>ready for an immersive game
>Mutant thing the size of a pig is charging at me
>less than 10 feet away
>aim dead square at its forehead
>it doesn't die
>it doesn't even flinch
>Shoot it in the head 5 more times
>it finally dies
That is fucking infuriating. I could understand if it was some huge leviathan or something but that rifle round would have stopped it dead. Fucking horse shit!
>thinking Ukrainian garbage rifle is going to put down a mutated boar
> not playing on master difficulty
your bullets will do more damage as well as the enemies. Try again
>thick as fuck skull, then add in magical radiation
>surprised when multiple headshots from anything that isn't a high powered rifle cartridge doesn't immediately put it down
Use crouch or low crouch and stay near vegetation. Turn off your flashlight.
Some mods also make the AI super fucking smart (or dumb), play around with the AI settings to find a setting you think is the most realistic to you.
no no no no no no.
Don't start with that shit. Look if I'm playing a game that is supposed to be gritty and realistic and I die easily, fine, I like that. But the trade off is that if I shoot a head made of flesh and bone at point blank range, that motherfucker better die.
It's a video game. And you could argue that a super mutated alien infected with fucking magic bullshit could withstand a couple shots to the head. Maybe it has a stronger brain that can still think while damaged. You don't know. It's a fantasy magic pig.
>powerful enough to get through mutant boar skull and take them down in one shot
I mean, this is making the stupid assumption that a high powered cartridge would stop them. You're talking inches of muscle and bone and then mutated brain tissue. Plus, this is ignoring game balance. A single rifle round putting down a boar would be boring as fuck.
Mutants being a bit spongy early-game? Who would have thought.
I hated that to. There is nothing that pisses me off more in a game than finding a nice weapon only to find out that it is weak is fuck. I fucked around with the gamedata to make it a little more 'realistic' and the game was a blast.
You just wanted to start a STALKER thread, didn't you?
Dont lie faggot, its illegal to lie on the internet
Use it or don't bother. Bullets vanish if you aren't using master difficulty . Also don't expect the best stealth in this game except for range like using the VSS and shooting far away. It can be done but they have magic ears sometimes.
Bullets have real projectile physics too. No hitscan in stalker
How come Ainsley's face got so many edits?
Don't be beta. It's a great game just has a hard learning curve. 1st stalker is good but call of Pripyat is the best IMO. Once u get the hang of it you will love it.
Then what were you using? The 5.45x39 is the only rifle available to you until you get to at least the garbage. You aren't going to find any 5.56 for a little while after that.
>Was using a 7.62
No you weren't, unless you're playing some shit mod on your first playthrough in which case kek, good job ignoring all advice from those "NEW TO STALKER?" images and the general on /vg/
Or, perchance, re you a fucking retarded manchild and are starting with CoP, the third installment in the series?
It's a fucking mutated boar, retard. A boar that hasn't been incredibly mutated has a thick as fuck skull.
CoP was my first STALKER despite how much my friends hounded me to play it First time playing through was using the Schwartz mod on Veteran Top fucking 5 vidya experiences of my life
I regret nothing
CHECK THE /VG/ THREADS
COMPLETE IS A MOD THAT WAS SHIT WHEN IT CAME OUT IN 2009, WAS A BUGGY MESS THAN THAT MADE THE GAME PISS EASY
IT HASN'T CHANGED
Not who you quoted, but why? I just installed SoC for the first time with the complete mod.
I'm guessing it's a bad idea. Should I use the mods that are mentioned in >>284738068
SoC you fucking baka goyim.
MAYBE skip Clear Sky, but play it first and formulate your own opinion. The games are tiny in filesize.
As for mods, ask /vg/ Most sane non retarded people will suggest playing with no mods other than fixes such as ZRP or shader fixes. Playing gameplay altering mods on your first playthrough should be avoided because it's not something like Skyrim which is inherently shit.
No. If you're playing for the first time you follow pic related and nothing fucking else.
>Try killing a boar in real life with anything less than 12 gage with a slug round or a magnum.
>Proceed to claim that a .22 magnum will work
That's what the other anon said, you fucking Freedom-sympathizing shitlord.
I recently installed to play vanilla and the game is completely black. The only thing that isn't like that is the camp fire in the first village and the muzzle flash of my pistol.
Does anyone know a fix because I never had problems running Stalker SOC on my computer before.
Posts like this are the reason I don't post in /sg/ any more. I've made hundreds of posts there, but it's all gone downhill the past 6 weeks or so. That recent Kotaku article about STALKER didn't help.
>gears of wars
anyways just remindind all the newfags into STALKER that Clear sky should be played second after you finish SoC, then CoP, and if you need a mod to play it use road to limasnk
Is there a graphics mod that doesn't fuck the gameplay of SOC yet? I remember playing Complete back in 2009 and doubt I could go back and play the base game with its shit graphics now.
Go install AA 2.1 and play on master, no crosshair.
>there are people on /v/ that played SoC with Complete because it was the first thing that showed up in google, and didn't even aask /vg/ for info
What, because the /sg/ frequenter sshit on people who start with the third installment of the game or something?
Because it's perfectly playable vanilla (assuming you patch it) and it lets you actually appreciate and understand how modding changes the game.
Yeah, check out the stalker general on /vg/ There are starter packs that contain graphical enhancements. Stuff like shader improvements and general environmental/structure texture enhancements. There's also hat huge-ass photorealistic zone mod, which is just a complete graphical overhaul with none of the ass-tier changes that come with shit like Complete.
Your best source of info will be /vg/, though.
I got all three STALKER games during some Steam sale.
Installed SoC. Installed Complete 2009. Played for a total of 12 hours, got bored and kept getting bored after 10 minutes after starting it. Tried vanllia for a few hours, which was horrible, then tried with LURK. some deal as with Complete 2009.
Followed /v/'s advice and tried CoP instead. Same fucking deal as with SoC.
These STALKER games are shit, not hard or scary at all, and I played on fucking stalker difficulty.
>Ended up having an abundance of ammo
>Snorks easy as fuck
>Bloodsuckers are a pushover
>Retarded fucking AI
Thanks but no thanks /v/. You have great taste most of the time, but this shit was just boring. Not bad, just boring.
>there's people on 4chan who actually suggest that your first stalker should be CoP
>and completely ignore Cs
>and then finish it with SoC
And yes im fucking looking at you /sg/
>and I played on fucking stalker difficulty
If you don't enjoy playing vanilla try playing it with complete mod, it changes the game a lot. I ,for instance, prefere the complete version over vanilla even with all the hardcore stalker fans getting butthurt about this.
It kinda piss me off too, Cs history is as important as CoP yet people hate it for "bugs" or some other bullshit thing, besides that the faction war is bugged a little but still.
ask everyone here why they hate Cs.
>Installed SoC. Installed Complete 2009.
>and I played on fucking stalker difficulty
>What, because the /sg/ frequenter sshit on people who start with the third installment of the game or something?
The best of the series is SoC.
Or whatever the hard difficulty was.
/sg/ kept saying
>PLAY IT HARDEST DIFFICULTY OR DON'T PLAY AT ALL
Can't remember the fucking cryptic difficulty setting names, shit.
>Complete on first playthrough
>and I played on fucking stalker difficulty.
Don't blame the games anon. This one's on you. You built this future.
I've always been told that Clear Sky is the weakest entry, and because I don't know how bad "weakest entry" is, I never played it, even though I completed SoC and CoP multiple times.
But now this thread is motivating me, so I'll go download it.
My favorite is Clear sky, and i disliked the emptyness of Call of pripyat, seriously, what are you supposed to do once you finish a mission? stay idle for one whole ingame day on the loner base to make everything re-spawn?
the place is emtpy in overrall and the maps aren't even that big.
is either a hit or miss, but you MUST use the le miserables add on, the mod IS artificial difficulty but the mod make it more enjoyable.
>really like CS
>road to limansk always crashes when i make a new game
>want to play CS badly but can't play vanilla again
But why? What started the whole thing?
I always hear people suggesting against CS, when in reality, the game was great. I really did enjoy it, and even more than unmodded CoP.
I've tried CS a couple of times but I absolutely hate the messages from different factions asking you to defend shit. I want to explore and do stalker things and not run to designated spoits on the map to shoot dudes. I'm going to give it another try once Roat to Limansk comes out.
Fucking CoP fags, anyways, here's a few recommendations, the game let you side with any faction you want oh, and other thing you need to remember before you go to chernobyl, don't bring an exo or ak ammo.
pic related is what you are gonna enjoy on the first day playing.
its the buggiest of the 3 and the ai can be retarded like the other games
i found clear sky to be better than cop anyway since its more like soc even revisiting the same maps
that only really happens in the swamp area
i like all the new stuff but it crashes alot and performance is fucked up
i also tried soup a long time ago and had way to many crashes and broken quests
>there are people genuinely thinking the STALKER series is good
The only redeeming feature these games have is the hilariously bad AI. Literally everything else feels like and plays like riding tricycle with square wheels and a 200 kg lead-weight hanging from one side of the steering wheel, so you crash every 10 fucking minute.
The environments are the only good part, how they worked on that for so long only to fuck it up so bad is beyond me.
I always want to go back to these games but when I do I end up just reinstalling CoP with the latest version of misery because I'm too lazy to do more and its just not quite what I want anymore, feels like there are less blowouts than there used to be or something, or the environment just doesn't have me on my toes as much. Don't get me wrong its not like its gotten easier, just feels more like the mod is more tedious than a much older version that crashed at the end of the first area for me used to be. Does Les Miserables fix this at all?
I still find CoP the most enjoyable since you can get a usable weapon fairly quickly. I found CoP really fucking offputting since you're stuck with abysmal weapons until you find an AK-74 at the end of the Swamp, and the constant demands from your respective faction.
I probably need to sit down and give it a second chance though. SoC had a bad early game, but turned into pure sex come midgame.
Fuck, I'm talking about Clear sky and the bad early game.
>What started the whole thing?
one thing for sure, is something with CoP.
no idea, Clear sky is playable.
fun fact anon.
you don't play as a loner and neither you are supposed to do stuff of loners.
>replay Stalker with the AMK
>be stuck in Cordon
>grind like hell to get 30K to buy the what the name long rifle buckshot with 2 shots
>is pretty great and lets me go ahead
>find out that in Clear Sky is the first and shittiest weapon
alright I'm just putting it into a rar file after that I'll upload it. this thread seems to be slowing down so incase I don't make it before it 404's check the stalker general in /vg/
anyone here play SoC with autumn aurora? definitely one of the best mods ive played
im still getting through the story so i dont know if the a-life is that great but DAMN this is highest levels of stalker immersion
I haven't played it personally, but I hear good things about it. Pic related.
>played through all of SoC without realizing you could use ironsights, on normal
>crosshair enabled in STALKER
You sicken me.
oh shit nigger what are you doing
>playing anything less than master
Master only affects accuracy. For everyone.
i wish my autmn aurora ran that smoothly
for some reason every other stalker mod, even atmosfear and the absolute textures, i get 90fps but with 2.1 it goes down to 40
even turning off enb didn't give me any more frames
People really underestimate how thick some Game's skulls can be. Throw in the fact that these animals are grossly mutated thanks to magical game radiation and it's a wonder headshots even with 9x39 do damage to them.
But you'll get way more up to date info from /vg/'s STALKER threads.
love feeling like an operator
Stalker runs like shit in general, but it is particularly punishing for FX AMD chips (the older phenoms and athlons work well when clocked over about 3.2ghz).
I think it is 3.2ghz at least, there is some engine fuckery that means you want to hit at least that for good performance.
lmao. Tested with a Makarov. You can test it yourself if you want. Use the ZRP options.
I have an overclocked FX-4350 which works well for the Stalker games. I assume you mean the 6 and 8 core CPUs that have problems. Why anyone would get a 6 or 8 core CPU for playing games, though, is beyond me.
> playing a total disaster by a shitty studio which is literally a disappointment rollercoaster
i actually have an intel g3258, which isn't the best but vanilla or OL/AMK stalker i get ~120fps, graphics mods i get ~90fps, and with AA2.1 i get literally 40-50fps, sometimes it drops down to 30 even if i set all the graphics to low and turn off enb/sweetfx. i dunno what the fuck is going on. im going to try overclocking the processor to 4.5ghz and see if that helps
I used to underestimate too, and then I played Cabela's Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts
I don't know if it's actually realistic or not but it made me realize how thick skulls can be
also adamantium ribs
Grigorovich never delivered on any promises he made, he just bought himself a ferrari and abandoned ship. The whole studio was just a bunch of hacks working on their Warcraft mod, who then created an Age of Empires ripoff, only to create a low budget, interactive russian tv show later, which was so horrible at release, that even the most devoted ukranian fans gave up on that turd.
I wonder why western folk enjoy gobbling that crap so much. Probably the setting, when something is rare, people gonna protect it to the death, no matter how shitty it is.
>implying playing with no crosshair makes the game harder in any significant way
>implying you cant cheese the shit out of stalker regardless of what settings you put it on
please dont be so entitled.
>STALKER 2 will never happen
>there will never be Slav girl stalkers
>you will never have a Slavic trash waifu
>>implying playing with no crosshair makes the game harder in any significant way
Literally no one ever said that. It's just that it's unreliable and, at the time, people still had a taste for hipfiring weapons instead of using the ironsights. Also immersion.
>>implying you cant cheese the shit out of stalker regardless of what settings you put it on
Literally everyone and their mother knows you can cheese STALKER games.
>tfw no mod for stalker girls
>tfw no mod for stalker anime girls
Fucking loving my playthrough of AA so far. A G36 dropped from a stalker in the Wild Territory, so I ran around and bought all the 5.56 I could before going to X16, and I'm dropping bandits in 2-3 body shots. I'm going semi-auto only, because I don't need full auto fire. Don't even need to stop for headshots, which is good, because enemies drop you as fast as you drop them.
So with what difficulty should I start my first run. I'm not a hardcore gamer and if I die a lot I rage quit and uninstall, so recommend me something that will keep me for a while and maybe for in love with it.
The problem with playing on anything but Master is that the game will make bullets from everything but sniper rifles disappear at random. They may strike, but they won't deal damage. On Novice, this is a 40% chance. The only thing this does is turn every enemy into a bullet sponge and make you waste a fuckton of ammo. You're tankier too, but if enemies get the drop that badly on you, you're probably dead anyway.
So Master. Play vanilla, aim for the head, learn to flank, use 9 to toggle between full-auto and semi-auto. Pistols are worthless after the Cordon.
>bored as fuck
>continue on for an hour anyways
Yet another game with potential that never hit the mark, that /v/ decides to worship for that sole fact.
>someone was mad enough at people who dislike his precious little game that he made this image
THANK YOU, I've beaten CoP countless times, beat SoC, but never played or bought Clear Sky until a week or two ago due to the /v/ hate. I am having a blast.
I don't think any other Stalker games throws so many damn human bodies at you, it really feels like a war, as oppose to the more "adventure" feel of SoC and "survival" feel of CoP.
It's the first game to make me feel excited to come home from work in a couple years.
Only major complaint thus far is the laser precision entire squads of the AI are able to throw grenades. It's a pain.
Sorry, but not every shooter can (or should) be memelands.
Autumn Aurora. Built off of ZRP, which was mostly bugfixes. It changes all the vegetation to brown/orange autumn, integrates ENB, makes everything much more lethal, adds AtmosFear (previously only existed for CoP), better textures, general graphics improvements, lots of new models (pic related, Freedom exoskeleton), and adds a bunch of new guns, like the Saiga, Bison, and FN FAL.
>Only major complaint thus far is the laser precision entire squads of the AI are able to throw grenades. It's a pain.
that's what you get for playing the last russian mission on veterean you mongol...Ups wrong game, that's bound to happen, bandits have this mean of self defense, don't worry, until yantar you just waste stamina to run after the grenade fall next to you.
and yes, is a war, that's what the game is about "factions at war" while clear sky works on the background of the game in secret trying to kill strelok to save everyone, here's a tip, join loners, and don't join duty or freedom until you made it to the army warehouses.
Ok so, I played through SoC and thought it was alright. I tried playing through CoP but after a few hours I just can't continue.
Are there any actual good overhauls, tweaks, whatever that make CoP not play like ass? I'm not really concerned with graphical mods. I looked over the Stalker general list of links, but those google docs are such a clusterfuck it's not very helpful.
>tfw went CoP and then CS with SoC last
it was lots of fun and I had a blast
Thanks, that's really interesting.
It wasn't an issue for me until I hit Garbage, which, now that I think of it, is pretty much all bandit.
I've already joined the "STALKERS" faction, are they separate then loners? Loners appear as yellow and stalkers in green, did I miss my chance?
I really enjoy that when a faction is well supplied, their squads start using some of the more interesting weapons, usually with mods. I was able to snag a fancy NATO gun that has been a huge help.
Those of you who, like me, have avoided CS, give it a try!
I think AMK is something everyone needs to play. Not as polished as Autumn Aurora but damn if it isn't satisfying.
But honestly, play what you want.
Shoker if you can run it, Arsenal Overhaul if you cant. Wait for
weird, if you are really playinf Cs vainilla then all loners will be green because they are one single faction. remember how on SoC a group of loners says "brothers help us we are in deep shit"? loners were very joined on the past im not spoiling you anything but one post have the map with all the artifacts
they don't respawn so don't sell them
also keep using the clear sky Mark II armor is the best armor before a tier III.
Anyone has the webm of that stalker npc sneaking behind two bandits and taking them down?
Never played a Stalker game but looking to pick them up, what's stalker difficulty?
>mfw suicide charged through a building full of monolith guys and lived
my riifle fu is that nigger one called ak 9f30 or something like that, generally dropped from duty.
shotgun is spas-12, and my pistolfu is that glock.
>pripyat building a top of lab.
Thanks for making me reinstall CoP. What mod should I put onto it?
Yes, highly so. I beat SoC 3 or 4 years ago, picked up some mods, but never finished the game again. I'll probably beat it again now. It's the perfect "Vanilla+" mod, doesn't change the gameplay too much, but adds some depth and makes it a hell of a lot prettier.
Depends on what you're looking to get out of it. I haven't played AMK for more than half an hour, though I put a fair bit of time into ZoA (which is based off AMK), but both strike me more as being something you play for the experience, rather than finishing the game.
AtmosFear, Absolute Nature, and MSO. Combine them all.
Probably. There are a few clipping issues with some of the models.
No one ever talks about this. EVER. As far as I know from lurking /sg/ for years all the STALKER problems seem to come from the cpu. You need a superb cpu to run this game smoothly and even then you'll still get some stutter and possible frame drops.
That was from a beta of Road to Limansk. The complete mod isn't out yet but I think /sg/ has a file of it.
>stop to check out the corpse right by the entrance
>look at the spooky skeleton in the little control room
>wonder why on earth I'm playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and doing X18 no less, at night before I go to bed
>hear sound that doesn't sound like the ambient lab noise
>THERE'S A FUCKING BURER IN THE ROOM, WHAT THE FUCK, THERE ARE NO BURERS IN X18
>hits me with his psi thing
>he uses his psi-shield bullshit to block every bullet
>hits me again
Scared me so badly. Reloaded, got him as he ran up the staircase. Took an entire magazine of 5.56 to drop him.
And then another one showed up.
Reloaded again, and this time I used a Saiga. Shotguns 2stronk.
And then I laughed at some faggot who called the game boring because he couldn't be arsed to get past the Cordon.
Thanks. Now I started playing SoC again and I forgot I was at the Red Forest stop the brain scorcher bit. I don't even remember getting here. Last time I played I remember being very drunk fighting through the Monolith soldiers on the way to where the Brain Scorcher lives.
But nows there's all these spooky ghost versions of mutants chasing me and I have no ammo for my good gun, I've got a shotgun with 6 shells and a silenced .45 with 16 shots. Lets see if I can do this.
>tfw ZoA doesn't work
>can't go back to any other mod because muh immersion
Autumn Aurora 2.1.
This place is too spoopy, pls halp.
Surprise attacks are fucking terrifying holy shit I remember wandering around the outskirts of the zombie infested mill in CoP with nothing but the sound of rain hitting the ground. There were three fucking bloodsuckers slowly creeping up on me and no amount of lube could save me.
I need to play again
>in the wild territory obtaining Big Ben
>finally find it and get back out
>occasionally see things skittering away from my flashlight
>hear something unsettling
>pseudodog point blank
>blast its face off with a shotgun
>hear a cacophony of howls and cries
>suddenly there are literally hundreds of rats and dogs charging me
>start blasting away while running
>snorks flying out of shadows from every direction
>bloodsuckers popping up everywhere
>run into a field of anomalies I charted out earlier
>still remember the safe path
>get my back to a wall and keep firing as the hordes charge into electro field
>eventually they die down
>14 rounds left between all of my guns
>make my way out
>find a group of stalkers around a campfire
>start trading when someone yells something
>grenade explodes killing the person I was trading with
>load the few rounds I traded for and charge forward
>kill the ones who attacked us
>go back and have a drink of vodka with the others as they mourn their fallen comrade
>continue on my way
