Their whole struggle feels empty too since Chrom's group had to do everything, else the kids would've all died.
>>267510086 another anon keep a broken axe, then in a chapter with a ballista use the broken axe on it until you level up, way safer and quicker than the arena. Best unit guide here http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=14651
>>267494314 4,5,6,7,8,9 all had great plots for a jrpg, they weren't exceptional like let us cling together or FFT but they were interesting enough to keep you going and add replay value though supports.
the problem isn't that fire emblem stories used to be amazing, it's that the ones that aren't good ( 1,3/11/12,10,13) are total dogshit that are hard to even get though.
gaiden's story was actually pretty decent probably because they kept it to a minimum.
>>267510494 >one dimensional villains I don't care at all. Walhart and Gangrel were some of the best FE Villains ever. >retarded MU strategies I don't understad >everyone sucking MU's dick for having SUCH GREAT TACTICS (worse in the last arc) You're dumb >new villains appear, show once, then die Not even true. >the game hypes shit like the tribes getting together to help you, no now they fight you, no they now like you again without fucking showing a thing, it's all telling Are you retarded? >why the fuck is the swordmaster girl so gutted in supports Because she's boring. What the fuck sort of complaint is this? >what do you say conspicuous looking man in dark robes and a hissing s who looks remarkably similar to that assassin who tried to kill us one year ago? You wanna rule the land we just set free? Well why the hell not So you'd discriminate against people based on them looking "evil" as a political choice?
the only thing bad about it is a few supports where the relationship between characters is sometimes not plausible, I mean renault is the guy who killed lucius parents and convinced wallace to become a knight? What are the chances of that? they weren't even born in the same country.
>>267513823 I think Walhart is probably one of my favorite villains in any medium, he just sticks to his guns, has no doubts, and knows he is in the right the entire time. Also he would have stopped Grima's resurrection if Chrom and Robin would have let him conquer shit.
>>267514035 marche only generates discussion because of how dumb the writing is, he's clearly in the wrong the simple message of" don't run away from your problems/ escapism isn't healthy" is done abysmally.
>>267514236 I liked the whole thing gangrel had going on. He showed that sometimes you have to make the hard decisions to rule a country. Your citizens are angery as fuck against Ysisisss, and walharts conquering everything out there. Even if you gotta sacrifice you own and make your people hate you, its the only way to secure your country's power.
Then he realized that he fucked up, maybe not with his goal, but that he just wasn't strong enough and his people were slaughtered and he feels this crazy regret
>>267515754 > ashnard makes army composed of better fighters regardless of social status > without their talent daien would have not won the war against benigio's superior numbers in radiant dawn. > silver haired maiden dead > ashera destroys the world
If I want to get into FE, which games should I play and which ones should I like? I already know that the GBA games, 11, and 13 are all objectively bad, and won't bother playing the copy of 13 I got a while back.
>>267517447 >>267518304 >>267517769 Holy shit, you fucking faggot. None of the games are "objectively bad" except Shadow Dragon. If you seriously think hearing opinion on fucking /v/ counts as proof, you need to kill yourself
>>267517561 Shadow Dragon was my first Fire Emblem, I played it like dogshit levelling Jagen, BOTH the ballistas and missing half of the recruitment, only to reach the final stage and hit the brick wall that every Fire Emblem final boss is. "Fuck this shit", I said. And Actually decided that it was time to git gud, restarted and di thing almost properly, considering it was without any guide, finished it and fell in love with the series. Awakening is the bottom of the barrel of the series And my favourite one is Radiant Dawn because I like Ike, Soldiers and Siege chapters gave me a massive hard-on. I do realize I went full-blog, sorry.
>>267519498 Actually Awakening was the only one I played more than once. But I was trying my best to like it (of course, I failed). I plan on playing FE4 again later using only the substitute kids and playing FE7 Hector Mode.
>>267519273 Shadow Dragon is good for ironman runs, characters are bland enough to sacrifice but still have enough personality to get attached to, so you will feel bad when you sacrifice them there are also load of playable characters so you won't get stuck I still remember Abel and Cain leading the charge on the siege of Michalis' castle, they got rid of the enemies on the way there but when they got to the castle gates they were surprised by hidden reinforcements, they stood there, side by side like the ultimate bros, protecting the rest of the army. They were strong, so when the wyvern riders attacked they could hold the line for quite a while, but there were just too many of them. Eventually, Cain fell, and his last words were "...tell them I didn't run". You repaid your debt to your fallen comrades Cain, you glorious bastard ;_;
a few chapters later I got the staff that lets you revive one unit and I revived Caeda because I wanted a waifu for Marth, sorry Cain
