How do you guys pick your weapons?
I want to know!
You play every 1* training mission and figure out which weapon fits your individual taste and playstyle. You use that weapon, maybe pick a secondary to mix things up every now and then.
Just be aware that if you pick LS, everyone will hate you and no one will want to hunt with you.
Reminder that I would pay Capcom money for what is nothing more than an upscaled port to the WiiU for 4U.
All I want. I'm enjoying it as it is, but I'd enjoy it tenfolds on the big TV with a pro controller in my hands.
I couldn't get into Monster Hunter until I just went with the standard Sword & Board.
Being all up in the monsters face (feet) rolling like a madman just made the whole thing click for me.
I also like the lance because countering is fun and makes me feel like some kind of badass.
What is this?
Where's the "I have only chosen Lance since ~2005 and I'm not stopping now" option?
0/10 strawpoll, would not vote
pic of the Nerscylla set
You don't really want status GS.
It hits too infrequently to make use of the status.
You might get the status to activate once, where as something like duals or SnS will get it to activate twice or more.
See that is exactly what I was talking about in another thread earlier.
The MH devs are stupid for making so many weapons flat out inferior to the raw options. Greatsword for example. Status GS will always be absolutely inferior.
And I don't get it. Why waste resources and time making these weapons when you don't want anyone to play with them because you make raw so much better?
anyone have any more helpful maps like this?
>mfw I got 10 of them from 2 hunts and I will never use them
Element can be okay, just make sure the monster isn't resistant to it.
Status is not good for GS unfortunately. I wish they just changed how it worked for such slow weapons to make it better
I haven't played MH seriously since FU, so I figured I'd jump in with a new weapon. I liked the CB's look and style so I went with that. Right around village 2* I thought to myself "I wish I could just draw into the overhand axe strike". And that's the story of how I found out GS is my favorite weapon.
I've heard hubub that due to changes in the weapon damage formula that elemental damage is more important than it was before.
But status I think is still non-important unless you're running with a team devoted to one status.
>not into furry at all
>not into scales at all
or so I thought
why boner? please post more steamy rathian sex.
(are there sad pandas out there featuring this?)
I choose a weapon I haven't used in previous game.
Freedom: Sword and Shield
Freedom Unite: Lance
Tri: Switch Axe
P3rd: Gun Lance
4U: Great Sword
use primarily sword mode on slower enemies, and primarily axe mode on faster ones
learn the attack-morph chains, they save a lot of time
use the discharge, it comes out immediately after a double-swing using the sword and deals lods of damage
use the overhead swing finisher after a hack-n-slash, hits like a motherfucker
>This time, I will use a new weapon and stick to it
>I will stand true to this new weapon
>And not givFuck that GS time.
I can't drop you my weapon.
I can use everything to a reasonable degree, but only GS makes me that comfortable.
Is AUGE the inspiration for Nerscylla set?
...I swear I tried that and got nothing. I'm gonna have to revisit that.
Either way, I just used GS up to HR and I love it. I don't know what they changed between FU and now but it's so much better than I remember. CB is my 2nd for sure though.
>needed to get 2 Tailblade for the Zamtrios armor
>none of them drop even when I break every breakable part
>final time hunting Zamtrios
>mfw 2 tailblades drop
took me forever but I finally have the sexy Zamtrios armor and cool triple axe hammer
>bring two cats along because why the fuck not
>they dissapear for a while
>a minute later they are on a fucking tank fighting the monster
A lot of practice and learning where they jump.
And aim where they go instead of where they are.
Prediction is a large part of the GS, and that really only comes with time.
I remember back when I tried to kill a kelbi for my first GS hunt.
Couldn't hit the damn thing if I tried.
I go for which ever looks fun.
At the moment, I'm hopping around the Heavy Bowfun, the Insect Fun, the Great Fun, the Fun-mer and the Bow (which is fun).
At the moment I'm learning the Funlance and am going to give the Fun-ting Horn a go afterwards.
I'm progressing slow as shit but I don't mind.
he's classified as Amphibian, like Tetsucabra
>Capcom MonHun team offices
>sir we finally finished designing the mechanics of that shark monster
>it says here its amphibian
>MAKE IT INFLATE AND SWALLOW YOUA
>Glaivebro at the front not having any of this shit
I just finished making this little nigga's final form.
>killed LR Gore for first time
>got 2 plates
>other times nothing
I'm using the IG and the CB because they're the new weapons. And from what I've played, either I'm playing the IG all wrong or the CB is strong as fuck because I'm killing monsters with the CB nearly twice as as fast.
I made this set last week.
I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong here. I'm about to time out on the quest and I still haven't found the last coal I need. I'm just supposed to be mining nodes, right?
>mfw fighting shaggie maggie for the first time
the fight just got progressively less fun, fighting gore was much more fun in comparison
>Do Dahren Moron urgent for some guy
>Host drops halfway through boat phase
>The rest of us fuck Moron up so hard that he dies outside the zone borders and we can't carve him
Still got a jewel out of it so I'll make a set from it when the better rath plate droprate shows up like I assume it will in HR
>Meownster Hunters are three Felynes with the original armor sets they used to wear from FU and P3rd
Oh my goodness, it's too adorable.
I fucking love the felynes. The cat puns. The everything. It makes me laugh.
Those fucking sounds when the chef prepares your food
The cowardly felyne in the beach town made me sad though.
It's not complicated at all
Just hit the monster while jumping off a ledge, either by rolling at the ledge or sprinting at it. That might knock it down and cause you to mount it.
Then there's a QTE where you hold R while the monster's flailing and mash buttons when it isn't to fill a bar up.
Not as perfect as Guild Sweetheart
First, I try them all one after the other. If one seems particularly shitty, I will read a weapon guide to make sure I'm not missing anything. Then, I will look into endgame viability for each of them. I will also consider what weapons pair well with each others, and how well they stack, so I'm fitting a party role that's in demand.
Not really, I do none of that shit, I just pick the Hammer because fucking Hammer, that's why.
Once I finish the Village quests should I make shitter weapons and armor to start fresh for the Guild quests or just get together with /v/ and bumrush through LR?
Do any of the cats make that long drawn-out meow that they did in FU?
>fighting a nerscylla in an expedition with hunting horn
>dodging attacks and smashing heads, doing pretty good so far
>suddenly it jumps straight upwards out of the area
>The monster has fled
>didnt even crawl to another area or show any indication of swinging anywhere
im pretty sure the bitch just jumped straight into space. i just got out of there at that point, straight to the tavern.
What's the best way to make money? I need to get 40k for my high rank armor and I'm broke.
>First Palico I scout outside of the forced one in a Congalala mission is a Stealing forte
>With the Rath-O-Meow team attack
Cat voice 1 is the old cat voice, so it does.
no, i stay faithful to the best girl
Top tier. Her giggle makes me giddy.
I think I found the problem. It seems that only the nodes that initially spawn can have coal, and I took too long getting to the node in area 7 before it despawned.
That's some shit game design right there
Whats the most entertaing creature to fight and why is it the Kecha Wacha
I know LA has gotten a bad rep for years but holy shit, Cuck Blade users are tripping me more than I've ever been tripped before in 3U. Long sword users are alright this gen, it's the Cuck Bladers that are scum right now.
I'm only a beginner and I fairly suck.
That being said, I'm having a blast with Insect Glaive and the Charge Sword (or however the fuck it's called), How are they? Not that I really care, I just ask out of curiosity
>Fighting a Rathalos using a weapon that has sleep on it
>Surprise, it puts him to sleep
>As I"m about to set up some barrel bombs next to him a Rhenoplos comes and headputs him and he wakes up
Fuck Rhenoplos. Worst monster in the game by far. Always fucking charging when you're in the middle f something.
Because the verticality of the fight, i love being able to jump at the fucker in the tree's and knocking him down , very unique design and overall looks like a crack binged monkey and fox had a rape child
I just can't handle Rathian.
Never could in the past games, never will be able to.
Her fucking retarded ass charging always fucks me up because of her leg or chin hitting me or some shit.
Just be aware that your attack can trip up other hunters, be aware of your spacing when hunting with others and aim to cut the tail if it has one.
I used it when I first picked up monster hunter as well.
>Fighting Congalala in the new jungle area with all the bones
>Get him limping in Area 5
>He starts limping over towards one of those pillars
>Get an idea
>Run over and climb up as fast as I can
>GS air attack
>Actually connect with Congalala jumping away from the area
>It wasn't a death blow
you're not screwed in the slightest. It's a great weapon to learn as it reks shit regularly. also please do yourself a favor and ignore the shitposts about this weapon. this is repeated blabber by people who have no idea. I'm not even using LS but I want this meme to die. It was put into the world by butthurt lancers during monster hunter's early days.
I'm actually kind of confused about how the glaive upgrades work. Like, I've given nectar to the insect and the bar is at its maximum, now I only have to evolve it )provided I get the right materials). Does that 'upgrade' the insect and therefore the weapon as a whole?
my first weapon in an earlier title was also the longsword. great weapon to get comfy with and very versatile as it reaches high and wide if needed. I haven't actually played it myself since my MHFU days so the new stuff they added in during 3rd and 4th gen are really interesting to me. definitely gonna give it another swirl in mh4u
LS gets shit because of online shitters hitting others, making them trip
you can play however you want in offline but online you have to watch your mates
check out other weapons too
i mean, why the fuck not
just have fun, doodle
Are you seriously complaining about not getting any in your second or third hunts when you got 2 flipping plates already? Do you think plates are handed out like candy?
Thanks I had no idea I could trip people online.
Speaking of online, what's a good time to get online? Should I get online as soon as I can? I just completed that first big hunting quest and just upgraded the LS to Bone.
I have no idea how online works in this game. Everyone gets his personal quest/buffs and everyone goes off adventuring together
I picked GS early on and im enjoying it, is it a decent weapon? i enjoy it because im usually the guy who gets the finishing blow or chops off a monsters tail or some shit
also (and this may be me) but it feels so satisfying to slash into a cratures weakspot and keep hacking at it
Yes. Purely cosmetical (sharper textures on n3ds) and technical (stable FPS on n3ds, even with 4 players and 3D effect turned on)
source: I got both systems and have an hands on comparison
>Kill 5 different monsters during an expedition
>A new guild quest has been added to the pool
>I didn't kill any Kut-Ku
I've been maining GS since the gore craft is my strongest weapon, but I'm confused, what's the point of GS if hammer does it better? Is it just for the limb cutting? Will a tail not fall off if you hammer it enough?
Online can happen whenever you feel ready, but if you're new I'd suggest going in with a group of people who are willing to help you out and cover for you as you learn.
Most people wait until they feel comfortable with their weapon and armor before jumping online since they don't want to fail a quest for others (3 strikes for all 4 players).
But online works quite like you'd expect. People bring their own weapons/buffs/items and go off hunting together.
why does this track remind me of rune factory 4 / harvest moon so much?
that being said, it's best guild hall theme yet
Hey guys, I need some help. I've done every available low rank quest, including the urgents. However, I only have a silver check mark on 6*, but no one in any village has any yellow bubbles above their heads. What do I do? I wanted to do all the low rank quests before going into high rank, but if that's not an option I can deal.
GS does cutting, Hammer does impact.
GS can cut tails, Hammers can KO.
They are like two sides of the same coin, both are slow heavy hitters, but both can do stuff the others can't.
They do work really well together though.
The Charge Blade is what you'd think the Swaxe would be like
In reality the Swaxe is incredibly braindead and very easy to use. It's two weapons with no complicated things about them mashed together
This is the first time I've played any decent amount of time on a MH game (I played MHFU for like 2 hours maybe). I tried out most of the weapons, but the Charge Blade just hooked me, the ability to guard and have okay mobility along with the switch to a lesser greatsword/hammer for KOs is awesome.
I also Hunting Horn for hammertime buffs.
Previously I had only used Lance and maybe SnS or LS.
You basically need to follow these steps to get gud:
Open your 3DS fully
Move your head 90° to the right
Slowly put your cheek onto your opened 3DS, specifically onto the facebuttons
Continuously wiggle your cheek, and move your head up and down repeatedly
Continue doing this for 5 minutes
7. Profit! Monster is dead! Good hunt!
>play LR online as hammer user
>cutters huddle around the head and constantly trip me over
i think low rank online is good
you get to know how it works but fucking up isn't that punishing
add at least one person who knows his shit and isn't a dick and it's a good entry for beginners
>fight a black gravios
>have fun with it
I don't understand
>Mfw playing online and everyone has Nerscylla armor and is using the charge blade
I feel like I'm the only person using a sword and shield and Kecha Wacha armor.
If this happens to you, you're allowed to play your almighty
"GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY FACE"-card: super pound these bitches away and keep doing it until they learned their lesson
Pick the weapon you think is awesome design-wise. All of them are good, some are harder to use but you can kill everything with all the types (except Sword and Shield, don't even try, waste of time).
Watch some tutorials on YT, some weapons have hidden mechanics behind them.
I can't help you with armors because that's a pure preference choice.
Also - you WILL die a lot. Get used to that and keep trying (and keep fucking dodging/blocking)
people should stop saying this. there is a "Noob" filter when you're searching for a party and it's not like LR requires some absurd amount of skill.
just play online whenever you feel like it, try your best and have fun. who gives a shit if you accidentally trip some random and they get mad and shitpost about it?
i'm working on my velocidrome and kut-ku gs but i started with 3U
what does it mean?
What is the deal with Yian Kut-Ku, anyway? I'm one of those people that started with Monster Hunter Tri, so I'd never fought one until MH4U. Honestly, they just felt like generic bird wyverns with extremely basic attack patterns that, on very rare occasions, shot an extremely inaccurate fireball. It was probably the most boring hunt I've done so far.
Not that I dislike them, or anything, I just don't get where the obsession comes from.
What a piece of shit list of choices. I choose based on playstyle. I either want light mobile shit like SnS and DS or enjoyable large weapons like Switch Axe or Charge Blade. I don't' like Hammers or GS because they feel like one trick ponies.
YKK is love
YKK is live
YKK is the monster, that introduced the oldschoolers to the way of Monster Hunting. That is: take your time, plan your attacks wisely, and get the fuck away from that tailswing
MH1 had no proper hitboxes for these things heck for everything
I didn't wanna fight him because he looked so damn curious and friendly in his intro. If he didn't see me as someone who meant him harm maybe we just coulda played tag or something.
So I'm getting MH4U saturday. I'm playing the 3 to pass the time and holy shit, did the difficulty ramp
>win against Ceadeus after a lifetime of murdering Lagriacus for armor set + Twin Arcus
>suddenly high rank
>just a poisonous one, should be easy
>took me over half a fucking a hour to down it.
Also, I needeed like 10 fucking Whetsones to make it through the fight, guess it's update time
>a monster for inflation fetishists
>search beehive during expedition
>get kut-ku scale
You have the soul of a 1st gen hunter.
For me it was from all the way back in the PS2 game.
Up until that point you've fought Bullfango, Velociprey/dromes, kelbi, just a whole lot of weak stuff. And since it was the first time you had done any of this, you started to get a swelled head.
Then Kut-Ku shows up.
This stupid looking pink chicken.
And he kicks your ass 7 ways to Sunday.
Eventually you git gud and beat him up, and you learn that he's easy peasy in the long run. But he was, especially back then, the quintessential tutorial wyvern.
Nearly all of his moves and tells were repeated somewhere down the line in other stronger monsters.
So that's where the love comes from, from him teaching you the game.
Alright, I'm desperate. How the fuck do you get Chilling Beaks? I've broken the nigger Najarala's face every single time and after ten hunts I get fucking nothing. All I do is poke it's face with the Lance, but it hasn't broken twice if that's what I'm missing.
Help me please ;_;
Just moved to the second town and I still haven't really picked my weapon. I keep switching between GS, Hammer, Charge Blade and SnS. Sometimes I even use LS or SA. They are all just too much fun, but I have to start picking one soon.
this thing genuinely feels retarded
>spits water/ice 24/7
>I stand behind it all the time, whacking away til it dies
>can't ever get hit, since he just spits his shit 180° in front of him all day long
what the fuck mang?
>A Treasure Area will show up in the next Guild Quest!
I remember reading that it is a curious creature and that it means no harm unless provoked
that and the fact that the tetsucabra purpousley cools its enviroment so that toher creatures live make me feel kind of bad whenever i kill them
either way i fucking loved this thing, wish i could buy a figurine or plush of it
>beat Shagaru Magala without carting
>mfw finally High Rank
FINALLY. I was getting tired with how shiteasy Low Rank was. Now I just need to find a new set of armor for guard lancing. Barroth is starting to show its age.
Here's something for if you want to use a random weapon:
I miss the shakalakas because I actually liked their little ooga booga chatter and Fluffy Mask Cha-Cha was the most useful thing ever. But it's nice how your palico companions can actually do some damage.
