just pick one that looks cool and has full subs (warning: TVN is barely english, avoid at all costs) and go from there.
Just import Battride War II, it's alright. Make sure to get the TV sound version.
it's worth every second
>I want to start with the old series
here's what you do. Download W, then watch every series from then onward until you're caught up on Drive. I'd tell you to skip Wizard but you're already too deep I guess so whatever. After that, just look up all the different ones and watch whatever looks best.
Hibiki is a great show but it's kinda ruined by the horrible retool midway through that removes everything unique about the series. It started as an entirely untraditional Kamen Rider, with no actual Henshin sequence, bike, or even the bug eyes, and took place heavily in mountains and forests rather than Toei's usual stock filming locations around Tokyo. On top of that it was focused less on the superheroing aspect and more on Hibiki's mentor/student relationship with the show's real main character, Asumu. After the retool they made it a more traditional but fucking boring series.
Also you should just catch up with Drive, it's 17 episodes in and pretty great so far.
>discuss KR on /m/
>shitposters going on about how terrible showa is
>discuss KR on /v/
>shitposters going on about how terrible showa is, and claiming it's the objective opinion of everybody on /m/
I just can't escape it can I
I still see people saying it's amazing 11/10 must watch but honestly I think those people are just butcherfags that know nothing about the rest of the series. I'll admit in a more neutral place like /krg/ opinions aren't as extreme.
>there will never be a Super Hero Time as strong as Gokai/Gobus-Fourze-Suit/Smile again
Why can't Toei just go bankrupt?
Over-Time. Their subs are usually more accurate and better timed, and since they're working with KIT-subs, the folks who did the entirety of Kamen Rider Stronger, this season they've mostly been getting the episodes out within less than a day of the Japanese airing. TV-Nihon by comparison usually takes at least half a week and they're just kinda shit in comparison.
I've seen three types of people:
People who hated the first half but loved the second half.
People who loved the first half but hated the second half.
People who loved all of it.
Enough of the old series are subbed by now that you have a good selection. V3 even got localized in the west albeit on a very expensive DVD set and I don't personally care for the show. Rider 1 is about 40+ episodes subbed, Amazon is done, Stronger is done, Black is done and I think so is RX.
When I first got into Kamen Rider a few years back I took it for granted the original show was subtitled. I mean I had actually known the image of Kamen Rider for years before I watched it and just assumed it must've been done for a long while. I was pretty shocked to find there was nothing so I made the huge mistake of starting with Faiz. I'm amazed I ever came back.
The first Kamen Rider I watched, and one of my favorites.
I accidentally spoiled the ending to myself early on. I thought that OOO would be the only rider, since he was the only one present at the end of the Maki fight. When Date showed up, I fucking shit my pants. Alright, time to get to work...
Would Sun Vulcan be a good choice to bring to a group watch? I haven't seen it but I imagine how wacky it seems to be would be perfect for a bunch of people who don't really watch this sorta stuff.
Kuuga is easily the best of all time.
People who say otherwise haven't watched Kuuga.
Sun Vulcan is good. Depends how casual the group is. Sun Vulcan is a bit dated, after all. Kyoryuger is a good modern alternative since it has both wacky shit and hot blood.
Kyoryuger was great.
FUEKI DID NOTHING WRONG AND I WILL ARGUE THIS TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
Speaking of Sentai y'all niggas ready for Ninninjer?
MegaMax is the only good one.
I have a slight soft spot for Let's Go Kamen Riders just for the Double Riders but that's it.
Atleast you get to watch Agito now, which is also great.
And G3 is a fantastic suit.
>You will never be a Ninja Cowboy who transforms with a cheese slice shuriken sheriff's badge hidden in a hamburger, and wields a shotgun sword guitar
Sun Vulcan can be pretty hit and miss. They have some hilarious shit in some other episodes while ones after tend to be more grounded, but still wacky.
Akibaranger might be a better choice since its more modern and shorter.
Faiz may have a ton of problems. However the suits are fantastic.
Also I have the largest hateboner for this dude.
I think I realized something recently. How much I like the suits in a current (read: not something that finished before I started it) show is inversely proportional to how much I'll like the show by the end. Probably the only suits I thought looked good before I started were Kyoryuger and Wizard and those are by far my least favorite shows of the last five years or so. But every other suit has grown on me hard, even ToQgers.
That said I think those suits look awful, so this will probably be a good show.
I liked Heisei vs Showa
The plot itself was shit but the interaction between all the Riders was pretty good, especially Decade, Faiz and X Rider. And at least it had the balls to acknowledge the two eras would most likely not get along too well.
Out of date, but is this an accurate ranking of the involved characters?
>Gold with red white and blue accents
Man, If they casted a white guy to be him it'd be a 10/10 for me.
>being dom'd by Candelira and Wagon at the same time.
>Three Dinosaur - Zyuranger/Abaranger/Kyoryuger
>Three Ninja - Kakuranger/Hurricanger/Nininnger
>Three Car - Turboranger/Carranger/Goonger
>Three Animal - Sun Vulcan/Gaoranger/Gekiranger
Okay I'll admit the 100 years after movie was alright
And Luckeryo. Or however her (his? man I don't fucking now) name is spelled. I'd check wikipedia but every time I try for toku shit everything is just a mess I know is wrong so fuck it.
>Being dommed by Candelira, Madam Noire, Wagon, and mezool all at once
whoever actually likes Escape is a plebian faggot with no toku waifu taste
One thing I like about toku is that if there's a cute girl in the show there's a 90% chance she's got a photobook of bikini pics.
Its more like you have a set of themes and different directors will draw one out of a hat go "Hmm, yeah, I can make this shit work."
Usually its: Cars.
And then random chance for whatever.
And of course, sometimes you get tricky shit like how Cars will become Trains or Mystic also becomes Animals which is also Technology and what have.
Toku ones, yes usually. The Precure ones I believe it's been confirmed they try to only hire women so the illusion isn't broken.
>implying I still wouldn't a smooth Japanese boipussy
In the earlier shows maybe, but every Rider since Agito has had a partner or multiple Riders interacting.
Toei's got a hard-on for America this season, pic especially related
>Inspired by Evel Knievel
>Trained in America
>Frequently speaks in Engrish
>First transformation was a flashy affair where he brought out fucking red white and blue fireworks and a stage with an American flag pastiche background
>Mentor is a big, boisterous American biker professor named Harley Hendrickson who rides a Harley and speaks in EVEN MORE ENGRISH
I'm actually starting to feel bad for you Heisei fags.
The more you bitch about Showa the more Toei puts it in new movies and references it (Mach)
Ever consider your taste just might be shit?
I want to read shoujo manga with it so badly.
I know how you feel, but my love goes to Machine Chaser. I'm still pissed I didn't buy the Break Gunner while I did. All the fun of a transformation device and weapon in one package, with the best voice.
I hope to god his Rider upgrade suit doesn't suck.
I love the fucking design of the bottom of the suits' feet in almost every goddamn season of kamen rider i'd love to see that shits' footprint's in the low tide of a beach or something I've had a huge geek boner over their soles designs ever since W
Are you taking what I'd personally want to watch or what I think would make the most money?
Because for money it's gotta be Gaim. Those lockseeds print more money than the DS.
As far as what I'd watch then I don't know. I think Fourze would work pretty well, has a good universal message and story about friendship that could work well if given a proper adaptation.
>Best at anything other than fucking up
I kid, Tsukasa's great even if his show was shit.
Complete Form is a fucking atrocious suit though.
Where my Blade Bros at?
How many songs and references can you spot in this?
There are a few game ones. Specifically I can pick out Get down/geddan. And Miku's - he World is Mine
I loved Gaim. There was just something about taking a concept as silly as "fruit warlords" and making it into a fairly serious story about saving the world from an invasive plant life that just worked really well.
It's not a perfect show by any means, but it had me glued to my seat every weekend. I bought every single Lockseed and all the toys that used them.
Fuck Baron, though. What a shit character.
Jesus I've watched this video countless times and I never realized that there is a thing on the left with the name of the song. Fuck me. There is so much going on I never looked.
Its up to you. Kamen Rider is basically name of the Series but each Rider is different for each season of the show.
Each one has their own appeal, lessons, fighting style and general uniqueness to them but carry the moniker Kamen Rider.
Many will direct you to Kuuga and Double (I would as well) but if you wished, anywhere, sky's the limit. Hell, Sky Rider if you wanted.
BUT! And this is a huge But. DO NOT! Do not start with Decade or Wizard. One is spoilers and retellings and the other is, well its just low tier at best.
I think Drive could do pretty well with the whole LOOK AT THESE COOL CARS COLLECT EM ALL thing. I mean fuck, Type Formula's Trailer Cannon is literally a giant Hot Wheel gun.
>In electronics class building robots with my buddy
>Starts talking to me about this japanese drama he's watching, tells me that there's some time travel shenanigans involved
>"That sounds pretty interesting"
>School trip out of town
>"Hey wanna watch that show I was talking to you about?"
>Watch the first episode of Kiva on his psp
>"Wow this is pretty awesome"
And that's how I got into kamen rider
1. Kuuga (yeah they're both #1 don't ask me to pick just one)
3. Gokaiger (I'll freely admit I've never seen one before it, really need to watch more sentai.)
>sentai series i want to watch only has tv-nihon subs
I have a lot of other things to watch that I'm not gonna waste all that time on something I know I won't enjoy
other than the slow as fuck pacing and the meh tier support characters wizard is probably top 5 for me fuck you buddy
Best fucking main villain
well at least it isn't Wizard.
1. Double (W)
3. Faiz tied with OOO
2. GoGo-V (That fucking Opening Song, HNG! SO GOOD!)
Also, Ryouma was the best villain. Takatora was pretty bro-tier and watching Micchy go from best friend to scum sucking shitstain to unstable mess was intense. Props to Micchy's actor.
I'm gonna be friends with all of you shitposters.
Ryuki has some great suit designs.
>Start watching Sentai series subbed by Over-Time
>Realize they've only done a few episodes and there's no new batch coming for a while
>Only choice is to wait or put up with TV-N
Sorry man, that is just one stinker of a Rider for me.
he was good up until like the last 12 episodes where he went from "pretty decent anti hero" to "complete total edge lord who's basically a shin megami tensei chaos route faggot"
fuck him and fuck Yoko as well
Zack a bro doe
>that feel when, in some alternate universe, you are friends with Gentaro
Incredible, and you not only survived such an experience but came away enjoying Kamen Rider?
Ixa is awesome though, they gave the wrong Rider the lead.
Kitoaka really was the best part of ryuki
I think you ought to have watched some tokusatsu and/or have some concept of how it works before watching Akibaranger. Even just a little. Hell, doesn't even have to be sentai. If you've seen some Godzilla or Ultraman or Kamen Rider you'll probably get most of Akibaranger's jokes.
>the only nigga that didn't instantly forgive Shitchy
Zack is best rider
>no kamen rider/super sentai anime season
Garo is amazing so far
As I said I haven't seen anything before Gokaiger yet.
All I ever hear is people saying they dropped the show but I've stuck through it and thought it was amazing.
Like, Right just straight up becomes Ultimate Kuuga in the last few episodes, it's great.
Half the monsters in Kuuga
I think people reacted so well to Gaim because of the triple factor of it being better written than Wizard, it discarding the two-parter with two Rider format that the show had slaved itself to since W, and finally nobody had expected anything from a concept as dumb as fruit samurai.
No love for kabuto in this thread makes me sad
Back in the day they did some fucked up shit. Any episode that would do "Steal kids souls for fun and prophet" or just general "Everyone dies now!" episodes had some legit scary monsters.
looking at this thing made my skin crawl, also sucked out Hongo's blood
Isn't Battrider War 2 unplayable due to a bug that crashes the game each few minutes and some cahracters are even unplayable for the same bug?
I was about to import it a few months ago but the bug made me wait for it to be cheaper.
I feel like I'd enjoy Kamen Rider a whole lot more if it didn't feel like all of the costumes and props were designed with mass-producing marketed replicas in mind. Just look at the belts, they even look like shit you'd buy at a toystore for your eight year old kid.
One of the reasons Kiva particularly displeases me is for introducing me to based Otoya and then limiting my exposure to based Otoya.
>Oh, you want to enjoy yourself with this fun character? Too bad! Here's a Vampire NEET.
And don't get me wrong, Wataru could be interesting in small doses but the series focusing on him did more harm than good.
I've never heard of that and it doesn't happen when I play it so I don't know what you're talking about.
I saw some guy on /krg/ a few months ago post a version with the .ass files and the bunny hat raws put together for a much higher quality viewing experience. than what's currently out on MCS's website. Should be in the OP on there.
>they even look like shit you'd buy at a toystore for your eight year old kid.
that's sort of the point
>I, a grown man, can't respect this children's show because the designs are made for children and not for me
Kuuga and Agito had plenty of them. Though it was more what they did than what they looked like.
In Kuuga, there were two that used either a truck or a motorcycle to kill their victims. Because the attacks took place all over Japan, it sometimes took him a while to get there but the body count was already piling up.
Agito had monsters attack families in the daylight, in public places.
This is more of a problem with newer stuff. It's part of the reason why Kuuga an Agito are some of the best. Their shows weren't as much designed around selling toys. Later season became much more toyetic.
Well there was the time when Kuuga is scarier than the monster.
Anyone have the webm of Kuuga beating the shit out of the porcupine monster.
I agree with >>282829343 but BEST OVERALL girl is Akiko all day every day and I will FIGHT YOU if you say otherwise.
Not really. If that's what he wants he should watch Garo, or the older KR shows.
If you can't like KR for what it is, there are other options. But really you should just get over yourself.
I don't give a fuck they were obnoxious as all holy hell
both seasons were overrated and pretty fucking embarrassing and cringe worthy even for a parody series that basically tried to poke fun at the fanbase
yellow felt like that girl in school who does nothing but talk about anime and blue was just fucking there
red was pretty funny
>I think he just means that he wishes it could be a show for adults
Only that's fucking stupid and reeks of western neckbeards being insecure about enjoying superheroes and demand everything be run through a Nolan filter. You want to see 'adult' Kamen Rider? Watch those awful The First and The Next movies. Though it wouldn't surprise me if some Heisei fans legit thought those were better than the original series they were based on.
>You will never hang out with Date.
>You will never be Proto-Birth to his Birth.
>You'll never be a Kamen Rider.
Happy to bring the Toku goodness to more people.
This is true. Gaim is one of the best out of newer KR and one of the most toy focused. It's just when there is no writing or good characters to back it up is when it fails. Gaim was almost a fluke.
Go watch Shin then if you want Rider to be for big boys, ie the most reviled Rider production in history.
Godai was a cool guy
You could even say he was the coolest of cool.
I don't know what you're getting at here. While the old shows didn't have as much stuff to show off they were still very much about selling toys. That was the whole reason for the belts and whacky, over the top bikes. Just look at Amazon.
I've got too many screenshots of godai giving the thumbs up. I even made a dedicated folder just for them.
It's the same shit with Star Wars, back then the toys were just incidental to the main work, instead of being the entire point the work exists in the first place
I wonder if most Heisei fans who hate Showa prefer the prequels?
It's a kick starter fan made movie that tries to add nolan-esque elements to MMPR.
It's mostly hated by PR fans and I'm currently unsure if Saban gives a shit about this or not.
KR has always been about selling toys, this fact hasn't changed. But what has changed is how much these toy gimmicks are shoved into the story and character design.
The cimmick has become almost more important than the rider. Fourze switches, Wizard rings, Gaim lockseeds.
And then there is Kabuto's hyper zecter sword/gun. Worst looking weapon ever designed to sell more zecters.
There's always friendly Super Sentai and Kamen Rider generals over on /m/ if any /v/irgins want to find out more about toku.
No, Shin was a direct to video movie from the early 90's after the show's cancellation. It was made to reboot the series for an older audience that had grown up with the older shows and wanted a more mature Rider. It's largely reviled as being too dark and badly written, and the two films that followed it featured less gore and focused on more traditional Riders.
Kouta's goofy smile always manages to make me laugh.
Shin was supposed to be Ishinomori's original vision for Kamen Rider and for an adult audience. Even as far back as the planning stages for the original Rider it was actually supposed to be Hongo transformed into a mutant creature and wore the costume to hide his horrific figure but clearly that was scrapped. So along come the 90's and Ishinomori finally brings his true vision to the screen and it gets shit on by everyone, and rightfully so. He was so butthurt about it when asked to list his favorite Riders he put Shin at number 1.
I don't have as many thumbs up as I would like
How could you leave out these guys?
The zecters and the sword separately are fine, but god damn did it take me a few moments of staring at your picture to realize what it even was, and I've watched all of Kabuto.
full disclosure it's not 100% kuuga but most of it is
I'll upload it somewhere, if this thread's gone by then I'll post it in /krg/ or something
>all those spherical objects adorning it's body are ticks.
I love you
ZO was far more horrific than Shin was even with that tryhard henshin, Shin is just a plain bad fucking movie.
>all those spherical objects adorning it's body are ticks.
I still love these fruit designs. Kiwi is best armor, even if they barely used it at all.
I just want to replace drive with fourze
Don't get me wrong I like drive but I want Gen and Heart to try and out befriend each other
imagine running your hand all over those pustules encrusted on it's face
ZO might have had some scary monsters, but the film itself was nowhere near as violent or grim as Shin. It took the middle road between something more adult and the darker episodes of Black.
It also had some amazingly cool special effects.
man drive has alot of problems but I fucking love watching it alot more than Gaim
this is actually a lot smaller than I thought it was.
I wish Drive's other forms looked even nearly as good as Type Speed. Dead Heat is a fine premise, but the fact that it's just Speed and Mach's suits slapped together with a slightly different helmet kind of kills it. Type Wild doesn't look the best, and Type Technic looks like garbage.
Drive has a shit plot but its characters make up for it
Hey the more thumbs ups the better. Thanks anon
I started with gaim I say it help me into series a lot. You could try drive I like it a lot
Like I said here >>282832452
The plot is just an excuse for fights but I find all the characters even the villains very likeable
Really wish Rider had been running during the 90's. We could've possibly gotten the best era for the entire franchise.
Here are the shows that I think make good starting points, from the earliest show to the most recent
Kamen Rider (original), not fully subbed
Kamen Rider V3
Kamen Rider Stronger
Kamen Rider Black
Kamen Rider ZO
Kamen Rider Kuuga
Kamen Rider W
Gaim is pretty good and a lot of people like it, but it might set you up with different expectations for the rest of the series.
If you like one of those Showa shows, watching Amazon is a good second along with the other Showa era shows on the list. J is a good followup to ZO, Agito is a good followup to Kuuga, and OOO and then Fourze are good followups to W.
Well, better /m/ than /a/ crap on /v/.
Also, be careful about selecting subtitles. Some sub groups are worse than others. In some cases, TV-N is the only option, which is why I'm hesitant to put forward mid-Heisei shows as good starting points. Over-Time does good work on the recent shows, MCS did Kuuga I think (and ZO/J?), Kit-Subs did Stronger and are doing the original, V3 has official subs from a DVD set that was brought over. Gaim was done by Aesir.
I never knew I could get feels from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Just watch the series you faggot. That said the third movie Kamen Rider vs Ambassador Hell is awesome and has almost everything you could want from Kamen Rider in general even behind the scenes, Fujioka's leg injuries were continuously bleeding during the fights on Mt Fuji so he duct tapped them and carried on filming.
