Why did it fail?
Now that Vita and PSTV have been discontinued let's ask ourselves why did they fail so miserably?
Sony wanted it to be kill
But I love my Vita regardless!
Because unlike consoles, the quality of the games matters so naturally Sony never stood a chance.

I love my vita!
Normalfags plague /v/ like cancer
What kind of people are these? I'm honestly curious. Do they have a healthy social life? Do they work out at all? Do they have jobs to support themselves? Are they pedophiles?
If you're not interested you just move on. The Vita somehow attracts more hate than disinterest in /v/. Mentioning that it has the most games being developed out of all platforms triggers the nintendo brigade.
I'm pretty sure if any of us had a social life then we wouldn't need 4chan. Yes to everything but the first and last, faggot
To be fair, He's responding to a person who's asking why there's a 'lack of love' for it.
As to why people hate on it, I guess /v/ is more nintendo kids than I gave it credit for? I dunno. I barely come here anymore so I'm not aware of the demographics.
This, not the same desires, but if there was Castlevania and Pop'n Music on it like on the PSP then I'd have bought one. Same if they hadn't cancelled that Lost Planet 2 port. Right now, the only game I'm passively interested in is Umehara Kawase.
But I own a Vita and play it for the Japanese exclusives it has. I'm just saying people don't like it here cause it has literally no good western games. Uncharted was just some launch title. Same with AC: L. The one I enjoyed a bit was Killzone, and that's not saying much.
>I'm pretty sure if any of us had a social life then we wouldn't need 4chan.
How does that even make sense? If I have a social life, I can't browse anonymous imageboards on my free time?
Don't forget that the PSP was a compelling portable media device in 2005. Fast-forward to 2012 and the Vita doesn't have that same edge now that everybody has smartphones and tablets.
You know, people make the panty quest joke, but I don't think I've ever actually seen a game where your goal is to collect panties and nothing else. Not fucking girls with panty collecting on the side, just straight panty collecting. Does that exist, and is it any good?
It's okay, but it's like 7/10: The System, it has some fine games but that's they're just fine.
I also hate the Vita's userbase on /v/ who think labelling games weaboo makes them somehow better, when I'm sat here in a room surrounded by anime figures with a giant IdolM@ster multi cloth on my ceiling and I have some jackass on /v/ telling me I don't like a Vita game because I'm not a weaboo when I criticise the library.
>Save up $200 for the New 3DS
>"Fuck, I already have a 3DS and it works fine,"
>Wanna play Persona and Gravity Rush
>Buy a Vita
I've actually lost sleep over whether or not this was a good financial decision. Especially this late in the game, I feel like they're just gonna announce vita 2 at e3 and them I'm gonna feel like shit.
This is who I am
Everyone shall know my love!
You mean the Marisa one? I don't keep anything important there, I just keep it for no reason
I kinda have the chance to get a social life, but it's too boring and tiring to do so. I used to work out in a gym, but I prefer playing basketball (and at least I'm not fat). Also, I'm still at my last year at school, and with all the homework we get it's kinda hard finding a job. I'm no pedophile, though
(but I like lolis)
I should start looking for those beads, I want to make some Neps too
I'm getting some nice milage out of my PSTV, actually.
Looking forward to Pirate Warriors 3.
1. We didn't need a touch pad gimmick
2.It needed to cater to it's strengths and bring more Japanese girl games over
3.it fucked over the VITA users by never giving a TV out cable even though it has a port for it
4.Shitty LED screen on VITA2000
5.Sony is retarded and didn't strike a deal with hulu and netflix to make streaming apps for the VITATV
6.Everybody is too busy with their 240p 3DS playing a games they have played 20 times before (Mario and Pokemon)
7.Western support is non-existent
Don't forget it has hardly any flagship titles, overpriced memory cards and Sony never marketed it. Just some Japanese games made by niche devs. Not necessarily a bad thing but a Console needs some damn popular exclusives to do well. I just found out about the Oreshika thing too.
>Western support is non-existent
thats the biggest reason.
fuck weaboos. that's the real fucking reason the vita was not bought. it has none good games besides persona animu weaboo shit
>no fucking monster hunter
this was the biggest reason people bought the psp, even in europe and america
I own one and it's sad for me to agree with you.
I still use my VITA, but I see nothing worthwhile to buy in the VITA's Future.
The best thing sony can do is drop the memory stick prices.
>pirate on vita
>all the good and graceful jap games stop getting localized
although the only good thing that would come out is a cheat engine, like cwcheats for psp. a casual like me would love it
>no western games beside starters
>no monster hunter
the biggest flaws
i'm weaboo though so no regrets after buying vita but even i have to admit that vita has weak library of games especially in comparison to psp
> 11m sold
It has sold more than WiiU has during the same timespan.
You can, however, emulated PSP and everything older on it.
It's loaded with games now and in the future.
If you dont like weebs, you shouldnt have bought it.
> no monster hunter
Someone missed the train it seems.
MH Frontier is coming this year.
Not to west, because west doesnt really buy MH games anyway.
> the biggest flaws
Nope. Not even close.
The biggest flaw is memory card pricing. This is what has kept off majority from getting one.
For a device that is meant to be digital (mostly) with its..
> 900 PSV games
> 500+ PSP games via PSN
> 400+ PS1 games via PSN
Asking 100$+ for a memory card is fully retarded.
I did the same and I'm really glad I did. I do like the New 3DS but I'm not missing out on anything relevant since the regular 3DS is all I need.
>I feel like they're just gonna announce vita 2 at e3
The Vita is just 3 years old, m8. It'll be a while before they announce its successor.
Playing Japanese games =/= weaboo.
This is like saying drinking any other alchohol other than beer means you're a fag.
You can play and enjoy whatever you feel like. Stop being so obsessed with labels.
SCEA never gave a shit about it, Sony tried to push it almost entirely on AAA-lite titles instead of the kinds of games that actually sell handhelds. Then add expensive memory cards and the lack of any IPs that are big sellers in either the east or the west. The most popular game the system has is an updated port of a niche PS2 game.
>Western support is non-existent
When have western devs ever given significant support to a handheld? There are some good western handheld games, but the vast majority of non-shovelware titles have always been japanese.
Bought a 64gb card + persona 4, fucking 130+ euro for it.
I also feel sony just doesn't give a shit about us, the new digimon RPG is supposed to be big but yet there's probably no chance of being localized
the new Yu Gi Oh also seems good sincei t features the originalseries and GX(I never looked past those)
>I feel like they're just gonna announce vita 2
same here, just bought it and I'm afraid it'll get a new better model or some shit
I just recently finished it. God tier game.
And by the way. There is anime of it. So in 4-5 years when you feel like remembering this golden (kek) piece of a game - you can watch the anime of it.
There is anime for original P4 (26 episodes) and for P4G (12 episodes)
P4G anime has all the fillers cut out. But has Marie.
Yeah, Sony does kinda piss me off with how thy treat the Vita. Oreshika should've been given a physical release considering its a first party game with high production values.
>same here, just bought it and I'm afraid it'll get a new better model or some shit
>Implying Sony is Nintendo
They never re-release their consoles/handhelds with more powerful upgrades. Its always re-designs with newer/cheaper parts (See: PS3 Fat, Slim, Super Slim)
These are actual facts, dear shitposter.
Reporting on the number of PSV games that have a release year to all other console games for JPN that have a release year.
You know. Actual numbers, not retarded opinions?
> Compares to Wii U considering price and the fact it's a home console
Wii was a home console. Didnt sell so bad.
PS3 was a home console. Didnt sell so bad.
WiiU is a home console and sells worse than Vita. Being or not being a home console doesn't matter, if it's the worst selling console in recent times.
> Implying it can't be hacked
Yep. It can't. Pirated Vita games will not be possible.
If you would actually follow GBAtemp, PS3Hax or any other hacking scene community, you'd know about it too.
> It has games! I promise!
And it does.
More than you could imagine. Over 900 to be exact. Just more than half have never been translated.
its weird tho
with some things they nail it so good, it's like back in early 2000's ... PS4 and Xperia phones / tablets
and then they things like this (see image)
a fucking $400 dollar alarm clock
and they just recenetly announced a $1400 USD walkman
and a "premium sound" memory card for triple the normal price
they don't announce new handheld in near future because vita has been on market for like only 3 years? it is still too soon
they could just lower the price of memory cards and make more aaa titles like gta san andreas stories rather than making whole new system - vita still has really good hardware as for mobile device so there isn't really any need to make next gen of it
but i think that there won't be next handheld console from sony after how hard ps vita floped
if sony would want to still fight in handheld market then they would just focused on vita rather than making it gimmicky controller and streaming device for ps4
sony just gave up on handhelds and we all have to admit it
I use my Vita almost all the time. Tales of Hearts R and EDF are the last games I enjoyed on it, and I`m loving Oreshika right now.
I have a job as a Engineering Consultant, as well as a degree in Biology and Chemistry. I also have plenty of friends, go out regularly, and have poor spending habits, most of which goes to consoles I don`t use that much anymore.
I`m curious why you are being so assuming.
You forgot to count you're a shill.
>You know. Actual numbers, not retarded opinions?
Are you really trying to put those two together?
Also handheld consoles are more easily made and so cheaper.
You forgot to count that the 3DS has floored vita in sales.
But they don't matter right?
Anything can be hacked give it time.
Not really, a lot of consoles have stupid removed features, Nintendo is the biggest offender of all right now. Cutting down the battery on the Wii U pad, accessories like the Gamecube thing, Amiibo DLC, New Nintendo 3DS lack of charger and switch to MicroSD, it certainly adds up.
At least with a Vita memory card, you have an associated account to confirm you have access to these games. Generally speaking, you can get returns on the card provided you buy sale items which are priced really well.
>Also handheld consoles are more easily made and so cheaper.
The Wii U was being discontinued so early on, it was going for lower prices than a new Vita bundle. That`s no excuse.
Not the same guy, I bought my Wii U brand new for $140 because the price bombed so fast within the 2nd year.
> You forgot to count you're a shill.
Nah. I just actually follow more communities than retarded shitposters on /v/
> Also handheld consoles are more easily made and so cheaper.
> You forgot to count that the 3DS has floored vita in sales.
What makes you think I "forgot" this? Maybe I should have also mentioned that PSP sales > 3DS sales?
> But they don't matter right?
Because WiiU is selling worse than Vita, and neither of them is getting discontinued any time soon. Despite having below average sales.
> Anything can be hacked give it time.
But the groups that were working on Vita lost interest in it. Not worth the time and effort.
Just like with PS3.
It was possible to hack up to a certain FW only. And anything above that remains unhackable til today. Even with modchips.
It's more likely we will hear some progress with PS4/X1 hacking actually. They are the main focus.
>Vita userbase on /v/
Oh lord. The same fanbase that flips shit when you call an average game average. The same fanbase that shits on you if you don't like the flavor of the month.
Except the Wii U is not nearly that, and NDP has been neglecting to even report Wii U numbers because they are so low. North American "sales" on all charts are stacked with no information backing them.
Post the Nichijou wallpaper please.
This can apply to any game, on any platform, with any fanbase. This is just you being contrarian because you have a hate boner for a platform, which is weird and oddly sociopathic.
> PSP sales > 3DS sales?
Orrr PSP to Ds sales right?
DS won that too.
Point is you just sound like you're really desperate to prove the Vita is worth something.
But I'm saying that's not something you need to prove, or fabricate in this case.
>This can apply to any game, on any platform, with any fanbase
When it's a common occurrence amongst the fanbase, it's a problem. What you're doing is deflecting the problem.
>hate boner for a platform
Don't know where I said that.
Handheld games is a much more core market than console games. What I mean by that is handheld games aren't "cool" like console games are. No one's going to buy a 3DS or a Vita to fit in. It HAS to have good games. Advertising isn't enough.
Anyway when the 3DS got 3D land and Mario Kart 7 it was over. Animal crossing was the final nail in the coffin.
They don't have to submit data automatically but you yourself can get in touch with any publicly traded company and they would be required to release information to you.
Vita library pretty overrated by the people who have it, not saying the 3DS library isn't either though.
Vita just a 7/10 system at best. If you don't like It new IPs, Monster hunter clones or indies you are basically fucked.
The japanese games aren't even that good.
I like my 3DS slightly better for few reasons, mainly one of them is that it can play DS games.
Both handhelds honestly blow.
Those games did nothing, Pokemon is what made the 3DS sell, but it didn't do enough to make one platform invalidated; the issue with the Vita is that it needs to hit well with Western audiences and only core gamer type of games are being made for it. It doesn't have a "POkemon" to push it regardless of the game's shitty quality.
>every fanbase confirmed for the worst
If you say so. I wasn't the one throwing comparisons about. I was only talking about the Vita.
>someone will sperg out about it
I understand that. I don't understand why you feel the need to tell me that.
Or maybe the platform is good just not good to you? The concept of overhype is a personal problem, one that is based on your sole interpretation. For me, the Vita will always be on top because of many more games I really enjoy on it, and this is coming from someone who owns the entire 3DS library; the 3DS is something you don't really need to own this generation and you wouldn't miss out on a single excellent or worthwhile game.
>Buying digital on a system with overpriced proprietary memory
Protip: Walmart is part of the NDP group, who now keep sales data and only release it if paid. They use it for marketting in the majority to project sales and orders on products.
I can't agree there, the Vita at least houses new IPs and interesting, explorative games. The 3DS is a slew of disappointing sequels that end up the worst of their respective series.
I'm not really mad, just games made for a lower tier audience is why 3DS games scrape by on mobile quality titles.
Man I wanted the Vita to be a success so bad. Had such potential but devs couldn't make fun games on it. Proof is that graphics don't make the game, but they sure as fuck help out.
If nintendo had the same hardware as the vita, we would have full fucking wii U games on the 3DS.
I know this is a vita thread but
Sony should give up on handhelds, since their consoles sell so well anyway. Nintendo should give up on consoles and just make an HDDS, Give that shit at least 720p image, and the processing power of 2 Galaxy s6's (one on the top screen, and one on the bottom) :^)
I disagree completely, I disliked majority of their new IP's. Only one that was okay to me was Freedom Wars. 3DS at least had couple games I liked and can play DS games, but my vita just never played at all.
Western support existed briefly before it bombed. Apparently they needed market analysts to tell them that making shitty ports of games you could already play on a home console was not a way to succeed.
I'm pretty sure they won't be releasing another handheld. This is why the Sony Xperia Z3 can also remote play the PS4.
They will phase out the handhelds once the Vita's cycle ends, and then just focus on their phone division (which is a mixed bag).
>posting this while vita and ps4 outsell 3ds and wiiu in japan
Someone is upset. But here are some answers to your questions.
Sony always wins because of developer support and their focus on platforms. Sony helps developers accomplish their goals. They view the platform as a tool to assist developers. Nintendo, MS and Valve all treat developers as tools to further their own agenda. Every time developers support them, it's because they were paid to do so. Whether that means moneyhatting or blue ocean doesn't change this fact. Money is the only reason anyone ignores Sony. Sony is large enough that small developers greatly benefit from working with them. It gives independent developers access to larger networks for publishing and localization that they previously would not have been able to consider. In addition to their pro developer stance, Sony doesn't make many games. They focus more on improving the platform than developing their own games, which is part of why they continue to have more games and more multiplatform titles. Sony is more interested in winning consumers with overall quality than exclusivity or unique features. They're basically the Samsung of gaming. Conveniently, most of Sony's own games are pretty shitty so nobody cares that they don't make that many games. Except for shitposters; they want you to think that Sony fans care about Sony itself.
>What kind of people are these?
Highly unlikely. Some japanese developers still want to try localization. Remember, even if localizations bomb, developers receive licensing fees up front. They really couldn't care if their localization partner profits or not. Handheld is still competing with mobile in japan, so sony would be retarded not to make a new handheld since that would force every localization effort into porting.
Declining popularity doesn't mean dropping out of the market. It merely means the market has changed. Besides, this is a good thing for us. Fewer casuals means more games and hardware pandering to our demands.
Totori is the worst
Vita contains the definitive edition of many games
Vita is deffo the best handheld (I don't even like JRPG's and all that shit). I barely use my 3DS I like the Vita a lot more. Especially as it has loads of Monster Hunter rip offs
Every time I see those beads man... I wish I had the time to do that
No games. Or rather, no games of value.
I have a Vita, and when you buy a game that's a huge time sink like Disgaea 3 & 4 or Atelier, you look at other games at the same price that clock in at maybe eight hours of gameplay and wonder why you'd spend that kind of money on it.
I don't know man. Remember that Sony has their own Mobile store (which you can also access on the Vita).
I can't see them putting out another handheld like the PSP or Vita, even if I wish they would (Vita is the ONLY handheld I have ever liked, and has allowed me to keep a dumbphone and its incredibly cheap rates, while having a device like a smart phone around.
Vita friends does Ayesha run any better on vita? Meruru runs like complete ass.
>Nintendo should give up on consoles and just make an HDDS
That's not happening at any time
Prepare for console/handheld hybrid of some sort like the Vita playing off PS4 games or something to that nature
Is Nintendo even interested in VR gaming though? I could see them do holograms or some form of augmented reality stuff instead
Nice disinfo. 40 of my 54 vita games are exclusive. Get fucked.
Because developers don't want to get involved in the west. The west doesn't care for japan anymore. The future is southeast asia. It's also a lot easier to translate into korean (sort of chinese) than it is into english. Korea also has a huge light novel market, which means interest in tie in anime games. LNs are translated almost instantly. If you didn't know what hangul was, it would be very hard to tell the difference between a japanese and korean selection. Korea also has a generally shit game marketplace, so developers are more interested in growth opportunities there than decline opportunities in the west.
>Atelier game on the vita
>not running like shit
Is anyone else scared to buy digital Vita games because they are going to not work anymore in the close future (5 - 10 years)?
I don't have this issue with steam, but sony just makes me so uneasy. It's a shame because physical is so expensive, especially in europe.
