Stuff like the pic in the OP was only happening because of a lack of familiarity with the architecture the systems were built upon.
The new systems are (x86) architecture which is native to basically every PC, it's nothing new.
There are possible performance increases as developers learn to balance the code within the hardware specifications more efficiently but ultimately it's only going to be 5-10% at MOST, there's no chance of anything happening with the old console systems occurring again and you're an idiot who doesn't understand why it happened in the first place if you disagree.

Not pictured: upscaling from wonky resolution, framerate that dips into the teens, resources focused on character models and away from everything else, "grandpa without his glasses" draw distance except a few instances where they dedicate everything to rendering one big "epic" scene to make you think it can happen all the time in gameplay, pop-in, shadows that look like they're being cast by Minecraft characters, muddy textures covered up by filters, N64 trees, sprites instead of models for objects they hope you'll never be within 50 feet of or look at for more than 3 seconds, and so on. Console optimization plateaued and they had to keep lying to you, 8th gen is barely even capable of naturally meeting what 7th gen lied about being capable of.
That's my point. They sacrifice a lot of slightly less noticeable quality so that at first glance, it looks like an improvement, but then you actually play it with the chugging framerates, 10 second loading times just to open the pause menu, etc. and you realize it's just a big piece of shit.
Meanwhile, I'm playing Alien: Isolation at 120 frames per second in glorious 1440p quality.

I think the bigger problem is Ass Creed-style "do lots of mediocre shit" mechanics. I remember some third party company recently wanted to make some sticker based game for Nintendo and Ninty had a mechanic all worked out and saved away that they shared with the devs. Compare that to games that are filled to the brim with "content" but can't even get jumping right

It'll play anything that's not exclusive better than consoles and have access to literally everything else ever released on PC. The only exclusive on either platform I care even a little about is Halo and Halo 5 looks like shit so far. If MCC comes to PC It'll save me $200 in a couple years.
Maybe if Xbone and PS4 were BC they'd be worth it, but then I guess they couldn't have justified 95% of both their libraries being last-gen ports or Sony's ridiculous streaming "service."

It's not about what platform he plays on. At this early stage of a new generation of consoles you have to be literally retarded to buy one. The only option that proves you're not retarded is pc, ninty, or last gen.
Also the reason 7th gen console games started to look better later on is because devs learned how to use all the shaders better, utilize multi-threading & most importantly, switched over to deferred rendering
What you see now with Next gen games is what you get, we know what they can do, there isn't anything to learn
Devs hoped Next gen consoles could handle some quite nice Global illumination, because PS4 devkits packed GTX 680's, but nope, you can forget that
