Literally all you're doing in that game is grinding money to buy the next thing which you don't need and doesn't affect the game at all, and as soon as you run out of things to buy you're left with nothing but trying to fill your catalog with shit you're never going to use.
-bring back 20 villagers in a village -Village is all in one area, no separate areas ex. crossing the railroad tracks to go to the shopping district -more dialogue with villagers and be more interactive. -Bring back "looking for work" option for villagers -new camera, be able to look at grid like in GC and be able to change camera to look at the sky. -more natural landmarks and objects, ex. A lake with a dock, higher elevation (cliffs) -Villagers should be more interactive with their surroundings, (I always just see thing standing around, walking around aimlessly and occasionally see them talking to other villagers or watering flowers, but it just feels insignificant.) -Be mayor, and as mayor you can set housing plots for villagers to move in, where you want them to be so they don't fuck your shit. -Remove the villager suggestion for ideas on new Public Works (Because fuck them I haven't got a fucking police station yet since launch.)
Game feels lifeless without anyone. The Villagers really need to be more interactive with a lively dialogue with their own personalities. They need to be able to hate, like, or really like you and have consequences. Give them a sense of territory around their house, like chopping down Apolo's favorite cherry tree right next to his house should really piss him off. Also needs more daily fun activities with villagers, say there's a random gathering of animals looking for others to play a game of tag or hide and go seek, or other many other challenges around the village, what would give good rewards.

Since Nintendo would never add dating to this series, a roommate feature. Once you're close enough to a villager or two you could ask them to be your roommate. Extra house rooms could be added like in this image, the black squares being the house rooms we have already. It could free up a spot so another villager could move into town too.
Other than that, I think just adding more activities and general things to do would be fun. We already have regular holidays, why not add fun ones like Pancake Day? Being able to interact with the villagers and shop characters a bit more would be fun too, cooking could definitely be added, being able to interact with the furniture a bit more than we currently can would be cool. I remember someone mentioned here just being able to ask a villager if they want to walk around and hang out together, or just go to the beach and hang out would be fun. More PWPs, bigger maps, more minigames (like hide-and-seek) and island minigames. There's a load they could do with the Wii U gamepad so let's hope they make the most of it.
It would be neat if you could visit NPC-only villages, or have offline friend villages available for you to visit whenever. Also, more camera options would be neat.

Like, Fisherman, Bug Maniac, Art Collector, Writer, etc. Give them something additional besides a Personality to make them more unique. So a Cranky Fisherman and a Jock Fisherman would be similar in some ways but still different.

I tried finding a qt Japanese waifu (and almost succeeded) until Swapnote's downfall. Also found a stay-at-home JP mom who had 3 different copies of the game, one JP, one USA, one German, all to get the different items.

Better dialogue. A fully functional third person camera lower to the ground to follow you around town--with no rolling log effect. A full day/night trajectory for the sun and moon, plus many more environmental sound effects to immerse you in the town. (These should not drown out the music, of course.) Beyond that I'd be happy with pretty much the same game as New Leaf. I'm just tired of the rolling log look and I miss the great dialogue of the GCN days.
