>>279755606 Yeah i fucking hated it too. Gameplay was fine, it was pretty fun (although it was too easy) but the story fucking killed it to me. I expected at least a bit of sriousness from this game, and the only thing i got was the true ending, which was nice. Aside from that, the technical inconsistencies with the times really made you question if the REX was so powerful in 2005.
Pros: >Base building gameplay >Portable size levels >Tons of hidden little extras >Building a metal gear >Story did some interesting things >Comic cut-scenes were p. cool >I liked spec-ing out for each mission. Stuff like choosing my weapons and armor loadout. Cons: >Aspects of the story. For example, it seems as though Snake has forgotten the entire ending of MGS3. In addition to this, it is never quite clear why he forsakes the Boss. >The grind-fest at the end of the game. Seriously fuck whoever thought it was a good idea to capture Zadornoff 7 fucking times or some shit just to see the true ending. I get about as hard for Metal Gear as Ocelot does for Big Boss and I didn't even plow through that field of feces and just watched it on youtube.
>>279758763 Yeah, let's sneak up on this jack ass that's the most dumbed down a.I in the series. Hold up, wait till he puts his hands up and on your way. What happened to the smart one that will fight you back after a while. The game was the worst in the stealth department.
>>279758763 >pulling the CoD kiddy card Come the fuck on.
>the game is not about shooting and running forward You could actually do this because PW's gameplay favored lethal tactics and the guard AI was garbage enough that you could just fucking run through the tiny stages anyway. CQC was overpowered and easy as hell so if you got close enough to the enemy you pretty much won.
Man, I'm actually attempting to platinum that fucking game. There are 30+ vehicle missions that are just slight tweaks of each other and you have to play them all at least twice. Once to unlock the other missions and special gear, then a second time to S rank with your grinded up gear. In total I think you have to S rank 160 different missions but the vehicle fights really sap the fun out of the game since the only way to S rank them is non lethally.
I thought Peace Walker was extremely fun and enjoyable. I really liked the mechanic of CQC being able to dunk multiple dudes at once, the taser being able to K.O people easily, of kidnapping enemy soldiers to fight for you, the customization aspect, the boss battles that were fun and you didn't mind replaying, the fact you got to build and fight your own boss, the fact you got to send missions out with your troops to kill more stuff to get more stuff, that multiplayer was fun, all of it was enjoyable.
>>279759521 >doesn't know how to go sneaky and non-lethal >says it's impossible to do so I never said it was impossible.
In fact, that's EXACTLY what I did when I played Peace Walker, because that's how I've always played Metal Gear. And every time I got to a boss I felt like the game was punishing me for going stealth non-lethal, because I didn't have powerful, lethal weapons to take out the bosses, because I didn't want to use them in the rest of the game.
And if I wanted those weapons, I'd have to grind my ass off replaying missions, beefing up Mother Base and buying upgrades and new guns. Which I don't want to do because the missions are boring and the gameplay is just a gimped, shitty version of the console games.
PW is trash. Deal with it.
>>279759653 When I finally played PW the general consensus that I saw was that the game was really good.
And then I played it, and it was trash And I said it was trash in MGS threads and people hounded me like I was a shitposter
>>279760150 >You could do this in MGS3 and 4, except it could be done during actual gameplay.
Peace Walker is obviously a portable game. Areas and missions were small partly due to limitations and partly because Peace walker was supposed to be something Japs played on the train to school/work. It's a pick up and play game.
>>279760367 Nah man, I finished the story mode like a week ago. I pretend to replay 1,2, 3. Peace walker was a drag and I don't like easy games. I suck at stealth, but I like the punishment of the other games.
>>279760549 >It's a pick up and play game. That doesn't make it less bad. MGS's formula doesn't fit "pick up and play."
And the PSP can go into sleep mode and resume the game right where you left off, so it isn't necessary that the gameplay be cut up the way it was.
There are all sorts of games on the PSP that don't choose to cut themselves up into small chunks like that, and it's wonderful. And if they're part of a larger franchise, they'll even keep the gameplay consistent (e.g. Daxter, KH Birth by Sleep, PSP God of Wars, R&C Size Matters).
PW is completely different from the other MGSs in all the wrong ways and there is no justification for that.
>>279761373 I buy that for all the torture scenes, this one is the only time it doesn't make sense. BB is alone with the computer; there is no one else there. The way he phrases the question seems to imply that he doesn't remember; rather than questioning whether or not EVA's account is true, he tells her she defected and asks if she really defected. It makes it seem as though his character cannot believe that the Boss would defect, and is looking for an answer as to HOW or IF she really did. However, he already has that answer from EVA. The way he is presented in PW makes it seem like he would be more than willing to accept EVA's account, lie or not, because he didn't want to think that she was a traitor. By accusing of her defecting while alone in the machine core, it implies that he thinks she really defected, but has his doubts. It would make more sense if he thought that she really didn't defect, but had his doubts.
It comes off as confusing and the interpretation is muddled as a result.
>>279761257 What do you mean with playing it to the deep? I finished the 'secret' ending and everything, I grinded, I beat the A.I bosses 3/5 times each... What else is there to do? I don't want to grind or play shitty hide and seek.
I understand that. But even ignoring the ability to change your loadout during gameplay, PW lacked the interesting camouflages that MGS3 and 4 had. I don't see why things like disguises couldn't be programmed into PW.
>>279761754 MGS4 was better than PW. The only bad part of 4, gameplay-wise, was the first part of Act 3. And even that was more enjoyable than the repetitive missions in PW.
>>279762149 I did play to the end. Just not to the "real" end. Because I'm not fucking grinding to get it. That's straight up padding. It's bullshit. 20 hours was MORE than enough of PW for me, thank you.
>>279761979 That's the point the game arrives at in the conclusion. However, at this point of the story, I believe Snake was still thinking in some pretty concrete terms.
I think PW had a great story, but this scene is something of a sloppy point for me. I agree with you for what the scene is trying to do, but I think that it was not written well if this is the message he was trying to send.
>>279762149 Yeah, it took me a week and a half of repetitive bullshit to finish it. The only parts the I liked was the peace walker battle 2 because it was a tight fit, but that's about it. It had no smart stealth, the bosses where bullet sponges (they're not hard, just 30 mins battling an annoying singing A.I gets boring) etc.
Octocam was good because it streamlined gameplay. You no longer had to pause the game to change camo. Sneaking was the same. I had no complaints with the Drebin shop, I just wish the M4 custom wasn't so damn broken since it invalidated all the other shit Drebin had in stock. Get the scope, the silencer, and the shotgun attatchment on the M4 to silently headshot everything. At least in Peacewalker silenced sniper riffles required dozens of hours of grinding and lethal snipers still made guys scream to bring up an alert phase. The B&B corps were good fights, particularly laughing octopus. Drebin telling us their life story afterwards was a real drag though, I couldn't care less.
A legitimate complaint is the gimped radio. There was no Sunny frequency.
I think the problem is you simply don't like Metal Gear. Before playing MGS: PW, I came from a long road of playing MGS games and when a got to that new world PW was I got excited as fuck. It got me till the end and beat it twice, once on PSP and once on PS3 with all the trophies just for fun.
>>279762829 >MGS games have a magic anti-casuals shield What in the fuck
>forcing yourself to play a game you don't like until you like it Sounds like self-inflicted Stockholm Syndrome.
I'll elaborate with the fact that I DID like Peace Walker at first. I thought the gameplay was an interesting departure from normal, and the whole "THE BOSS IS ALIVE?" had me wondering where the plot would go.
And as I progressed, I liked both gameplay and story less and less, eventually growing to loathe both. If I had only played 2 hours, my opinion of it would be better than I have now at 20.
>>279763235 What? I prefer 1 and 2 honestly, and I love mg because they're like timed puzzles, but PW had no real stealth sections. I think you're grasping at staws, anon. Just admit PW is the worst one in the series.
>>279763357 Lol, I do know her shitty background. Being the traitor of big boss and then wanting to come back to suck his dick all day erryday because i wubed im.She's the fucking cringiest character in the series
>>279763631 >I never force myself to play games This does not match up with >I used to think like you, but the game I thought those things about was GZ. I gave it a chance and played it to the deep You very clearly told yourself "I'm going to play this shitty game more" and somehow forced yourself into liking it.
>Once I see the game I know if it's gonna be for me or not. This does not match up with >I played GZ for like 1 or 2 hours and then stopped because I thought it was shit. You thought "this game is bad" And then later you changed your mind. Clearly you do not know if a game is going to be for you because you were wrong about GZ.
>>279763547 I've played every MGS tittle deeply and none of them has dissapointed me. I've been totally critic every time I played a new one and at the end it was worth it. You need to know how to like 'em maybe. I guess it's just a lack of hype.
>>279763552 I can't admit it was a bad game since it was totally awesome to me. In fact, thanks to it we are getting our own modifiable "Mother Base" on MGS5: TPP. It was the start of something really big. Half MGS: PO half MGS: PW.
What was the problem with the shop? I remember most weapons being cheap to buy and being able to enter codes to unlock some weapons. The bandana and stealth suit were the only items that required playing the game multiple times to get. It is still better than PW's system of unlocking blueprints and researching them.
>>279763942 Alright, since I can't make you feel what I feel and felt, it's hard to explain.
When I see a game and some info and gameplays about it, I know if it's gonna be for me because I feel terribly lazy about playing it. It never happened to me with GZ. It happened that I didn't like it because I thought it was some game Kojima made for the casuals. Once I felt like playing it again I came back for it, but never forced myself, I just saw it and thought, I feel like I want to play it again.
>>279764256 Then again PW was more about central base mechanics but this was done poorly with only progress screens. I hope in MGSV Mother Base development is a huuuuuuge thing and that full customization and creativity of your army is present. Outfits, base color, etc.
Is Kojima bringing back the army versus army thing?
