It just keeps getting worse.
Can't Valve just suck it up, admit that there's no beating the Xbox controller design, and team up with Microsoft to release a Steam branded wireless Xbox One controller that comes with wireless dongle built into their Steam Machine boxes?
they didnt want to compete with the xbox controller you dingus, they were looking to successfully emulate the mouse and keyboard experience onto a gamepad, something the xbox controller doesnt totally do.
with this controller youll play games like dota and civ ya shit
I've used one before. The Xbone's controller has an infinitely better d-pad than the 360 controller but they fucked up the RB and LB buttons by making them tough and awkward to press. Otherwise, it's about the same as the 360 controller and definitely an improvement with the better d-pad.
Why the fuck is the final design in gold?
it's the same fucking controller with worse bumpers, better battery pack placement, and a design that feels a little less like a cheap toy
xbox one / xbox 360 controller are both in the same camp as 'best controllers evar'
360 controller's biggest flaw is the battery pack that sticks out. real shame because otherwise its design is perfect (for 3d games at least)
no reason to complain about the 360 controller's d-pad because if you actually try and play 2d games on any controller designed for 3d gaming then you're a mouth breather
the 360's d-pad is just fine for menu navigation and mapping actions to.
And with that, I've been branded a fanboy for each of the three companies, just today.
It's common fucking knowledge that the Xbox has a shit contoller. The only thing it's any good for is racing games.
>the 360's d-pad is just fine for menu navigation and mapping actions to.
No, it's not, it's shit. You can press on any part of the D-pad and move it in any direction. It's stupidly imprecise, I constantly hit down or up when I'm trying to press it left or right. Controller is fine otherwise though.
no it isn't you dipshit
the xbox controller is literally the platform's only saving grace; it's why so many people picked a 360 over a ps3, and why there's still a sizeable number of people who are picking up an xbox one over a ps4 despite the xbox one being considerably less powerful and having an inferior software lineup; it's all because of how good that fucking controller is
there's a reason why the xbox controller has been a resounding success on the pc
you never had that kind of movement to sony platforms just for their controller, because sony's controller has always had shit design
the dualshock 4 is a step in the right direction but it's still so far behind the xb1 and even xbox 360 controller in the ergonomics department that it's pathetic
Because it's fucking trash. That ass D-pad, asymmetrical sticks, stick as the primary directional input which is ASS TIER for fighters, sub-par battery life
It only does two things right over the competition: the triggers and concave pads on the sticks.
the 360's d-pad has been fixed for years. pick up one of the chrome controllers
don't be a dipshit who doesn't keep a spare set of recharged AAs lying around, or better yet try recharging your controller every once in a while
the battery life on the xbox controllers exceeds 20 hours on a full charge.
this is like saying a house phone is better than a cell phone because it doesn't have a battery that can run out
I dunno man, the DS4 is pretty good. The concave sticks are actually usable now, the dpad is still good and the buttons aren't garbage analogs. Triggers are good too
But yea, before that the DS was a fucking trainwreck, good that they realised their mistake finally
That's because it was cheaper you retard. The controller is widely agreed on as ass
Bullshit. I can't believe I'm even hearing this right now. The controller is a fucking mess.
>Putting in a left analog stick
>When you have a trackpad there anyway
Why the FUCK did they do that? A real physical dpad is needed much more on the left than an analog stick which the pad allready mimics.
Also, skittle buttons are fucking dumb. The only good part of the controller is something I've wished controllers had for decades, and that's a second set of triggers underneath where your middle fingers would sit.
>wanting a console's primary controller to be designed around a d-pad as being the primary direction input
>in the year of our lord 2015
for fuck's sake
And is this Sony faggot seriously calling the battery life sub-par? The same faggot who owns a system with a controller with a proprietary battery in it that has the same amount of capacity as a SINGLE rechargeable Triple-A battery?
Stick two 2,600 mAh capacity AA batteries in the Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller and it will have over FIVE TIMES as much battery capacity as a DualShock 4.
You're lucky if you can get six hours of battery life out of the DualShock 4's shitty little proprietary battery. An Xbox controller can go for over 20 hours on a full charge. That is plenty.
And because the Xbox controllers don't use proprietary batteries, if you're a moron who doesn't charge your controller after using it for 20+ hours you can swap in a fresh set of fully charged AAs in seconds whereas with a Sony controller you have to tether yourself to your console like it's the 1990's all over again for a few hours while it takes forever to recharge its crappy proprietary battery.
Except you don't drag an Xbox controller around with you you fag
20hours is sub optimal unless you're a fucking casual. That's like 2-3 days before you have to switch out batteries.
Dude I agree with you, the Xbox wireless pad is great, batteries>charge because you can always just have AAs lying around.
just the pad without the battery bulge is much better, that's all
If you ask most people they will prefer the 360 pad. It is extremely well liked and many call it pretty much perfect except for the Dpad. It even rated top of the /v/ poll ahead of the GC pad.
How are you only just hearing this?
I actually think the dpad has gotten even worse with the stupid rotation gimmick.
Now there's a significant amount of travel when you press it. It feels more like moving a stick than pressing a a button.
Jesus, how hard is it to get a fucking dpad right?
>All this stupidity
>All these people shouting random things, without a regard for how it actually works
We're not all autistic basement dwellers who play video games for 20 hours straight without doing something an actual human being does like I don't know, going to work, going to school, or just fucking going to sleep.
Try not being a fat sack of shit who plays video games for so long that you cannot find an hour or two break somewhere in your 20+ hour session to throw your AA batteries in your charger and get them back up to full capacity.
It takes my LaCrosse BC-1000 battery charger just over an hour to fully charge a set of AA batteries.
If you can't find an hour window at some point to recharge your shit then you need help.
Because it's bullshit. Look at this fucking thread alone.
Hell take a look at the ergonomic MESS of a controller we're talking about here.
You know what? I'm getting way to riled up about this. If you want to believe that absolute piece of garbage is a worthwhile controller, more power to you. Have fun with your missed inputs.
I bought a brand-new 360 at the tail-end of 2013, the dpad is garbage just like every 360 controller I've ever used. Good controller overall, but the dpad is absolute utter garbage.
Every dpad on Sony's controllers has been sub-par as well for different reasons. It's segmented and also imprecise, though not as bad as the 360 pad in that regard.
Dualshock controllers STILL have the fucking shit dpad in the primary position, which will always make the controllers bad. If they fixed that their controllers would be fine. Seems like Nintendo is the only one who can make a good dpad, and even then they still fuck up their controllers with the face buttons being in the secondary position.
>Nintendo's dpad and buttons with analog triggers
>MS's shell and analog sticks
Best controller ever.
>Not just making a standard analog/dpad left side combo like a normal controller, but replacing the right stick with trackpad and having the extra underside triggers
Leave it to valve to overcomplicate and fuck it up.
It could've been GOAT, and now it's just shit and weird. Someones going to release a 3rd party much better version where there's no left trackpad, and Valve will feel like retards.
I've never owned a microsoft console or controller, and every time i hold one the buttons feel like weird skittles and the d-pad feels fucked up. Triggers are nice though.
I have no idea why everyone says it's the best. Is it because everyone is just used to it from playing with it on xbox/pc so much?
>Dualshock controllers STILL have the fucking shit dpad in the primary position
I'm pretty sure they know that it's not right at this point, but can you imagine the butthurt if they had fixed the position? All of the Sony fanboys would be mad, the Xbox fans would be all uppity about it. I guess they just decided it wasn't a good PR move.
>managed to be worse than Xbox controller
>no fucking d-pad
>people will buy this
>people will buy the "console"
>people will buy the tv streaming brick
It's the closest to one size fits all in terms of shape and size. The sticks were very good with that concave center. The skittle buttons were miles better than the analog ones on the DS3, and many people prefer the solid feeling you get when you press one compared to the flat ones found on the DS or the strange wobbly mini-buttons on Nintendo stuff.
The dpad doesn't matter, it's not a necessary component for anything except maybe fighting games, at which point you might as well use a stick if you're into that genre.
>I play a lot of fighters though
Yea, that's probably why you like the D-pad in the primary position, because you actually use it. Most games don't, this isn't the SNES era basically.
