Why is /v/ so much more focused on Japanese games compared to the rest of the video game consumer base?
Because Japanese games are better than Western trash.
Japan still makes games. The west makes "experiences".
The thinking is that, unless you're talking about a competitive CoD type of game, most consumers aren't going to play a game long enough or with enough skill to discern good, well-designed gameplay vs. flashy, style over substance 'press X to awesome" coddling, and will actually prefer games that make them feel good right away instead of pushing them to learn or get better. Even a lot of "serious" players prefer this, if you go by the endless NeoGAF posts complimenting games that "respect the player's time" (which in their minds is to make things smooth and easygoing).
Stuff like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Naughty Dog games etc. are experiences. There's minimal challenge and no real, meaty gameplay systems to dig into and master, but they look good, and they make you feel awesome without much effort. That's what people like, production values and power fantasies.
I always believed the Nintendo fans loved E3 2014 thanks to the comfy as fuck Treehouse stream. E3 2015 has the potential to totally blow for Nintendo, especially if their game lineup is weak.
The western lineup is fairly predictable and safe these days - new Madden, new FIFA, new Call of Duty, new Assassin's Creed, with delayed Battlefield, Need for Speed and Tom Clancy games.
I barely even play any western games anymore, none of them catch my interest really. I'm sure I'm not the only one bored of classic and generic fantasy/medieval/steampunk settings, and that's all the west seems to pump out.
Not sure why the Nintendo guys are unhappy. They had the best presentation by a wide margin. Xbox won "best of the losers", and Sony was just an embarrassment. And I say all this as a Sony fan.
There wasn't any bullshots or anything.
Course it's more easy to lie to build false hype to maximize sales but I'm glad they don't do that.
>tfw no other company will do Treehouse or directs
>implying there's even a shred of truth to the 'before' pic
It felt like Sony had 1 hour and 1 minute of content and decided to round up instead of down. So much unnecessary stuff.
I agree to an extant.
I never did quite understand how a Japanese company can make the same game for 30 years, and get nothing but love and adoration for it. Meanwhile, American or Western developers do the samething, but "oh, it's the same fucking game, drink your dew DEWd bros!" It's a mystery to me.
>tfw Scalebound exists
>director: Hideki fucking Kamiya
Yeah Bitch, Bitch, BITCH!
My smoke, my butane
My boots, my headphones, my medicated noose
My deadroom, my schwartzwald hat, my Mac
My macaque skull, my lysergic stash
Empty streets at night, my bike
Apartment sink filled with dry ice
Condemned tenement, brandished rail spike
Disturb in flat noir and stale white
Grey cloud curled around my bearded compound like boa
One of two thunderbolt we ain't broke on tour
Concrète antique trapdoor twenty-four
Spots to get that get right
When I gotta get right some more
Type of get right I can't afford
I covet these things more than any living
I've never been
Do you seriously have to ask him? With that sort of statement the dude will probably say something utterly fucking retarded like "Borderlands", and everyone with laugh at him.
I'll save you time and do the 7th gen
2007: Halo 3
2008: Fallout 3
2010: Red Dead Redemption
2012: Mass Effect 3
2013: The Last of Us
2014: MGS 5
Other than that teaser, was there ever any other info about Scalebound?
So, predictions for E3 2015?
Bethesda's doing something this year, hopefully we'll get something other than Fallout Boston. If they waste any time with ESO /v/ will shit on them.
Xbone this year will have Halo, Scalebound, Crackdown, Killer Instinct, a racing game or three, and the usual 3rd party stuff.
EA will have no1curr
Ubisoft will have Assassin's Creed London, one game that's a complete waste of time like they have every year, and all the Tom Clancy you could ever want.
Sony will have everything leaked 2 days before the presentation.
I haven't a clue what Nintendo is going to talk about other than Zelda and Star Fox.
> select all sushi
fuck you captcha now I'm hungry
Absolutely pleb tier taste.
>Mass Effect 3
Guy you replied to. I love the Souls games. A CGI trailer saying "hey, new souls game" is nice, but doesn't mean too much. Nintendo had tons of games, and more gameplay shown than the rest of the conferences combined thrice over. I like whatever is good, and I've owned every Sony and Nintendo console. I wish Sony's conference wasn't shit, but it was. "Look how many times we pressed the Share Button! Look, 'exclusives' that are only timed exclusives! Oh boy, movies!"
1994: Donkey Kong Country

2012: Max Payne 3
2013: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
2014: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
That's mine. I'm not saying I hate Jap games, but I really think Western stuff at it's finest is more appealing for video games.
To me it's Great Western Game > Great Japanese game > Average Western > Average Japanese > Bad japanese > bad western
Yeah, this E3 is going to suck, isn't it?
Bethesda's doing Fallout for sure, and Obsidian probably isn't so fuck. Another presentation filled with Todd Howard's lies.
I never actually understood why Bethesda RPGs get so much media hype when they look like total garbage and don't play very well. It's one of those anomalies in video games that I'm sort of glad exists because I enjoy those games, but I can't believe people play them without mods.
>Donkey Kong x4
>Punch Out Wii
>Fucking Lego game
Thanks for that anon, literally laughed out loud in the library.
Because Japanese companies aren't making "the same game". If you believe that silly meme, you're on your own. Mario games are never "the same", and even differ noticeably in the rather samey NSMB series. And games that do get too samey (Pokemon sometimes) get shit for it.
West sucks save for a few devs like Rockstar and Obsidian. Slavs are great devs, and so are Japs. Japan puts out the best games. Always have, always will.
Bethesda will unveil Fallout 4. possibly give a teaser for TES 6.
Call of Duty WW1 or WW2 from Treyarch. (it might actually be ok)
Halo 5 finally ready to go.
Assassin's Creed 5: China/Japan
>a new FPS franchise.
It was mentioned mostly to boost sales from P fans and fill space, the game was leaked to have a release date of march 2016 by a neogaf insider that resulted to be a shill paid by MS to "leak" stuff after a terrible year of sales of the xbone and was told to "leak" stuff to hype the hardest of the core market.
