>“There isn’t anything on the market like Crowfall, and it has been a long time since some of these design ideas were explored,” Koster said in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “There’s a very specific audience out there waiting for a game like this — the conflict, the real economy — that has been looking for new steps beyond the games of ten years ago.”
who hype here?
And the physics system, same as EverQuest Next.
Errr..It's more like an EVE clone with WOW skin
>the EVE of MMO
>There isn’t anything on the market like Crowfall
I don't understand...
For starters, there's EVE, which is the EVE of MMOs. Then there's Perpetuum, which is the EVE of mech games, and ArcheAge which is the EVE of KMMO/WoW clones. There are also many non-MMO games which contain various characteristics associated with EVE.
The Repopulation is a pay once no subscription (maybe with micro transactions, IDK) game that copies most of the mechanics that were around in early SWG. That and shroud of the avatar and other games that try to adapt the older MMO character building are the only ones that interest me somewhat anymore
>the EVE of
>probably not even subscribed
Nigger what the fuck does that even mean? Are you saying its sandboxy? Or that the devs are hands off? Or that you drop everything when you die? Or that your skills accumulate passively?
That means exactly fuck all you stupid shill next time you viral your ugly game, and its really really fucking ugly, at least use something other than vague terms.
>having hopes for an MMO
also need that BUT ITS BETA comic, will inevitably prove useful in future threads
World of Darkness was our only hope and it died a while ago.
>the EVE of MMO
Nigga EVE is already a MMO, what are you talking about? And the age of MMOs is over. Apparently FF:ARR is doing well, but outside of that and WoW, the genre is fucking dead
>Being hype for mmos
Literally the worst type of people on /v/. They're constantly wrong and they play shit games.
I remember when people were hype as fuck for SWTOR and to a wayy lesser extent TESO
Fuck voxels, fuck real economy, fuck sandbox and fuck themepark.
Fuck everything about your game. No one is going to fall for MMORPG bullshit anymore.
Make your stupid game, prove everyone wrong, until then you're just another fucking MMORPG that's going to suck ass and go F2P in under a year.
No one is hype. No one is going to ever be hype for a MMORPG. Not unless they're actually mentally handicapped. MMORPGs burn players 99.999% of the time. Literally fuck yourself with a rake.
Uhm... I wasn't trying to viral. I was simply making a similar point to yours - that the phrase OP used didn't seem to make sense.
But to answer your questions; Perpetuum is basically an EVE clone with mechs. Pic related. Other than the similar interface, it's sandboxy, it has passive skill training, most everything on the market is manufactured by players, there's "high sec" and "low sec", etc..
As for ArcheAge; like I said, it's a KMMO / WoW clone, but it has a lot of features reminiscent of EVE, such as an in-game item that can be used to pay your subscription much like PLEX, you can aggress anyone in most areas of the game, uproot people's crops to ruin their day, and so on. It's rather sandboxy and freeform. Granted, it's still a KMMO, so mechanically it's not very much like EVE.
Listen bud. Its pretty obvious that you're not from around here, or you're new here. If you're seriously going to explain these games to me like i've never heard of them you should probably go back to neogaf.
>There isn’t anything on the market like Cowfall
Well, if you enjoyed EVE, but you thought it was just a little too... good, too polished, and the community was too much alive, then Perpetuum is exactly right for you - it's EVE, but less good and more dead.
How are they "cartoon" other than being colorful?
There is nothing about them, from proportion to stylization, that touches on the basis of ANYcartoonist art styles of either the West or East.
So fucking tired of this washed out, pastel-coloured, low-poly bullshit
>A Tri-Realm™ MMORPG where you can become a legendary warrior, crafter, or a leader of your Realm.
>No one is hype. No one is going to ever be hype for a MMORPG.
This is what I said when PC Gamer started writing articles about a new genre called MMORPG where people pay monthly to play.
this pretty much. Every MMO says that and ends up the same except a gimmick here and there. Believe ABSOLUTELY nothing until release. for every game, not just mmos. Developers WILL lie to your face.
This is the first MMO I've seen in a long time with potential to be good.
It all depends on how devs deliver on their proposals but what has been proposed interests me. A player driven sandbox with physics engine is appealing and different from the theme park shit that has been turned out.
>Pre alpha garbage
please, I love mmos, but stop shilling crap we're not playing till 2017, seriously, like think for a second, why in the world do you want to get hyped for 2 years just to play a shitty EQ Next clone? stop hurting yourself, stop hurting others
>he conflict, the real economy — that has been looking for new steps beyond the games of ten years ago
black desert says hello
>no fast travel
>auction houses limited to their own area, no global auction
>caravan routes that can be attacked by players
>players need to hire npcs or other players to protect the shipments
>same shit by boat
literally in beta and it's coming out next year for the west
daum has a fetish for western players and wants the game here asap, they are even creating a western division for that
like i'm interested
that's about it, probably will end up by nothing but i'm not completely cynical like every other asshole on here. Just don't expect much to come out of this, but might be neat.
I went from 0/10 hype to -1000/10
After playing Guild Wars 2 we should not tolerate these things.
>Muh guild wers
stop it with this shit, the game is dead, end of the story, I played for 7 fucking years and I got over it, instead of being mad it's gone, be mad people DIND'T get mad enough and stayed in fucking gw1 showing neo-arenanet what piece of shit they created.
It isn't "twitch" based combat, and either way, yes, tab targeted combat offers more in a MMO.
You simply can't do much with "action" combat, it's extremely limited mechanics wise, you can't make it more complex either since it would become impossible to keep track of stuff.
"Action" combat is fine for small scale stuff but certainly not for a MMO.
You misread him. You can't do actual action based combat in an MMO because of latency issues, so you get "action" based combat instead. Tab targeting combat has more depth because the "action" version is very simplistic.
An MMO telling me it's doing things differently and there's nothing like it out there? Say it aint so.
>tab targeted combat offers more
>would become impossible to keep track of stuff
You sound like one of those WoW players who played TERA and realized they sucked at vidya and has been mad as hell ever since.
Tab target design is a fat old dinosaur much like yourself.
Why does this game have assets from Divinity: Original Sin?
It is literally impossible to get hyped up over MMOs since... guild wars 2 or SWTOR? Like, at that point it was already old, but I understand when people got hyped over those two... but now? Nope.
Wanna know what it would take for an MMO to be succesful now? It'd need to be EXTREMELY fast to get into and be fun to play, like TF2 when it was a decent game. No one is willing to part ways with their WoW character, so you better make a really fun game mode and then build the world around that. This game isn't that, so it will fail.
Perhaps post NGE your post would be correct, but it does not apply to when the game was most popular or any of the current pre-NGE emulators.
It was the most sandbox sandbox mmo available at the time, very very little themeparks.
black desert also has great ideas such as:
-people only drop items if they are a criminal
-if you kill another person you are a criminal until you grind a few hours worth of monsters
-dungeon and raid focus with basically useless sandbox features thrown in as marketing points
They're not the most feasible. You're only shilling tab-targeting because it's easy and brainless. Devs were forced to go along with tab-target decades ago due to hardware and latency restrictions. It's 2015 and devs need to push boundaries again instead of copypasting mechanics from the 90s because they're too retarded to come up with new ideas themselves.
>the EVE of MMO
The fact that EVE is an MMO aside, while it is my favorite MMO of all time, EVE wasn't the first sandbox MMO. CCP themselves have stated the influence of Ultima Online, which popularized virtually all aspects of sandbox MMOs (open PvP, players having influence on the world, etc.). It's just that EVE is the best at it. Also, there are a ton of sandbox MMOs out there other than EO and UO, so I don't know what will make this stand out.
It IS an MMO.
Literally by definition.
1. What genre of game is Crowfall?
Crowfall is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG, for anyone born in a cave).
Ok, yeah, naw. With language like that they're clearly pandering to le reddit and 9gag 'us gamers'. Fuck your heap of shit game. I'm out.
There is literally no point in going criminal as it just means everyone in the area will come at you and youll lose your items.
no one pvps outside of the battleground sort of instances because of this
