The lord and saviour of gaming has spoken to the press:
>tfw being interviewed by an orangutan trapped in time
I hate how people misuse this meme.
Miyazaki was right when he said Anime was a mistake, because it genuinely is. Japans culture and infrastructure is worse off than ever.
I'm confused. I thought it's pronounced the french way? Jenre sounds barbaric.
No, not really.
When was the last time Valve made a video game?
When was the last time a Steam sale was good and not just jewish card shit?
Who cares about VR?
Gabe is shit. It's no surprise /v/ used to care about him years ago and now no one gives a shit
>notice mic guy isn't moving at all
>skip ahead in video
>he's still completely frozen in the exact same position
>gaben vowed to lose a kilo for each month it took for hl3 to release
Why is everybody talking about how he looks and not about what exactly did he talk about?
Because the Link device, the Vulcan thing, and the fact that they are actually on board with Blizzard, Epic and Unity - the whole plan they are hinting here: it's actually kinda big. Vulcan in particular, if it cathes on, seems like the one of the biggest fucking things in years.
This is quite an amazing interview, even if it all works in hypotheticals for now.
This. I don't remember the last time I had to hunch myself over my monitor to do anything.
I havea confortable chair and a USB controller, there I have the same experience.
He should have stayed frozen in time,if he is going to talk shit like that.
reminder that "the lord and saviour of gaming" is infact a brony.
>yfw the Miyazaki quote will be the only factually correct quote to ever exist for this meme
It's another generic jump in technology. Sure it's amazing but it's not that much of a surprise and was something everyone has been expecting anyway.
Now a guy frozen in time, THAT'S something to talk about. How many of those have you seen?
Gabe is an Old-School nerd. He doesn't fucking care about the new jokes and just plays along for PR reasons. He is just itching to go back home and work on his knife collection.
He's beginning to look like my grandpa. Oh god.
I'm pretty sure that's only men though. But I would probably do the same though. Just wear my 10 year old jeans and t-shirts while my bank account had millions. For parties I'd probably wear some fanciest and most expensive custom made suit I could find to impress the bitches and whores.
You mean the woman on the left? Yeah, I can see it.
>mfw I'm beginning to look like most of /v/'s dad
Wow, this guy looks bored as shit
Gabe is trying to talk to you faggot. Try smiling
THAT GUY IS NOT MOVING EVEN SLIGHTLY
HIS CHEST DOESNT EVEN MOVE HE'S NOT BREATHING
..That's Gabe? What happened?
He looks so much older all of a sudden
version 2, slightly better
>ode to joy plays
>Gabe is going to have a heart attack and leave this earth before Half-Life 3 is finished
lurking for potential
>mfw some of my family's children are now beginning to play video games
>mfw I meet legal adults who have been alive for less time than I have been playing video games
Daily reminder that if you're 24 years old, or older, you have played video games for longer than some of /v/ has been alive.
It's 2015, anon. Gabe was founded in 1996. He's been heading up the company for 19 years.
Before that, he worked at M$. Take that long amount of time, and throw in the moral crusaders breathing down his neck and stressing him out, and some kids, and you'll have a guy who looks old.
You push it and it pushes back in response so you know IT knows you are pushing it. It's big. As a touchpad would just have you slide your finger across and you only have "did it work? Did it move? IS THIS THING ON?!" to know what's going on. But with Haptik you're getting a tactile response in the moment.
I have no idea if it's shit or not.
>only thing keeping PCs relevant
Homie, Consoles are becoming less relevant. They're an outdated concept, and the PC is becoming stronger because many people in the core gaming audience are making the switch. With sites like Logical Increments to help people pick sensible parts, it's been easier than ever to do this. There are more online distributors like GMG and GOG. It's an expanding market, and it would expand without Valve's help.
However, they decided to make their next engine open source, and a whole bunch of other shit was announced this GDC. So they've still managed to massively help PC gaming.
Everything is going to be fine, and everything would still be fine without Valve.
but no one whos used the steam controller has made any mention of it other than in passing.
i think its like the buttons on the HTC one... ie. it vibrates slightly when you brush over the right spot on the trackpad. Probably worthless
ANSWER THE QUESTION, ANON.
TELL ME WHERE THEY FOUND HIM
Sitting on a rock in the middle of the desert. Like he'd been waiting for them.
>all those puns at the end
Sounds like Vulcan is his way of sticking it in to MS and ripping it off.
I just don't understand the SteamLink thing. It's just a stream device, right? You use it to stream from your PC to your TV, correct? Is that all it is? Because it seems like it's being a big deal made out of.
my dad looks like gabe, sounds like gabe a little, is the same age
but he isn't gabe newell
Gabe is laughing, he looks so happy. He is taking the lead into the golden pc gaming era.
He knows he is making history right when his lifespan is coming to an end. This is his moment of happiness. He is leaving us with one of the greatest advancements in entertainment. We all should be happy that he focused on PC gaming instead of consoles. This is the greatest moment of gaming.
He probably has a team of doctors monitoring his health at all times so he can continue to be a glutton within acceptable parameters.
>his will states to bury steam with him including everyones accounts
>at his funeral they end up piling all the steam servers into a giant hole with him
>Gaben will eventually die in our lifetime
>Someone else will be put in control of Valve and Steam
The interviewer was frozen in awe of our Lord Gaben.
He was not mentally prepared enough to meet such a divine figure.
The divine sphere.
>yfw the only hole big enough to fit gaben had his steam servers is the mariana trench
The original if someone wants to add details.
I actually like that Gabe was modest enough to introduce himself to the press instead of just expecting everyone to know who he is.
Did a revised one since apparently a non-third-worlder did a better template here >>285992021
Translator-san gets another moment in the sun.
I don't get why some people still have a problem with Steam Machines. I think they're fine for what they are, majority will still build a PC, but some there still is a market for pre builts even though they can be a tad overpriced.
Valve created SteamOS and Steam Machines in order to not be so dependent on Windows and DirectX. They see it as backup plan just in case Microsoft does something crazy with Windows or DirectX. So far things are fine, but you never know what could happen down the line. So, they decided to start now to at least get the ball rolling and get some games ported to Linus/SteamOS.
>I don't get why some people still have a problem with Steam Machines.
Valve is dedicating staff to dead-in-the-water projects instead of HL3.
Come on anon. You know this is the source of angst for like a decade now.
>Speedy Time Zone in Digimon World 1.mp4
>hey bill, I know you usually work on designing cases and layouts for the new steam machines, but I need you to hop on your computer and figure out how to do some programming because we really need some more HL3 code, yeah... thanks.
I wouldn't worry about it. These people simply don't understand. If you asked them directly if they want to pay more for less they would answer no but can't seem to understand that simple idea through a more complex scenario. Everyone would rather not have to pay for or deal with horrible microsoft licensing and bloat.
They will come to see the light of day at some point.
>hey bill, you know we hired you at $120k/year to develop hardware shit that no one will ever buy, but we're going to fire you are hire two junior programmers at $60k/year and release HL3
Do you have any inkling of how the business world works?
Valve's staff has been padded out with useless people.
>Mister CIA, would you say that he is 'big guy' for you?
that has to do with steam being successful, and virtually nothing to do with steamos (which is also a result of steam being successful)
and what ultimately made steam successful was the millions of fanboys who actually paid full price for HL2 with DRM
so if you think about it, HL2 is the reason HL3 doesn't exist
>all these new things happening with PC gaming
Is it happening? Is the new golden age of vidya on the horizon? I mean obviously we're still in the gutter but is it possible we may yet get pulled out?
>Mister Hanamura, are the rumors true? Is Chie best girl?
>mustard tastes great
You realize you are eating poison right? That is the same shit they used to kill millions in WWI.
>He thinks it's not true
your funeral, m8
This was the only idea I could thing off.
I'm not even sure if it works
i'm not completely sure how a bidet is used, but i think it has something to do with squatting over a dog's bowl of water and splashing your ass with water, resulting in a pool a shitwater sitting in your bathroom.
that sounds more disgusting to me europoor
wait, you don't actually just use the bidet, right?
He's ghosting, essentially. If you weren't into games and tech, you wouldn't know he was a billionaire if you ran into him in a grocery store. It's a good tactic to ward off possible assault/mugging and more importantly to deflect gold digging whores.
>You realize you are eating poison right? That is the same shit they used to kill millions in WWI.
There are people this dumb on /v/ right now
It was called mustard gas because it smelled like mustard.
OpenGL has a shitty shader system that is error-prone, since each graphics card manufacturer needs to write a complete compiler for glsl code. This means that depending on which graphics card you have, the end result of a compiled shader might be rather different, possibly running much worse on various systems. Direct3D uses a pre-compiler for shaders in order to ensure some homogenisation. Vulkan will implement a comparable system. Other than that it will also unify OpenGL and OpenGL ES into a single interface.
None of that matters though, Valve has all but transcended regular game releases at this point. I doubt they'll ever fully stop making games, but they're 100% right to focus on their infrastructure for the time being.
The results have been one of the best uses of DRM in a way that doesn't feel violating all while creating an entire community and economy around it.
Even if they haven't made a game lately, they've still facilitated the growth and accessibility of PC gaming overall, which has a larger impact on the gaming climate than any one game could ever do.
Of course Wikipedia would say that. The Mustard conglomerate controls nearly all public information, and specifically monitors anything with mustard. If you are too stupid to see this, you are probably better off eating mustard anyway.
I listened to that entire lecture and I'm not even all that interested in business.
I think he's the one guy I could sit through an entire three hour lecture of and still be listening until the last minute.
Ahh, this shit is why I still bother with this cancerous board, every once in a while someone throws a bone into the chaotic unpredictable machine and brilliance comes out. I've been laughing for a good 40 minutes from all the edits and jokes and greentext now after a really shitty week.
He also considers his company greater than the interests of foreign nations, so he's a psycho.
>what's that Europe? Your law requires me to allow you to resell games? TOUGH SHIT YOUR LAWS DON'T APPLY TO LORD FATFUCK
>they'll ban games that are too offensive
Who cares? I'm here reading this and having fun right now. Next week I'll likely be out of a job and buried neck-deep in interviews and stressful phone calls and tending to my sick grandma, right now I'm enjoying myself.
I've thought of this quite a bit actually.
Valve lacks a hierarchical control structure beyond all the interwoven social aspects. I'm hoping it would fair better than other companies, but something tells me it would go to hell pretty fast. Like everything and anything else.
Feels kind of. I don't know. I'll just remember the green, and the good days I guess. Acknowledge the withering husk and move on.
This motherfucker with the gaze of death, I swear.
QUIT MAKING GABE NERVOUS
let's make this happen
I don't think it's a deliberate tactic or revolves around a concept as stupid as "ghosting". Some people just have a personality and don't want to make a gaudy showcase of themselves. Being whatever doesn't mean you have to look nor act the part.
"Ghosting". They're rich, they're clever so they're "ghosting" guys. Hiding their power level. What myopic trash. Never thought I'd see myself defending rich people from stupidity.
I wouldn't use the term ghosting, but they actually do that. Really rich people(Not high middle class that thinks they are rich) have to deal with the high risk of being kidnapped.
Dressing like a normal person when in public, makes then invisible to that.
You're forgetting that rich people like human interaction too. They're not going to walk around Central park carrying their rolex and in their $20k dollar suits
They're based in Seattle and don't have any retailers outside of an online shop. While i don't necessarily like no refunds, they don't really need to obey EU law from my knowledge.
ZOMG I'm going to get on le front page of le reddit XD lol
You misunderstand. I'm not disputing that some or even most consciously realize the implication going around with obvious signs of riches. I'm not saying a few don't deliberately make it. I'm saying that there isn't any inherent coupling between having money and acting or dressing a certain way.
From the very first post that drew attention to this, I just didn't get it. I never get it, because it's a ridiculous suggestion. All of us poor urchins don't dream of the day when we can walk around in suits driving a fancy car with some Rolex stupid bullshit strapped to your limb when you're so goddamn rich the time doesn't even matter. Why the guy suddenly be expected to change his attire and his very being simply to reflect that he has money?
It's a naive and shallow idea. Yes, I have no doubt some rich people deliberately "ghost", therefore engaging in the act of ghosting and making ghosting a relevant thing in their life. I'd argue most other human being just dress according to whatever.
I haven't eaten for 3 days. I haven't slept for 2 of that. I don't understand the topic or even why these suggestions are seen as valid or meaningful.
I want one day. One fucking day, where I just stroll around the internet. Stroll around outside. And hear nothing. And I mean absolutely nothing, that doesn't seem shallow, faulty, broken, disjointed, or stupid. Hear NOTHING that is left wanting. ZIP.
What are you people even trying to communicate? Gettin' real pissed anon. Getting pretty irrational anon.
