Is this game any good?
It's a great Metroidvania. It's short, sweet, and does a great job of giving Shantae a completely new moveset as compared to the previous games. It was my favorite game of 2014. It's the only game in a long time that I didn't mind the character's dialog.
99 percent of the game is side scrolling bliss and I really didn't mind the banter.
Im about 60% on my first play through, definitely a step up from RR
Where the fuck is Branson's Sword?
reminds me of getting Summon Knight: Swordcraft Story
chronologically, the only thing the first one suffers from is the small screen size
Im at the black goo people island right now, haven't done the den of evil yet. I combed that desert high and low but to no avail, the only area I cant reach is the one where you need some speed boost or something
Literally any game, they all pretty much hold the same kind of atmosphere.
First one has better transformations, but the camera size might not be preferable.
People talk about the gameplay almost all the time, especially when Pirate's Curse first came out, you can't be surprised when people take notice of the fanservice as well.
>the only area I cant reach is the one where you need some speed boost or something
Well then, you'll just have to go check that place out once you have the ability to do so. Who knows, maybe the sword is there?
>paying $20 for what equates to a GBA game
Good thing I have Gateway.
Wii U as well.
People talk about the gameplay, but most of the time there really isn't a need because the games are pretty straightforward.
I have a dream that some day, good games like th Shantae series will see physical releases so that all gamers can enjoy owning an actual product and not just rent some code for as long as the onlne service lasts.
I also dream of a world were different release dates and region locks will be illegal and be a thing of the past.
I doubt it's getting a PC port, the Wii U one's the HD port.
What the fuck is it with Way Forward being unable to fucking port anything to other regions in a normal amount of time.
Even the fucking off-shoot studio that made Shovel Knight took almost a fucking year to release it in the EU.
I guess I can just blame NoE. NoE are fucking terrible, bunch of awful fucking Germans.
I know that, but it's still jarring coming back to it after all the improvements SatPC made. Level design feels a lot more cramped, for starters.
It's chugging along.
Still being developed.
If you don't have a 3DS, probably not.
>You can pirate it.
Since when? Eshop games still seem unpiratable to me.
Sadly, I have no WiiU or 3DS (anymore), so I'm stuck waiting for Half-Genie Hero.
Would pay good money for a PC port of Pirate's Curse, but I'd be ok with a 3DS/WiiU ROM and just throw more money at their kickstarter.
The female mud thing is probably in if the "male" is.
>fucking around in the Village of Lost Souls
>find a hidden passage with gems that opens with a cannon jump
Riddle me this:
Why would I pay $20 for a game that has the graphics of a GBA game? Hell, the graphics on Risky's Revenge are practically the same, and that was a shitty DSiware game that was originally planned to be a GBA game.
Maybe if they used high end sprites and some generally better graphics, it may be worth paying $20 for.
>game has detailed and fluid sprites that look great
>but muh graphacks $10 off or no shekels
you sound like that shmuck who wrote an artical on how any 2D game shouldnt be full price
I wonder why people only ever say things like this for western games.
>detailed sprites that look great
Wait, when did sprites like >>278020564 have detail? That's GBA tier, anon. There's plenty of games that have great detail in sprites, but this certainly isn't one of them. Even games like Azure Striker have better detailed sprites (and that's STILL a ripoff at $15 for what equates to a short DS game).
That's because Cave Story was free, and so we weren't even getting a new game. We were literally just getting Cave Story, with some fairly bad 3D graphics when it was first revealed, at a $30 or more price tag.
>I wonder why people only ever say things like this for western games.
Because people playing weeb games will either throw any amount of money at them or just pirate them all anyways.
Physical releases are only going to become more rare as the industry moves towards digital downloads. Eventually, consoles won't even be able to read physical media.
Speaking of which, I just had an idea.
>buy special edition of Half-Genie Hero
>get a large figurine of Shantae with removable
>the base has a micro-USB port
>plug it in
>it's a copy of the game
Does something like this already exist?
It's not as curved as before, but the portraits might be good, if they don't just use the ones from Pirate's Curse.
Can't see how it could ruin the series.
The portrait artwork will probably be similar to the holiday cards they keep sending out.
yeah, exactly. my point is that half-genie hero is using flash-like animation with about 5 frames per animation and it looks shit and devoid of shantae's usual charm. she also looks less sexy and more chibi now
>delicious brown belly dancer
>tfw nips aren't interested in drawing a doujin of Shantae and her friends getting wrecked by giant monsters
Bought Risky's Revenge during the Steam sale. I'm lost and I'm only at the beginning. Left the town and traveled to the right: blocked by a rock golem.
Traveled to the left and can't jump high or far enough to reach the ledge there.
What am I doing wrong here?
>chronologically, the only thing the first one suffers from is the small screen size
And lack of a map. Still totally worth playing though. For as old as the first one is, it is beautifully animated.
Because it's Rave in the Grave.
Though I do love Burning Town.
The original is fairly straight forward.
An amazing game, up until I reached the endgame that is. Trying to track down the last few heart squids is like pulling teeth. My inner completionist won't let me finish without 100%, but I've been retracing my steps everywhere with no luck.
Also, does anyone know if there's a completely different ending when you have all tinkerbats, or is the good ending just the bad ending with extra stuff?
>implying some flimsy reason wouldn't have her lose most of her magic outside of not getting skewered to death by huge beast and monster dicks
I want to see her get gangbanged by those snake/medusa creatures, the giant rock golems, huge octopuses, all sorts of big monsters and creatures as they violate every orifice and force her to orgasm even as she pleads for them to stop or not be so rough. She should be double penetrated even as she lies there with empty eyes and body lifeless from cumming too much, still letting out little squeaks of pain from each powerful thrust into her anus.
I want to see her hips move on their own. Am I sick?
All I want is that sprite of sky laying in her chair in the princess outfit
Shantae is known for being a fantastic metroidVania game with a lot of charm, challenge, and wit put into every screen.
It's just impossible to not notice all dat delicious sprite work.
I guess I'll just post some art
>You skull and jaw will never be used as mammary and and crotch protectors
that'd be terrible dude
imagine if you were a human and had your face used as clothing
It's what you get for speedrunning Risky's Revenge, but slightly off.
>Trying to track down the last few heart squids is like pulling teeth.
But...they tell you which islands the squids are left on, and there are three in every dungeon. It's not that tough.
>Also, does anyone know if there's a completely different ending when you have all tinkerbats, or is the good ending just the bad ending with extra stuff?
Totally different ending.
>kinda want to talk about gameplay
>mfw realizing there was hardly anything left to talk about a month ago
>What's the ending if you don't 100% the game?
Final boss ends after you beat the first, "normal size" phase, Pirate Master laughs at you and leaves, Risky takes her cursed items back and vows to spend the rest of her life hunting him down even though it's basically hopeless and everyone is fucked, Shantae doesn't get her magic back.
So why do people keep saying Risky's Revenge sucks?
It's the only game in the series I've played so far and it seems alright.
Spiderweb > Tanline > Saliva > Mudbog > Frostbite
It's just shorter than the rest. That, and a lot of content that was expected wasn't in the final cut.
When you compare what we got to >>278037474, >>278037586, and >>278037881, I think it's fair to say that RR was a bit disappointing.
And it was smaller and less gratifying.
some of those unused ideas better be in HGH
mainly transformation combining and alternate hairstyle attacks
I know what islands they're on, but I can't remember where I got the ones I do have (That'll teach me to play when I'm half-asleep at 2 in the morning). I didn't actually know there were 3 per dungeon and that you could get them all in the first run through until I got to the end.
Maybe I'll just finish the game without them and do it better the second playthrough.
is there absolutely no bellydancing in the pirate's curse? isn't that what defined Shantae? I'm nearly finished with the game and it just feels like an above average platformer in comparison to the previous games.
Does anyone have a Shantae folder they wish to share? I lost mine and I'm feeling down on my luck.
>the coffee isn't replaced with sonic boom
> amplify the sexism by 10x
I have no qualms about that
Didn't a new one just come out or am I dream that? It's a series I've been been meaning to play for ages. Honestly the camera being so close in the first one is really off putting so I think I'll skip it.
She does with her lamp, but without her magic, what would be the point?
There's one point at the end where you have to belly dance.
Transformation dances are back in HGH, with a slight twist.
she does a nifty jig when she uses the lamp
>Get Risky's Revenge for free last year on iOS but don't get that far in it
>Want to get Pirate's Curse but it's $20
I don't know if I can justify $20. How long is it? I don't want to pay $20 for a short game.
Pirate's Curse, the game that was supposed to come out last year but was delayed for reasons, just released on Wii U. It's been on the 3DS for a couple of months now.
Half Genie Hero, the KS game, is still in development.
Nintendo fucked up. WF contacted them about it but NoA just shrugged it off. Then they proceed to put SatPC on storefront amongst a bunch of other games that are currently on sale.
WF is probably pissed with Nintendo ATM.
Shantae Zone flash with Christina Vee voice clips when?
I like Wayforward girls n general.
Have a random Kebako
>it will never ever be made
Making the best game in almost every genre just....takes time!
Cat girl without salad will prevail eventually!
It's Shantae, you're going to have to specify.
>CGw/oS is the SSS spiritual successor they keep mentioning
>except now with a gorillion more genres jammed in
>guy with his petrified wife
>bring him the spell
>"Now I can reverse the spells effects!"
>he gets petrified too
>they both fall through the floor
Felt bad man.
Be honest guys.
How many of you killed Wobble Bell?
Considering that there's an achievement tied to it now, I'm assuming most.
Yes. It will break her heart.
Okay. Lets put it this way.
How many of you killed Wobble Bell on the DSiware version of RR or without knowing of the achievement in the Steam version.
You're in a Sequin Land High-school and you find yourself enrolled in the same class as Shantae: What do?
>buying a DSi when your DS Lite still works
I actually waited and bought RR on 3DS.
DSi is really worthless now.
Even Shantae is traumatized by it.
Better hide your kids and hide your wives.
>the pc edition will be getting HD CG
Somewhere in 2016/2017
>I like these crossovers.
Shantae is great with crossovers in general
there's a difficulty cliff at the beginning, but once you get past that, you should be fine
She really is. Fits into a lot of things.
Makes me happy.
>Shantae is great with crossovers in general
Ammo baron girls are still the best.
It's like two hooligan sisters escaped into the Shantae universe.
It's pretty good, once you get used to it it's smooth sailing.
Probably wouldn't say it's as "sexual," but it has its moments, and the female npcs look nice.
Welp. Gotta make a Shantae folder now.
I got risky's revenge and am part of the backers for half genie hero, should I get pirates curse for 3ds or Wiiu? also should i get the 3ds GBC version or can I just emulate the original on PC, I thought I remember hearing that Shantae on emulators is a bit finicky
Make it a Wayforward folder.
Patty, Kebako, Luna etc. need a place too.
One of these days I'm gonna need to completely recolor this from scratch.
It is? I remember seeing many other Reverse West/East character design pictures
I wondering has it not have been edited to feature the legit design, it's legit asking to be disregarded from the shit fanart alone.
Just fanart? probably around 250 fanart.
Much more if you include official art and screenshots
This one page is the only time Shantae appears in a doujin...
I'm late as fuck but it finally happened!
Really like the "Rave in the Grave (Zombie Island)" track
>Figure out what my special ability is
>Get really good at using it
>Join the Swashbuckling Club
>Learn to swashbuckle
Half genie girls, pirate lasses AND undead ladies love swashbuckling, it's a scientific fact. love swashbuckling.
Who's the artist behind Pirate's Curse?
>Who's the artist behind Pirate's Curse?
Check his work.
Why is it so hard to find this? I didn't have enough squids the first time.
>Why would I pay $20 for a game that has the graphics of a GBA game?
I would gladly pay that for a good new GBA game. Even now.
I did exactly that even during it's time.
FE, AW, M&L etc.
Have some Patty for your folder
Considering all the guys aren't constantly trying to fuck her, it stands to reason, yes.
Above average, really.
>not having a separate Shantae folder
There's way too much good Shantae/Patty/misc. Wayforward girl art to not sort them a little better.
Fiddling with the town's sole guardian is most likely a mutual no-no.
She still has skin. Most of the time. She's pretty much gotta be waterproof given her job in 2, so why not bathe?
Also, Wayforward called her a "cyborg" at one point. I'm not sure if they know what that implies though.
I'm cool with it if she is.
Don't know about that.
Seems pretty robotic... unless her insides are flesh and blood.
Like how 18 is an android?
Matt says she prefers to be called an artificial person in one of the Nintendo Power articles.
>What can you tell us about Officer Wagon? She’s a robot, eh?
>She prefers the term artificial person, but yes, she is! Like previous WayForward heroines, Patricia Wagon is an adorably winsome lass. But unlike her predecessors, this gal packs heat and has an itchy trigger finger
>I thought that was some shitty kid's game
So I haven't actually played any of these games.
What's the best one to start with? One of them is supposed to be a disappointment or something, right? Which one is it? Should I start with that one, as the rest can apparently only get better?
How about this version of Patty
Play them in order.
The second one is a "disappointment" in that it's absurdly short and only has a couple real dungeons. Pirate it.
Third game is head and shoulders above the first two.
Apparently there is a WayForward team in Idarb.
>Super Meat Boy
I'll never ever understand /v/'s boner for Edmund McMillen.
At the same time I'm not exactly sure what a speedrun platformer and a Mega Man clone have to do with a Metroidvania. Not that Shovel Knight isn't great.
>decide to go to miiverse for some screenshots
>they are garbage and tiny
At least the doodles are nice.
>Wait curly from cave story!?
Sure. Why not?
Fits nicely with Patty too
Yeah, it's a bit of a tedious process to get good screenshots for Wii U.
I liked his art style in Double Dragon Neon.
So I played the one on steam, and thought it was okay but looked kinda like ass. It also felt really short and bare bones.
I do love metroid/castlevania style games though, so is the new one on 3DS/WiiU worth getting?
