>>284018915 This. New Vegas is the same. It was a horrendously broken mess at launch. How come Obsidian gets a free pass for releasing unfinished and broken ganmes that need mods to be good yet other companies that actively fix their mistakes are never forgiven.
>>284014382 the game was pretty good, except the ending ofcourse. i sort of prefered kotor though, mainly because i was annoyed at kreia being such a shitty character and the added forces and such felt useless
>>284020356 the way she spoke her the way she carried herself her manipulations of others her manipulations of you how she centered her manipulations around you in a clever way. how enigmatic she can be her plan how she breaks some characters by simple words and lies
she is just a well-crafted character. she is pretty full of herself, but not in a comical way, just in a way that a woman who had seen all sorts of fucked up shit would feel so right.
>>284020734 her manipulation of me was the thing that annoyed me, she was so obvious with her things and still my character couldn't see it. it was just so obvious it wasn't funny, maybe it would have made a difference if i would have played some sort of max-int/wis build, never tried it though
>>284014382 I am always surprised to see the majority of people on /v/ love this game. I was so excited for it as a kid but even back then i thought it was exceedingly disappointed and i remember being downright mad about the shitty ending.
>>284021052 people on /v/ always say it was incredibly obvious. I didn't think it was obvious what she was planning at all.
Like of course it was obvious she was simply using everyone for your benefit or some alterior motive, they literally show you the cutscenes of her manipulating you. It still doesn't subtract from the narrative imo
>>284021271 When i played it when it first came out I was the same. now I appreciate it much more. It's not perfect by any means but the story is well thought out and connects to the wider scheme of things with kotor1
plus the combat is just straight improved from kotor1
>>284021370 No i played it right when it was released on Xbox as a kid and havent touched it since. I replayed Kotor 1 a year or 2 back and enjoyed it all over again but never went on to 2 since i remember thinking it was terrible way back when
>>284019151 lucasarts made them push kotor2 out the door so it could go on sale for christmas. obsidian is also widely known for working with no time at all. they got 18 months for fnv, 12 months for kotor2. if you want to dog them for an unfinished game do it for alpha protocol which they have admitted time and again was a clusterfuck.
>>284021052 You can push her on it though. You all but straight out say "So your Darth Traya, what's the deal with that?" and she responds by telling you that this isn't the time to go into it, because it would end badly.
Yes, you can't then choose to chop off her head, but keeping the most important character in the game in your party is a concession that needs to be made.
>>284021271 it was better in every way compared to kotor1 and written light years better. the ending was shit, but thankfully they left a whole bunch of shit in the gamefiles and modders restored a bunch of shit. kreia/traya is one of the best characters ever made.
>>284020509 >i would have wanted some sort of plot-twist instead of her being so obviously the "bad guy" They did the whole shocking plot twist thing in KotOR, doing it again would have been retreading old ground, and have gone against everything the story was trying to do.
Also, Kreia isn't a "bad guy". You can argue that she is morally unjustified, but she is never a villain.
Kreia is the defining character of the game. Her philosophy is far more interesting than anything else in Star Wars because it requires you to think about it more. I found Bastila to be more annoying than kreia
>>284021370 >>284021481 >>284021718 >>284021728 Brotip, it's called TSLRCM. Get the version of it WITHOUT the droid planet. The vast majority of the stuff TSLRCM adds was stuff from the disk but the droid planet was clearly unfinished, required a lot of amateur work (including voice acting) to "restore" and significantly changes the events of the vanilla game, unlike the rest of TSLRCM.
>>284026915 >they are another case where its "okay" to release buggy games. Says who? Bethesda get slammed for releasing buggy games. At least they make their own shit though, instead of just recycling what other companies have already made like Obisidishit do.
>>284027682 It's not often claimed that Obsidian are good at making gameplay, its all the other stuff that goes into a game that people praise them for. It's why their games are usually "fixed" via mods prior to people recommending them for play.
>>284027921 Obsidian made FONV and as Black Isle made FO2.
Obsidian are making Pillars of Eternity and as Black Isle made Planescape: Torment.
Obsidian made Mask of the Betrayer (as well as the OC and the amazing Storm of Zehir) and as Black isle made the Icewind Dale games.
Obsidian made Alpha Protocol and as Black Isle Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance
Obsidian made KotOR II with a massively different approach from KotOR and as Black Isle helped Bioware with Baldur's Gate II.
Black Isle was to make several games before the studio went under including:
Torn (you are a hero cursed to be accident prone on a cataclysmic scale).
The original Fallout 3: Van Buren
Baldur's Gate III: The Black Hound
Obsidian is simply a successor studio that has pursued the sort of projects they've always worked on, and many of the games they were handed to work on like New Vegas were handed to them because they had something to do with prior entries in said games or single handedly put certain studious on the map (Bioware) hence KotOR II and NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir.
>>284028393 >>284028393 >kotor2 >neverwinter nights 2 >fallout new vegas All games that continue projects heavily influenced by the same people who are on the Obsidian staff. They ARE working on their own shit, they just dont hold the property anymore because loleconomics.
>>284028393 you . . . do realize they were given the fallout nv project because they made fallout 2 and were involved in fallout 1 even though they didn't make fallout 1 right?
you . . . do realize kotor 2 was given to them because they published bioware games as black isle and helped bioware out with their early game right?
you do know they were given the nwn2 project because again bioware owed their entire existence to black isle right? black isle was responsible for several d6 crpgs long before nwn1 ever came out, being handed nwn2 was because they are exactly the sort of studio that makes that sort of game in an era that everyone, even bioware, were moving on from them
you do know whether as obsidian or black isle theyve actually worked on their own IPs right? as black isle they closed before Torn came out but it was their own original concept and alpha protocol and pillars of eternity are also their original IPs
you do know who obsidian are right? theyre black isle by another name.
>>284028820 Why should I care that much about a developer that has yet to make a good and polished game? It's been over 10 years and still Obsidian fans are eating up all the buggy, unfinished games by Obsidian. When will you people wake up and say enough is enough?
