I mean, the music they announced isn't much to get hyped for, but it's still weird to see them come back after almost 2 years.
This would be cool if I still loved Foo Fighters or had the desire to take out the drumset. I may turn the 360 on again and play on Blitz if they release anything I like though (pls new wave or post-punk).
>mfw I have custom songs and don't have to pray Harmonix starts putting out DLC again to get new content
Still glad they're still paying attention to Rock Band though
PS3bro here, is jailbreaking the only way to get custom songs? I use my PS3 online a lot for fighting games so I wouldn't want to take too big of a risk for something that might not last too much longer. My drums are falling apart and I have my red pad rewired inside and it retaped together, I have to hold it up with my knee to play effectively.
I guess with most of their big projects either finished or dead (RIP Chroma) they decided to give RB a little love. I doubt we'll ever get a full sequel but something like DC Spotlight would be nice, if only to improve the engine or make it possible for guitar, bass, and keys to be playable online at once.
>Shepard of Fire
Oh fuck. I've been waiting for a custom of it, but looks like Harmonix is on top of it.
Fucking love them. I'll have to renew my Gold though in order to do it, sadly. I think.
As somebody pointed out in the last thread
>Testing the waters that DLC is still profitable
>Testing the waters that RB is still profitable
>Testing the waters with new coded DLC that can transfer into next gen consoles
I know that feel bro,
but if they did announce RB4 with full DLC backwards compatibility I'd buy an xbone in a heartbeat. Crackdown would be the icing on the cake
>new coded DLC that can transfer into next gen consoles
I never got this. Games can already read your transaction history, especially with the Xbone/PS4. Ubi even transferred data cross-generation between their AC games, mainly for multiplayer, even if you didn't sign up for uPlay.
>I thought DLC killed them off already?
DLC is the lifeblood of these games, moreso in Rock Band's case.
>Never play rockband online
Sometimes I do it, most of the time I'm reminded why I don't, sometimes I'm glad I did
>That one guy who quits if you pick guitar first and he's forced to play base
>People who always play on expert when they clearly can't and never go down to hard
>People who only have on-disc songs and zero DLC
Sometimes I'll get a singer who's really good AND has plenty of DLC songs, singer + 1 other person is the best combo imo
>Ubi even transferred data cross-generation between their AC games, mainly for multiplayer
Wait, are you saying that your level, abilities and perks finally started carrying over to the new games?
Unfortunately not. It was basically for Black Flag. "Did you play Brotherhood/Revelations/3's multiplayer? Here's a little charm thing."
Also why the fuck is captcha asking me what things are bananas, I'm not a robot goddamn
If they do make a new Rockband, I can guarantee you'll be paying for the same songs again.
1. They're jews.
2. Most of the music needs to be re-liscensed again before Harmonix can sell it.
>I can guarantee you'll be paying for the same songs again.
They've never done this before though. Even with songs that they lost the license for and then gained back again they just let you download them.
Shit, you're right. I meant EA. I've had an off day today, Anon, thanks for having my back.
Harmonix isn't owned by Actvision.
In fact, Harmonix quit making DLC nearly 2 years ago shortly after buying themselves out of Viacom's ownership when Viacom decided to sell them, they bought themselves out instead of being sold off to shit like Activision or EA.
My guess is that buying themselves basically killed their budget too much to continue DLC at the time, and now they can finally continue.
okay fuck this, I'm too tired. Goodnight, Anons.
>That update for Rock Band 3 that replaced EA's logo and slapped Mad Catz over it
I, for one, and glad Harmonix managed to pull though on their own
>tfw good drummer
>have played on Expert for years
>have 5 starred the majority of my DLC + 3/4 of Rock Band 3s library
>3/4s of RB2 library
>friends come over to play
>noticeably miss more
I'm pretty sure the smaller highway fucks me up, I can play way better solo then in a group
Harmonix is already on Steam, they should release RB there too although I doubt I'd switch.
I guess they would add real instruments, again, but not overpriced propietary ones like the Squier Rock Band. They worked with Realta on the failed Bandfuse afterall.
I thought I was pushing it when I had almost 400 DLC songs, and even then every time I tried to play with people I wouldn't even have a third of their songs. I could tell the other players were disappointed when they spent a long time trying to pick a song, silently saying "Goddamnit this asshole doesn't even have THIS song?".
I really want to play this fucking game online, but nobody stays around for more than a song or two, and it's always during MY song choice that they leave; any asshole who also has Selkies The Endless Obsession and leaves right when it starts is an absolute faggot and I want nothing to do with them.
>Leaves when your song comes up
Goddamn do I hate that shit
>In a lobby with 2 others
>2 easy songs first
>I then pick 2 somewhat harder songs
>Peace Sells and Flirting With Disaster
>get to my songs after the first 2 boring ones
>get sent to the menu with a message saying I've been kicked
>send leader a message saying "Well fuck you too, buddy"
>"Don't pick shitty try-hard songs"
>all my wat
I was at magfest last year, a guy there brought his rock band set up and had 3000+ songs, he even brought a trapper keeper with a list of all the songs he had arranged by artist
Its so satisfying when they choose a song you downloaded and loved though
>oh shit they have this song? Nice
>OH SHIT THEY CHOSE THAT SONG? NICE
>said song has drum solo
>my time to shine
>%100 percent drum solo while they just watch
Damn it why do my drums have to be in another state ;_;
>mfw rock band guitar broke 2 weeks ago, all used game stores nearby are out, and they're crazy expensive online, and now DLC is being revived
at least it's all shit i guess
>scrolling through setlists
>see they have Andromeda songs
Are the guitars really that hard to find nowadays? I got a new one at a thrift store two years ago for only 2 bucks and kinda assumed it was like that all over the country, what with these games just fucking dying and people wanting to get rid of all their plastic instruments after the novelty wore off.
>tfw you use one of these
They went on sale for $60 at one point, same as one of the plastic ones. Nice (I had to coerce MadCatz into replacing it once but the one I've got now has lasted me for a few years at this point).
I used a Guitar Hero guitar for years (and still do) and the clicky strum bar is what makes it feel so responsive. The frets on the Guitar Hero guitar are a lot of better imo too
It was only Activision who purged their DLC libraries. Rock Band never went anywhere, even though they stopped making new games and the instruments can only be found on the secondary market.
The RB guitars are god-tier IMO
>Those small solo buttons that you can use all the time
>makes solos easier
>don't have to stretch out fingers as far as you would with the larger buttons
Damn, those were cool but $300 was too much. I'd love one in red.
I just don't like how loud they clack, sometimes I want to play it without bothering people in other rooms and the constant click-clacking gets on people's nerves.
Don't get me started on RB1 drums.
I preferred the Rock Band 3 guitar due to the smaller set of buttons closer to the base of the guitar
tfw tiny girly hands, plus everything became a hammer on during solos if you used that smaller set.
The frets on the Version 2 Rock Band guitar are perfect. I still miss the clicky strum bar from GH, though. I might do the mod to put switches in my RB guitar sometime.
>be a guitar player
>see these toy guitars
When I want to play a song and not deal with the clacky shit I just use the directional pad on the controller as a strummer instead. It's actually not too bad once you get used to it, and if you want to play one of the quieter/slower acoustic songs it's great.
i've checked already, within 100 miles of me only one person's selling a shitty off-brand guitar for $100 and that's it
however, i did just find this on CL and am fairly confused
Oh, yes. The $5 Walmart track pack. I would love to suffer through Brian Johnson butchering Bon Scott-era AC/DC songs, but it's not like every single Walmart I've been to in the past five years has dozens of unsold copies of the game.
I almost bought the metallic pink bass because they were only $60 a few months ago, but now the price has shot up to $100. I always miss out on everything.
I guess I should at least pick up a keyboard and some drum cymbals before those disappear, too.
My cousin made the argument of he liked the Rock Band guitar more because of the quieter buttons
I still don't get this because I didn't think about it till later that day how he must put up with playing drums. This was recent and I've played both games for a long time so I don't know how it didn't come to mind at the time. I'm sure he would've come up with some shitty excuse anyway to agree with my older cousin. My older cousin is actually good with the Rock Band guitar though and he's just used to it.
By the way, anyone RB1/2/3 PS3 here? I can play any of them, drummer.
Rock band a really good DLC scheme going on
If you bought rock band 1 and wanted to play those songs on rock band 2 or 3 you could buy a key that lets you put all the songs onto the disc, it was like £2, and while I don't like that you had to for that it wasn't that much and you can pick up rock band 1 for filth cheap.
All DLC songs from rock band 1 and 2 could be played on rock band 3 too.
Man I really miss rhythm games
simple google search.
And this attitude is not a one-off. I remember reading articles about jimmy page complaining that it led kids to thinking that it was actually how you played music, or some stupid shit like that.
These people are clueless. They're as stuck up and conservative about music as their parents were to them
>Don't you think its probable that new instruments are on the way? Although they'd probably would be next gen only
I've considered it. I do think that Rock Band 4 is coming eventually. It would great if it was backward compatible with the old instruments, but even if it's not I can always sell off the ones I have. And I'm not about to drop $100 on a piece of plastic, especially when it might be getting replaced, that's for sure.
I think that with Guitar Hero gone, now's a great time to bring back Rock Band. Harmonix doesn't have to worry about this arms race to get a new game out every year, and they can focus on just having the instruments and base game available, with a focus on building up Rock Band as a platform for buying new songs rather than having to keep releasing new games all the time. As long as people can easily buy the game and instruments, that's what matters.
It would make sense for harmonix to breath some life back into rockband since they have zero competition. I got well over 500 songs downloaded because rockband is really a cool karaoke machine with great songs that plays the master track instead of a shitty midi version.
That being said, the pessimist in me say that it's just a contractual obligation that got forgotten and nothing more.
I know how that feels, but I am not willing to throw down $300+ USD on an Xbone.
I'd rather they make versions for past gens while making one for the new gen.
Or at least make a Rock Band for PC,
hell I almost wouldn't mind if they slap on the whole GFWL thing on it as long as I can get my tracks
>No One After 909
>No She Said She Said
Your Mother Should Know
>Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason
I was hoping for Waters or Gilmour to speak their mind.
But in a way, I also find that guitar hero does not encourage people to learn music, even though it might encourage them to pick up an instrument.
New console, anon.
There's going to be a whole new market of kids who never had a PS3/360 soon, and making a new game instead of DLC allows them to cater to this market.
I'd like them to release on Steam too, then I'd really believe they have longevity in mind for the game.
They ended RB DLC off at a good note though
Not off on a good note persay, but a funny one.
Last song ever uploaded (before now) was American Pie. "The day the music died" fit so much then.
ofcourse it does. It's two absolutely seperate things. One does not exclude the other but they compliment each other. I have plenty of friends who play instruments who love GH and RB. I myself started playing guitar after having played them religiously for about 5 years.
I know this is just something someone rigged up on the spot after seeing Synthesia, but notice how the notes don't convey any bend or slides or any information needed to actually play.
How many songs do you have in your library /v/?
I have little to no taste in music so I never know what songs to get
Not to mention that the instruments are impossible to find these days. They need an excuse to put more instruments out there every few years, because the ones people have sometimes break or someone new wants to get into the game but needs instruments. It's a supply and demand situation that they need to find the right balance with-- it was near impossible to back when there were so many different companies pumping out plastic guitars, but now I think the market is right for a slow but steady production line for plastic guitars.
I have 915 ... 916 tomm with Arctic Monkeys
>caring about RB/GH dlc when you can just download Phase Shift or FoF or GH3 with custom song tools and import any song from any RB/GH game/dlc ever plus any custom chart anyone's ever made for any of the three
I don't understand
As someone who's been playing guitar for 8 years I don't understand the appeal of these games.
Someone fill me in? I've tried playing them but I didn't find it fun or interesting in the slightest.
Been playing guitar for 8 years too, and I love the absolute shit out of these games. If you go into it thinking it's in any way comparable to the real thing, you're setting yourself up for failure. They're just fun music games where you push buttons on a plastic guitar to cool music. If you can't get behind a music game with a neat controller where the appeal is trying to beat your high scores, then it's just not for you.
I'll admit these games actually really helped me out when I transitioned to the real instrument by making my fingers more responsive and able to form chord shapes much easier. I took a guitar class in high school and noticed that I was the only person there whose fingers weren't in agonizing hell when we first started.
I really think that they should bring back the franchise.
The genre should have never died. It was the rape of Guitar Hero that made everyone panic.
Rock Band had the right idea even though I loathe DLC. That's how you handle a franchise like Rock Band. Release one game every once in a while and release songs as choice DLC or in packs. Just like I-Tunes or whatever else.
Yes. If you already have RS 2014, the original goes on sale all the time on Steam for $7. Check out other sites for good deals too.
A lot of bands are seriously against music games.
Ranging from "How dare they play our epic songs on simple controllers" to "I am so above that shit, video games fans are sub human".
>That night you first got Rock Band and got three friends together
>TFW you played Say it Ain't So eight times in one night
Don't know the specific number but the absolute rape started after Guitar Hero III. Aerosmith was a total fuck up. Didn't even have any of their decent tracks. They fucked it up so hard.
Couldn't believe it when a friend of mine got the next one. I'd google it but there's no reason to. It was so bad.
Didn't help they released them on mobile shit too so that adds to the numbers.
Activision should never be forgiven for how they truly fucked up the whole genre.
there was a shitload of loopholes they had to go through to make that work
like if you failed a song, everything just stopped; music cut out, fade to black. No "you lose!", no band members acting sad, like the Beatles were above that shit.
>watching someone play drums on easy/medium, awkwardly holding the drum sticks and awkwardly hitting the pads and still doing terribly
Pretty damn cringe-worthy
Metallica and 5 were actually really good too, like if they just released those and spent time polishing them...
but nope, fucking Activision just had to keep pumping that well until it went dry
Who /RockSmith/ here?
>started a year ago
>never picked up a guitar before in my life
>shit at first
>"holy fuck i'll never be able to do some of this stuff"
>time slowly passes
>get alot better
>tfw I get difficulty lag now on easy stuff
If you wanna get into guitar fucking buy it, especially the PC version. All them custom songs and free DLC.
I'm gonna start getting into music theory soon, probably hang out in /mu/'s /GG/ more since they're pretty swell guys.
I'd like a proper lobby/matchmaking system so I don't have to resort to the DLCquickplay website.
Better singleplayer campaign, fuck spades
Bring back proper CPUs (I remade Sir Thomas after they showed him in some pre-release screens but he was never in the game)
Don't have fans exclusively tied to goals, but to playing the game and songs.
Bring back multiple band per profile (PS3)
Bring back standing in to help others on their campaign
Completionist is obtainable without Pro Guitars
Shit a lot of stuff can be fixed for RB4 by just bring back features from RB2.
>The only good song from Sonic Highways
>Ignoring The Feast and The Famine, Subterranean, and I Am A River
>mfw really wanted to play Rockband or Guitar Hero for a few months now
>moved out and left all my instruments at my parents across the country
>probably cost a hundred or more to ship it
>only brought my Wii U with me anyway
Sonic Highways was pretty much the only album I was excited for in 2014. Something from Nothing was great, then every song after it was mediocre as shit. I remember this clearly.
>Rock Band 2 lobbies showed your character with a static camera angle
>putting a tattoo right on your bare chest telling how much DLC you have so you don't get kicked
They should've kept that static camera angle instead of that footage in the background with your characters
>putting a tattoo right on your bare chest telling how much DLC you have so you don't get kicked
That's fucking incredible
I remember that shit. My character was a gigantic faggot though in RB2.
>long brown hair
>smoke rings eyeliner
>Dr. Acula cape
>"Braaaaains" mouth makeup
>spider tattoo on the front chest
But fuck I completed the Endless Setlist 2 on Expert drums with him and I still miss him.
Remember when Rock Band was a new thing and the hype for it? I had just gotten into Guitar Hero and was getting to hard/expert songs. I remember watching all the demos at E3 and other shows. I remember rushing to Best Buy after school to awkwardly play Wanted Dead or Alive with a friend a couple strangers and singing like a strangled cat and still having the time of my life. I remember picking up the huge ass bundle box from GameStop and cramming it into the car to drive back home.
>MFW The final song on Endless Setlist 2
>doing a versus mode in RB2/GH/whatever
>completely wreck your opponent on expert
>they send you a rump-ravaged message telling you to get a life
That reminds, I fucking hate how RB3 doesn't have a face off mode, it fucking sucks.
I remember when I first played Guitar Hero at a friends house and I couldn't stop playing Monkey Wrench. When I got the actual game myself I played it non stop and ended up being too good for my friends. Good times.
>Guitar Hero/Rock Band is dead
>saw IIDX at a convention, played a bit and eventually bought a controller for it
>am now having more fun than I ever did across 5 years of GH
>has a huge and active community, new styles still coming out every year with all previous songs included
Why haven't you upgraded to IIDX master race yet, /v/?
Did you ever have guitar battles against people at parties like a huge dork? This kid and I would play each other from time to time when we ran into each other at parties. It was like we were rivals.
>ending drum solo
>big rock ending
>keep playing to control the lights and fireworks
>platinum drum icon as a reward
Best moment of my entire time playing RB.
>in Pink Floyd's case it's because they (floyd) asked for too much money
Are you referring to Roger Waters? There was no "Floyd"
>tfw I was a god on drums
my friends all lived in the neighborhood and our band held a few number 1s on leaderboards we where always in the mix for one of the top ten spots
haven't played in forever and all my friends have moved away I'm not sure I would buy it if a new one came out it just isn't the same without friends
2014 basically just a very heavily upgraded version. RS1 had some problems that RS14 fixed, it's also got a better UI, mini-games, performance, guitar detection, etc.
Skip the first one and get 2014.
I have some stuff I wanna do, we might just have to do this tomorrow. Unless you can find it in the next 5 minutes
My yellow pad is going out too by the way, it won't register every 20 or so hits
No loading times, more techniques, more lessons. I prefer the old minigames, specially the scales minigame but the new chord minigames is better. Only get the first game if you want to import its 50+ songs or if you can get a good deal. Its sometimes cheaper to buy the game + cable than the cable by itself.
Doubt it, 2014 was just released on xbone and ps4. They are still working on that iOS version. Although I read that Ubisoft San Francisco was hiring so maybe.
>mfw i got the keyboard a few weeks ago from gamestop for $10
>tfw getting it years later in Rock Band
>trying to play it on expert vocals
>failing like a little bitch
Man, being a vocals main sucked when you realized you didn't have the range for what you wanted to play.
don't forget ps3 has a few dlc packs on sale til the 20th
* Rock Band Blitz - on sale for $5.49 (originally $14.99)
* Foster The People Pack 01 - on sale for $3.99 (originally $5.49)
* Lynyrd Skynyrd Pack 01 - on sale for $4.99 (originally $6.99)
* Linkin Park Pack 01 - on sale for $6.99 (originally $9.99)
* Nine Inch Nails Pretty Hate Pack 01 - on sale for $4.99 (originally $6.99)
* Foo Fighters Pack 04 - - on sale for $4.99 (originally $6.99)
* Ozzy Osbourne 8-Pack - on sale for $9.99 (originally $13.49)
* Def Leppard Pack 01 - on sale for $6.99 (originally $9.99)
Harmonix isn't like that, but I'm pretty sure there would be a technical/licensing problem that will emerge. They only signed the labels and bands for a video game series that specific to consoles probably only named Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Which doesn't cover Xbone or PS4.
I still play RB at least once a week with my roommates, it's glorious with the stage kit.
Also, if you can afford it I cannot stress it enough: get a MIDI drum set for Rock Band. It makes the game that much better.
also by far my flavorite non-party but fun multiplayer RB song
But I want cheevos, cards and backgrounds.
This is such bullshit. Those old fucks just hate kids who play video games and aren't active.
The reason I got into music was guitar hero and rockband, that's one of the motivations I had to learn how to write my own music and learn how to compose shit for full band.
Those old fucks are just salty that unpopular looking kids can make better music then them, fuck them.
Keyboard really isn't the same anyways, because it doesn't really let you use your thumbs and not actually having a turntable really isn't the same.
Try and find an arcade with it
Rock Band is safe.
Most of the music they licensed later on was for extremely long periods of time or forever.
A few songs/bands have been removed from the store though, like Metallica, Spinal Tap, Red Hot Chili Peppers and 2 Fleetwood Mac songs.
>new music from Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, and Foo Fighters
>never got around to importing RB2
Would any sites still sell PAL copies brand new so I'd be able to transfer the songs to RB3 (and RB4 whenever that comes out)?
I think it was called Amplitude. It looked like a clusterfuck. The only redeeming thing was they were considering getting licensed music for it, but even then I think it'd be too confusing.
Yup, you're thinking of Chroma. I was in the beta and it wasn't too bad, but it definitely needed some work in the balancing department. However, I'm pretty sure they scrapped it since they haven't said anything for a while
Amplitude is something totally different. The current one they're doing is a redux of a game that came out for the PS2 that they're making again for the PS3/4 because Sony owns the license.
It's also the tightest shit.
That kickstarter succeeded, right?
I know, I have GH5 and Warriors of Rock which I bought Sic Transit Gloria for right before the dlc shop was shut down. I just prefer Rock Band and want to see full album dlc for BN.
Honestly, Rock Band 4 would probably be the only thing that would convince me to buy a PS4/One. Everything else looks tempting, but they're all things I could do without. A return to that genre on the other hand, I'd welcome with open arms.
and I'd need a new system for it considering the Wii versions were really mediocre and I'd expect about the same for a Wii U version
You can always import controllers and pirate games.
I've got my guitar (or bass, what the fuck ever) and Rock Band 3 set up. RB3 because I've already got all the songs imported onto it anyway, but I can switch to RB2 in a second if we need to.
>mfw they completely fucked up the tattoo system in RB3
Like i said, i was around when Harmonix had layoffs, and they p much butchered like 90% of the team working on Chroma
You guys realize that there's a group of dedicated autists who have been releasing new songs for Rock Band 3 (as well as harmony vocal upgrades and a few keyboard upgrades to legacy songs) every week for over a year now, right? They recently dropped 80+ Genesis songs. Check out their catalogue. Lots of great stuff but watch out
there's like 10 fucking brony songs
I gotta say their chart jobs are fantastic. I've only played one that had issues so far.
>Linkin Park died out after Meteora
Consider yourself lucky you somehow missed hearing What I've Done over and over for a year or two.
smaller highways definitely makes it more difficult, but my band got to the point where it was painfully slow to play with anything less than guitar/bass/drums on breakneck speed. Just play faster speeds imo
>almost bought a Beatles guitar but decided to get GH5 and its fucking shit guitar since it came with a game
>have regretted it ever since
My strat is fucking ded. The blue and orange keys don't work and finding RB guitars that aren't trashed or fucking Wii ones is hell.
>like 10 fucking
nigga you don't even know, it's now closer to like 3 dozen
NightmareLyra is the total
horsefuckerwho charts like a good 10% of the total music on c3, and it's mostly the cringeworthy meme tunes
I also hate how that one guy just charts Queensryche songs and almost nothing but.
However they have put some excellent tunes on there, like some Kyuss, Evil by Merciful Fate, a few Silent Hill songs, King Crimson, some Zep, etc.
I loved Rock Band. Would really enjoy a next-gen one.
Activision really milked that series like a fucking cow.
RB did it right with DLC. Allows for longer dev time on new ones for graphical updates or anything really major that only a new game/expac would work.
I also liked how you could move the songs from RB1 onto RB2.
I hate this fucking game. If I didn't have so much DLC and money spent on this game I would've happily sold my 360 years ago. It's no longer a 360 but rather "the Rock Band machine".
But now I never can sell it. I've got too much happy memories with these plastic instruments. They take up too much space in my closet AND my heart. Fuck you Harmonix.
Please make Rock Band 4. And fuck you.
Would love to see Rhythm Games make a comeback so DJMax can get back on the radar.
