Today is more or less my third anniversary of being a member at /v/. And while really enjoying this site I always have wondered how this site gained its current status?
This site is pretty much the top video game message board of the industry. Gaming journos post on it, developers post on it, analysts post on it, etc.
Not only that but many journalist, developers, and the like refer to /v/ in the media. Sites like IGN refer to /v/ in their Podcasts, Jaffe brought upon /v/ during an interview with GameTrailers, XSEED stated that they look solely at /v/ when deciding to pick what games to localize, Capcom looked to /v/ to find quotes of user satisfaction during a press conference, etc. And I'm not even a gaming media junky at all, these are just some things I've come across from time to time. I mean how often do you see similar things involving Gamespot, IGN, or GameFAQS?
Not to sound like a stereotypical obsessive internet nerd, but I'm just curious how /v/ got this status of being the online staple of the gaming community. I tried doing the research myself because when I don't know something it drives me crazy, but all I could find was information at Wikipedia.
So yeah how did /v/ come so far? What was the "journey" of it all?
I think it's a combination of our brutal honesty and high standards. I know for a fact that if I was a game dev I'd come straight here for feedback. I never knew about some of the things in the OP but it's made me quite proud to browse here.
holy fuck GTFO already. if you want to know, it's because people are anonymous and can make claims without anything attached to it, so a lot of raw shit comes out. now fuck off and stop making retarded leddit-tier posts.
Reddit is literally better than this place, that's why the industry fellas always go there. I wish I could leave this shithole of a place but I just can't
It sure is great being a Member™ of 4chan™, especially at their Epic™ funny /v/™ on the Internet™!
Many LOL™'s and Funnies™ here being a Member™ of this Website™, so Epic™!

I'd like to see a source on this
>he only started browsing in 2012
too many 13 year old fucks jsut dicovering the internet making dumb meme jokes on 4chan nowadays to try to act cool and fit in. we literally have to have boards to attempt to contain cancer, like that cams and meetups bullshit and mlp and shit jesus christ
>people really believe /v/ is a beacon of truth and all things good in the video game industry
This place is nothing but console wars, SJW threads, and off topic garbage. The only reason I don't go on Reddit or 4+4chan is because I can't get my laughs.
I wish mods would ban all you faggots.
Make a fucking blog, this is not nice post.
>only three years
>and this is considered a long time relative to the rest of /v/'s current userbase
I suddenly remember why people consider this place a containment board
It's just a hub most developers associate with being shitty. Even IF this place was considered valuable, most of the better posters of /v/ got driven out during that Gamergate months back debacle and jumped ship to other places, (sans why /v/ sings was exceptionally shittier and drawfags are too.)
If there was a journey to being a pop culture icon, it's done now and has been for a long time. The most recognizable thing that comes at the top of my head is Minecraft being created here, and that is not even acknowledged as part of it's history anymore
We're just faggots who play video games and wreck shit up really.
That's the only way I can explain it.

Here we go
None of those things in your third paragraph have happened. All that happens here is people leaking stuff.
The only reason I don't go somewhere else is because literally everything else is either slow as fuck, has a community that somehow manages to be even _more_ retarded than this one, and generally have terrible interfaces.
What the fuck are you guys memeing out about?

>everyone falling for this copypasta from a neocuck thread
N E W F A G S
If a thread didn't work yesterday, might as well try again the next day, right OP?
Fuck off and lurk moar.
He came into Minecraft threads once in a while and gave people free copies. If you're going to try and seem like LE OLD MEMBER XD then at least get your facts straight
Well, we all kno what this means. A mod started the thread to be ironic and make people angry. Then when a poster attempted to be even more ironic, they banned them in a fit of asspain and attention whoring. Things never change.
how long have you been a member of /v: video games?
reply to this post with your answer

God damn how do you even get yourself publicly banned for shitposting, on /v/ of all fucking places?
What a dumb nigger.
>been here six years
>still can't greentext correctly
>leaving the thread up
>not publicly banning OP at least
We're many, young and gullible, and we tend to evaluate "regular gamers" opinion more than someone paid to say things about games.
Developers and others can come here as "regular gamers" and tell us what to do.
They did it with Amiibo, too.
4chan ain't what it used to be but it's still the best fucking site on the internet.
I'd compare it to living the high-life for years and then choosing to leave your Manhattan penthouse for a Detroit dumpster.
They kinda deserve to lose the money of their parents for falling to shill threads like the dimwitted anencephalic retards they are, though.
No offense, dear moronic customers.
We wouldn't be here without your uninformed purchases, you are precious. So so precious.
Mods and jannys are always the worst shitposters. They have nothing else to do because someone cannot be expected to do a good "job" for no compensation. I still remember that time someone on x would constantly post examples of how shitty the board was in screenshots. Then one day his tabs had the /j/ board open in them. Never trust a 4chan volunteer to be anymore than a shitposter or attention whore.
An outlaw for what?
Freedom to post stupid inanity like this, , ?
go to [s4s], that's what it's for
Freedom to repost slightly less inane garbage like OP's post?
Go to /r9k/ where the 'community' gets flustered and incongruously angry about mild insults and re-defining themselves to put down other people.
I seen this place mentioned on reddit before. They said u guys were the most creative people on the internet.
I am glad to be apart of 4chan. I am a newbie but i will learn the lingo/memes and contribute to this site.
took me forever to learn how to just post xD
