Also age of empires 2 thread
>houses next to town centre
>houses in a single row with no room for expansion in the other axis
>trees around town centre not cut down
>not placing your mill strategically so that farms are in between the mill and the town centre, reducing the time it takes for farmers to deposit their food
2/10 wouldn't invade
is it just me or is the campaign incredibly long? holy shit with each level taking me a couple days to beat and multiple levels for every campaign, I'm going to be playing this for a year. I dont think I ever beat it when I got it at the book sale as a kid.
>not loving the long as fuck campaign that teaches you a shit load about history
>not puzzling the literal shit out of your history teach in 5th grade by knowing the entire tale of Barbarossa
Why are you taking so long to do the campaign? Are you playing on turtle speed? Are you pussyfooting around building a huge army so you have minimal casualties?
It shouldn't be taking you that long
>max level AI FFA
>immediately stone wall off all entrances and turtle for 2 hours watching them tear each other apart and ultimately come after you
I may have had autism but this was how I killed weekends.
This is now an AoE2 strategy thread.
Here's how I get to Feudal Age in the shortest time:
1. Spend all food on villagers
2. Get two of your existing villagers to make one house each
3. Set all villagers to chop wood until you have enough for a mill and barracks
4. Make one villager build a mill (ideally close to the deer) and another build a barracks
5. Set all villagers to herd sheep or hunt
6. As soon as you have 500 food, start researching Feudal Age
7. Redistribute villagers so a few are cutting wood
8. Spend your gold and remaining food on militiae
Should get you to Feudal Age in <5 minutes.
>tfw i did puzzle adults with weirdly specific historical knowledge as a kid
I read in a strategy guide once that building your houses in a spread out manner around your TC was a good strategy. It tends to break up large forces and distract them before they can get to you TC, giving you time to amass your own defense.
Is there any merit to it?
Well granted I only play a few hours a day, but maybe it's because i need to crank up the speed.
Usually I don't build up huge armies, I try to keep up constant, small attacks to make it a hard time for the enemy to build up armies/ resources. And then when i do attack in force, I keep up a long battle where I constantly make new reinforcements to send to the battle as I lose units. Is this a bad strat?
I've been playing Rise of Nations and it looks A LOT like this game.
Coincidence? Or do all strategy games take inspiration from each other?
Age of empires 2 for mac is abandonware...
If you're desperate to not pirate this 16 year old game you could always dl it here and use compatibility programs to run it.
Not him, but I don't think that's a bad strategy. It's similar to what I do, although I usually try to make multiple groups and do pincer attacks, but you can't always do that in the campaigns.
>mfw an idiot in my class tried to explain religious conversion based on what he learned from AoE 2
>original AoE2 straight off the shelf on release day
>doesnt work or install
>steam niggers make 99% of serial keys unusable on steam
>same with every other physical disc i own
Fucking greedy faggots I dont want to pay £14 for something I already own
Oh shit, I can't believe I forgot this game
I gotta dig up the disc somewhere back at the old house.
How is AOE3?
Campaign has interesting level variety, but the actual storyline is terrible.
All the expansion civs feel extremely gimmicky and don't mesh well with the vanilla ones.
Graphics are really good though.
if you ask me, the only aspect that isn't improved is that the musket age combat has a different feel than medieval. Not better, not worse, just different.
Overall though, they improved every feature and added more
>orderly neighborhood, no dark alleyways for highwaymen to hide in
>local produce just across the street and the town center is a 2 minute walk away
>lumberyard and barracks not far either
7/10 would experience bronze age in
I bought the Extended Edition a couple of days on Steam when it was 75% off.
I've owned a physical copy of the game and the expansion since release, but I figured I might as well get the digital copy of it for convenience and in case I ever lose one of my original CDs.
I've been enjoying it quite a lot recently, it's pretty comfy to just expand across the map and I like how your resources will never run out, something that always bothered me when I played Age of Empires games as a city builder.
Oh, and there's Steam Workshop for it and there's a mod that gives you unlimited population limit and no Armageddon, which is pretty nice.
That's true, but I was showing what he's supposed to aim for. He'll notice it won't fit perfectly, but as the berry distance isn't always the same and thus the mill will move to different places on every map he'll have to put those blank spots to different places every time anyways if he wants to make it "look pretty".
Get better internet you third world shitter, pngs are fine.
Are you blind or simply have never played AOE to notice that he cut off the HUD parts?
What are the beige/white spots?
>Get better internet you third world shitter, pngs are fine.
