Is Dark Souls literally the perfect 3D Castlevania?
I can't believe there's multiple threads about the same old ass game everyday holy shit play other games you fucking Mustards.
>inb4 this one also gets 6's and 7's out of 10 and sony friends will forever shut the fuck up.
Glorious nintendo will still remain on top forever.
>"but the ps4 still has muh AAA dudebro multiplats that are available for FREE on pc!"
Oh wow, hipster contrarian /v/ is at it again.
Dark/Demon's Souls is generally agreed upon among many to be one of the best games of the generation. Despite its awful fucking fanbase. It was a breath of fresh air from the hand holdy cinematic AAA bullshit we usually get.
But of course /v/ has to hate it now because it's a very beloved game.
We will see. But in the end, who truly gives a fuck about metacritic?
They are still butthurt, so they have to start shitposting so they believe the game will not be the continuation of Miyasaki god work.
I'm not him but clearly you haven't been in many Demon's Souls threads before (and even during) the announcement of Bloodborne. Those are the comfiest and it shows more nowadays since the whole DaS fanbase has gone to shit.
>>inb4 this one also gets 6's and 7's out of 10
Literally only in your fucking dreams. Everyone - and I mean everyone - who was part of the alpha knows for a fact this is already goty. Not only does it play sublime, it's a beautiful world to be in. Just like Dark Souls was.
>gs fans worse than rse fans
>Subterranean Animism fans
I thought that'd be the EoSD fans considering half of them haven't played any others, but call themselves fans.
DeS fanbase is elitist yes, but they are still leaps and bounds better than Dark.
>Helpful hints everywhere, generally nice community
>False hints everywhere, go online GET GUD GET GUDGETGUDGETGUD.
Bare in mind, I played both on PS3, I liked DaS more because of more content but DeS has without a doubt the better community.
>Just because they're enjoying the objectively best game in the series doesn't mean they're elitist with god-tier taste.
This is exactly why you people are insufferable. When anyone ever tries to mention one of the many flaws of the game (like grass) you people throw a shit fit.
Not that guy but I would hardly say PvE is perfect either.
Some things are just not very fucking fun, stuff like Blighttown on consoles and Lost lost izalith is mainly just a chore. And I don't care how much some people shit on me for being bad at the game but some enemies and bosses are bullshit. I understand that a part of the game is learning through dying and not repeating the same mistake but shit like Ornstein's auto correct and fucking Capra Demon and his stupid fucking dogs in that small room is not what I would consider very fun because at times it just feels like skill really didn't matter.
>Allows you to cheese through the whole game
>Able to chug it down super fast differently than Estus
>Practically no punishment
DeS fanbase is not vocal and irritating as fuck though, I have never heard a DeS fan compare games of different genres entirely and say its shit because its not DeS or this game needs to be like DeS.
Dark Souls is ridiculously far from perfect. The whole difficulty of the game depends more on your equipment than anything. Melee Character? Get a Great Shield --> easy
Sourcery? Babby Mode
Why do people think DaS is so perfect about 40% of the game is a mess.
Tomb of giants
Are shit levels and janky as fuck, then even more areas feel empty and unfinished like ash lake and the great hollow.
The game is fun but i cant see why its revered as the second coming.
That's true yeah, but you'd have to have immense autism to grind for the good grass in that game.
For PVP grass is still better than Estus, since only the host being able to use the game's main source of health regen like in DaS is fucking retarded. Yeah you can heal with humanity but it's not balanced at all.
Oh please, Demon's PVP is completely broken due to all of the regen stuff in it. Humanity is pretty balanced since it takes a pretty long time to use it, meanwhile you only have to run or defend for a bit in DeS to get your whole life back.
DeS had the shittiest PVP of the entire series. Not that I'm shitting on it, it was understandable since it was the first entry you know, DaS 1 and 2 are much more refined, and I expect BB to perfect it.
Sens is ok, i think new londo is good to gets the spooky atmosphere without being a tedious pieces of shit like tomb.
Also why the fuck does DaS insist on platforming when the engine is so shit that you can just slide of a cliff for no reason, im looking at you crystal cave and blighttown.
So many cheap deaths to the game just making me slide 20 meters of a cliff when i dont even move the analog stick.
Are you fucking serious?
Why would you make tightrope walkways with archers and ninjas and lizards and lightning lizards and guillotines and dragon arrows in a purposefully clunky, heavy game that punishes the player hard on their loses?
Dark souls is my favorite metroidvania (god I hate that word).
Its far from perfect, but I love it. Its a flawed masterpiece in my eyes.
My main issues with the game
>STR weapons really do suck, especially compared to DeS. The movesets are all pretty similar and the R2s are mostly slow leaping attacks. You are better off just doing a jumping attack. They also don't do enough damage one handed, they only saving grace is two handing them
>the netcode sucks (but this goes for all souls games). Getting back stabbed from the front or side or ten feet away is so fucking annoying, as well as soul spears and pursuers hitting you when they never even scratched you.
>The lost izilaths eye rape. You can't turn it down or off what the fuck
>kiln is too short for a last level and the games ends so abruptly. Gywn is a great fight but damn that level really hurts the end of the game
>the DLC, while good, is fat too linear
And although its not a fault of the game, the community as a whole sucks
I only died fucking twice from falling off, git gud.
I only had a hard time on the anor londo archers, and that only took me about 10 attempts at bum rushing to get through.
Very true, but even at 1.04 and 1.05 there were hacking gankers in the forest, nip ninja flipping bastards that did nothing more than backstab fish, and entiltird faggots that would smack talk when they killed you, but D/C before you finished them off.
Afros video opened a whole new can of worms and exposed people to the game who I wish never even knew about it
Personally, I think the worst part was when the PC release came out. New people came flooding in and the community, rather than welcoming them and helping them, just antagonized them purposefully (most probably upset that their game wasn't console exclusive anymore). There was so much shitposting on /v/ against the PC version and PC players that it drove a lot of decent people away.
I literally just ran through the entirety of Sen's Fortress and Anal Rodeo SL1 in under 5 minutes, currently getting my ass handed to me by O&S. You just need to get better, honestly.
Not to mention you can grab anything and it stays after you die.
>start the game
>run to Catacombs, pick up Zwei or Great Scythe
>you now have cool stuff you can easily beat the game with
Seems pretty OP to me.
>New people came flooding in and the community, rather than welcoming them and helping them, just antagonized them purposefully (most probably upset that their game wasn't console exclusive anymore).
They were antagonised because all they did was make artificial difficulty threads. You can't help people like that, their mind is already made up. The game isn't hard, it's just cheap and unfair, to them. If a game doesn't let you stroke your ego all the time they don't like it.
So fuck them. Git gud.
I was really impressed by the level design that went into Firelink Shrine, Undead Burg/Parish, Darkroot, The Depths, Blightown, Sen's Fortress and Anor Londo.
Everything after that was a bit less impressive, but still fun.
Some people get so pissy when a game becomes popular on /v/. Its really transparent.
The souls games literally ruined other games for me.
It's hard to explain, I used to play 2-3 new games a month all the way but nowadays (I'm busier anyways) I can just fire up DeS, DS, or
I like co-oping in this game, but is it just impossible to do it for the Lord Soul bosses? I ended up soloing all of them, and even when I put my own sign down I rarely ever get summoned. What's the deal?
Sen must have been a sadistic piece of shit to feel even remotely safe in that fucking house of horrors. God forbid you step on the wrong tile and get 3 bolts in your spine.
Same, I can easily put dozens of hours into a Souls game and want to do more stuff but everything else bores me to tears.
I started playing Alien Isolation due to /v/'s love of it when it first came out. I'm only a few missions in and the Souls withdrawal is kicking in.
Balder Side Sword is the best sword. Prove me wrong
Fucking dex builds man
>GTA Vice City
>Gold and Silver
>Legacy of Kain
How is it possible to be so wrong?
You people act like other challenging games don't come out at all. I'm sure half the people that have played dark souls never beat NG on any difficulty period. Dark souls doesn't really even reach a new standard, it just has a marginal learning curve compared to most triple A games that come out. It's okay to like the game, but the way people put it on a pedestal is absolutely retarded or I just assume they haven't played enough games that actually make you learn boss movesets.
It's more like the metroidvanias. You unlock new parts, and you have to backtrack a lot. There is also fake walls (breakable in CV) and lots of secrets that are not necessary to complete the game but feels good to have them around
Being cursed isn't really that big of a threat. I can wade through the basilisks in the depths without worrying about it. And that on the first playthrough.
Me too, I've put at least 300 hours in every game now, just finished another DaS run this morning.
I even put 80 hours in that mediocre game Lords of the fallen
It doesn't help I played the Bloodborne alpha and have been 11/10 hype ever since
I just finished killing Gaibon & Slogra (Ornstein & Smough) after a few hours going through castlevania (Anor Londo). Who should I go for next Death (Nito), Galamoth (Seath), Dracula's Familiars (4 Kings) or
which boss would it be?(Bed of chaos)
>Gaibon and Slogra
>Not beavis and butthead
>Not biggie smalls
>Not Snorlax and Pikachu
>Not Little Boy and Fat Man
>Not Penn and Teller
>Not Fatboy and Slim
>Not wtfwasthat and thisrangeisfuckingbullshit
>Not Pinky and the Brain
>Not The IRS
>Not Wario and Waluigi
>Not The Super Londo Brothers
>Not Lincoln and Taft
>Not Elvis and Fat Elvis
FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING UNDERAGE FAGGOTS
THEIR NAMES ARE DRAGONSLAYER ORNSTEIN AND EXECUTIONER SMOUGH
FUCK OFF AND DIE AND YOU MEMESPOUTING FUCKING UNDERAGE FAGLORDS
JUST DIE DIE
>No fun allowed
You're just mad becuase you can't come up with any good nicknames for these dickheads
It's a Castlevania run. They have to go by that for now.
>>The Super Londo Brothers
it's a piece of shit game fuck off with your hype!
I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THESE SHIT GAMES
YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED
JUST WATCH PEOPLE PLAY IT ON YOUTUBE TO GET AN IDEA OF HOW SHIT THEY ARE
That's ok, i forgot
>Drake and Josh
Why does /v/ always get so autistic when somebody uses the word "Metroidvania"?
Yeah it's a lose fucking term but what better is there to decribe a game that's "Open world'ish but made up out of corridors and linear paths with backtracking and acquiring items to progress."?
Lets hear it for the first boss to give me a headache in this fucking game!
>that tiny arena
>those fucking dogs
The writing in both games is equally bad, but DMC dante is actually likable, Dante in DmC isn't. Sure the gameplay is less complex and has hazard enemies but it is still fun and mildly challenging, like the other games. This is without breaking the game cause you can do so in both titles.
I was running a dex/int build, wearing thief armor, with BSS in one hand, and sorceries in the other. I got flattened the first time i stepped through that fog
I beat Capra Demon on the first time on my first playthrough of the game, only to die like 5 times on NG+
Seriously, that boss fight does not require skill, it's a load of shit.
Honestly, this whole beating the same monsters over and over and over is really wearing thin.
>no dedicated kick button
>defaults to 1-handed stance every time you chance
I never got the difficulty with capra demon, you pretty much run up the stairs and jump down over and over again until you kill them. Do people just attack him head on?
Yeah I know how to beat him, it's just that getting to the stairs can be absolutely fucked and involve a great deal of luck.
Dodge the capra's blow? You now have two fucking dogs ready to gank the shit out of you with no room to breathe thanks to the incredibly small space. Only to have the Demon finish you off with his second blow while you are stun locked.
Well if you are going into the fight blind and haven't played DeS you may not realize how screwed you are fighting below until you've died a couple times being surrounded in the tight corridor.
Then you have to see the ledge and realize the fight is meant to be another falling damage fight which makes you feel annoyed for trying to do it "legitimately".
After that you still have to dodge past the capra demon and his two doggies to reach the ledge and some builds especially fat roll will often get caught.
If you are still getting a hang of the game then you will die several times more as even a slightly bad dodge can have you get clipped by the capra or roll into a dog.
You know what I miss?
The threads where we discussed why the drake bridge and Anal Rodeo archers are segments of bad game design.
Whats wrong with the Drakebridge? The first firebreath won't kill you and there are multiple ways to get past it.
The Anal Rodeo sucks because fighting a silver knight on the ledge is fucking atrocious, the models were clearly not meant for such a cramped space.
>Clanging off the wall
>SIlverknight is standing in mid air without falling because his model is fatter than the floor
That shit sucked.
Everyone in the souls fanbase has run through the game with a blindfold while not using anything other than a broken short sword and no estus. Did I mention this was their first time playing?
>mfw Anor Londo Archers
I died more on those two fucking archers than I did on any boss in the entire game.
>You will never again get to hang out in Sen's Fortress, WOGing people into the rock traps and off cliffs
>You will never wait to be invaded in the forest or near the Hydra and then just play hide and go seek with your invader.
>You will never again put your Gravelord sign down and wait for an enemy to invade you. Then use Undead Rappor on a tough enemy.
T-thanks Soul Memory
Artorias was hard because you could barely predict which attack he was going to use next. And i loved every second of that fight
>You will never have a waifu as loyal as Artorias did.
>playing pure melee made that shit horrible
is parrying that hard for you?
there's like 10 different ways for a melee build to get through that fight are you fucking kidding me even blocking is sometimes enough to push him off
I played pure melee and it wasn't hard at all. The arrows were slow as shit, running and rolling through those sections was a piece of piss.
If we're going to have a discussion about bullshit in Anor Londo, those lightning cunts are way bigger pieces of shit.
>play the pc version
>get near the base of blighttown
>try the pvp system
>surprise, it dosent work on pc
>buy it on xbox
>framedrops everywhere but i get over it
>get past the first boss and then forget about the game for like a year
how do you guys beat these long ass games
>Not Frodo and Sam
>Not Bill and Ted
>Not Jerry and Newman
>Not Keenan and Kel
>Not Sanford & Son
>Not Jesus and Buddha
>Not Burger and Fries
>Not the Good, the Bad & the chosen Undead
>Not Bert and Ernie
>Not Vegetta and Nappa
>Not Violent J and Shaggy 2
>Not Moot & W.T motherfucking Snacks
>Not Simon & Garfunkel
>Not Fuck this I quit
Dark Souls is far from perfect. A good analogy is that Dark Souls is like a beautiful mansion that is only halfway built, thus the unfinished areas are covered in blue tarp.
You can get to Blightown within about 2 minutes of finishing the tutorial
And then you start Blighttown. What fun that shit was
>think of dark soul music...
>think of castlevania music
After replaying the game a million times, upper blighttown is my favourite area.
It's just fun to try to find a new way of getting down to lower every time you go through.
