When was the last time you raged at a monster? Did any manage to really piss you off?
Also Charge Blade is the noob weapon for those who want to do well even without any skill just by mashing
Not really pissed but Seregios has been beating the crap out of me.
Triple carted twice and double carted now that i finally killed him.
Raged: First gore fight. Virus as a gs user is a nightmare and he kept bouncing me into walls and comboing me.
Anyways, post hunter name and cat names
And worst hunter name you've seen online
Did you do the giant Nibel in the arena?
>tfw no small/silver/gold crown monsters found yet in 4U
Can someone explain how exactly weapons like Blood Cry work, that have status ailments on them? First I thought it dealt raw damage first, then dealt "Sleep" damage to their so called "ailment meter". But then I heard that the Sleep [number] is actually just raw bonus damage that also can cause Sleep status ailment? What?
Cat's name is Dante
I've seriously played with someone name "LE-GAMER XD" if they weren't decent at IG I would have kicked them. Also, are there any real downsides to IG and CB?
after going quite a few times in story, i've found about 10 crowns, most gold, maybe just 2 silver, from either big or tiny, i got a golden tiny narjala, that was... something
From what I know it's basically like status weapons build up a hidden "meter" on the enemy monster with every attack you do and once it's full they become poisoned/paralyzed/go to sleep etc.
Every successive meter after the first takes longer and longer to fill I think.
And then it also depends on the monsters resistances. Some are easy to poison and take a lot of damage, others not at all etc.
>stay up til 2am grinding bnabras in A. Steppes
>its a total bitch because there are only 4 in the zone and i have to use a poison bombs
>not dropping any carapaces despite 45% drop rate
>spend another hour and a half absentmindedly grinding
>nothing, getting frustrated, look online
>realize carapaces only drop in high rank
You might have to start from scratch then.
The bottom one is clearly farther along but you can see how many points get wasted going into elements if you aren't using pure stats.
Your beetle should turn into a moth too. Spec in speed first and once you reach a comfortable level in speed, put it in power.
I'm not sure what the fuck Stamina is for.
>Doing final quest in the Egg Carrying questline in Caravan
>Okay get three eggs, probably have to fight a Rathalos, easy.
>It's both a Rathalos and a Rathian, both frenzied
>Stick to each other like glue, keep fucking me up, cart once due to getting full combo'd by the two of them.
>Okay ignore the sidequest let's just get these eggs.
>First egg is hardest, have to wait until one of the fuckers leaves the nest to get a chance to nab it.
>Second one is easy, though they blocked the direct path from 3 to 1, don't see either of the dragons.
>Thinking to myself I would hate it if they put up a rock between 1 and 5.
>They do. Also both Rathalos and Rathian are hanging around in 5 and refuse to leave.
his smile and optimism gone.jpg
I never knew I hated Khezu so much until the
>hunt 2 frenzied Khezu
>nail down one enough to capture it
>trap it and throw one tranq bomb
>right before the second tranq hits, get thunderball'd by the other khezu
>get hit and the Khezu breaks free of the trap
Was still able to capture using another trap, but
GOD DAMN FUCK KHEZU'S BULLSHIT
>When was the last time you raged at a monster?
>hinting for Shaggy tails
>cut it but can't carve on the spot because explosions
>can't find the fucking tail anywhere because it's too fucking small
So does the "Sleep" also damage the monster directly, or is it just counting towards the ailment meter? Aren't status ailment weapons super shit then since they deal noticably less damage and most monsters wont have time to fall asleep and shit?
>You'll never chill in a mountain hotspring while a cat manservant brings you drinks.
I love 3U and 4U, but I miss how comfy 3rd felt.
How is it ironic?
To kill shit in a timely manner with GS at least you need to have some skill.
With CB you don't need any, you can literally just hack away and mash and get record times.
But hey, keep telling yourself you're super good at Charge Blade
>Unlock HR village quests
>Everyone telling me he's spooky and he carts people
>Never get hit really except by an unlucky water spray with which he started walking sideways
Should I even bother with HR village or just go for gathering hall quests?
Charge axe is probably the most complex weapon in the game, what.
Also if I end Seltas Queen High Rank via subquest do I have the chance of getting the S Queen Substance (the like 3% drop)? It's from breaking the head, and breaking the head finishes the subquest so...
I just don't want to do this shit a million times.
>fucking around with guild quests without upgraded gear
>chasing a velicidrome from one end of the map to the other
>he carts me
>get back to him
>he rats away
>go back to the only other area he can spawn
>run back and forth for 5 minutes
>finally shows up
Ragers gonna rage. Probably people who are asspained over the fact that there's something new and it's actually good. NEW THINGS CAN'T BE GOOD! THAT'S NOT THE MONHUN WAY! EVERYTHING HAS TO BE LIKE THE MEDIUM BOWGUN!
It never occurred to be until now, but I always picked the cheesiest weapons in every MH.
>GS/HBG in MHF2/U
>Lance in MH3
>Autoguard gunlance in MHP3
>Trying to learn chargeblade now in MH4U
I don't even mean to do it, I'm not a MUST WIN faggot, it just happens.
Just got this game, help me name my hunter, /v/. No joke/meme names, thanks
>Charge axe is probably the most complex weapon in the game, what.
99% of the people using it don't make use of all its intricacies. They just attack and mash away and still perform extremely well. That is the problem.
>with GS at least you need to have some skill
Hey guys I can critdraw dodge and sheathe!
Its a super deep and totally unpopular weapon!
Let me guess, you're one of the people that talk about the charge blade but don't know anything about boost mode, guard point, when to super rather than ultra, why shield thrusting is good, etc etc.
sleep is goat since it multiplies the damage of the attack you wake up the monster with
I was scrubbing it up with CB, now I've started to learn its intricacies, but I still prefer the normal burst attacks compared to the one you get from charging shield and full charging again
I guess it feels like it does more when every hit of that combo is followed by an explosion
The shield charge super AED explosion is godly though
Still can't into guard points though, I can never use them effectively when I need them
Just keep going man. You knew what you were doing and didn't get carted. Don't start doubting the game yet.
Protip: You don't need to use guard points AT ALL and you will still get insane kill times with Charge Blade.
THAT is the problem. The weapon gives insane performance at a very low skill floor ALREADY. Get it?
So I'm enjoying hunting horn but is there a way to cancel the combo for the encore and just play the second song?
>21 queens for a single extract
I understand you, chillin beak anon
>Anons calling out someones preference of weapon
I miss old monster hunter threads
Is this the MH4U thread?
Oh well, whatever
>Doing the Gargwa egg quest
>Second Gargwa I kill drops a golden egg
>Carrying that shit back to camp
>Have to stop running because stamina
>Jaggi sneaks up behind me and makes me drop the egg
>cap the first one super fast
>second one decides to be a piece of shit and sidestep all over the place, sidehopping away from my shots and generally playing keepaway as much as possible
>end up taking another 15 minutes to kill the fucker
God dammit that was annoying.
Gathering Hall quests are fucking retarded. If you don't play online it's just unbalanced since it's meant to be played with 2 or more people. Sounds like that difficulty is pretty artificial to me.
Protip: Do not go into a egg quest without being heavily prepared.
Slot the decorations that let you carry shit faster.
Eat a meal that gives you felyne supercat.
Take some mega dash juice with you so you don't ever have to stop running.
>tfw you find a weapon that just clicks. The moveset, the abilities, the weapon style, everything.
Have I found "the one" /v/?
What's your "one"?
My only problem is that CB just gets way to fucking much.
It's cutting, with ridiculous potential to KO with impact phials, all on top of a heavy hitting weapon with a guard then when upgraded in lance-like. And it's still mobile.
To me it doesn't have any drawbacks.
My real cat's name is Meow but my palico's name is Maou
Thats why those ailments are considered support roles.
A weapon with paralyze will mean you do less damage, but everytime you paralyze 3 of your allies can go ham on a monster and easily cut his tail or break a specific spot.
I never said I have trouble doing it. It just takes longer for no reason other than being a set scale rather than scaling off of the number of players.
Yes, it is retarded. It should scale to the number of players playing. If there's 4 then make it harder.
It forces the player to be more careful. Hunts arent meant to be quick in the later game. Theyre fraught with danger where one hit will eat half your health. Prepare, git gud, and quit your bitchin
Once you get to G-Rank, you'll get the challenge you've been deserving, anon.
My fucking nigga. DB is just so much fun. Although I find myself using CB more since I want to practice with it. Getting guard point down in boost mode is so satisfying. I'll probably use CB throughout LR and then go back to DB and CB HR.
>My only problem is that CB just gets way to fucking much.
That's how I feel about IG's buffs. Attack, Defense, Speed Up, Earplugs AND Tremor Resistance? Whose fucking idea was this?
Fucking shit. This means that the Kecha Wacha longsword I had used to deal way more damage than Blood Cry. Now I have to grind and try to find another weapon that actually deals more raw damage again.
Serious question, why the hell is Nintendo pimpin out monster hunter 4U so badly? This isnt really a casual friendly game. Zelda I get, ties nice with the XL launch, but Monster Hunter? Id imagine youd want to promote a game your mainstream audience will win at.
Not for something I don't want to fight. When I was farming Nargacuga back in MH3U I loved it, but Seltas queen isn't very fun IMO.
And that's why I'm wondering if the concentrate is able to be gotten from the subquest. I would think it is, since you can end via subquest and it ends up in the wounded section for breaking it's head.
It's the largest game series in Japan
This one is made with America in mind as well
Its much more user friendly than 3u
It came out alongside nintendo's shiny new n3ds which is actually pretty not great as an upgrade and has no games.
Because the series still maintains a hardcore reputation despite not being anywhere near that now.
Any mongoloid can blunder their way through the story quests and get carried through online too
You're forgetting that CB will have already dealt a lot of damage while getting those phials going
CB is just too good period, it needs to lose that K.O. and the numbers on the damage need to be toned down a little bit
Havent put much time into 4 but been trying to unlock G-rank on 3U and I've found that joseph son of satan is a dick
>Carted 3 times all because he managed to get his grab move off on me
Fucking hate those grab moves
>Virus is a GS nightmare
>Go hit it like 6 or so times anywhere
>Suddenly free 15% affinity
Also cat name is Kuu after a cat in FU that had a bloodlust against Monoblos.
I guess Charge Blade is the most difficult. It requires an incredible amount of skill, awarenss, tactical planning, coordination, patience and moving around.
That's why it's my favourite weapon. It's satisfying to hunt monsters with something that is not as brain-dead as GS and a Lance.
>Hating one of the simplest monsters to fight
>it's weak to fire
what the hell guys
Your options for poison lances in MH4U are Brasarios/Gravios and Yian Garuga. Have fun.
Or at least diversify the phial types like swag axe, so users can pick and choose what they want to inflict instead of relying solely on knockouts or boosting their element damage.
>tfw no sweet Gigginox/Gobul lances anymore
they fuckin took away all the best-looking ailment lances
Because (this isn't well known) but the CB is a self insert Deviantart weapon that one of the developers had made prior to MH and they didn't care about balance as long as it got in.
>Want to use hunting horn because it's most useful
>Want to use Switchaxe because it's most fun
The Basarios/Gravios line is gotten early in the game but it looks pretty boring at first. It gets better.
Well SA had the same problem in Tri. It had Para, Power and element phials, that's it. It'll get more diversity next game.
>Still playin 3U as well
>Unlock Mark of the Hero today, decide to try it after hearing so many things
>Get carted when I tried to heal while Ivory Laggy was all the way across the map in attack cooldown by it rushing up, knocking me down, and then hitting me before I could do anything
Yeah, no. Is it even possible to do this quest without G Rank equipment?
Hey you guys I'm gonna be playing some HR3 in a while and I'd like to get a group for it, not starting just yet but I'm preemptively posting my steam name here just in-case you guys want in, plus Steam is another place to talk whilst we play MH I guess.
>My weapon is the strongest, best weapon
>My weapon takes the most skill to use
>My weapon is the secret meta but only I know how to unlock its true potential
Its like /mhg/ is filled with that one kid who wouldn't stop bullshitting.
I can see it already
"Hey guys remember how I helped you with... ... and you said you'd let me make a weapon for the new MH?"
"Uh.. sure.. let's see it"
"Okay! Be ready! So it's this basic sword and shield right, but suddenly KAZOOM you get a huge fucking axe that morphs out of it kind of like switch axe but even cooler. So anyway you can load up these phials and then buff your damage hard with them, also the shield will be as strong as the lance shield. I was thinking about how cool the GS charges are so this should have a mega high damage burst too..."
"Hey, calm down, that's enough for one weapon"
"...and it will be able to K.O. monsters with ease too. Also while doing your charge attacks you should be able to guard at the same time so u can get them off lol. It's like the ultimate weapon! :D"
So say I'm playing online with some friends and complete a gathering hall quest that I haven't unlocked yet. When I do unlock it will it already be completed or will it have to be done again?
What's the point of these threads anyway, OP? 99% of posts are children arguing whose weapon takes the most mad skillz to use and 1% is actual content. The old MH threads will never return.
Yo guys! sorry to just jump in to whatever discussion you are having but I dont want to go to the general or make a new thread.
What is the concensus on weapons this time around? Mostly a solo player here, playing only with RL friends on occasion and wondering on what weapons are fun.
I liked the Hammer and Dual blades in 3U. Are they just as good as before? Planning on using them again.
Wanting to get in to a ranged weap this time too, any recommendations? Preferably one that is decent in solo, as before I found them better suited to coop.
But yeah, just made my characters and did the introduction before I needed to recharge my 3DS so trying to look up some shit before I get dug in.
Kept myself in the dark, was hype as shit getting to design the cat. Also dat male smug face with the blade of grass in his mouth.
We'll see. Capcom should be more open to the idea of balancing weapons with patches but then I guess they wouldn't have selling points for the next game
source: your ass
you are SO mad right now
pls respond. I tried messing with my wifi settings it still kicks me out of games.
>Capcom should be more open to the idea of balancing weapons with patches
Didn't the japs have to buy this game like three times similar to the street fighter nonsense?
So this is the definitive and most balanced version of the game?
>play freedom unite by myself
>don't get too far but know what I'm doing
>play MH4U with some friends
>they're constantly berating me for shit I do, from how I attack to the items I use to the equipment I wear
are MH fans just elitist fucks or am I really unfamiliar with the game? I managed to beat lao shan lung last I played FU and felt like hot shit.
your gathering hall ranking is kind of different from your village one.
Nerscylla will be an urgent quest after you do some quests on HR1
Also I get kind of confused with the labeling since they're marked as HRx but they're technically low rank, right?
You're fine, there are just a lot of people who care about maximum efficiency over anything else. Stick to what you have fun with, and find like-minded people to hunt with and you'll enjoy the game more.
Some weapons got the new, useful moves. Right now I'd say every single one of them is viable, most of them are fun (except SnS and Light Bowgun, but that was always the case).
Just don't use the fucking Charge Blade, shit is broken and should be balance patched because the damage and versatility are off the scale.
Sort of, the G version is sort of like a cross between GOTY version and an expansion pack. Just because it's the 'definitive' version doesn't mean everything is as polished as it needs to be.
anyways CB was utter shit in vanilla MH4, but in 4G it got taken to the other extreme, where it's amazing in unskilled hands and the slayer of worlds in skilled hands.
5th gen or next game will probably iron out the kinks though, personally I'd like to see them put more emphasis on skillful blocks.
>unlock volcano map
>it's just a recolor of sunken hollow
why do all of these maps feel so flat compared to, say, FUs?
climbing the mountains in FU had a sense of height to it, but MH4s maps all feel flat with little ledges you can jump off of, that's not 'height'
MH might not be for you then. You really dont get to what I would call fun until like 4-5 hours in. At least thats how it was for me. Up until then it was just meh. Not bad, but not really good. 4U is a lot quicker though. I got to the fun in about 2 hours.
I just now raged at my fucking bug on my bug stick
Like really nigga, how fucking hard is it for that fucking bug to fly forwards when looking uphill? The stupid fucking bug just acts as if it hit a wall, so getting any buffs from a monster who's next to the loading zone and standing up hill is impossible. FUCK THAT STUPID FUCKING BUG SDJFSDJOFJSDOFJOSDJFDSOJF
I admit I'm not completely invested in the story after the previous games were nothing more than 'you're a hunter go hunt things', but I still think these maps are boring as shit.
I started MH3 a few days ago, half way through 3 star quests. It's weird, it's really, really, grindy, but at the same time it's quite rewarding.
I constantly feel like I'm going to get over it soon as it's just getting 'harder' to get new equipment, but somehow I'm becoming more accustomed to doing runs for resource points or potion reagents.
The difficulty is interesting as well, I'm definitely getting better but when a new big mob comes about, it's this weird hurdle, you've just become comfortable farming the last one, then this one comes around and fucks your shit for a little while.
I really admire the "preparation" between each hunt though. Sure it's a little annoying for EACH large quest, but it makes it so much easier and makes you feel like you've done really well.
I just hope I don't get too sick of grinding, I've unlocked a few things to help my potion making business, but always running around looking for specific drops and googling everything might become too much, I'm not sure yet.
I'm just surprised I'm still playing honestly.
> using bombs
Hah. It's like saying "My weapon sucks ass so I have to support my hunting skills with explosive barrels. But I'm still not going to admit that SnS is the worst weapon in the game."
Because rocking edgy wing scarf gore armor and a skull tipped lbg makes me giggle.
I only do it to fuck around helping people with one star quests I stick to boring Velociprey armor and my trusty gs when I'm doing my low rank hr grinding.
Neither do I. It's not hard to control the camera. Learn to utilize the lock-on feature and when to adjust your camera.
>Join a room
>NP, I'll do a quick hunt and wait
>10 minutes later they finish
>Do one hunt with them
>Everyone leaves after
Does no one stay around for an hour or so? I hate lobby surfing.
>Also Charge Blade is the noob weapon for those who want to do well even without any skill just by mashing
I disagree. You're a hypocritical cunt. Switch Axe Greatsword and Hammer are just as "simple" and "easy" as CB.
>using charge attacks
Hah. It's like saying "My weapon sucks ass so I have to support my hunting skills with charged hits. But I'm still not going to admit that gs is the worst weapon in the game."
it's okay. Boring but works.
People will probably rag on you for not using the cooler Charge Blade. Which is fair because Charge blade IS cool. I love watching that shield roll out.
Depends on my hunting partners.
If at least 2 are good at chatty (as limited as that is) and everyone is willing to do quests I need done if I do theirs then I stick around.
If even one person is complete shit I leave.
Or if they only want to grind one thing and it's not what I'm grinding.
Im getting it constantly as well. I mean my router is on the other side of the house sure, but I have never lost signal on any other wifi device. Im gonna try UPNP.
With Longsword, you probably want elemental since you'll be getting a lot of hits in. So you're gonna be making multiple longswords for different monsters to exploit weaknesses
Usually when I go online it's to do at least 4 or 5 quests, so I'm in for 1 hour or more.
Maybe you're just joining when they're tired, but most of the time people will only be 1 or 2 quests.
remember everyone is not a non-casual
Im not here to preach about using items as a crutch like /mhg/ would, but attributing bomb damage to the damage of your weapon isn't really logical since anyone can use them. Sure SnS can use them faster, but anyone can trap and bomb.
Not enough moves to do, feels a bit slow
Landing the spirit slash combos is really fucking hard sometimes so I have trouble getting to red gauge swiftly
I don't like its shield, don't want to be a bomb spammer
WHETSTONE WHETSTONE WHETSTONE
Too easy to play, huge delay after some attacks, it's okay I guess. Not too fond of most of them visually
Eh. Not bad I suppose, really hit and miss with the designs. A bit support-y
Not a whole lot of moves (normal poke/upper poke), nice countering mechanic though and backhops
Pretty slow to move about with this, other than that kind of fun but you have to be quite precise with your pokes
Decent but very simple, cool designs though
Quite OP so I don't want to use it, way too extreme
Bugs are gay as fuck
>[insert ranged weapon]
Lol yeah right, not with these controls
Gunlance will also get better with Artillery skill.
Make the Seltas armor and become a gundam.
>hitboxes aren't being bullshit
>steve isn't running off like an asshole and grabbing you in a hitbox that shouldn't exist to pull you with him
Meanwhile in Gore, tigrex, Gravios and gypceros land they'll run off in a line while you were behind them and you'll get get hit.
All the cool stuff I need is on the next map for me though, and I'm not sure which hammers I should be upgrading and shit :(
Also that qurupeco was the most annoying cunt to fight with the hammer. Constantly bouncing off his arms when trying to do combos. Ended up just spamming the neutral charged hit.
It's definiately not the distance issue since my router is 1 meter away from my 3ds, on my desk. I have UPnP enabled. Well, sucks to be me.
How can I neutralize the effects of over saturation?
Using sleep weapon solo means you should be bringing barrel bombs. It's a pretty common strategy for DS and SnS users to bring a bunch.
Blood Cry is a pretty decent LS line since it gets a lot of sleep element. If you bring barrels then you can easily destroy any specific part or just drop them near the head and fuck shit up
I have it set because I like grinding hr1 quests and some players honestly don't know not to fuck you up if it's their first time playing online.
I have "let's cut the tail" set for the same reason
I don't really like CB though.
I want a nice, fast and fluid weapon that can deal a flurry then get out.
Be real, how does SnS stack up to other weapons in terms of viability?
Oh yeah? I might have to try this.
Currently playing with GS too.
I still love Monster Hunter and I know I'm not the best. I main hammer so I know I'm not the fastest thing in the world. I don't even fault the game for having fast monsters, but any monster that jumps around like a bitch really fast pisses me off. Quite satisfying to ko the bastards though.
I can imagine a lot of new players being carted by gyp, especially with that strong poison later on.
>mfw my Tri only friends run to carve it when it plays dead
I have noticed it with rathian sometimes. I forgive it since her tail is usually close to the ground though. Gravios' tail is so high up I can't hit it half the time even with my upward swings, there's no way his shit should be hitting you.
Gravios also has a bullshit hitbox on his hipcheck too. You can be standing to one side of him, while he hipchecks to the other side and still get hit.
>mfw I needed 1 extract and carved 3 in the same Queen.
The RNG is going to punish me later, you'll see.
>unlocked guardian armor
>oh shit I gotta get that, this will look so ballin with my CB and dat artillery's not too bad either
>check mats for full set
>dragonite ore x10, not bad
>15 fucking pinnacle coin
>9 bird coin
>10 beast coin
guess I better recruit some pubbies to help me farm it, doing it solo with the shit gear they limit you to is painful
Playing MH3, How's the Hunting Horn?
I like the hammer, and if I was playing online with friends I wouldn't mind being able to back off a little and 'support', but how does it do for singleplayer?
Also how does it even work? I just know "support version of the hammer".
>mfw baiting people into hitting it and then pulling away a second before it attacks
>Seeing people actually fall for Gyp playing dead
It never gets old.
Though there is that odd occasion when you are fighting two monsters with one being Gyp. If you kill Gyp first you don't get a "1 monster left" message or any "quest complete". So you're just left standing there for while awkwardly trying to see if it's a corpse or not.
more like a faster version of hammer with buffs
backing off isn't an option, every time you decide to play the notes you get to do a powerful attack into your wicked solo
basically it's the more offensive version of hammer if you don't play like a gigantic pussy
I hope that my cat doesn't break the sleep? Is there some general rule how long sleep applying depends, though I guess its dependant on the monster.
Cat names: Named after my IRL cat, Escuincle
After the first time it doesn't (shouldn't) work on you because you know he pulls this shit
I always AED spam him when he plays possum, but I'm not actually sure you can kill him while he's playing possum
>Just discovered the three levels of "charge" or whatever the fuck they are on the longsword after 6 hours
Shit man now we're getting it done.
The chance for it to happen is there, but MH3U was really good with your minions not waking the monster up. There's a brief window from when sleep activates to when the monster can be woken up. It last long enough that your cats should finish their move up and then stop attacking.
Can someone explain charge blade to me because I really don't get it and I'm the kind of person who likes to understand something thoroughly before I try it out.
What I don't get is the whole phial thing, in particular the option to charge the shield. What I've gathered so far is once you have 5 phials, you can either
A) use them to turn your axe into a kind of gunlance, or
B) Charge your shield and make the axe more powerful, but lose the gunlance explosions
and why once you've done either you don't remain in axe mode 100% of the time to take advantage of the buff.
When I played 3 and 3U the rule for switch axe tended to be stay in axe mode and switch to sword for when you're going absolutely ham. But people seem to be switching between the forms at a whim and I really don't get it.
Please can someone help me with that ? I dunno if I should get the mohran SnS or the Mohran CB
Sorry, but people figured it out anyway, I was confused earlier too while browsing wiki's, but whatever.
Ooh, this sounds fun as fuck. I'll look more into it, hopefully I unlock it soon. The mobility of the hammer and strong attacks are so rewarding, but fast fuckers are so annoying to hit.
The defensive hit and run is nice but an offensive variation could be fun as fuck.
>tfw was going to name my cats after my irl ones but the one died before I got the game.
Pour one out for the fallen
anyways, what's the most obnoxious armor/weapon combo? I wanna carry lr hunters past 1 and 2 star with something silly.
This is monster hunter. nobody gives anything for free here. If you get lucky, it's because you're going to get fucked.
I fear a lot the day I'll have to start making my final IG
>Can't pick multiple
Goofus uses one weapon all the time, Gallant has many different weapon types.
>bow has more votes that HBG and almost as many as HBG and LBG combined.
using the axe attacks drains your phials so you have to manage them a bit better instead of going all out and wasting your charge
you should always be boosted because it gives more defense on the shield and you can perform some special skills with it
It doesn't have the highest damage output, but its got good versatility especially in multiplayer. You can throw around traps and bombs like they're candy and pull off clutch lifepowder saves like no one's business.
>Get Lv3 charge on horns
>Start up smash
>Whiff the lv3 because Zin jumps back
>Follow up for shits and giggles
>Hit the charging Zin in the face and stagger him
>While facing the other way
I'd love to say it's all skill.
But it's luck.
But man does it feel great.
Years ago in freedom unite.
I couldn't beat chameleos, I couldn't deal with the invisibility+constant weapon bouncing+constant wind pressure. I came the closest I've ever come to breaking a console, almost smashed my psp
Thankfully I've gotten gud since then
So I want to avoid being a CB noob. Other than Guard Points, what do I need to know?
Like, what should my general strategy be? My first priority is always to charge my shield, but after that I dunno, I get caught between charging more phials and wanting to abuse that 20% Axe attack buff. And while speaking of the Axe, is it better to blow whatever phials you have if you get the opportunity, or hang onto them to do a super/ultra? Is the Axe's X combo ever worth it? etc
Enlighten me /v/, since you shit on CB so much surely you know how it's supposed to be used.
>can't use weapon because people don't like it
Dude, fuck the vocal nigs. One of my friends hates it when I use the Switch Axe, but does that stop me from unloading a Axe-mode X mash after a good Flash Bomb?
Not really arena rewards, but all the mats except for the ore can only be gotten from grinding arena. definitely PUG those, they're boring as fuck with the premade clown armor sets and shit weapons they give you.
HR/G hunter who looking to hunt Jho/get the drink foodie quest done?

You can charge up your shield with any number of phials (1-5). The higher the number, the longer the buff will last, 30 seconds per phial. The buff upgrades the shield from a GS block to a Lance block and adds a bit of extra damage to axe mode.
Phials can also be used in axe mode to add extra KO or elemental damage to the axe attacks. 1 phial per attack. You can also consume all phails and the shield buff to unleash a super one-hit attack and that attack will be stronger depending on how many phials you have filled.
When you attack stuff in sword and shield mode your phials will turn yellow and then red. they will not be filled until you hit a button combination to fill them and they turn white again, but full. If your phials are red but you dont phill them you will get "charged" and your attacks will bounce of the enemy. so u have to make sure you keep converting that energy or you get fucked.
Charge slash -> shield bash -> charge slash for quick red
Then immediately load phials into shield -> shield bash -> cancel AED, shield is now charged (also this is a guard point)
Charge slash with sword mode until at least yellow and load phials
Now focus on abusing guard points and counters, whilst keeping your phials loaded and shield boosted
I'm Running HR 5 key quests! Lets move on up together
I just got to rank 4, should I get an armor from ne of the previous monsters or is it better to craft something from a new monster ? Would it be a waste of time to get an armor from rank 3 quests ?
I've made it to rank 10 with SnS and I'm beginning to have a really hard time (ie, 20 mega potions and 2 carts epr mission) but so far I haven't fought HR magala and I think the inability to upgrade my weapon is seriously lowering my game.
What are some other fast, mobile weapons? Is lance any good?
>Advanced: Frenzied Zamtrios and Lagombi
>Lagombi is limping before it even goes frenzy
>it's still weak as shit
Why does this fucker in the game but not Arzuros and his sweet mohawk?
>deliver wyvern egg
>start heading back to the nest to grab another
>GIANT FUCKING BOULDER OUT OF NOWHERE BLOCKING THE PATH I JUST TOOK
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bExPiggI1qQ So fucking good
What the fuck is the spacing on the ultra burst? I cant consistently KO the monster with it. Do you want the final slam of the blade to hit the monster's head or do you want the lingering explosions which are a little farther forward to hit the head? I mean GH said that shit does like 700 KO so it should always knock out a monster, I just cant hit the damn head consistently.
as a long time gunner since freedom i don't see how HBG is cheesy at all in FU. sure they are powerful and wreck shit with the right skills, and even trivialize some fights. but you mess up and you get your shit wreckt so you need to know what you're doing.
i also don't think everyone knows about keeping proper distance to maximize damage.
1. Always be boosted
2. Your shield burst and blocking with the shield while boosted count as using a phial explosion without using up a phial
3. Learn to guard point for more chances to attack and free phial bursts on the head
4. Axe mode is mostly for the super nuke when a window allows or for chaining the 2nd and/or third phial burst swings when the opening allows.
People switch between them because you're much more mobile and able to get hits in using sword mode, then they'll switch and use a phial burst or two in axe mode whenever they can. Someone with a status CB should be using a fuckload of shield bursts since you can use it after any normal sword swing
Velociprey is literally the best armor for lr and you can get it right away.
Make whatever you want until late high or g
Just get full sets and gem something useful don't play clown armor yet.
it depends really
sword mode is good for building up your phials but also good for getting in a few hits here and there
you can combo into axe mode, that does a good bit of damage and does great damage when boosted
your bread and butter though is the AED combo, but you can skip the smaller hits and go straight to big finisher by pressing X+A while in axe mode
you can also do X > X+A > X+A to attack once, shield bash, and then combo straight into super aed, it's the shiield charge combo but without the L to actually load the charge into the shield
There's a big spot near his head that you can destroy and show a massive weak point. You can also break through the mane thing just behind it and get to other gathering points on his head. dunno if there's another weak spot over there
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. So basically you go Sword mode > 5 Phials > Upgrade Shield > Sword mode > 5 Phials > Switch to axe till the phials are used > Sword mode again?
Honking horn. Free buffs. Can get rid of annoying shit like roars and wind pressure with their respective songs without getting armor for those skills. Wonky attacks that take getting used to but once you have it down slamming heads while facing backwards and KOing shit feels amazing.
So I'm new to the series, just got to Harth. I'm enjoying myself so far and find I like the Longsword and S+S a lot.
Should I be finishing up all the quests in a set before I move on to the next one?
Literally any of them.
They're all easy to learn.
They're all good.
They're all fun in different ways.
The game starts you off with one of each weapon - try all of them and find the one you like best, then learn it as you go along. /v/ likes to pretend that their weapons are super complex, but the truth is they're not. A beginner can be fine with anything so long as they enjoy the weapon.
I'd enjoy CB if it wasn't so over the top MEGAMORPH flashy and if they toned down the numbers just a tiny bit
