It's a pretty good romp with a lot of customization and fun battles. It's bogged down by a generic story that you're forced through to get to the actual gameplay, and an absolute shit crafting system that for many, including myself, killed any replay value.
For the $30 I got a solid fifty hours out of it before moving on. I'd recommend it, especially with the price tag, but it desperately needs a sequel, or at least an "Ultimate" version.
>>285990142 It's severely lacking in content. The first parts of the game seem promising but the further you get the less there is to do. There's only a few Abductor types and the only variation within the types is marginally different weapon setups. Aside from Abductors the only other enemies are humans who all act exactly the same and again, just have different weapons. Abductors are also primarily made difficult through having very high amounts of health, rather than combat ability or danger. As you get further through the game, this is compounded by every map becoming about fighting more and more waves of abductors until it's over. This is all the post-game consists of.
Weapons aren't particularly varied either, there are different weapons within the overall categories, but each category's weapons are all the same. The weapons are also primarily obtained through an amazingly shitty RNG creation system.
It looks fantastic, maybe even the best looking game on the Vita, and there's a few great ideas in there (the thorn in particular) but it's just sorely lacking in the content it needs to carry you through how long the game is. It also has an unfinished ending. Assuming they turn it into a franchise and make five more of the games it'll probably be decent down the line but this one is just repetitive and tedious.
I think it's pretty damn fun but for what it's worth i'm still working through the story mode and I get the feeling when I hit the endgame I'll lose interest fast since I mean I've still got 930,000 years to go and at only like 2000 years at a time that'll take a while.
Granted, I'm not a fan of monster hunter and it's type of games. And at least having a definite goal (get to 0 years) is nice.
That sounds fucking terrible. Again though I don't really like monster hunter type games that much, or hell even most RPGs. I fucking despise grinding so I'm starting to really wonder why I even bought this game. Still I'm sure it'll be worth the $30 I spent at least.
Also, I got a Vita TV (mainly for P4G, this was just a side thing that's been eating my time) and damn this game is gorgeous on it.
>>285992669 Yes. As long as you upgrade the AI and your weapons you should be fine. You can also reduce your sentence by going full jew mode and create a shit ton of stuff to donate it for the greater good.
>>285992669 Not really. The ally NPCs are absolutely retarded and if you're playing solo they're your only option. Post-game enemies slaughter them, mostly because they're stupid.
Hell, the final boss is near unwinnable in single-player because of how retarded the AI is; they all group up together and can only revive you by touching you (actual players can revive at long-range with the thorn), and the final boss uses powerful AoE attacks along with constant hounding to easily wipe them. Post-game stages have two stronger versions of the final boss (palette swapped, of course) at once. And those only show up after you've fought through three waves of time-consuming standard Abductors.
having a good community is pretty important to a co-op focused game, man. I'll tell you right now that if I didn't have a dedicated group of friends back in the day I would have never played L4D2 because that community is downright cancerous.
>>285995986 Christ, don't remind me. >Do one mission >Have to listen to Matthias talking about shaz this and shaz that for 30 minutes >Finally get another mission >Back to Matthias
Then you get Beatrice and the story forces you to be friends with the two most obnoxious and unlikeable characters in the game, and you have to keep listening to all their inane bullshit in between every mission.
OP just gonna remind you that youre on Nintendogaf. Any game not on a Nintendo console is gonna get shitted on. Had Nintendo paid for its exclusivity, it would be GOTY here.
With that said, its an amazing game. Its one of the hardest handheld games at the moment, it has a lot of varied gunplay, and the graphics are amazing. Its only conceivable downside is its lack of postgame content.
If youre at code 5 then you havent even played against half the abductor types. Secondly your squadmates AI is different and they are influenced how you level then and how you assist them. They all have a functioning karma meter. Also any hunting game boss is a HP sponge. The fun is being able to take everything you know online with others that are also good at the game and reduce those matches with alpha units to a minute or less.
Weapon variation isnt the best but saying the categories are all the same is nonsense. Each melee weapon has a different moveset including charges and combos. You are not gonna use the same mods for every weapon because every weapontype has different strengths.
>>285996435 >If youre at code 5 then you havent even played against half the abductor types. Nigger, you're posting a cap from a Vita game, you should have realised how the filenames work. Look at the date.
>Weapon variation isnt the best but saying the categories are all the same is nonsense. Each melee weapon has a different moveset including charges and combos. Each melee weapon CATEGORY is the same. You're saying exactly what I just said but not even understanding that I just said it.
>Have you played other hunter style games before? Before FW? I only played a small amount of MH Tri and Soul Sacrifice vanilla and didn't care for either of them. I've since picked up MH4U and am enjoying it significantly more. The difference in quality between it and FW is like night and day.
Most the people online actually dont use cookie cutter gear, however I see sometimes people still need guidance. Good thing the game has text and voicechat. Ive found that giving my team advice in pre-match is actually really effective.
I have a friend who loves it, but he's a huge fucking weeb and plays tons of crappy anime garbage. He just finished Criminal Girls like last fucking week. We have a podcast with two other friends of mine and the entire time i just wanted to strangle him, i fucking hate him so much.
I finished it a few weeks ago. It starts out okay, but it soon becomes incredibly repetitive, and the main enemies are basically gigantic damage sponges. The weapon crafting system got on my tits too, whoever decided to make it run in real time was a fucking moron, it feels like an app on my iphone or something.
Oh, and don't get invested in the story, because it doesn't go anywhere. The story literally goes unfinished.
If you want a decent MonHun clone on vita, either wait for the new Toukiden coming out or get SoulSac Delta. Both might not look as good as this or have as good a setting or premise, but both are exponentially better games overall.
>>285999980 >I still dont get how theyre the same if all the weapons of a category have a range of different movesets and attack options. They don't. Are you an idiot? The category isn't "guns" and "not guns", it's the weapon types. All chainsaws are the same, all knives are the same, all lances are the same. They don't control differently in the category, they merely have different stats. That's why they're part of a category.
>>285999980 >Also Its the first time Ive heard that tanky bosses in a hunting game are a con. Retributions and 300 missions are meant to be played coop. Bosses having high health being an issue depends largely on other factors involved, like whether there is any challenge they pose outside of their high health. When the only difficulty a boss presents is whether you'll run out of patience before you kill it, that's a bad thing. When the only risk a mission presents is whether you can kill all the waves of Abductors before the time runs out, that's a bad thing. This isn't a matter of crafting better weapons either, because better weapons are locked behind the materials you need to craft them, making Abductors consistently remain at that point of tedious health amounts compared to your damage output.
Compared to MH4U, monsters don't have anywhere near as much health compared to your available damage output. I've yet to ever time out a mission in MH4U, whereas in Freedom Wars that was my main reason for failure. (The other of course being stupid AI.)
>>286000736 >They don't. Are you an idiot? The category isn't "guns" and "not guns", it's the weapon types. All chainsaws are the same, all knives are the same, all lances are the same. They don't control differently in the category, they merely have different stats. That's why they're part of a category. That's not the case though. I only played with the Aftershadow and Caliburn and they both have different charging attacks. Also one of them has incredibly low damage but high critchance while the other one has high damage and less crit so you effectively deal more damage by spaming fast attacks with one of them and charging with the other one.
The problem with every other hunting game I have played, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice Delta etc is that they're usually floaty as fuck and you can revive your teammates and they can revive you.
It seems like they keep thinking, "Oh man, let's make Monster Hunter but not have it be a clunky piece of shit!" but then it turned out that the fact that Monster Hunter was so clunky was the reason it was so great. It gives weight to your actions instead of just shooting at an HP bar until it reaches 0. Even the breakable parts in Freedom Wars are button mash fests of lame.
>>286001620 Level 5. Or 6? Or 7? Fuck, I don't know, every single floor looks exactly the same after you leave the slum floors. Same goes for the cells, not even code 8 get anything special. Those are two different NPCs, despite them having the same model. The upper floors do that a lot too.
>>286001617 I know that. That's another thing though, the general atmosphere (fucked up world, prison states etc) was really fucking cool and the online function seemed really awesome but it was ruined by the shitty 'you are the chosen one!' story and not enough Percy.
Im pretty sure the light/heavy melees and polearms have different attack animations and hitboxes.
Also weaponry and the bosses that drop them are pretty level to each other. You might need Alpha parts to upgrade past Lv 8 but you should be doing enough damage to beat Alphas with Lv 7 gear.
If you have high level gear then you might also need some decent modules. Unless youre trying to solo 303 or something I dont really get why it should take so long to beat a retribution. Once I got my stuff to Lv 10, I just soloed 105 for EP.
Not to be patronizing but half the people ive come across dont know that they can level their squadmates. You have been doing that, right?
I really enjoyed it and actually bothered to platinum it. Tons of weapons and customization makes it less of a hassle than upgrading in say MonHun. The movement system is much better as well and feels fast and active instead of slow and worrying about stamina. The NPCs work well for the story battles and end game the online match making is pretty good.
It is in general a time sink like all hunters, but its the most I've ever enjoyed one without getting bored.
>>286002226 >Im pretty sure the light/heavy melees and polearms have different attack animations and hitboxes. Those are the different categories.
This is the shit I was using when I last played and gave up on how tedious post-game was. As you can see, the knife's modules are pretty decent.
>Not to be patronizing but half the people ive come across dont know that they can level their squadmates. You have been doing that, right? Half the people you've come across are retarded. Of course I've been doing that.
>>286003189 I tend to like the autocannons because of their large ammo stockpile. Too many fucking retards taking up all the ammo when they barely need it. Then ammo won't spawn for like the next half hour.
>>286003327 While I don't remember what was needed to upgrade those weapons to 6, I certainly do remember that I had to repeatedly grind the same code 2 or 3 mission to get a dozen or so parts that would only drop once per mission to get them to where they're at, because there was no better way to get them. As well as that first infiltration mission.
>>286003932 >>not knowing where to farm it where you can get multiple >because there was no better way to get them. That mission I had to repeat was the only way to get the shit. I would know; I looked it up to see if there was any better way. All I got was people lamenting that there wasn't.
This was the knife I used. Could never find a perfect rarity 8 knife.. so I just went with a perfect rarity 6. I remember getting it to lvl 9 before I platinumed the game and quit. Tho I did get my autocannon to lvl 10 or whatever was the max.
don't have a picture of what mods it had, i forgot.
It's a fun game, but sometimes I feel like I'm not really progressing as I should. Even if I 6-star an operation it feels like it went really badly and I was under-equipped for it also fuck the spider abductors, what a pain in the ass
Spiderbros actually get easier to take down. I use a lv 2 bind and then rek its pod with my lv 10 wolf kraille. Once the pod pops, hes immobilized and I attack him with lv 2 charges from my honebami. Rinse and repeat. Polearms are best for spiders since they will hit multiple parts and will proc staggers frequently
Have you even gotten to dragons or peltatums? I never had issues with the AI until the the peltatums. It's impossible to do with them helping. Just set the 3 allies to res you and do all the damage yourself and the battle will be much easier, its pretty fucked up.
If youre playing singleplayer, ive found the best characters to use are Matthias, Elfreide, and Shizuka. Matt frequently heals teammates while doing nice damage, Elfreide uses her binds and thorn recovers allies and Shizuka does lots of raw damage and binds too
>>286017569 Making best weapons and finding materials. I lost hours just trying to get the Retribution I needed, but then I had to be lucky to harvest the material I needed. And after that, I had to complete the retribution, which isn't simple with shit AI. I enjoyed the game, but all that RNG made me quit.
I have Freedom Wars. I'm not ready to devote time into it yet, but the other day I started it to take a quick look, and it asked me for my name. What the fuck am I supposed to do, I can't use my real name, it would never fit in the universe, and there's no canon name for any character.
>>286024082 >Freedom Wars thread >I'll post a meta post telling them how great this thread is and saying absolutely nothing relevant to the topic >I can't forget to include an off topic image of a random video game girl as well who has nothing to do with the game on any level
>not a shitpost
