>tfw Dreamcast is dead
>tfw most people on this board don't even remember it let alone even know it existed
I only came to the Dreamcast a few years ago, but my favorites are probably Mars Matrix and Jet Grind Radio. Honorable props to Code Veronica.
Right now I am slowly making my way through Blue Stinger (it is Christmas time after all), and I really like it in a "this game is kind of funny-shitty" sort of way.
crazy taxi. I always fucking loved that dreamcast had those games that were like "I'm not doing anything at the moment, fuck it, let's play some crazy taxi" and it never felt like I went into it to accomplish anything in particular, just have some fun. It was the same with typing of the dead and powerstone as well.
>Rival Schools 2: Project Justice
Man, I played this on ps1. Capcom will never make a new one, and you had to remind me again.
And I loooooved shenmue. It´s dead too.
This is why I fucking hate dreamcast threads.
>tfw my Dreamcast is damn near close to death
And yet my Genesis is working 90% just fine.
>tfw my best friend got one for christmas the year after it came out with Marvel vs Capcom 2
>tfw so excited when he invited me over to play it after New Year's
>tfw some assholes broke into his house the day before I went over and stole the console but left the games and cables like some sick and twisted joke
Fuck that neighborhood.
>tfw Sega was never allowed to perfect the Dreamcast
>tfw Sega was never allowed to make a Dreamcast 2
>tfw Microsoft is a poor alternative to Sega
I just want games to be gud again.
de la Jet Set Radio, a JP only special edition that nonetheless has english text by system settings
all the goodness of the original with JP names for those who were changed, JP version tags, and no fucking Dragula
GUNDAM MOTHERFUCKING SIDE STORIES
The only FPS gundam sim that matters.
man, as a kid I wasn't really aware of Sega's incompetence until the moment the Dreamcast was discontinued. Seems like one day it was getting loads of games, all the magazines were talking about new releases and stuff, then the next day I picked up a new Dreamcast at Gamestop for $25. Shit done changed
Power Stone 2
House of The Dead 2
House of The Dead 2 is still and will forever be my favorite light gun game.
Using an air gun to blow holes in chests was too fucking fun, lordy
It didn't take until this post to realize exactly what that feel was. That was something special about Sega's games those days. It's probably because of how arcade-y many of them felt.
>tfw i cleaned up my Dreamcast recently and now it works again just like it did in its best times
My Playstation is still broken though.
Need a new laser for that.
Shenmue, Shenmue 2, Power Stone, Crazy Taxy, Power Stone, Sonic Adventure (those chaos, that visual memory), PSO, Code Veronica, Blue Stinger and a fuckton of other awesome games man, that console was the shit, I still have it and I might plug it in again eventually, as much as I liked the ps2 era, gaming kinda died for me with the Dreamcast.
Not spacing out the fucking consoles is what killed SEGA, the Saturn was popular in Japan.
If anything not releasing the CD and 32X would have been beneficial as it wasn't popular anywhere.
it was fucking everywhere at the time and it wasn't even enjoyable the first time I heard it
grind city's other songs fit it nicely, with improvise being perfect for bantam street and just got wicked suiting grind square nicely but dragula fit neither and just grinded on my eardrums every time it came on
I played this game more times than I can remember.
Also, the Japanese bonus disc where you fight the RX-78 is one of the most difficult fights in gaming ever.
Shame the Japanese version of the game isn't as well optimized the US one.
FYI Anyone planning to burn a buncha DC ISOs for a comfy weekend, try to use only ReviveDC rips. They are new rips pulled straight from GD with modern precautions taken to replicate the original disc, shit that Echelon and Kalisto ignored in the early 2000s.
If you can't find a ReviveDC version DCRES releases should be passable.
ReviveDC rips are really nice - bypassing region lock for import games, and in general being high-quality. Two thumbs up!
I sort of liked Dragula; I guess you can say it really 'dates' the game, but it gave off the right type of punky teenage anger that the game does pretty well.
CD wasn't a bad idea at the time, pushing FMV gaming and designing the thing to be fairly complicated to use its extra power was bad.
The 32X happened just because SOJ was too fucking stupid to tell SOA "hey, that mightn't be a good idea, the Saturn's about to come out." SOJ was so fucking stupid, they incorporated design elements from the Saturn for the 32X (namely the dual SH-2 CPUs; god the 32X's design is silly -- that's because you're pretty much just given a framebuffer and some fast CPUs and told to go wild and oh, you need to know how to sync multiple processors and maybe write ASM for 3 different architectures (SH2, 68k, and the z80 if you bothered with it)).
The Saturn's issue was it's completely retarded launch. Mightn't have done that well in the west either way, but the fucking early release made no sense. Killed any dev support it might have had in the grave, was $100 more than the PS1, etc, etc. Also, there was like, one good game (Panzer Dragoon) at the time.
The DC's issue was that it didn't do so hot in Japan, because it killed the Saturn early. Also, Sega was hemorrhaging money like crazy for whatever reason after 1998, even though the DC sold damn well in the US. Not amazingly, but it certainly didn't do bad for the time. Oh, and the PS2 launch was about to happen, and MUH DVDs. Oh, and piracy, I remember getting my first computer that had a CD burner in 1999, and CDs were like, $2/disc.
speaking of which, I should get a stack of CD-Rs, only have blank DVDs at my house right now
How can this thread go on without this being mentioned?
>tfw i literally have an airship
>tfw no friends to ride on it with me
>it's rotting in my garage right now
>girls on CL think im full of shit and won't come see it
>no good ending for me
>will never be vyse
>will never cutlass fury
>will never rue the day
This game was fucking awesome.
Blue Stinger comes to mind. Corny as fuck but pretty good for one of the first DC games. The most time I've probably invested in Shen Mue and Time Stalkers - the latter had a lot of side stories for the characters which made it somewhat interesting.
It's been a whole bunch of years, but IIRC in the ending to Zombie Revenge it was hinted that they are linked/play in the same universe. At the end Stick Breitling (I think that was that guys name) received a call where he's surprised and says something like "Now he's taken hostages on a yacht".
Which by extension would mean that Dynamite Cop plays in the same universe as HotD. Which would also mean that Die Hard Arcade (which was the prequel to Dynamite Cop) would also play in the same Universe. Which means Bruce Willis exists in the same Universe as HotD.
Virtual-On was so fucking awesome
I wasted a ton of allowance just going to the local ice rink and playing the cabinet with a couple friends
Some of my favourite games on the system have come out on other consoles, so it's a close call between Tech Romancer and Project Justice: Rival Schools 2.
Bonus round is Record of Lodoss War.
Those are SEGA Saturn games.
Tech Romancer was so goddamn cool man
All those thinly veiled references
DAMN THE TORPEDOS
this game man
used to play it at the Pizza Hut down the road, wanted to get a Dreamcast with this, Sonic Adventure, and Fur Fighters back then
I only got a DC 3 years ago...
Of all the ones that haven't been posted yet, or maybe even overall.
supposedly there's a GD-ROM drive hardware emulator that runs games off of an SD card, and I want it so badly
but it's like 100EUR (I know a Saturn CD replacement board definitely exists, and it's that much)
Don't worry I remember the Dreamcast Sonic Adventures 1 was so fun when I was an oblivious shild, but now it makes me cringe. Still play it though.
I have two, but one broke ;_;.
It sucks when the good shit never stays ;~;.
Take good care of it ;_;7.
All these feels.
My negro. My favorite game of all time.
Fucking loved it, spent a ton of time playing this game. Shame it never got ported.
or maybe not since the only way to play it besides emulator is on the one and only Dreamcast.
>played some of this a while back
>kicking ass as Rikiya
>got a copy of Project X Zone for dirt cheap some time later because i saw some Sakura Taisen on the cover
>Fuckin Busujima and Delinger show up and start blowing the hell out of everything
PxZ was dull as hell but the fan service and cameos were neat. Kinda miss the purple pants.
BITCHES DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY CANNON SPIKE
Probably why I like the Burnout series so much.
>tfw steam PC port doesn't have the music, the ads, or analog control at all
I still got it because my disc has skipping music, and you can replace the audio on PC in like 5 seconds
and I never used the analog stick at all for this game on DC anyway so that doesn't matter
Time Stalkers. Yes most people seen it as shit but I found it to be quite enjoyable once you give it a real chance. Very short game with some replay value as you have many characters to choose from and they have different dialog depending on who you choose for the first run of dungeon X.
So everyone always gushes over Skies of Arcadia, but I've never actually played it. Should I play the Gamecube or Dreamcast verison? Currently on a big old-school JRPG binge.
Skies, SF3, Power Stone/2, Shenmue, MVC2, Plasma Sword, Gundam Side Story 0079, RE:CV, Project Justice
remember when Capcom was a God?
I played it on DC but you might as well go for legends since it has a bit more content and the random encounter rate is lower. Problem is the OST got messed up. Maybe the community made a patch or something.
While you're at it try out Evolution Worlds, on the GC also. It's both Evolution games from the DC combined.
It's combat system is a little similar to Wild ARMs.
And speaking of, Thousand Arms (PS1) is pretty fun. Does the whole dating sim + RPG in a fun way.
I made it all the way to the very last boss, the VERY. LAST. BOSS. and couldn't beat it because my party was too weak.
I didn't grind very much while I had the chance and then it was too late.
a man of taste and refinement you are
I've spent a billion hours in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on Dreamcast. I know everything about those games by heart and it isn't even funny.
Resident Evil 2, 3, CV. Zombie's Revenge, Crazy Taxi, other than that. Lots of emulator discs with roms.
Fuck, this game brings me so many feels.
listen to his music it's like travel back in time.
Oh fuck, the nostalgia...
Dc is my favourite console of all time. It had so much soul, it was a real deal home arcade machine, the most fun I ever had with a console... I'll probably buy one again
D2 is still a DC exclusive, it's flawed but I found it really fascinating the first go around.
My other favorites are JGR, Sega Rally 2, Soul Calibur, DOA2, Rayman 2, as well as a bunch of shmups I've downloaded
Fuck yes. Back in elementary school we had an assignment to write a story. I just took the plot to this gem of a game. Straight from the motherfucking game. Aced that assignment.
call me shit but,....
Why? Holy shit man, i was playing a pro arcade game at home! I know, there were a lot of snes arcade ports but it was not the same. Graphics were awesome, maybe better than gamecube (of course PS2 was shit, cant even compete here)
