ITT: Vidya-related things that fell from grace HARD.
Why hello there, Tim! Let me tell you about this game that I'm making, it will change your life forever...
>OO WATS TAT? YOU WANT A NEW ADVANSU WARUSU? TOO BAD YOU GET FIYA EMBUREM INSTEAD!
>When they look back at it they are fondly remembering their childhood not the game
5k+ people on peak, 2k lowest. Everyone having fun. Classic was decent fun, deal with it. Current WoW is a complete abomination though.
>write a original setting with a interesting take on mages and creation
>fucks everything up with no regrets
nothing went to shit harder than this company
It's probably a good thing that this poor bastard hasn't had a game in years. If Activision still cared about him, he'd just be another Skylander. If Naughty Dog bought him back, he'd go the way of Jak & Daxter since ND only wants to make "mature" story-driven games.
I really think he's fine. I mean he's bipolar so it's like whatever situation he's in he'll either feel suicidal or euphoric. Plus a small amount of people in the world know who he is and think he made some funny stuff so what's the problem?
hell, what kind of bad karma did this series have for it to have such an awful destiny
>T4FFER is to Thief what DMC is to Devil May Cry
>Dishonored was a nice try but ends up being too easy for its own good
>The Dark Mod wasnt successful enough for the community to create content on it
Then again, the whole stealth genre went to shit this last generation.
This wasn't supposed to be there.
The Wii. Thing was hot shit with some damn good games here and there from 2006-2009, supernova'd like a badass in 2010, and then just...died. You can actually count the number of post-2010 Wii games worth a damn on a single hand.
>The Last Story
That's it. Maybe Lost In Shadow, but that's a maybe. It nosedived in relevance at an absurdly fast rate.
I dont know, its an absolute crime what happened to Thief.
I dont know how you can fuck up a series so badly like they did with 4. It did all the things Thief didnt do that made Thief 1/2 so amazing and then put shit writing on top of that.
It was a fucking downgrade of like a 1997 game in almost every single regard.
It should have stopped after IW, yet it keeps being insulted with new shitty games.
at this point I'm pretty sure MS leaves rare to only doing kinect garbage simply to fuck with fans. I guess it doesn't matter though, since apparently next to none of the people behind old rare work at new rare.
Well hello there.
Molyneux has been the Prince of Lies for over a decade, and before that interview I though people found that kind of endearing about him.
On the other hand, Tim's ineptness at running a business and pathetic atttempts to impress his little clique are just painful to watch.
>On the other hand, Tim's ineptness at running a business and pathetic atttempts to impress his little clique are just painful to watch.
He really should learn to shut up after fucking up.
Stop! All of you!
The FPS and MMO genres
Back then i only played games and that was it, but after checking Capcom games from the SNES/PSX era, they were literally god tier and i had played (and loved) most of them without even knowing. It's really sad how far they've fallen.
I see it, but I don't. I'm not a fan of them embracing things like DLC and Amiibos, but the WiiU notwithstanding many of their recent endeavors have been plenty successful, and they still put out some good games here and there. They rely too much on Mario and Zelda these days, but even then they still throw out something like Kid Icarus Uprising once every few years. They might be looking down the cliff, but I wouldn't say they're falling just yet.
He never fell, they just killed him. A couple of shoddy post-MM10 mobile games isn't enough to truly tarnish his legacy. Now if Xover became a series, then he would've fallen. As it is, his integrity remains mostly intact.
>I will never hate a video game as much as I honestly hate Assault Horizon.
That's not MM and I have no hope for it.
I had Xover in mind when posting that, but I guess you're right. He hasn't really fallen, he's just dead. I guess that's better.
>Vidya-related things that fell from grace HARD.
Every single franchise that had a game in the seventh generation. Seriously, name one game from the seventh generation that's the best out of its franchise. You can't, because it is impossible.
Everything I loved about video games as a kid is gone. In its place are DVD menus posing as games and casualized bullshit.
Megaman 9 and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Latter's debatable depending on who you ask, but it is generally seen as one of the better Mario titles in general. I'd argue that MM9 was the best game to come out of the 7th gen though. Either that or TWEWY.
Hello.... Is it me you're looking for?
who the hell can even be hype for mass effect 4?
or anything biowere related.
Why bother when I can play Megaman 1-6? Or the X series? Or the other games that came out?
>Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario World is better.
Sorry, I still hold that every single game past 2006 is more useful as a drink coaster than the horror of actually playing.
I feel like, if anyone really looked at the medium as a whole, it's fallen from grace.
>indie games being mostly shit
It's really sad how the industry itself seems to be a shadow of its former self.
>One of the most original multiplayer experiences available
>Large community with an abundance of servers
>Economy has cannibalized the game
>Character balance got shit on and continues to decline
>Soldier and Demo the only classes to consistently enjoy new weapons during rare updates
>Only furry/brony servers remain consistently active
i shed tears everytime i see this picture.
GTA V, Red Dead Redemption, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Half Life 2, Oblivion, MGS:PW, Fallout: NV, just off the top of my head. Plus all the new IPs like Ass Creed, Mass Effect, No More Heroes, SOULS series, Bam Ham games, Mirrors Edge, Outlast, Portal, Journey, Dragons Dogma. I'm sure I'm forgetting alot but there has been plenty of good games to come out in the last generation. You're just a cynical wanker
Because MM9 is better than MM1-6 (save MAYBE 3) or the X series (save MAYBE X1), and I say that as someone who grew up with the X games. MM9 is one of the few games I would consider to be nigh flawless. It's MM2 with stupid inspired level design and a virtually perfect level of challenge. The only flaw I can think of is that some of the powers are a bit OP, but even that's offset by their sheer fun factor. Most games I have played aren't as all-around excellent as MM9. I would honestly put it in my top 10 games and say unironically that it is the best Megaman game. But that's just my opinion.
Not a lot of days go by without me remembering. It's depressing to think about.
Jesus fucking Christ. I remember this being incredible the first time I started playing this too. Where did the time go?
I never really cared about him. I mean, I watched his videos, but he was one of the only reviewers who actually played a character (instead of pretending to play a character to deflect criticism), so I never got invested in James Rolfe as a person. I just lost interest once his schedule started to slow down and haven't even watched the movie.
Bullshit, the STALKER games all came out after 2007 and are still GOAT. Also Order of Ecclesia was better than most of the latter day Metroidvanias and far better than Castlevania: Lords of Epic Grim.
>Assertion organics and synthetics can not coexist.
>Geth and Quarians making peace literally in the same game and fighting together, again quite literally right out the window is never addressed.
I will never be over this.
3 doesn't even have any replayability. There's nothing to do outside like 7 side missions which are all just "Shoot Cerberus/Reaper forces in these multiplayer map levels".
All actual content was reduced to playing "pinging the map" and "dodging reapers on the map" then going back and forth between the Citadel and the location someone blurted out that you eavesdropped on.
To be honest almost all Ace Combat games are cringe-worthy. But 6 wasn't nearly as cringey as 5. Fucking Funimation-tier voice acting and that stupid j-pop song of peace, not to mention them making the afterburners purple.
Ace Combat 4 is still excellent though, I don't think I cringed once.
To be fair, these guys were forced by publishers to do what they did.
What do Tim Schaefer and Adolf Hitler have in common? They both burned millions and never accomplished their end goals.
It went to shit because of Ricer Era.
Underground as a spin off? Yea why not, but as the main series, god damn.
New ones are just Burnouts, and without the wacky stuff, they aren't that great.
>tfw You will never be anthony burch
>ACfags talk about feeling like brave pilots and shit
>mfw they probably never touched a sim
Bitch, please, AC is like air guitar
Why did they fucking trash the entire series just to make three weak God of War rip-offs?
JUST FUCKING WHY!
>fell from grace
sonic was never held in high graces in the first place, he's always been an autism icon, it just wasnt until recent years that everyone recognized this. Star Fox too.
At least Hitler wasn't afraid of voicing his opinions instead of hiding behind a sock puppet.
I've stopped supporting so many companies that it's funny.
>soon From Software
Console gaming puts a frown on my face.
If DmC outsells the dmc4SE my heart wont be able to take it
I did not say it was bad, it just that his other Ultima Review were really confy, y'know, he talking about a series he loves. But then, in his Ultima 9 review, it was painful to watch Spoony. His FFXIII review is shit
The marketing people, who got promoted to the top, thought it was a good idea and the creative people just exist to act out their whims. That's how all companies go to shit.
>>One of the most original multiplayer experiences available
yeah, NO you fucking faggot. TF2 was a hack-assed incomplete version of quake team fortress with less than half of the weapons/subweapons the original game had. Fuck you and fuck anyone who thinks that game was any good, even on release before all the hats and sidegrade weapons.
Original experience my ass, Robin Walker ruined Team Fortress forever.
Once you make an MMO and people don't like it, that's it.
They also sidelined IGA into making shitty mobile games until he left...only to get hired by a South Korean company to make more shitty mobile games. Poor guy can't catch a break.
It's almost hard to believe that there was once a time where EA was pretty based. It's only a matter of time before EA shuts every studio down except EA Sports and then gets exclusive rights to every sports license so they can make shitty games every year without consequences.
Fuck you ALL, Sonics coming back and his loyal fanbase is the key for all of it.
The 3.3 million dollar man fell from grace? All his games are fucking commercial duds, he just gets his buddies in the industry to vouch for him and give him good scores and that's how he keeps getting money to do shit. He's a fucking hack, always was
Hello there! I'm the critic of fond memories and I look back so you don't have to!
That series died, anon. Its dead
Oh, suddenly sales are the measure of a great game, how convenient.
at a certain point if you're in the "selling games" industry you have to actually sell games. His best selling game ever was Brutal Legends, which was ironically his biggest dud yet because of the budget used to make it with all the licensed music/rock stars.
i've always been here, i had to take my trip off cause mods banned the old one. i'm going to get it back though. they need me to help them control this place, and all the filth-ridden animals that inhabit it.
>they need me to help them control this place
And you're calling Sonicfags autistic.
Squeenix and Capcom are weird in that for all their bullshit, they'll occasionally shit out a nugget of pure greatness like Ghost Trick or TWEWY that reminds you just how awesome these people have the capacity to be, and then it just keeps not happening. And I dunno about Activision. Creativity-wise I guess, but fuck if Kotick does not know how to make money.
if only you knew who's really pulling the strings around here :^)
>And you're calling Sonicfags autistic.
You're right, anon. Sonicfags are the pride of all creation.
You're an idiot if you think Sonic wasn't praised at one point. But I'm just assuming you're a troll now, especially after the "your post is against the rules" bullshit. So, whatever.
ITT: people who have long since fallen from grace, and are now bouncing
hell no i'm not a fucking janitor or part of the 4chan staff officially, i get paid to do this
in fat dank nuggets of marijuana
here is an ancient meme to prove my authenticity
You guys are pretty much the only people who dislike Schafer, and only because he disagrees with your iill founded political views. You can pretend he's hated all you want, but its nothing more than your own circle jerk
It feels like yesterday seeing people hyped for WoW because Based Rob Pardo was in charge and was going to kick ass again.
And then he left. I had no interest in ever joining WoW again and I still got depressed because it was so sad to hear.
>>Why would you care about that unless you're a shareholder?
>why would you care that a publisher keeps pushing crap no one (including you) wants
Fucking Saturdays, it's like a goddamn preview of the horrible school's out summerfags bombarding this place every year
Only recently seen what Tim did at that conference. What he did was deny the existence of any one minority that disagrees with his point of view in a room full of white people.
Seriously, what the flying fuck?
To be honest I kinda liked how they handled MK8 and Hyrule Warriors. Theres a lot of content in them then more a few months down the line when you're done with it. When every game starts coming with a season pass from day one, I think I'll write them off for good, but at the moment I think they've found a sweet spot, I just hope they stick with it
Cliffy isn't a bad guy, he's just clearly not too bright.
He's the definitive brogamer dev. It's shocking to remember that he actually programmed his own games when you'd think he was just partying it up.
Don't forget, he was in a video made by McIntosh about male privilege in video games.
You know, the guy who uses Sarkeesian as a sock puppet.
all of WoW is a fucking horrible game when compared to its predecessors (UO, EQ, AO, DAoC, etc)
it did absolutely nothing right and absolutely everything wrong, there is not ONE single positive thing about world of warcraft. Not one. Auction house is a BAD thing, folks. It eliminates barter and trade entirely.
If they had just given the damn game to the community to take care of. There'd still be a Tribes Ascend community.
I'll never understand why you'd make a PC Exclusive Multiplayer and not give dev tools to the public. Fans will literally keep your game fresh and improve it for free.
Holy shit this thread is depressing. Is there anything that can redeem vidya, or is it too late?
>born in 1982/1983
>sonic was release in 1991
>less than 10 years when sonic was released
Too young to remember the scenario. 38 here. Sonic was big enough to pull Genesis sales up, allowing Sega to become the true rival for Nintendo in early 90´s. Before Sonic, Sega was successful only on Arcades. Master System was a blunder
Who keeps making these?
I remember how recently he accidentally posted his cellphone number someplace and someone got hold of it, and everyone called him and sent him text messages, and instead of disconnecting it or getting angry and requesting them to stop it, he answered most of them and spoke to people on the phone from the other side of the globe. And most of them (at least here on /v/) were very nice and polite and complimented him, and reported that he was generally very kind and thanked them.
After that I got to think of him as a cool guy.
>he's always been an autism icon
He was never autism icon. He was Mega-Franchise phenomenon, represented a phase of cool to kids, that spawned dozens of mascots in his success. Sonic is the Halo of the 1990's.
The only people think Sonic was never held with high regard are hipster weebs that have forgotten that those shitty Sonic games fund your shitty niche nip projects.
When did that happen? I don't recall ever hearing about that.
>people saying valve
Seriously? It's probably the least scummy, bureaucratic gaming company there is. Only flaw in steam i know of is the slow interface and bad customer support, all of their games have received 8+/10 scores and they've never lied to gamers about anything. They offer great sales and are probably one of the best companies to work for in the world.
You know how Ubisoft and EA go on about how "30 fps is more cinematic" so they don't accidentally say "The xbone and the ps4 have outdated hardware and we're having trouble making games that run well on them"? Valve literally said that the PS3's hardware was garbage and it was giving them troubles developing for the console which resulted in them either not developing games for it or letting other companies like EA port their games on the PS3.
I see absolutely no reason (a reason that's a "big deal", that is) to hate this company. What the hell is wrong with you people?
He wasn't an autism icon in the 90s, but he surely is nowadays.
I just don't give a shit about extremists on either side. You people are just as annoying and retarded as SJWs. Just because I don't support ISIS doesn't mean I'm going to join Westboro Baptist Church.
TF2 was such a fun game back then.
It was the first FPS shooter type game I have ever played that had this really cool system of balance that rewarded players to work together to complete a common goal. Players would try to use their class effectivly like demo panting stickys on point rather then trying to sticky spam. Spy players focused more on sapping a sentry then they did always back stabbing that defensive playng scout.
I really want to make a modded server of this game and change a few things like try demo man with righteous bison instead of grenade launcher or shotgun instead of grenade launcher...
I mean back then it was such a cool game to just log into and play to pass some time and players were not focused on leveling up and unlocking stuff...
Nice repeated mantra. Unlike being anti sjw, being anti GG is pretty much a license to suck media and sjw cock. Being indifferent is fine but anti GG makes no sense from a consumer perspective. Stop being a fucking faggot
>implying halo was ever good
i feel like ODST they were really getting into the groove but then just all downhill and now 343 is desecrating a fucked to death pile of ashes
How does pro GG make sense from a consumer perspective? You guys have never gone after the gaming companies responsible for anti-consumerism, not fucking once. Your movement is solely about SJWs war
Hey guys am I allowed to leave the mini-game ghetto yet?
>talking like a baby
I'm sorry I've offended your gender fluid right to hate everything that tumblr told you to. Please continue to be be angry at a group that expose the games media. Those shitlords!
>Exposes the gaming media
Still don't remember GG ever going after EA or rockstar or nintendo for bad business practices. Didn't you guys just go after gawker, a company that literally has nothing to do with vidya?
>Triple A IGN circlejerk produces nothing but bland safe games and anti-consumer dlc and preorder practices for years
Lol who cares! did you hear indies think there should be stronger womyn? what a bunch of fags lets spam stupid shit on twitter and suck conservative big-business cock
Sure defended my consumer perspective
>Criterion created some of the most fantastic games out there
>Burnout Paradise was the epitome of the series although arguably not as fun as Revenge.
>Hot pursuit remake which was the best title in the series at the time
>"EA: Go back to ripping the hell out of Fast and Furious"
This will never make sense to me.
>He thinks gawker controls the gaming media when we have indisputable proof dating back decades that review scores, review copies etc are all handed out by publishers and if you give them bad reviews they will pull advertising and review copies from you leaving your site/magazine unable to review their games
Gawker does not control shit. EA, Rockstar etc tell these sites what reviews to give. If you're going to join a movement, atleast know your history
>goobergaters ruin the thread
>NO ONE HAS ANY REASON TO HATE US
At this point I am convinced whoever wrote that SVU episode goes to /v/ and made the comparison GGfags act like ISIS
>PRAISE BE TO GG! YOU ARE WITH US OR AGAINST US
The worst thing about Peter is the fact that long time ago he had a habit to deliver his promises. And he was creative as fuck.
>Black and White
And then fucking Fable happened.
To me, the originality came from the cartoon style, rather than the gritty, edgy style that came from making mods off the Quake engines. Combine that with the dialogue (which would soon become grating after one year when people meme the shit out of it) and you felt like a non-depressed Bob Hoskins.
It is obvious he is taking fan requests now. He is still a a talented person but let's not fool ourselves
This logo not-so-long time ago was like a seal of quality for me.
Hell, they've bombed harder than EA because EA was never as good as Capcom, even at their peak.
Black and White was the beginning of the end, he made a bunch of promises but delivered a game that felt pretty unfinished and boring in parts.
I still enjoyed 1 and 2, there's just nothing else like them, except Populus if you don't care about the creature.
The reason Capcom actually died was because it shifted from being a developer to a publisher
I haven't checked in a while but I looked a few years ago, and the last game Capcom actually developed was DMC4, they outsource EVERYTHING almost entirely now and don't really have a dev team of their own.
A fair point, though it could be argued that series like Street Fighter or Megaman never fell off. They've respectively still go strong and died with most of their dignity intact.
>Gears ruined a genre
How is TPS a genre that was ever widely renowned?
They made UT3 afterwards and that was nowhere as bad as people said, especially after Black Edition.
And, Gears was good.
Commence the grey-and-brown whack-a-mole beefcake mclargehuge shitposting, I'm still right.
>though it could be argued that series like Street Fighter or Megaman never fell off
Megaman is dead thanks to Capcom's great decisions and SF5 will follow LoL/KI business model.
UT3 was garbage due to the console focus and killed that franchise until literally this week as well
Gears of War had huge knockon effects and meant that all TPS had to be shallow cover shooters with the minimum colour possible. I can't even be bothered listing all the game's problems so I'll only list some of the worst
>popularised the terrible, terrible artstyle of grey/brown n bloom and space marine shit
>even more responsible for the dudebro cancer infesting FPS and TPS than Halo or CoD
>terrible, terrible netcode, yet a singleplayer that is absolutely unbearable unless you co op it (the most blatant 'it's fun with friends though!' game I know
>gameplay is incredibly shallow, you're doing exactly the same thing at the start of the game you are at the end
Gears is fucking terrible, even moreso than CoD and Hal, which at least had some merits to them.
Actually I'm getting better every day.
The only time you see (you) is when someone replies to your post and even if you copied and pasted it, that would require someone else to already have replied.
Its basically an epik way of discrediting someone.
Capcom is really strange in how much they manage to do well while still fucking up.
They can still pump out games like Monster Hunter and Street Fighter fairly frequently.
They've failed at westernizing IPs like DMC and Lost Planet
and they seem to hate IPs like Breath of Fire and Darkstalkers
>the man himself
>anonymous post on an anonymous imageboard
I'd rather be anthony burch than the autist who made this collage
Eidos/LG looked at Dishonored and had their "Bubsy 3D moment." Instead of just plowing ahead to release, they went back and tried to copy a winning formula. Without a leaked alpha build, we will never know if they were really on the right track.
>go to britbong uni
>work making things from posters to Vidya
>actually get to program and not just be an idea guy
>get tons of job opportunities for work with companies as large as IBM
be in immediate debt because britbong uni loans dont cover rent barely ever have free time this will be my life
In ME you often stumble upon answers to problems you haven't encountered yet. You find a specific as hell medicine for a really rare disease and then stumble upon some guy who just happens to have that illness or something to that effect, so Shepard usually ends up helping people way before he's even asked.
>Soldier and Demo the only classes to consistently enjoy new weapons during rare updates
yeah what's with that? They're my least least favorite classes to play but I've got an inventory stuffed with items for them.
