>1 hour in
>10% actual gameplay
Is the whole franchise like this?
Short answer: No.
Long: Some sections may be long winded on the dialogue, but most of the game is driving the Mako.
In 2, most of the game is cover shooting
in 3, most of the game is cover shooting, again.
I'll just get it over with for you now OP. 1 is a better than average but not great game, but plot for 1 is 10/10
2 Is strictly average, plot goes downhill, culminating in a final boss out of an old nes game back when nobody gave two fucks about copyright.
3 is complete ass, the only reason you would want to touch this miserable wreck is waifus. Also the plot is unbelievably shit.
>That one Geth with a rocket launcher during the tutorial mission
>but plot for 1 is 10/10
>ancient evil awakens
>robots beyond compression
>every thing about the game is a rip of of star trek and Farscape
>every thing about the game is a rip of of star trek and Farscape
You mean Star Control. Almost the entire Mass Effect series is a step-for-step rip off of Star Control.
>there will never be a score that captures space exploration and wonder as well as mass effects main title theme
EA has done a lot of terrible things, but I will never be able to forgive them for how badly they butchered Mass Effect.
ME had the potential to be as big as Star Wars and Star Trek. It could have spawned movies, TV shows and a lot more games. It could have been huge. Instead we got...well, you know what we got.
Well, it's essentially a "hardcore" sci fi VN with third person shooter in it. And driving Mako.
Then you realised that shooting parts are bad and Mako controls awful on PC. You wish they fix it.
Then you play the second game.
mass effect was shit to begin with
also, tali? as in taliban? as in, she dresses just like a woman does in the middle east? good one, bioware. that was so subtle.
>ME had the potential to be as big as Star Wars and Star Trek
No, unfortunately 2 and 3 strip away a lot of the RPG elements and the dialogue system is fucked beyond repair. Shame too because it was neat in 1, lots of investigation going on.
I don't think I'll be ever able to replay any ME game. It's dead to me.
well duh that's the soundtrack there not a game it is 100% music 0% gameplay
anon are you dumb?
I still get so fucking angry just by thinking about 3.
I remember thinking it would be one of the greatest games of all time and surpass the original
What even was the point of lying like this? Like, I get the other ones were to desperately save face but what the hell was this?
>Lost is the tv equivalent of ME
the similarities are all there
>plot turns to shit after the first entry(ME1/Lost season 1&2)
>characters are the only things most people retroactively liked about the middle section(ME2/seasons 3-5)
>evil entrepreneur is the bad guy(the illusive man/charles whitmore)
>creators over promised about choices/mysteries
>ending came out of the fucking blue(star child/protector of the island)
am I crazy for seeing this?
Remember when they said... well, basically anything at this point
>tfw I named my shepard christian
Fucking Bioware drones, scum of the planet
The guy who wrote Legion
Note the "some faggot in a suit demanded I write stupid shit because it was "cooler"" part, in particular
The plot is still stupid even with those changes
Who was the retard who killed off Shepard only to bring him back in five minutes and not have it psychologically affect him in any meaningful way
>make the primary antagonists of a third person shooter giant machine gods
>realize that giant machine gods don't fit
>hastily invent baby machine gods so they can be boss fights
I never played Mass Effect for the romances or even the characters (though Legion, Garrus, Wrex, and Mordin were besties). I played it for a fight against giant synthetic overlords and pseudo philosophy about AI. So you can tell how PLEASED I was with the ME3 ending.
>In 2, most of the game is cover shooting
>he never got gud as a vanguard
Yes OP, I am surprised you found any gameplay on ME's soundtrack.
Who fucking though this was a good idea.
this image is so fucking biased its unreal.
I prefer tactical cloak + running around with SMG. It's high risk but high reward too, and really satisfying in game. Vanguard gets like a barrier and stuff for melee attacks.
Main story of ME1 was good. Sure it was standard Campbell but it had some interesting themes and didn't have any glaring plot holes (no, Saren and the Conduit doesn't count- Saren didn't know what the Conduit was to begin with).
What are you talking about? Vanguard is OP as it can get. Probably easiest class right behind soldier.
The main point of interest about ME1 story is everything that concerns humanity's place in galactic society. It was interesting, but NEVER was fleshed out enough. Saren, shitty ancient galactic evil brainwashing squids and mysterious technologies of vanished civilization bullshit was outright boring.
>more than half didn't meet Wrex because they were jumping in at 3
>most popular squad mate - Liara since she was stuffed down your throat the entire game
>Male shep is canon
>not even half beat the fucking game
Good job Bioware for destroying your own fucking IP.
>Saren, shitty ancient galactic evil brainwashing squids and mysterious technologies of vanished civilization bullshit was outright boring.
Disagreed, that's my favorite part of Mass Effect. Ilos in particular is amazing because it focuses on that plot point and delivers it with an ethereal sort of elegance missing from the rest of the series.
Sure he is stronger in third one, but he is strong as fuck in the second too. Enemies cant handle charge.
Is it just me or is Insanity in ME3 SP really easy? Like, the second time I ran through it the game was a breeze, even the stupid Banshee/Brute spam in the last mission didn't irk me that much.
Hardest part of the series remains the Collector Ship.
>anything in mass effect
hahahaha you're bad at vidya dude, i've beat all mass effect games on insanity and they don't even compare to the difficulty of, say, Quake 1 on HARD, let alone Nightmare.
>Giving Edi a body was the best fucking thing.
Fixed that for you
Compared to ME2, ME3 has far less bullet sponge enemies and most enemies can go down with a few shots. So yes, ME3 is really easy compared to the previous games
except for this bitch
>be long time fan
>haven't played any ME since 2012
>decide to do another trilogy playthrough
>complete ME1, get nice feels for ME2
>complete Horizon in ME2
>no urge to continue because I'm reminded ME3 exists
Anyone else know this feel?
Played ME1 for about 5 hours, got fed up with elevators and the abysmal combat system, got as far as Garrus in ME2. Never touching ME3 again.
The shitty ending of 3 didn't change the fact that the entire rest of the game was fantastic. Hating on 3 is just a meme. The gameplay in 2 is miles better than the atrocious combat in 1.
In spite of how much they stripped away the RPG elements, Mass Effect 2 was still a good game. Because after Mass Effect 2 came DA2, TOR, ME3, DA3, all shitshows that in their betrayal of the fanbases retroactively demonstrate that in spite of its flaws ME2 was a pretty good game after all.
Though maybe I'm being unfair, ME3 had a good story at its core buried under the layers of retardation.
you're pretty much right about ME2 being poisoned retroactively.
The fact that it was the beginning of the end sours it quite heavily, and it turns assumptions of mistakes into assumptions of laziness and complacency.
>spending more time fighting cerberus than actual reapers
>dialogue quality plunges to weebrpg levels
>squad size gets butchered, most of the characters you gave a shit about in previous games only have 10 minute cameos
>none of the choices you made in previous game had any effect on anything whatsoever
>reapers no longer a nigh-omnipotent Lovecraftian horror
>reapers turn out to just be bumbling AI that had their 'murder everything' dials turned to 11 by accident by incompetent space lobster species millions of years ago
>atmosphere is kill
And this is omitting all the starchild, RBG ending nonsense. The combat did get a little better but if you were just playing Mass Effect cause you wanted a mediocre, cover-based third person shooter than your opinion on the series is literally worthless.
oh come on, what sort of creatively bankrupt writer would pull shit like that?
It would almost be as bad as claiming saving the Collector's base was a meaningful choice, and then having it be worth something retardedly miniscule.
What are you all talking about? It's a story. It's just grandpa doing the kid a favor.
I just don't know how they could have written the plot/script for the third game and think "Yeah, this is good. This all makes total sense and wraps up all the loose ends in the series nicely." Casey Hudson should have been slapped across the face and blacklisted from the industry before he even got to submit the first draft of this shit.
He did to Mass Effect what Lucas did to Star Wars with the prequel trilogy.
I actually think what he did was even worse than Lucas' mutilation.
At least the fact that it was set so long before, and there wasn't an overlying plot meant you could mentally disconnect the prequels from the originals.
ME3, on the other hand, is in the same timeframe, has tenuous plot links, and uses the same characters.
