Quiet-characters are designed specifically to make the player fill in their shoes and feel like they're the one making the decisions, not taking backseat to an automated character.
It worked in CS, as it did in many other games (notably Half-Life, BioShock, Pokemon, etc).

Guess it's up to Nicalis to make a sequel if it ever happens. If they do, hope they at least work with ideas from Pixel himself.

I'd make a prequel with King, I know it was done in the mod scene but I would've love to see Pixel's version of it....maybe even include a story of Ballos' past, his backstory really intrigued me

Not exactly "like Cave Story" in the mechanical sense, but a good idea of what pixel can still do creatively.
Something with the same floaty feeling and spammy shooting as Cave Story would be amazing as long as Nicalis doesn't pressure the man too far out of his comfort zone. The relationship works best if they provoke him into doing his own thing without taking too much of an active hand, and I'm worried that a full sequel would be too tempting for them to not fuck up.

Lee hasn't updated his blog in two years now. Even then, he hasn't worked on that particular game publicly in forever. Shit was pretty tight despite the obvious inspiration/thievery.
It's really weird. He used to be a minor celebrity on par with pre-fez Phil Fish or Adam Atomic until he just sorta fell off the face of the earth.
I kind of liked how he took the Cave Story formula and pushed it into the realms of an actual Metroidvania, even if it wasn't the most original thing out there. He was one of the better indyshitters of his time.

I do browse it occasionally. I think you guys should add the American artworks to some of the character pages since they still are official, and add some info for differences in CS+ (like missiles being removed on Hard, which isn't mentioned Ed anywhere on the wiki).

It's funny you should say that, I'm actually focusing on the wiki's images right now. I've been adding sprites and concept art all day. And I'll look into those differences you mentioned.
If that's a known problem that many people have had, I'm sure I could add something.
It's just, that of all the people who can speak enough Japanese to contact pixel formally, why did it have to be the one company that's so out of touch with what makes the game so appealing to begin with?
Like, I'm sure any old anon from around here would have done a better job of facilitating a proper setup, if only they held the same status.
I get the impression that it's not something they're even really aware of. Like, they think they're doing this cool thing for the community, but in reality they're slowly bastardizing what made it appealing in the first place.
It's like they're just slightly out of sync with what pixel's fans really want.
That or they're legitimately evil for exploiting the man's work like that, but I'd like to keep an optimistic view.

I really don't understand what people's deal is with Cave Story+, it's the same game, they stayed perfectly true to the original graphics, they stayed true to the original text, you can easily use the AG translation if you want, you have several options for the music...

Yup that artwork. It would be nice to have that aoo gside the Jap artwork too, just for informative purposes. Other than that and some info on differences in CS+ and all, it's pretty well organized anyways.
