Is this the first time Obsidian has more than 1 year to develop a game?
I backed it for like 60 dollars (for all the cool shit), I am putting full trust on Obsidian here
If they fuck up now, there won't be any publishers to blame, there won't be any excuses they can make, and that's when they'll lose me.
I'm not particularly impressed based on the screenshots or videos, art is ok but animation is pretty barf worthy. We'll see how the writing goes.
I don't know much about it. Are there other playable races other than humans?
doesn't matter it still has so many bugs that break every system every time they patch the beta.
and somehow they already went gold. the 0day patch is gonna be a disaster, and for once they have no publisher to blame for their perpetual QA disasters
maybe in the expansion if they decided to expand on the lore and races
>mfw /v/ turns on obsidian like they turned on double fine
Looking pretty good. I have the beta and it's cool, but for me a lot of the fun of these games is battling mythological creatures and finding fucking awesome items, both of which the beta has none (it's only a side area with 3 or 4 quests meant to test gameplay mechanics).
I wonder how Obsidianfags will deal with it if it turns out to be bugged to hell and back now that there's no one else to blame.
Still I hope it's Good. I was broke as shit when their Kickstarter was up or I would have backed it like crazy. It could be so fucking good.
Combat is similar to BG1, 2 and Icewind dale. It's real-time with pause, but it won't use the DnD ruleset.
It has its own ruleset based around animation times instead of turns/rounds.
i like some of the decisions regarding dialogue options. There isn't a speech skill and instead relies on your previous actions opening up dialogue options (playing an aggressive playstyle will make people more intimidated by you).
Also they showed off an dungeon where you can get through it all via stealth and dialogue options.
Just something which I loved in the game, it's the Encyclopedia. It's this in-game wiki with game mechanics and a page for every single monster you enconter with hand-drawn art of it, lore and stats. I love browsing it.
Liches yes. No info about beholders.
>Josh Sawyer is a full-blown SJW, My hopes are dim.
the guy has unironically argued that games should have an unrealistically-high percentage of gay and tranny characters just so that "haters" and "bigots" are "forced to get used to" subhuman filth that in reality make up ~6% and ~0.1% of human populations
>It's gonna be a gameplay focused game anyway, and everybody knows obisidan can't into gameplay.
It hurts because it's true. The first test release just crushed my hopes, that goddamned attribute system...
Reminder that Triple A publishers already want a piece of the cake.
tried the beta
i have literally never played a game with clunkier combat. you can't move without dying from a thousand AoOs, so everything is just babysitting your immobile guys as they hack or shoot away, only its somehow made worse because there is no UI indication when a character is done with whatever command you gave them, and the idle animations are so fucking busy, and the characters blend into the backgrounds so fucking much, that you cannot tell what is happening. you have to constantly pause and keep giving commands, which would be fine if it was turn-based. RTwP sucks major ass for this kind of game.
on top of that the stats are fucking retarded. just like wasteland 2, no stat is a dump stat because everything is required or a character is useless. wizards have to be musclebound if they wanna do damage. barbarians have to be geniuses if they hope to ever hurt somebody wearing armor. all is faggot
of course not
you get some garbage and they run
then 2 years later they patch this shit up
5 years after that they start another kickstarter and everyone will be like HEY THAT GAME WAS PRETTY OKAY I WANT ANOTHER
THIS TIME THEY SURELY WILL DELIVER IM ABSOLUTELY SURE
DEVELOPERS WOULDN'T JUST LIE ON THE INTERNET WOULD THEY
rinse and repeat
>they'd have to fuck up the mega dungeon
Done, did you miss the stream?
For me the problem was the small size of the floors, the fact you can't get lost in them just proceed straight forward and that all the rooms they've shown so far are so bland as if they've been made with a procedural generator.
Not having dump stats isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The problem is more how the stats work don't make any conventional sense and its needlessly confusing trying to determine how to build a character. But yeah, wasteland 2 is a spot on comparison, as it is an equally confusing and poorly designed character generator.
Big Publishers thought that RPG community would keep buying their "RPGs" regardless of how shitty and DLC-infested they became.
BioWare's utter collapse and abandonment by all but the most skeevy of community members proved that assumption was WRONG. And, surprise surprise, Dudebros who only care about Cawadoody and Madden ONLY CARE ABOUT CAWADOODY AND MADDEN! They don't want to play gay fairy shit with twink elves and fedora wizards.
Publishers don't like seeing developers escape their grasp and make games they want. Fun, GOOD games pose an existential threat to AAA publishers like EA and Ubisoft whose business model became to pump out an overflowing stream of wet, substanceless shit. GOOD GAMES show that SHIT for what it is--SHIT. They want to get control over it again since kickstarter let a few honest developers escape them and start making games people want to play.
>and that all the rooms they've shown so far are so bland as if they've been made with a procedural generator.
they've shown the first two rooms. What did you expect to find in them aside from the typical zombies/skeletons/spiders/wraiths? They're low level areas.
>wizards have to be musclebound if they wanna do damage. barbarians have to be geniuses if they hope to ever hurt somebody wearing armor. all is faggot
yes, and? it is bad because it's not like d&d?
give me a brake, also you sound like a hater
>i have literally never played a game with clunkier combat
try neverwinter nights 2 kid
>and the characters blend into the backgrounds so fucking much, that you cannot tell what is happening
>RTwP sucks major ass for this kind of game
bd 2 and icewind dale are here to disagree
If you ask if its gonna suck, I dont think so. Its what-you-see-is-what-you-get and will aim for its audience who will enjoy it. I will buy it and I can tell now I will love it.
But will it be BG2-good,
or even IWD2-good? I doubt it. I'll miss the powergaming you could pull out of (A)D&D-rules, though.
GW1 was 20. Stop chasing big numbers in RPGs.
>it's better than X
>Y is shit
>this game is gonna crush Z
>no one ever talks about the strong points of the game
>it's all about being "better" than others
Elitism at its finest
>has adequate mechanics
>has good writing
This has forever and always been the standard for RPGs. You're just butthurt that it was compatible with tablets which is fucking irrelevant.
Shadowrun wasn't "Outstanding. But the premise, characters, writing, enviroments, artstyle and even gameplay were pretty much better than 80% of all video game related content nowdays.
your party was usually 5 or 6 at the most by the end of the sword coast expansion. you'd have to do some extreme min-maxing(like playing solo or with only 4 characters) to reach 7 or even 8.
IWD has little plot, but the fights are harder and more tactical. Its for people who cant hear Imoens or Aeries shitty advices any longer and prefer to kill more goblins and orcs.
Isn't Obsidians reputation: "Those guy with great ideas and talent that release buggy and unfinished games."?
I love Obsidian but I don't think they have a great reputation anywhere.
RPG codex is a cesspool that makes /b/ look like a place of philosophical debate. Even having something like an attack of opportunity in your game will get it universally panned by that terrible board.
Let it fucking go holy shit this works in pnp but it's utter shit in CRPGs where you fight 10x the amount of enemies and spend 70% of the time in combat
Depends on what you mean by that. I thought the system made enough sense to me. You have a few per-encounters and the rest of your spells are either per-rest (Vancian style) or require a certain amount of points being built up.
Yes. Sylvari in GW2 are a replacement for the human race AND player character at the same time.
I've played every iteration of the beta and it still isn't very good. If the writing is truly great then the full release might be worth slogging through once, but my hopes of a true successor to BG2 have been soundly dashed.
Essentially yes but to a lesser extent. Your spells are recharged after combat, not per day.
What I don't understand is how people could possibly think this could go horribly wrong and be shit. This is Obsidian, even when they have fuck all time to put out a game they make them at least very good. This has had a full development time, it'll be excellent.
There's no fully-grown dragons in the beta area. There's juvenile dragons called wurms that you can fight, but they don't talk.
Yes. You have to buy camping supplies to rest. Wizards, Priests, and Druids do get per-encounter spells that recharge after battle concludes to take the edge off though, so your casters don't feel useless when you're saving their spells.
im totally banking on the fact that this game will be accessable as fuck. always wanted to get into older RPGS but they are obtuse as fuck. graphics dont even bother me, understanding the game balance and playstyle does
>I hope we can recruit those spider people
imagine to share a camp in the wilderness with this guy in your party. I wont sleep for sure
wat. It's Pen-&-papery if anything,
>juvenile dragons called wurms
This triggers me.
Right now, the WoD license costs CCP next to nothing aside from printing books. Any kind of game production or even renting out the license would cost them money if only in legal fees for the contracts.
Wasn't the Romance interest supposed to be from this race as fuck you to the players from Avellone?
So can you cheese in this game like you can cheese in BG2?
I remember just summoning a bunch of creatures and getting my main tank with a dancing swords spell and I casted invisibility on him and made him roam around enemies while he's hasted.
CCP will squat on that IP forever, letting poor beta cuck kikesharter kiddys pay for them to publish terribad fanfiction and nothing more
a big greasy shit in the heart of a rich property
This game does have a nice little in-game book of terms that helps explain things better. I think you can click on highlighted words on items and it'll take you to the relevant entries.
You have an HP and an Endurance bar. The Endurance bar protects you from HP damage, but once it runs out you get knocked out and start to take HP damage. Endurance regenerates, but HP does not and if your HP is low, it limits the amount of Endurance you can regenerate. Resting fully heals your character and is the only way to do so without spending a talent to get a weak ability that restores a little HP per rest.
You're only scammed if you feel like you're scammed, right?
>I don't know how to address the kickstarter fags. Investors? Donors? Scammed people?
Patrons. Crowdfunding is patronage, not investment, not a pre-order.
no, sadly not
the possibility to cheese your way through the game had an immense replay value
Obsidian already said 'there is no bad decisions' for example in the character generator. sucks ass, but lets see what we can do with items once we know more
Maybe this game will sell incredibly well and draft in a huge normie brigade like Skyrim so Obsidian are rich and can make CCP an offer they can't refuse. That can happen right?!
Vancian is god-tier in potential. But the D&D implementation of Vancian is an utter munchkin abomination.
There was a purge. It purged some shit and everything good. Now only quest threads remain.
March is fun be gud for kickstarter folk. This AND my Wakfu BDs. What more could a man want in life?
Just need TiTS 2 and I would be in pure bliss.
>not the cancer killing RPGs
Reiterating the old stereotype that casters and minmaxers have to break everything over and over again got tiring for me. It's the reason why I liked Drakensang so much, even with its flaws: casters are good, can be decent fighters, but wounds hurt a lot, so martials can be useful too.
Yes, I am sure that those 20 minutes of optional scenes in a game that requires hours to complete are the real problem and not the lack of interesting gameplay, choices and storyline.
I like how you could take a 4 day nap before shit that was supposed to be urgent in BG 2. "Irenicus is fucking some dudes up right now? Hang on now, I gotta just heal this broken leg. Give me two months."
Avellone already talked about how he doesn't like the typical 'romance' that people asks for. If he had to write any, he prefers to write about tragic/unrequited romance
Including romances is a substitute for substance. Just take a look at /vg/, see if any of the RPG general discusses anything OTHER than waifus.
