Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that this game was not that great?
>Piss easy gunplay
>Useless/broken Cover system
>Dead-eye along with 300000 bullets makes impossible for you to die, thus making the combat extremely unsatisfactory/boring
>Missions have little variety compared to previous R* games
>You can cut 70% of the story and no one would see any difference, since the majority is just excuses to make John do the missions in the game
>The only things to do in the open world is hunt shit animals, found useless treasures or completing padding side quests
>Open world games like Fallout or Skyrim shit all over RDR in that department
>Plot is extremely forced to make marston do all kinds off missions
>Water instant kills you and this is a open world/sandbox game
>The game is just big because of extremely padding shit
>mustard damage controlling against rockstar
I like it, if you progress through the game it keeps the game fresh with new areas, weapons, people. The whole atmosphere of it is awesome, the mexicans are awesome, there is no copy paste houses.
Loads of minigames. the horseriding can get a bid old though
>The game is greater than the sum of its parts
Why you bring a completly unreleted game to the discussion? You're that insecure?
Also TLOU is better anyway, try to pick a better example to make goalpost
just stop, you don't even know what that means.
It would be nitpick if the guy picked a specific part of the game and tried to criticise the entire game because of it,instead he bring several mechanics and elements of the game to the table and said why they are bad.
Stop being a blind fanboy
It's not unrelated at all, people are mentioning other games and arguing whether or not it's GOTY.
There were no goal posts moved, stop projecting so hard, kinda invalidates your whole post.
Either there's only one oerson retarded enough to annoy people with regurgitated arguments and non-complaints like those or there's no hope left for humanity.
But then again when something is GOTY 2010 people will pretend to dislike it to imply superior taste than the rest of the world, classic /v/
This really ruined the game for me. I was so immersed in the game and having an amazing experience riding for hours in the desert until I noticed something wrong. My horse hadn't pooped yet.
At first I thought it was constipated, or maybe sick. I waited hours in-game, and stayed up until 4am hoping my horse would just poop. That's when I realized: The horses don't poop.
This game had potential, could have been amazing. Never have I been so disappointed in a company, Rockstar no less. Immediately returned the game and wrote them a strong worded letter, still awaiting a reply.
Because the games are extremely similar.
After episodes, rdr, to a lesser extent LA noir, and other offerings from different devs/publishers like sleeping dogs, GTA V was underwhelming as fuck.
For me personally, it was unnecessary after those games, and should have been made for next gen consoles. It should have literally been SA but bigger and better.
>stop pretending to know better than the rest of the world.
>Wanting everyone to have the same shit opinion as him
>Thinking that stating a opinion is ''pretending to know better''
>RDR is a playable Sergio Leone epic
The dust had been long settled when I finally decided to play the game. It was one of the best games I ever played and that goes double for undead nightmare, something that never gets any praise.
Saying picky bullshit that doesn't hurt the overall experience of a game as if it was a dealbreaker is literally oretending to know better thsn the rest of the world.
Your opinion is shit and the only thing holding it together is your incessant desire to get attention.
>giving examples and arguments for why the combat/gunplay is bad
>Providing arguments as for why the story is bad
The only picky thing about his post is the water thing and even then its a valid point.
But hey,you can keep saying that every critique directed at the game you like is nitpicking.
but the game was great and a hell of alot better than GTAV was.
my only complaint is that you cant fucking turn off the slowdown for Deadeye once you get that particular upgrade, it was better before.
The whole game just felt like a chore to play, nothing felt actually fun, with the exception of shooting things while riding and using the lasso on wanted criminals, that was kinda cool.
I hated the open-world thing, it only made things take longer than they should. The shooting felt bland, all my guns felt like they shoot out salt and shit. Missions were annoying since the NPCs keep making me hear the same bullshit all the time.
>hurr, a man should be judged for his crimes
>but muh poverty, muh ideals
We get it, Marston did stupid shit and he is on his way to REDEMPTION, or not, maybe. And I can't even skip it when I fail the mission, because it's not cutscene, so I'm forced to hear that shit while slowly walking towards the mission the horse.
Most of the random events that happen to "make the world feel alive!" are a clusterfuck, like, when you see robbers attacking a wagon, everyone will shoot you before you're even aware that there is a robbery going on. It's such a pain to have to start from the inn and ride all the way back to my destination at the end of the fucking world because I was just passing by some idiots.
This game was the definition of a chore to me, like I already said, and it convinced me to never touch another Rockstar game or any big-ass AAA game just because someone told me it was amazing. Those big sandbox games aren't for me, and I'm not going to bother playing games that I know I don't like just because it's the new best thing ever.
It doesn't hold up as much as I thought it would. It felt like a 10 when it came out, but I feel like its more of an 8 now.
Still, it definitely has a great story, characters, and atmosphere. The horse controls hold up better than I thought, too. I just wish the gunplay was fun.
Anyone who makes a western themed anything is going to take at least some inspiration from the dollars series, even if they don't realize it.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the few games that I give a lot of praise mostly for its atmosphere. In terms of gameplay, it's a pretty by the book sandbox game. It's nothing revolutionary in that department, but it's good enough to get by as you would expect from GTA devs.
The strength in the game really is the setting. The characters, the art, the music, the story, everything matches exactly how someone who wants to play a western sandbox game would expect. If you're going to try to review it objectively, it's really going to come down to it being like GTA but with a different skin, but that skin is so lovingly crafted that people adore it.
If the premise doesn't draw you in, it's not going to wow you. For people who like westerns it's some good shit.
>I hated the open-world thing, it only made things take longer than they should. The shooting felt bland, all my guns felt like they shoot out salt and shit. Missions were annoying since the NPCs keep making me hear the same bullshit all the time.
The gunplay is also very boring because of how easy it is,you can just activate dead-eye than spam infinite bullets with auto-aim.
Even GTA combat is harder than RDR and gta combat is pretty bad by itself
Nope. I LOVE westerns, and it doesn't feel as good as everyone told it was going to feel.
As I've said several times, the gameplay (I haven't finished the story) is alright. I expect some good argument.
It's a great western rockstar game. It lived up to the advertisement induced hype for me personally.
I can see why people would be disappointed. A lot of people don't do any research on anything before buying a game, so they go into it expecting something it's not, and feel upset and misled. It's why you shouldn't buy a game because other people tell you it's great. Check out the game, see if it's your thing. If not then don't buy it.
Once in a while when I watch a great western I go back and replay it. The atmosphere helps a lot. If you can't get immersed or sucked into the atmosphere you may get bored.
The atmosphere of RDR is indeed amazing,R* put alot of detail in their games to be fair and RDR is no exception.
I just think that people overlook too many flaws in this game, the open-world elements/story and especially gameplay are very flawed, people just choose to ignore
Extremely overrated game.
The gunplay in this game is one of the worst that i ever see in a AAA game, how you have fun in a game where's impossible to lose/die?Also the open-world is empty as fuck, almost nothing to do besides killing some animals or finding some treasures.
I can't think of anything that this game does so much better than others in the same genre besides atmosphere
Stop being a whiny pussy, you're free to like the game, and we're also free to dislike it. Just because there's not a Rockstar defence force going around 24/7 doesn't mean that the game will suddenly turn to shit in your eyes.
you're not allowed to criticize RDR in front of console plebs. It's all they have.
yup, it was ok, but not that special
also the area is kind of small and there is not that much things to do
>Last of us
>All we have
Keep the delusion Pcuck
all these great movies, can I get popcorn for those?
I'll give you RDR and DS because I'm feeling generous
people who love it must really love westerns, westerns are not really my thing
>mentioning two movies
>mentioning RDR again
The open world is unparalleled in beauty and design. I could take a screenshot from anywhere in the game world and most of you could place me on the game map from memory. The shootan was good fun.
Shame the plot sucked balls but Rockstar can't do plots since Bully.
That's the thing though. RDR was a western written by someone who hates westerns and does not understand them at all.
are you implying that linearity is a inherent bad thing? The level design of TLOU is very good imo(with the exception of the first areas)and the environments are filled with details and nice touches, the gunplay and stealth are also very solid and satisfactory.
Look i'm not the guy who started the console war bullshit but you have to admit that TLOU is a great game, maybe not great as vidya journalists made out to be but great regardless
this entire thread is MUH OPINIONS anyway but I seriously dislike linear games because they have next to zero replayability and rely massively on multiplayer after you beat them, and the multiplayer on consoles is usually dead within a year
Overrated means nothing, it literally means "people like this game more than they should" and implies that you're some sort of authority in how much someone can like something, which you're obviously not, overrated is a non-criticism mostly used by teenagers to imply some sort of criteria they obviously like, since they use non-criticisms as "overrated" in the first place.
