...Ace Attorney thread?
>Favorite prosecutor: Godot
>Favorite case: 3-2
>How do you feel about the latest upcoming prequel title: Pretty promising
Also beat AAI2/GK2 yesterday, got some questions for that:
-Whose fingermark was framed on that angel painting, and why did the pharmacist not age!?
-Who was the body double, and how did the balloon crush him exactly?
I've been playing through Ace Attorney randomly for a few years already, played through the GBA part on DS and I'm now midway through the bonusepisode I think. Are the sequels to this game as fucking hard as this case? Because this is the first one where I had to use a walkthrough to aid me.
>Favorite prosecutor: Edgeworth
>Favorite case: 5-DLC
>How do you feel about the latest upcoming prequel title: Fuck the japs and their pedophilia
>-Who was the body double, and how did the balloon crush him exactly?
The real president had a body double for security reasons, but the body double wanted to murder the president and become the real one.
The balloon crushed him because Simon let the metal basket drop and it fell right on top of him.
Okay the balloon is clear now, and I already understood the body double's motive and actions, but he is never given a name or identity, right? Just like the Phantom in Dual Destinies
Imagine if he had just talked to her like a normal human being. Maybe even have her visit his brother in the hospital
I think/hope she's just Watson's daughter
>8 year old
>turn established character into an 8 year old girl for no reason
Theres absolutely no cover to judge, especially considering its fucking Japan. I seriously cannot believe you would defend that shit.
8 year old doing X is stupid!!! But doing Y is perfectly ok!!!
It's the fucking Ace Attorney universe. Hardly anything makes sense.
And it's fiction, just like Sherlock. A fucking videogame.
Not that anon, nor do I have a problem with baby Watson, but I don't think that works that well as a comparison. Inate spirit channeling abilities in a world where spirit channeling exists isn't that unbelievable. Watson had at most four years as a functioning, semi-independent human being and already has a Ph.D, something that requires tremendous amounts of dedicated research(independent of intellect) and she's an established author at the same time? Since AA has yet to establish that doctorate requirements are different than the real world's I can see why some people might find that jarring.
>Favorite prosecutor: Edgeworth
Either Von Karma or Blaise
>Favorite case: 1-4
>How do you feel about the latest upcoming prequel title: I haven't played a disappointing AA game yet, so great.
No I am not moving goalposts.
Channeling the dead is fiction but fucking medicine is not. Its something you actually study.
Even if its fiction the series is still realistic. Its quite easy to interpret Watson turning from a full grown man who's a doctor into an 8 year old loli who's also a doctor as loli pandering because Japan simply MUST have their token loli character.
Its about as shoehorned as Kay was for AAI except its worseand actually annoying this time because it doesn't make any fucking sense for an 8 year old to be a professional doctor.
And lobsters don't float in the air when someone gets really mad.
>tfw we'll never see 27 year old Franziska
>tfw she'll never be shocked over the fact Phoenix has a child
Man, I hope the next game in the Phoenix timeline would bring back another old character.
>Even if its fiction the series is still realistic.
Ah yes you mean like how realistic it is to have 13 year old prosecutors?
Or how realistic it is to have super holograms that make a scene look like it did years ago via button inputs?
>13 year old prosecutors
Its obvious that the series likes to make mary sues like feels girl in 5 with this but at least they aren't ridiculosly young.
The youngest prosecutor I know of is Franziska and she's nowhere near that age. They also give a reasonable explanation to why she's prosecutor at such a young age.
>cartoon drawn game
>uses exaggerated animations for a fun outlook
>an argument of any sort
Did anyone else read this article? I thought it was pretty interesting.
>flying lobsters don't count because I say so.
Franziska started her legal studies in Germany at a very young age, and by the age of 13, she was set to pass the bar exam.
Nigger, flying lobsters and other exaggerated animations are there because they are funny. Its part of the charm of the game.
It doesn't affect the actual fucking plot or plot devices. It is in no way a goddamn argument.
Also as far as Franziska goes. The way I interpreted that chapter was that she was still in training, hence why she often made minor mistakes or missed details in comparison to edgeworth when analyzing the crime.
If they actually said that though, then I guess I just don't remember.
You niggers are forgetting that:
1) 8 is very younger than 13. 5 years of difference is not something to scoff at for youngsters
2) A PhD of medecine requires at least 10 years of studies while a lawyer degree require 3
There's just no way to rationalize this
The point is you're bitching about real world logic, when the AA universe doesn't follow it like law.
So what if she's super smart and has a PhD? It's fiction. It's not following real world rules just like channeling isn't.
I would assume that the writers would have to follow some sort of logic when writing their characters.
If the universe resembles real life just ebough for you to interpret that studying to become a professional at something takes time (and it does because characters go to school/college in that game) then having an 8 year old have a phd in something that takes a long time to study like medicine doesn't make any sense and its a very very blatant character. Like, you can tell that the only reason she's a young girl is because of pandering.
At least for Franziska she has the excuse of being tutored by her father ever since she was young.
If you wanna make that comparison though as a anon already said, law doesn't take as much time to study as medicine. She could also have simply just skipped high school and went straight for the bar exam.
Sure. If that does happen I'll be greatly surprised and maybe even pleased by their choice
But it's far, far more likely that they just did it for lolifags pandering
>has a PhD
>semi-independent human being and already has a Ph.D
>2) A PhD of medecine requires at least 10 years of studies while a lawyer degree require 3
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this game take place in 19th Century London? How the fuck does someone get a PhD before they exist?
Lets try to put things in perspective.
When Franziska was introduced, she was 19 years old and described as a prodigy. Any intent of showing her backstory probably wasn't planned at that point. Thats besides the point though, the real point here is that they introduced her when she was at a reasonable age.
This character thats getting introduced is supposed to be Watson, an already established character in another series. Like, completely ripped out from that series just like Holmes...except he gets portrayed as an 8 year old girl with a phd in medicine for no other reason.
Setting aside the whole "it doesn't matter how young you are". Why exactly was this change done? Because as blatant as the design is I think its oretty obvious.
Hence why some people find it intolerable.
I don't think it was any less complex, in fact it was probably more complex due to lack of machines and computers and other things that facilitate processes.
If thats the case they could probably just retcon it or make the excuse that she's studied in america as a prodigy that could read and write when she was 1 year old.
>>Favorite prosecutor: Miles (but Barham gives him a run for his money)
>>Favorite villain: Manfred
>>Favorite case: 1-4
>>How do you feel about the latest upcoming prequel title: might be cool
note, I have not beaten the all of the AA games
>Got her badge when she was 18
>Is very gentle and everyone likes her
>Has special abilities like super-hearing and can read your feelings
>Gets to work and be best friends with the main character
>Has a super tragic and dark past
A mary sue is a completely idealized character to the point of being unrealisitic for the universe they're set in.
Compared to Franiska becoming a lawyer at 13 and Maya's ability to talk to dead people, none of what Athena does is unreasonable.
An attorney being the main character of an Ace Attorney game doesn't make them a mary sue
Franziska does have an excuse in this actually.
Still bullshit that she got it so young but it does make more sense than Athena because she was directly tutored by her father.
Also the game shows that she wasn't top tier pro at the age of 13.
except she got a badge and went through college at an incredibly unreasonable age, has the plot completely centered around her, steals the show completely and feels totally shoehorned just like Kay.
Maya isn't an attorney.
Nigger knowing if you lied or not. A person who dies doesn't necessarily see their killer or the circumstance behind it all the time
Also she studied psychology AND fucking law and still graduated by 19
I think mood matrixn is better than perceive or, at least, when Phoenix used it. He would integrate his mood matrix findings into another question, not too dissimilar to his pressing questions, and it always seemed somewhat presentable to court. While in AA4, Apollo would just yell out that he caught someone's eye twitching and that it obviously meant the witness was lying, and the judge and prosecution just rolled with it. It's better in AA5 since I only remember him doing it outside the court
>Nigger knowing if you lied or not. A person who dies doesn't necessarily see their killer or the circumstance behind it all the time
That was just some bullshit Takumi had to pull to prevent Phoenix from being able to solve 90% of his cases with no effort
>Also she studied psychology AND fucking law and still graduated by 19
And Franziska graduated law at 13. being able to do psychology in 4-5 isn't unreasonable by those standards
>Hijacks the main character's position
You spend more time playing as Apollo and Phoenix
Maybe if you weren't being biased, you'd realize Apollo would press an issue further when he noticed the twitch.
And perceiving is a legit ability that many interrogators in the police have when questioning.
Mood matrix is literally having a machine telling you what people feels and then base your whole case in that.
Its never states that she graduated infact its implied that she only passed the bar exam. Two different things.
Its more probable that she was directly tutored by her father rather than going to college because its stated that she went to elementary school.
What article? Can you give me a link?
Apollo is never presenting twitches as evidence. Can you fucking read? He presses further based on the sentence they say when twitching. He never told the judge "THE WITNESS TWITCHED, HE'S THE KILLER"
Emotion bullshit is just as bad as Kay's little thief. It's a fucking emotion reading machine.
>Emotion bullshit is just as bad as Kay's little thief. It's a fucking emotion reading machine.
It's almost as if the game takes place in the future or something and utilizes science fiction elements
>Athena literally has a machine that tells her. Basically Athena's ability is broken.
Athena's machine just visualizes what she hears so that someone without her ability can understand it
>It's almost as if the game takes place in the future or something and utilizes science fiction elements
Yeah, ergo why they're bullshit. That's the whole point. Mood matrix is just a bullshit gimmick.
>"So rubble started falling on me"
>LOL WAIT BUT DID YOU FEEL HAPPY?
>"Oh yes because Apollo was there"
>LOL WAIT BUT DID YOU ALSO FEEL SAD?
>"Oh yes because I couldn't find my plushie"
"I was so sad when I found her dead body
"But your tone of voice suggests that you were actually happy. Isn't that strange?"
"Okay, I was happy because blah blah blah"
It's the same shit
>Yeah, ergo why they're bullshit. That's the whole point. Mood matrix is just a bullshit gimmick.
Because if the games didn't introduce new shit for solving cases they'd get repetitive
Holy fuck, you really are just pulling out words /v/ loves to use without actually knowing what they mean.
Fuck you and your kind for rendering newer PW games borderline impossible to discuss
Am I the only one who find's Kay's desing really out of place? I can't quite put my finger on it, but I guess it's maybe that they went a bit overboard with her expressions and animu eyes?
>Her hair is fucking retarded
And here I was thinking it couldn't get any worse
Ema wasn't even a fucking detective she was a forensic put in the detective spot.
I thought it was dumb for a character with her potential. Would have preferred if she was just a forensic in the first place.
>Ema wasn't even a fucking detective she was a forensic put in the detective spot.
And that's why she's frustrated and cranky, because she wanted to be a forensic scientist. That's why her character was good this time
Or did you want 24 year old Ema still going "lol science and blood detector!"
Haven't played AA5 quick question
I mean he's pretty much like the best defence attourney in the country and pretty freaking famous too.
But why isn't phoenix wiping the floor with every case by now i mean the way he acted in AJ made me assume he reached a state like Mia Fey were they knew the answer but held back just for their kouheis to get stuff.
He was reset to his trilogy self.
Now he's again the silly goofy bluffy attorney who overreacts to things
Most of the time Nick finds the truth either during the trial or in the following days
He doesn't have access to all the info the police has, so he must wait until everything is presented and make everything fit. He IS much better at it now.
>still perpetuating this bullshit
He wasn't "reset" to his trilogy self. Even in AA4 he was still a bit of a goof when you played as him. And in AA5 he still comes off as fairly serious when you're not playing as him.
He wasn't depressed. He pretty moved on with this life and started his new bachelor lifestyle with Trucy.
Phoenix NEVER overreacted in AJ. Ever. He spent years hiding his emotions through poker.
Still waiting for answers on my questions for case 3 in AAI2/GK 2, see first post.
Also made my own opinion of that reaction pic someone posted. What do you guys think?
I have yet to play Professor Layton VS. Phoenix Wright. Is it worth it if I have never touched a Professor Layton game?
>-Who was the body double, and how did the balloon crush him exactly?
The body double was the body double, the fake president. He was acting as the president of the Zhang Fae after he killed the actual president years back.
The balloon was able to crushed him because it weighed a shit ton, those things are huge.
I don't want to start a waifu wars, but Maya is pretty much the only good assistant.
Every single thing Kay says ends up mentioning stealing.
Every single thing Young Ema says ends up involving science.
Maya started the stepladder joke. Maya has more than one quirk (Food! Spirt Channelling Training! Stealing shit!)
Gumshoe also was a great assistant.
I couldn't stand seeing Kristoph as the villain again, and I didn't like the Mason system.
In what way did I fuck up?
This got already answered, thanks. I'm referring to the case 3 questions, the age of the pharmacist and the framed fingermark on the angel painting.
Maya is horrible. Her only notable traits are that she likes burgers and doesn't know the difference between a ladder and a step-ladder.
Everybody else had more interesting personality traits. Magic, science, and thievery are cooler than that psychic bullshit.
>being an imbecile
Maya has unique dialogue that doesn't spin around the same shit every time. She's a full character that isn't defined by one gimmick.
Kay NEVER shuts the fuck up about stealing and the great thief.
That is because Maya is a cute assistant and was the first one. She isn't talking about LOL BURGERS every time like Kay talking LOL STEALING.
Trucy is pretty much the best Maya clone. Contrary to retards who only remember DD Trucy, she wasn't talking about panties every time, at least in AJ.
Dahlia has a more interesting background anyway, and is involved in better cases. I still wonder if we will ever get to see the father of the twin sisters making an appearance.
>There are people on this thread whose first AA game was Dual Destinies
Acro acknowledges that he was being a shit, he was just so mad at her that he didn't care though. Not that it makes it right but his whole deal was that he atleast showed remorse for his actions (maybe, depending on whether or not you agree with Phoenix on how he interpreted what Acro says near the end about how why he refused to turn himself in) which is unique compared to other AA villains.
Godot was sorta similar to him in some ways, honestly.
What's everyone's opinion on Edgeworth's AA5 design?
Lazy. I don't mind though.
Liked the voice because it sounds like the fan translation voice for Gregory, which makes sense because Miles is like 30 now.
Having said that, I've only heard the Objection! voice clip and not a full cutscene or anything.
>Favorite prosecutor: Franziska
>Favorite case: 1-4, but I love 3-5 a lot too.
>How do you feel about the latest upcoming prequel title: I really don't know what to say about that Watson. Stop shitting me Crapcom.
Fav girl is Franziska. I discovered AA with JfA, maybe it is because of that.
>mfw Simon copied his behaviour from the pimp clown Moe himself
>Except he wasn't annoying in his true colors
I've probably been in these threads too long
I got one more.
It's also required that you have a gimmick, that you like cleaning toilets and of course that you like hamburgers
