>"Nintendo is not only a Japanese company, it is a Kyoto-based company. For people who aren’t familiar, Kyoto-based are to Japanese companies as Japanese companies are to US companies. They’re very traditional, and very focused on hierarchy and group decision making. Unfortunately, that creates a culture where everyone is an advisor and no one is a decision maker – but almost everyone has veto power."
Quote from Dan Adelman, the guy at NOA that used to work with the indie devs
What makes the WiiU lacking are things like expandable HDD, apps and lack of Blu-Ray player
The WiiU should be competing the PS4 and Xbone as its own gaming & media entertainment system that EVERYONE wants.
Nintendo should know that there is an audience outside America, Europe and Japan. WiiU would have been the cheapest Blu-Ray player in the world, and would definitely kill both Sony and Microsoft on that front.
Think about it: A 50GB disc capable of holding 48 Gamecube games. That's interesting.
>>284257626 >32gb hard drive Us basic owners feel even worse. We basically get 4gb to store shit. I got my console for free so I cant complain much but seriously its abysmal. I buy all my games physical so i didnt think it would be a problem but all these damn Hyrule warriors patches are making the game take up almost 1gb on its own.
I think they're out of touch with the people who play their games. They make games that treat their fans like retards even though though said they wanted to go back to appealing to the core audience, and they like using poorly thought-out, inelegant solutions to old problems in their remakes. I can think of a bunch of ways the changes they implimented in MM3D could've satisfied everyone, and they're really simple.
>>284258024 This. Their 3DS is probably the biggest gap between the hardware they're using vs. the hardware that is easily available to them. It's actually heinous how fucking cheap and shitty the 3DS is in 2015.
240p And whoever says "lol caring what your games look like," fuck off. Nintendo obviously cares what their games look like considering their entire gimmick is a visual one. There is no excuse anymore
>>284258067 You do realize the majority of the games they've released now were greenlighted back when they thought the Wii U was going to attract the Wii crowd, right? 2012-2013ish. You're not gonna see that shift till late 2015.
>>284259202 The reason Nintendo consoles have just become Nintendo machines and have shit third party support with the Wii is because they need devs to tack on their stupid fucking gimmicks and they demand a degree of control over the game.
>>284259202 They did. It's just that they didn't realize that core gamers hate their guts until late 2013 when everything died at retail. Third party picked up on it though and canceled all their games.
Also they're spending less on advertising now. They've accepted the Wii U ain't gonna be a rousing success. So they're just making whatever money they can from it.
>>284256294 They keep trying stupid gimmicky consoles, they (and we) would be much better off if they would just pull a Sega and create games for other consoles and/or PC, and continue handheld consoles.
Also, the fact that neither of their current gen consoles have any kind of achievement system.
They are gradually losing what makes them unique because they dont want the easy way out of their currently niche market situation.
Introducing DLC cancer, day 1 DLC cancer, selling unfinished games, selling statuine bullshit, ad placement that makes no sense and is shameless AND specifically announced with its own video, and so on.
Nintendo should seek to become profitable by being nintendo. They are having a rough time on the home console department but I don't think copying other cancer is going to pay out in the long run, something nintendo always seemed to prioritize over petty quick profit.
That's my PERSONAL problem, I dont know or care what they should do to fix it, or if it's even a problem to them or not, but then again I'm not an investor so I only care about playing the videogames.
All I know is nintendo has lost some of its uniqueness and they've kept going this direction ever since the second half of the Wii's lifespan, getting exponentially worse because of the WiiU.
They are complete fucking trash at third party support. The Wii U was a step in the right direction, but they tried to do another gimmick again with second-screen gameplay but at least it wasn't motion controlled.
But then they decided to fuck up again by using what practically amounts to a 360 dev kit, you know the ones with 1GB of RAM. Not only that but they also used an underclocked 360 processor. And fuck off if you think this is a "MUH GRAPHICS" thing, this is just being too fucking late to the god damn party. The Wii U is what should have been the Wii.
The Wii U is in the same boat that the Dreamcast was in. The only difference is that Nintendo has enough first party power to actually carry the system. If they could get major third party developers to work with them, they'd be an actual competitor in the business. As of now, they are merely a secondary platform that compliments any of the other three primary platform options. Granted, its not the best secondary you could choose from.
>>284258067 This. They've been doing a lot of questionable shit like the creators program, market the hell out of the New XL which could easily be done with the Wii U but they don't as if they want to act like it doesn't exist and rely on game commercials to generate sales. They've also underestimated the demand for Amiibos wanting to make it a get rich quick deal for them. They need to rely less on their main franchises and get more third party along with a premium online service option that people can pay for or something of the sort.
>>284256294 Nintendo, or at least Iwata, has no spine. Yamauchi dominated the marker and subsequently lost it not by being nice, but by being a hardass and telling people to fuck off if he didn't his way. Developers had no choice in the matter, it was either join or perish. Yamauchi didn't allow Miyamoto or Sakurai or whoever to walk over them, if Yamauchi wanted something, he WANTED it DONE. Miyamoto saw no hope in Mother, but Yamauchi told him to work on it anyway, which turned out to be a moderately successful game in Japan. Nintendo used to pump out several new IPs in each generation, in an attempt to widen their audience, especially since Nintendo losing developers to Sega was imminent. Yamauchi wasn't content with making money, he wanted to rule the market, and he did. The NES, SNES, and GameBoy were all alive and well, and Nintendo was a HUGE entity in the world, almost untouchable.
>>284259974 >They are gradually losing what makes them unique because they dont want the easy way out of their currently niche market situation.
Also this. Every core Nintendo philosophy has been completely shat on to the point that there's no reason to stick around with them when they're fucking over the consumer as much as every other console company now:
>patching there's a famous quote by miyamoto i believe that says they'd rather release a game with some delays if it means there won't be any bugs/reasons to patch. their hugest IPs like Pokemon and Smash are released with a fuckton of bugs
>DLC they've always made a point of releasing a game as is, nothing more, nothing less. also completely out the window
>games first their biggest cash cow right now is selling happy meal toys to manchildren and there is no sign of it ending any time soon as people initially believed it was just a quick cash grab and they would get back on their feet and go back to making good games
Hardware is shit and expensive, completely out of date compared to everything else Software is shit Fans are easily the worst human beings on earth Handhelds are shit, literally impossible to play in public without looking autistic Everything is a remake or some kind of spin off, very minimal opening for third party developers Everything is marketed towards casuals, even their most 'competitive games' are casual as fuck Their developers don't understand anyone besides children and NEET autists Too many retarded gimmicks, all of them get boring fast
They used to be fun and unique, now they're a shell of their former self only worshiped by children and manchildren
>>284259694 They have to use them because Nintendo systems don't have graphics to sell their games. A big reason western AAA thirdparty has all but abandoned Nintendo. Nintendo and Microsoft didn't realize that everybody left on consoles only care about graphics. Sony probably didn't either until after the PS4 reveal, then they caught on and did the #4thegamers shit which won the core gamers over because it was exactly what they wanted to hear. Nintendo and Microsoft would totally take back the Wii U and Xbone if they could but they can't because they misread the market and thought gimmicks could win families over. They were wrong. Smartphones won that battle and now they're scrambling for a semblence of base. All they can fight now is the exclusive battle because they both lost the graphics war in consoles. So, Nintendo should probably just give up on consoles and do something different with video games in general. Something revolutionary like smartphones and handhelds and shit and find the evolution of those. Hell, I dunno what... but unless they want to enter the graphics war, they should just do something else.
They always undercut in price with underpowered hardware and balance it with quality first party. The problem is, they're the only ones who want to actually make money, so it doesn't work when competition "cheats".
If you think that's a problem that's going to be fixed, you're an idiot. Focus on things that are possible.
>>284256294 Nintendo itself isn't the problem, it's the fanbase. They just can't win no matter what they do. If they remake a game or add something to a pre-existing franchise, the fans cry about how they never make any new IPs. If they make a new IP, the fans cry about how it isn't x remake/addition to pre-existing franchise. It doesn't really help that the main shit is what sells the most, which would certainly be intimidating for developers who want to make something new.
>>284261069 No, if you game on PC, exclusives matter more than anything and Nintendo wins in being the most unique console out of the three. Honestly the Bone isn't much better than the PS4 in this regard either but it is better. Basically, if you're a lazy sack of shit, a PS4 is right up your alley if you want a PC.
Yes, and hence I said "and subsequently lost it". He was a very stubborn man, and no one knows the exact reasons why the SNES CD never came to be. One source states that Sony would retain the rights to any game published for the SNES CD, including Nintendo games. Another source states that Sony was inevitably going to create an SNES CD successor that would be backwards compatible with SNES CD games, effectively swiping away all their marketshare. Another is something as simple as Nintendo wanting to make most of the profits and being in control of the production.
One thing is for certain, Nintendo chose cartridges over CDs because they didn't want to pay royalties to Sony. Hell, the whole reason why the Wii and Wii U can't play DVDs and Blurays respectively is because Nintendo isn't a fan of paying royalties for any technology. Every format Nintendo uses is completely proprietary.
>>284261440 You mean exclusives no one gave a shit because the wiiu is still selling like shit in the end? also plz you only like nintendo,pc is not nintendo a ps4 owner can have a pc a xbox owner can have a fucking pc,is not something nintendo owns.
>adopt region-lock because people would otherwise profit from reselling different region titles, and that is bad! >but it's fine when they are intentionally creating limited amiibo figurines so that everyone rushes to buy them on day-one even if they are shit, because of the "what if one of these turns out to be useful with a future game?" drrone mentality >scalpers have reported they profited more off these amiibo figures in the last month than they did with region-free game reselling in 5 years Nintendo is retarded. This whole amiibo thing is retarded. Eventually, good content will be locked behind the amiibo gate, not necessarily by nintendo itself, it can be a third party dev, and features will be locked and impossible to access because they aren't producing more figurines.
They are literally playing on the consumers' fear that you may miss out on things in the future by specifying "there will be much more support later on", and keeping it vague.
>>284261838 I started PC when Japanese third party started coming to it. I have no interest in the grand majority of western third party and if I do, it tends to be indy shit like Shantae and Shovel Knight which... seems to be on a certain system... hmm... I wonder which one... hmm... I could give a shit about the popularity contest because I won't spend a dime for paid online. Fuck that shit. Only lazy shitheads who don't know how to set up a PC do that.
>>284261949 >Why did you bother to reply in the first place To inform you on the current state of things.
>are you angry i called the wiiu a piece of shit? You didn't call it "a piece of shit", so I had no reason to be angry. If that's how you truly feel, then that's a personal problem that's irrelevant to me or the discussion.
>>284256294 Bunch of old japs running the company, that are completely out of touch with today's gamers. Nintendo is in need of fresh blood, and people who realize the west is more important than Japan in terms of sales.
>>284261865 >If someone can make PC accessible to the layman, [...] Microsoft has basically lost.
If anything, this would assure Windows' dominance in the OS market, if only due to a small niche. The Xbox would lose, but MS would probably make more money from the Windows royalties than the Xbox ever would.
>but muh Steam OS
Yeah, look at all those wonderful PC games that run on Linux. Every major PC game is developed for Windows first, and I doubt they'd even consider making it for Linux or even Mac. At best, the Steam Machines would use the Big Picture Mode.
>>284262367 Anon, kindly excuse yourself from this thread. We're actually having a good discussion on the faults and inadequacies of Nintendo without stirring up console war faggotry like you only know how to do
>>284262367 >>284262492 You guys should be called hypocrits because not only you suck nintendo cock you suck steam cock for the lack of games, no maybe i should call you whores, thanks for killing the wiiu third party support anyways.
-Mario is completely bankrupt on creativity -relying on 'safe bets' to get through a sluggish console generation (again) -Fucking region-locking -Amiibos and DLC bullshit locking away content behind paywalls -No concept of how to name and advertise products -Fucking account system is a nightmare and a joke considering it's 2015 already
+One of the few companies still shooting for artstyles in games (to fantastic effect in many new games) +Actually considers framerate important instead of just shipping graphically intense slideshows like other companies +Still actively putting out new IPs as always +Actually giving advertising time to new IPs (Codename S.T.E.A.M., Splatoon) +still cares about making a good game instead of making a movie with buttons
I'm a long-time Nintendo fan, and while certain aspects of what they're doing are absolutely infuriating, I can't say that they're making games that I dislike, aside from them often being too easy which is par for the course for modern gaming anyway.
>>284262381 Too late for that. They need to either release a fucking PC and raise a new generation of Japanese third party in order to stand out. Or do something completely different than consoles. Or just make a better utility handheld that also has something better than Streetpass.
>im selling casual shit for babys and soccer moms, but I can reach my core fans too!!! >should I make a game that captures all the things that the core audience loves? nah, they'all stupid shit eaters and I am too lazy to develop something and put effort on something, I should give them Majora's Mask once again
