Why does /v/ hate blatant pandering? Isn't it good for game companies to give the players what they want?
I don't play MOBA garbage, but I know for sure that you are fucking wrong. There is no way Riot hasn't pandered in some way to a specific target.
Anyway, OP asked what is wrong with pandering. I answered. Doesn't matter if LoL caves in or doesn't to Internet peer pressure.
>here is no way Riot hasn't pandered in some way to a specific target.
For sexy champions.
The female champions of league have more skins then the males.
>OP asked what is wrong with pandering. I answered.
>>we want the tumblr audience
And you're wrong, they never cave into the tumblr sjw audience
I was sure, that there was consensus on /v/ claiming that there is no such thing as "objectively bad / good".
Because it is popular.
On serious note, because the product e.g. video game will most likely be shallow and won't offer actually anything in value. It is matter of being suspicious.
I take logic for 200.
>Pandering to sjw audience with sexy portayal of female characters
>what is fallacy?
Popstar Jarvan when?
>giant microphone + stand Q
>pink floodlights W
Not sure what to do with the E
>Cataclysm walls/terrain replaced with a ring of adoring fans and concert barricades
>Shirt open and constantly flowing in wind
I'd be sold.
>Isn't it good for game companies to give the players what they want?
Yeah but it isn't giving /v/ what /v/ wants so clearly it's wrong.
>b-but /v/ isn't one person!
You sit around circlejerking and parroting what the retard in front of you said. This board is as hivemind as any.
>Isn't it good for game companies to give the players what they want?
Of course not - players know fuckall about game development and design. Why the fuck would you ever give players what they don't know shit?
>giving the community a skin they want has the potential to ruin the game cuz players arent developers
Although i fail to see how something cosmetic can be detrimental to the game, i still agree that most things players want are game breakingly autistic
Well, I wasn't speaking about skins in specific, but even they can ruin the game's art direction. If you have ever played a Korean medieval-style MMO that inserts 'cool' cash shop items that have nothing to do with the game's depicted era, you know what I mean. Sure, some players want that, but it shits on the art direction and the game feels like an incoherent patchwork of random shit in the end.
Blatant pandering is bad because it's unequal and makes everyone else except the niche audience feel bad and alienates them from the game.
You don't see males dressing in boyband or stripper outfits either.
>buying ALL the runes
unless you're going pro there is no reason to have more than 5 rune pages. I made it to gold league relatively easily in solo queue with only 3 rune pages
as for the champions if you play 50-60 matches with your new bought char you'll have enough IP to purchase the next one. If you don't want to play 50-60 matches with one char, why did you buy him in the first place, just wait for it to be on free week. Also most players stick to one, two, max three lanes so they won't be buying support chars if they enjoy jungle the most, now won't they?
>I payed for the game
>It's a free game
at least half of the people ITT wish they could erp with an Ahri-roleplayer
>Playing different champions to see how they feel and different roles to see what fits you the best is a bad idea
>See someone play an interesting champion, can't try it out for yourself unless you buy it or wait for free rotates
>Regret buying it, wasted currency to play it a few times to realize it's not for you
Popstar Azir when?
>Summons rabid fan girls that scuffle with enemy champs for Azirs attention / security guards that attack that say "SIR, I NEED YOU TO BACK UP"
>Flies to rabid fan girls and snaps a quick picture with them / quick autograph or security guards telling them good job
>Ult is he yells SECURITY and a line of stage security guards pushes the plebs away from the stars with a bunch of fake fans trying to push through but failing.
fair enough that can happen. but if you play long enough you have probably either played most chars or have a good idea if a char will suck for you or not just by watching the videos.
I think their system is rather fair. You can play the game for free, no p2w bullshit. The only reason you need to spend a dime in it is if you want new skins or can't be bothered to save some IP/wait for new rotation week
Pandering is just shallow. It will always lead to pleasing the lowest common denominator thus destroying whatever nuance that made the product special or interesting.
Pop music does it. McDonald's does it. Politics does it. Now vidya does it.
It's the only way a big company can keep going. It's that "too big to fail mentality"
>making a weeaboo fag skin for a weeaboo fag character who already has a lot of skins already
I'm more concerned that they fuck their games balance up solely to sell skins for these shitty characters
>Nidalee will never be actually nerfed because she has a skin that's locked behind a bundle
If the game is made TO pander, then it's likely to end up being a shit game, if the game is made, THEN panders (extra skins/content) then it's likely to be ok or at least ignorable and playable.
Not to defend pandering so much, but if you deliver a fun/interesting game and later give the option for bikinis/habits(nun) then it's perfectly fine in my book.
DOA beach volleyball is horrible, DOA5 is a fun fighting game, but holy shit do they go overboard on those costumes.
>it's giving autist weaboos shit to fap over
> and making the characters/story more puerile and juvenile as a consequence
League's story hasn't mattered since they fired their writing staff and stopped doing the Journal of Justice, and stopped giving reasons for why characters exist.
And the chjaracters have always just been either pop culture jokes or similar.
It's funny how it's gets defended as some amazing strategy to help players learn to play and become better, but it's really just there to make working a minimum wage job and paying more worthwhile than grinding games
>Why does /v/ hate blatant pandering?
>/v/ is one person
Pandering is bad when it's out of context or detracts from more important parts of the game.
There's nothing wrong with it outside of that.
It's also a great way to differentiate good Yasuos from bad ones.
Because for some reason every MGR Yasuo sucks donkey balls.
Also, I'm saddened that I got so hype for Yasuo's release because of MGR and then I ended up not liking his playstyle.
>tfw no solaire leona
>tfw new nautilus skin is beautiful but naut sucks dick
violently fuck your stupid ass until you stop being a cheeky cunt in a metaphoric way
Well, this is a new one. What's the difference between "natural gameplay" and "artificial gameplay"?
And why does it make you so angry? Do you hate having something to work for? Does unlocking new things to use make your ass that red?
>these Veigar changes
Looks like Im going to have to bury another champ I love, right next to Sion and Taric's old ultimate
I might as well start digging a plot for Yorick too fuck riot
i don't know what "gentle" means and i am running out of pictures to crop
Well Dota 2 has this thing called Limited Heroes mode where you're given a selection of 30 or so very simple characters to choose from to help you learn.
LoL is also the only moba that doesn't have a built in player guide system.
you just want me to keep posting and i don't even get to fuck ahri
they made his Q a skillshot cause the game doesnt have enough of those, and they put a .75 second delay on his stun, as if it wasnt easy enough to dodge in the first place
they also took away the extra 20% AP on his ulti, even though they said they wanted to give him more damage to make up for removing DFG
There isn't anything sacred anymore
Veigar needed those changes because at higher elo his stun range was just too huge. People wouldn't use it for the purpose of zoning a person out, but instead aiming it so that people would get hit at max range from the gate, get stunned, and then the team would just follow up and kill them. Put mobility boots on Veigar and no one is going to be able to escape a stun from him without flashing or using gap closing abilities to get away.
a .75 delay on it means that people won't be doing this anymore, support veigar will go away, and he'll be set back into the middle lane as an AP mid burst caster like he was meant to be.
This is a picture of my account right now.
No one in the world can do everything on Viktor 100% correctly all the time, so theres no point in playing him really when you can just play a champion like Lissandra instead and make sure you don't throw an entire game off not landing an ability correctly.
I don't think you know what elo is, do you
So I get punished because yet again riot has gotten their panties in a bunch over people playing champs in an "unintended" way
Besides, there are already plenty of champs that can use gap closer abilities to avoid his stun when Im not using boots of mobility, which I never have on him, so that delay gives them plenty of time to dash away even if I catch them off guard. Now its even worse because non gap closer champs can just walk out of it if they're near the edge, unless they're completely retarded
I remember the same fate that Karma had to suffer
>gameplay style that no other champ had
>almost nobody used, so mid Karma was something you couldn't predict how it could go
Then, rework, everything went to shit, etc
I don't think many companies go that in-depth on how to play. Usually, they give you a general idea of the character's abilities and let the players decide how they want to roll with it. Riot just hand holds you into a cookie cutter.
>as if it wasn't easy enough to dodge in the first place
veigar scrub detected? If you want(ed) to be a master of Veigar you placed your stun circle so that the enemy was always on the outside edge of it, stunning them instantly. In the hands of a good Veigar player there WAS no dodging it.
They want to balance around a very specific meta, one that has been maintained for years now. Creative and innovative ways to play disrupt and distort the meta, so they are removed.
It's retarded, but it's why they do it.
Actually, I hit it all the time if they're in my range, but the range of it is mediocre and Veigar has no gap closer or movement speed buff of his own, which many champs have now, so actually getting in range to use it is the hard part
Veigar has two skills that automatically hit no matter what you do, I wouldn't say he relies on his stun to "hit with his shit". He has one skill that he needs to use his stun (or good prediction) to hit with.
If it works, why not use it?
>If it works, why not use it?
Clearly that mentality has been used before, and riot has shown that they'll nerf champs if you get too far from their idea of "how you should play"
