>SMG does less damage per shot than pistol of the same caliber
>Rifle does damage equal to pistol
Why do games do this?
There are pros and cons to every type of weapon. Many of which can't be coded or implemented into a game correctly. When has the length of an assault rifle ever been a problem when clearing houses in a game?
You don't respawn in reality :^) Maybe you shouldn't play games.
If you're incapable of accurately representing the merits of two vastly different platforms then you're lazy for forcing a compromise.
SMGs have lower potential for incapacitation because they damage significantly less tissue than rifle rounds. Standard loads lack the ability to defeat soft armor, they won't punch through harder barriers or bone like rifle projectiles do. They don't have as flat of a trajectory as rifle rounds do.
yeah dude it's true 99% of all FPS makers have been lazy assholes
it's definitely not because they're making games that barely have anything to do with realistic military scenarios with real-life weapons as only thematic flavor
wouldn't that be funny though haha
Because devs can't into asymetrical balance, or just have weapons be accurate, and have players figure out which ones work for them the best instead of just making them all the same and stupid.
Like, is it really that hard to model things so that pistol is just not on the same level as a automatic rifle, and just let players deal with it, instead of going "Somehow, I have to make this snubnose revolver equally as good as an AK-47"
However, in response to OP, check out ARMA.
>pistol is pinpoint accurate, even at great distances.
this shit has me running through games just headshoting dudes with the first gun.(single player games.)
not fullauto doesn't mean super accurate.
There's other ways to balance it besides damage you know.
Pistols already don't need to be on the same level as Rifles and above SMGs because they're almost always "secondary" weapons
As for SMG vs. Rifle, you could give the SMG faster movement speed, or tighter hip fire, or a faster reload, or even let it salvage ammo from dropped pistols.
I fucking hate when games make pistols the best weapons because of "balance"
I say make the shooting physics as realistic as possible and whatever works, works.
If it's OP then too bad faggot we're not going to misrepresent reality to satisfy your delusions. Halofags are the worst at this, they'll praise the CE pistol all day and be proud that they found out it instakills hunters, like exploiting the game makes them genius bad-asses. At least it's a fantasy game though, so it gets more slack.
>LMG does less damage per shot than pistol and the same as smg
I also hate how they make them some weird pray-and spray guns that require you to get even closer than with smgs, because rifles are way better at medium and long range.
>Smaller guns are less affected by movement, but have greater recoil per shot
>Pistols can be switched to faster
>SMGs have high rate of fire but bullets are slow and lose damage over distance
>Machine guns have lots of ammo and do more damage against vehicles
>Sniper rifles gain bullet damage over distance
>Super weapons can't get ammo refills, but can still be salvaged by acid
no more room in hell does it right. the mac10 is completely worthless since it eats through .45 ammo super quick, when you can just use a 1911 and get one free kill for every bullet instead.
It's already balanced in real life, different guns exist for different usage scenarios.
Bolt actions +700m
Battle rifles or LMGs with weight penalty and loose chambers 300-700m
Assault rifles, 50-300m
Pistol caliber SMGs 0-50m
Pistols for fighting back to the rifle you never should have put down in the first place.
of course there's weapon balance in real life, different weapons are good in different situations
if devs are too lazy to emulate this then they shouldn't bother using "realistic" equipment
>Multi-barrel guns are the only guns that overheat
In close quarters, the most effective weapon is an SMG. Shotguns have limited range of movement, low rate of fire, and limited ammunition capacity.
Shotguns are basically used as breach weapons and little else.
Pistol takes hollow-points and SMG/Rifle take FMJ's, SMG does less damage because it produces less wound cavitation, the rifle makes up for the difference with kinetic energy.
SMG's are only used in real life tactcal operations because of the risk of over-penetration from conventional AR rounds, this is not a concern in a videogame, small form factor AR's are superior in every other way.
Nah, just need LMG up close and sniper at all other ranges
That's not true at all.
High velocity rifle rounds can pass through the body at close range, and leave without imparting severe damage in the target. The round takes all of it's energy with it as it leaves the body, thereby reducing the damage caused. Especially if nothing vital is struck.
Lower velocity pistol rounds stay in the body, and are a larger projectile. Staying in the body + bigger projectile = damage. A round that doesn't exit the body imparts all of its kinetic energy into the surrounding tissue. Causing more damage.
At least, this is how it was explained to me.
Yeah, don't try to argue terminal ballistics when you know literally nothing about the subject.
That's very outdated. There's a reason a lot of special forces and police SWAT units are moving away from MP5s and towards short-barreled M4s. Rifle rounds travel much faster, but they tend to fragment or tumble after hitting something because of their high velocity, whereas 9mm ball actually does overpenetrate.
Where's the pistol round comparison?
Where's the listed range?
Does one picture make you an expert on the subject?
Yep. PDWs are an attempt to retain the SMG concept and advantages - smaller size, lower recoil - while having the power and armor penetration capability of a rifle.
>hurr durrr I know nothing about standardized FBI gel tests
>High velocity rifle rounds can pass through the body at close range, and leave without imparting severe damage in the target
Conventional knowledge dictates that if you have something GOING THROUGH YOUR INTERNAL ORGANS, they're going to be damaged.
A bullet traveling at high speed doesn't enter and exit and create a nice vacuum seal for the wound to stay nice and clean.
>get proven wrong
>WHY ARE YOU BEING SUCH A BITCH
>You're not dead when you get hit by whatever
Games arent made to be realistic, most of the time like in l4d its a balance thing and assault rifles just make better looking tier 2 weapons.
They're decent weapons, but expensive as fuck and often require some re-training, whereas pretty much every soldier east of Berlin has experience with an M4 or similar firearm.
>Max Payne 3 multiplayer
>9 times out of 10 you will be killed by someone with dual pistols if you aren't using pistols yourself because they're better than every other weapon in the game
>Fun is literally toxin to them
pick one, milsims are great.
I don't understand how anyone has fun playing shitty RPG games where you cast magic missile until some stupid dragon dies so you can get gold for your faggy looking elf to buy minotaurs to jerk off for a +3 bonus to dexterity.
I don't see why people brag about how they've lost all capacity for creative thinking or imagination.
Shooting a virtual terrorist with a heavily customized H&K 417 with a Trijicon TA31RCO gunsight doesn't make you better than someone who prefers to cast magic missile to kill a dragon.
Bitch, I'm over here casting illusion spells in a tavern to entertain a pair slutty, otherworldly 10/10 fey sisters and get them to ride my enchanted dick before I head out the next day to get a quest from the king who will give me a mansion for slaying some sick ass lich and you're sitting in a fucking mud hole, not allowed to leave for two hours before any action takes place in your sector, said action being some towelheads 600m away firing ineffectively at you and nothing else happening for the rest of the night.
The only thing I don't like is shotgun accuracy dropping off a cliff at more than a few feet out.
After reading more and more about guns I was playing resident evil rev 2 and I notived that barry's samurai edge did more damage than his rifle... I was like "lolwut" but I understand its for balance. It's just weird.
Shotgun thing upsets me though.
>I don't see why people brag about how they've lost all capacity for creative thinking or imagination.
How do you figure that?
You've got to be imaginative in your tactics and strategies to be able to overcome, instead of just having better gear that gives you a +20 bonus to all stats and being 10 levels higher than your opponents because you spent an additional 200 hours playing the game than some other guy did because he has a life and you don't.
Anyone in those games just ends up min-maxing everything anyway and just plays a numbers game.
At least for the milsim you have to think 2 seconds about positioning instead of "Creature is fire, use ice magic for x2 damage bonus, I win."
And you don't get that shit about how some newbie could never ever possibly harm you because he is lvl.1 and you are lvl. 100, and he'd kill himself trying to harm you since you've got some armor that gives off AOE damage shit.
Milsims make everyone equal, anyone has the fair chance to put a bullet in someone elses head if they can get the shot off, you aren't suddenly invincible because you bought a bunch of DLC packs and raided dungeons for a year before some other person picked the game up.
RPGs take the skill out of games and just make it only a matter of who's got better numbers and who's been playing longer.
Any game that tries to have a bladed melee weapon and a firearm balanced in the same setting is already unrealistic. Rifles obsoleted swords as a practical combat implement a long time ago. So if those two weapons coexist in the setting, I don't bother questioning its realism. In real life soldiers no longer carry swords.
No, not all, I know that. There's always a few indie games or some other little fringe games inside every genre that sort of breaks the mold, but I've played and seen far more RPGs that are money farms and just are numbers games than anything else.
