level endurance to 40. Google what every weapon you pick up's scaling is, and level up the appropriate stat. I recommend Balder Side Sword and Great Scythe for Dexterity, and any Black Knight weapon for Strength. Keep your shield up at all times. Wear the heaviest armor you can while still maintaining a <25% equip load. Get Havel's Ring. Get the Drake Sword, but don't upgrade it, and ditch it when you find something that scales with Dex or Strength like I said before. Attack things right after they attack you. Hug boss butts.
>>284027095 Did you literally not read a single word after that? I said don't upgrade it, and ditch it as soon as you get something better, but it kills just about every common enemy up until Blighttown in one hit. Fuck off with your shit.
go to the wikidot wiki. read up on weapon scaling and shield durability, and then go play around with weapons until you find one you like. drake sword is a crutch and doesnt scale, get the claymore off that bridge instead of fucking around with that dragon, it's a much better investment of your time
anyone who tells you to go in blind because that's part of the experience is top tier retarded
>>284026705 Well, it's a trial and error clusterfuck, dying is a part of the gameplay (which is a stupid idea), you're basically "supposed" to die and walk the same 10 minutes paths over and over again. Second playthroughs in Souls games are easy as fuck because the trial and error is gone and the enemies barely have any moves or something that could be called an AI, though.
6/10 game in my book. Never got the hype. Probably casuals who just feel cool playing it.
All these faggots telling you to google shit and use wikis. This how you fucking dildos "git gud"? Holy shit. OP you are supposed to be overwhelmed it's part of the experience. Learning your way through it. Check the wiki... jesus christ. What a joke you faggots are.
>>284026992 That's the most beta, playing it safe, boring way to do the game. Don't listen to him OP, almost any weapon is viable in this game just level according to the scaling of any weapon you pick, when left to choose between leveling up and leveling your weapon go for weapon, read the description of the stats the game will tell you a lot but you have to read and experiment.
>>284027382 you're telling somebody on their first playthrough how to play like the biggest casual in the world and half your "advice" is just telling him specifically which exact weapon to use because you saw some epic youtuber say it was OP it's not even good advice, he doesn't need fucking 40 dex, that's like half the leveling you'd do in the NG just fuck off, before you ruin hia game with your shit
>>284027578 >tfw Anor Londo archers >their arrows push me into the opposite idrection my characters looks, not the opposite direction the arrows come from which would be physically correct >that disgusting second half of the game 70 % for me.
>>284027916 Maybe he doesn't like mediocre games? If you want challenge, weighty combat and actual fairness, he can just play Monster Hunter 4U which is actually good. Or Platinum games or actual fighting game, although they rarely feel weighty.
>>284026992 >Get the Drake Sword, but don't upgrade it, and ditch it when you find something that scales with Dex or Strength In the time it takes to shoot the tail off you can get through undead parish and reach Andre.
>>284027864 Maybe he doesn't know how to do that. By googling it, maybe he'll come across it. You fuck. Maybe some icons with some letters next to them don't mean anything to somebody who says they've 'never been more overwhelmed in their life.' You fuck.
>>284028017 >>284027578 Does anyone have the webm with the guy blocking that hute motherfuck "Taurus" thing but fails at blocking that manlet knight because... reasons? This game has the worst kind of trial and error I've ever seen in my life.
>>284028116 I didn't know about the weapon until my second playthrough, and it made a short section of the game a lot easier to do. Sorry that I used a weapon that the game fucking lets you have. I didn't mean to offend you.
>>284026992 Thanks, I heard VIT and END are best and RES is shit.
>>284027068 I heard master key was bad for first time players because you're likely to end up going to places where you shouldn't go.
>>284027214 I went in knowing it wasn't going to hold my hand but I didn't realise it was to this extent. I find an item or some shit and I have no idea what it does. I light a bonfire and there's all these options that I don't know what they do. I can't even pause the game and I don't even know when the game saves?
>>284027314 Yeah, fuck going in blind. I don't know what the fuck is happening. I'm going to read a bit more before I play.
>>284027331 Controls are okay so far. Where to go is confusing. I keep getting raped by some skeletons in a graveyard, so I guess I'm meant to find another way.
>>284027407 How do I know what character I want to make? I don't know anything about the game.
>>284027578 Seems that way so far but I'm assuming it gits gud as I git gud.
>>284027817 >just level according to the scaling of any weapon you pick, when left to choose between leveling up and leveling your weapon go for weapon Don't even know what this means.
>>284028204 We're dealing with somebody who said they have never been more overwhelmed in their life. A little tiny bit of hand-holding for somebody who wants to play the game doesn't affect YOUR single-player experience at all. Go play it yourself if you care so fucking much.
>>284027578 >that ugly faggot twisting the bridge I'm walking on Yeah, sure is fair. No character in the game even is animated in some way and they're all shady "kekeke, it's dangerous" faggots... but of course I should have been able to see this coming without signs left by others.
What makes the game so shit in my eyes, though, is the pseudo non-linearity. Kinda like Metroid Prime but worse. There almost always is a right way and a wrong way, if you walk the wrong way you'll just end up facing enemies that have a higher "level"than you or, well, a dead end. There is no point in playing the game non-linearly, so why even designing it this way?
>>284028292 Saying that the physics in this games are retarded is bait now just because your "I suck at every PvP game in existence but at least this From Software kusoge makes me feel hardcore" shit gets criticized?
>>284028317 Well in my opinion saying "Yo you can press this button to get more information on the game mechanics" is a tidy bit of hand holding. Saying "yo if you're struggling go to this website to learn every secret the game has, it's the way it's meant to be played!"isn't.
>>284027941 I honestly meant end but typed dex, it's actually a bit less stupid to level 40 dex than end on your first run, maybe I was subconsciously giving you too much credit. My advice is you play as you like, the -/-/-/- letters in the weapon screen mean scaling with stats, you should figure out how to kindle and you should never listen to morons who read a guide and are now trying to make you do the same cookie cuttter playthrough they did for some inexplicable reason.
>>284028273 Never, ever level up RES. VIT and END are ok to put random points into if you aren't working towards a weapon. Weapon scaling works like this: some weapons have a letter next to stat requirements, for example the claymore has a "C" in both DEX and STR, meaning it gets a good chunk of damage added to the base from both your DEX and STR. Just bumble through the game and don't worry about much. The game autosaves every time you kill something or sit down.
>>284028425 Why would you want all that cheap trial and error, the faggot who twists the bridge, that lava monster that shoots its fire shit through mountains, the Anor Londo archers shooting you off the roofs with unlogical physics, attacks that you can't block for some reason, some magic orbs that you can't block and so much more to come back? The game is terrible in the first playthrough. Only the second playthrough where said trial and error is toned down is slightly fun.
>>284028228 then why are you forcing a neat little secret weapon you didn't even find at first, on a first time player, what's your malfunction? tell him how to klin-skip too, we wouldn't want any exploring or actual playing to happpen
Honestly, the biggest reason not to use the drake sword as a new player is that it has no scaling and is a bitch to upgrade compared to regular weapons. You think a new player is going to put souls into str or dex when they're weilding the drake sword and won't see a damage increase when they increase a stat? No, they're going to put it into vitality or something, and then later on when their drake sword is shit, they won't know what to replace it with because they haven't learned the upgrading system and don't have the str or dex to pick up something useful.
Truth be told though, there are way more reasons than that to not use it.
>>284028715 >Implying dying in a game is a bad thing Especially in a game that gives you infinite lives and NO downside to being undead outside of you can't summon help for shit. At least Demon's punished you by taking half your health, and DaS2 did the retarded thing of taking bits of you health after each death, and apparently you can die several times and still get your souls back from the first time.
When's the last time anyone or anything trusted you as much as this game? Now go. Go enjoy it. Check the wikis if you get too confused or lost, but I advise you try to stay as in the dark as much as possible. What fun is exploring when you already know what's there?
>>284029062 if you're human, you can summon players and npcs, but you can also get invaded by them just having soft humanity in that upper left circle gives you better resistance and item drop, but it's not really worth spending maneetes for that since you'll probably lose them
>>284028348 >DaS >Linear Maybe on your first playthrough without knowing how to face certain enemies. I hate DaS2 for it's horrid world design where things to unlock other parts of the area you're in are on the other side of the fucking map and warping just makes the whole finding a bonfire thing pointless because that's all you do is run from bonfire to bonfire like a goddamn wuss because it's more productive to exploring every inch you can find.
>>284029062 Being human allows you to summon and be summoned by other players. It also opens you to being invaded. If you don't want the experience of PvP and Co-op, then you should play offline. Be a man and try to take on bosses by yourself, but if you really feel like you're up Shit Creek, don't be afraid to get a little help. Unless you're going against Drake and Josh. If you summon for Ren and Stimpy on your first play-though, you're a bitch.
OP going to the internet on your first run is a terrible fucking thing to do. Ask specific questions but don't have it all.spoiled for you. Come on man you're seruously going to ruin a lot of the experience wikiing shit and googling YouTubes. Half these guys on here did that and act like they did something special for it.
I never got the hype, the game has great design and atmosphere, but punishing new players for playing online (by getting invaded) when you just want to read what people left behind... Seems like bullshit.
But since I'm a whore for ARPGs I'll pick it up again one day, probably.
>>284026992 You really spoon feeding him? Also good luck farming the Balder Side Sword. Keeping the shield up all the time is a shit advise, since the staminaregeneration is slowed that way. Now just tell him to get analbeads and be a flipping faggot that just flips through the world analbeading everything for maximum easy mode
When you die, you lose all your souls and humanity (that number in the corner). However, if you can get back to the place you died and get your green cloud, you get your souls and humanity back. You should almost always try to collect that stuff again after you die. It pretty much negates the entire penalty for death.
>>284029453 green cloud shit is the souls/humanity you lost when dying, you have one chance to get it back pvp is pretty fun and there's no real penalty for losing other than death and having to go human again
I still love how areas connect in Dark Souls, how you feel like you're going down a really long path but then the game surprises you with a shortcut back to previous areas. >mfw finding myself back at firelink after taking the undead parish elevator
Online is literally for multiplayer only. Don't want to play with others - offline. Period. Although you get the most souls from PvP - which IMO is fucking stupid. Multiplayer is fine, soap is fine, invading is fine but the souls gained from PvP is astronomical and honestly outrageous compared to solo.
>>284029759 And they'd be even better if you played online, believe me. Hearing the bells ring in other people's worlds, seeing their ghosts and messages, finding a vagrant or two, it gives it even more atmosphere and wonder.
