Earlier this morning I felt pretty shitty about it, but there's no point in worrying until more is revealed. I'm swallowing the blue pill of people saying it's just a tactic to draw a new market into their core platforms.
No, but it felt like a punch in the gut. I've been playing nintendo stuff since the 80s. I own a Wii U, but I've mostly moved on to other things. I still can't help but root for Nintendo. They're like vidya comfort food for me.
More money in Nintendo pockets is good as long as they continue console gaming. I think they can't really abandon it like that, unless Miyamoto literally dies or ragequit they have to get him his playground
Why would you be upset that a company you like made a wise financial decision that will prolong and further embed their business into the minds of their users? If anyone should be crying it's all the faggots that think it's cool to hate Nintendo.
I'm actually pretty satisfied by the news. I can't wait to hear/see all the buttblasted Sonybros and Xboners.
As someone who primarily plays Sony games, this is a good thing. Nintendo has always had good games that would mostly be better in handheld (if they're not there already), but their hardware (especially their god awful controllers barring the GC) and system infrastructure has always been shit.
Nintendo for handheld and mobile games on the go. Sony for sitting on the couch with your buddies. PC for digging deep into a quality game.
“As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename “NX.” It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year.”
>>287296938 Well shit. I guess that is it, then. I mean, I'll always take an interest in Nintendo's affairs, but there goes any impetus to make content for any audience a micron above the lowest common denominator.
Bless you Nintendo, wherever the hell you're heading.
Remember when Square announced they were making mobile games but focusing on console?
It's all downhill from here.
I literally love Nintendo. They're the one constant in my life from childhood. The rest of the industry went to shit and they existed in their little bubble, giving us the only good games this gen. Now it's over. Nintendo will be a shell of it's former self in a few years.
>>287297527 Good, you faggots need a wakeup call so you can come down from your high of Reggie and Iwata farts. They're not benevolent entity, they don't care about you personally. They're a fucking company and they want your money more than anything.
>People are actually this retarded 1. Nintendo isn't making the games themselves. 2. No Nintendo titles will be used, instead new titles with old IPs will be made 3. DeNA was chosen for it's web service construction and operation know-how
>>287296584 I don't understand how bad that can be. It's not like their going to drop consoles for a phone that has a touch screen. It would be like marvel making movies instead of writing com...oh no.
>>287296670 >Nintendo start by releasing a simple $1.99 Mario Run game, trying not to seem to cash-grabby >Casuals go nuts over seeing Mario on their iphone and Nintendo makes more profit from it in a week than they made in total from Mario 3D World >Amazed by their profit, Nintendo soon after releases a F2P Smash Bros tower-defense mobile game with cash shop shit up the ass >Nintendo amasses more profit from it in just days than they did in total from Smash 4 >Nintendo then releases their next mainline pokemon titles as mobile exlusives with even more cash shop shit >Nintendo reports record-breaking profits overnight far surpassing any other Pokemon releases > Nintendo asks themselves "lol why did we even bother with those consoles and hanhelds and shit for all these years?"
>>287297142 >Why would you be upset that a company you like made a wise financial decision that will prolong and further embed their business into the minds of their users? Because that decision is made to attract a demographic that isn't me and runs contrary to my interests in the company i.e. Focusing on traditional platforms entirely.
>>287298309 Doesn't matter. It's still a secondary controller. Ever system has god tier secondary controllers, sometimes made by other companies, sometimes not. It's more shit you have to buy, and the reason you have to buy it is because the controller Nintendo included with the console is fucking retarded.
>>287297839 This, at the very least it'll be a good wake up call for stubborn Nintentoddlers in the long run. And damn do they need it, after shamelessly supporting amiibo, controller gimmicks, scalping, casualization of the main franchises and so on.
Maybe now, some of them won't blindly follow Nintendo anymore.
>>287299307 >Have to have a bunch of little toys cluttering up your house to play a game >Have to pay for them >Have to physically buy each of them >Have to scan them >Have to make sure they're even available >Have to pay extra for manufacturing costs and shipping
No, it would under no circumstances be better. If you want a statue, buy a statue. If you want content for a video game that's not included with the game out of the box, download it. You shouldn't have to snipe some faggot on Ebay to get extra content for a video game.
>>287299349 Yeah, but the DS was a superior console. This is just the CDi again. They're gonna make some shitty mobile games with Nintendo characters, fail miserably, and be pushed into the corner with the virtual boy and the 64 disc drive.
>Gaming is moving into a place where we don't own wacky hardware for each game, special tailor made harware with it's own quirks and games made for it
>Everything becomes a one size fits all, all languages and denominations, free of any content that would offend any singular human on the planet, all homogenous with clinically perfect graphics and no fucking soul at all
Fuck this god damn shit. I have allways had a powerful PC, but I've allways respected the quirky dodgyness of console/nintendo hardware, because those limitations and what not allow the developers to think outside the box to make things happen.
If every single game becomes a multiplat, it'll just become bland and no sparkle anymore. I look at the steam store page, every day there are 20 new releases all with generic names and design as the ones the day before.
>>287300283 The quality of the product doesn't matter. Whichever makes more money, is what they will cater to. And considering the average intelligence of smartphone "gamers" Nintendo will make a killing off of this.
>>287296287 I was stunned because Nintendo seemed to generally disfavor the mobile market of games that don't appear on their systems. I am ultimately curious as what will happen to the 3DS from here on. If the new mobile games do really well then it could start to put a clamp on the 3DS.
I tried playing a few popular mobile games over the course of the last week and holy shit are people mentally defunct? The core gameplay loop of half of this shit is to tap some buildings and then wait an increasing amount of time to tap them again, or pay money to tap them again right away. How does this shit stay entertaining for people?
Why would I cry about getting mobile Nintendo titles alongside a new dedicated gaming platform in the coming years? Or are you just spreading the wild misinformation that Nintendo is ditching the proper games market in favor of iOS games like an insufferable little shit?
>Nintendo partners with mobile developer to allow use of Nintendo IPs in mobile games under Nintendo's supervision >Iwata confirms new dedicated video game hardware in the process to let people know that they aren't dropping consoles >He reiterates they will continue developing games as they have been and the smartphone games will not be watered down ports of existing or new console games
That's all you really need to know. Anybody implying Nintendo has gone full mobile and is ditching dedicated hardware is shitposting/intentionally spreading misinformation.
>>287296416 So Nintendo announced that they would be replacing the N3DS and the WiiU within a couple of years, making both worthless, and you think that this will draw a new market into their platforms?
The WiiU's only been out for 2 years, and the N3DS just launched. To me, that's the sign of blood in the water.
>>287296287 I was full TUMBLING DOWN mode last night, but looking at everything now there are some entirely good things (a real Nintendo account system, possibly extending to PC gaming). It is possible the mobile games might not be entirely shit, I don't see a problem with $5 one-time-pay WarioWare style minigame collections. I'm just worried because the mobile platform is so inherently shitty and cancerous and Nintendo isn't directly developing the games, there's plenty more potential for it to turn into microtransaction "pay 0.99 for Mario to jump higher" bullshit. Some of the speculation about the NX is also promising or at least interesting, like it potentially being a standalone/third platform "Nitnendo Tablet" sort of thing, like a powerful WiiU controller with both touchscreen and buttons options.
More important than anything is that Nintendo is acknowledging they can't just sit on their Wii/DS/3DS money forever and are actually taking drastic action to stay relevant, which is very promising for the future if they can avoid selling their soul.
>>287302961 Money can change the nature of a man And there is very much money to be found in the mobile market I'm personally hoping it will be stuff like the Pikmin movies for mobile, but it probably won't be so
Is everyone in this thread retarded? You guys had a heart attack when SEGA Sammy bought Atlus, did anything happen? Hell no. Now you all are calling doomsday over a partnership. Not a merger, not a buyout, a PARTNERSHIP. You all are retarded.
>>287302251 >announced that they would be replacing the N3DS and the WiiU within a couple of years 1. No they didn't, you fucking retard 2. Yes, every single console by every single hardware manufacturer has been "replaced within a couple years". At the absolute earliest NX will be replacing either system maybe half a year earlier than is typical, assuming it's a direct replacement to either at all. >making both worthless Because everyone knows once the next gen starts, the old consoles and games disappear and publishers ignore them completely.
>>287296938 >Nintendo shifting away from hardware and making phone games.
Except, if you were actually paying attention, this is the exact opposite of what is true. They said they are more focused on consoles than ever and announced their next generation console. Mobile gaming is just going to be a supplement to what they are really doing.
Honestly, I'd rather see them try this ambitious conglomerate of the mobile and console markets and risk turning into another King.com then them recede into an increasingly shaky business model and just die. Also I keep thinking back to how Celebi had to be unlocked through japanese cell phones.
>>287303054 I did, nothing but fags saying something about nintendo and mobile phone games. They announced this months ago that they were going to advertise in the mobile market but not actually make full games for them.
I never understood this level of brand loyalty. I love the classic Nintendo games just as much as anyone else but it really is about the games. Who honestly truly defends platform exclusivity in this day and age let alone fucking cry over it.
>>287302521 I'm not that mongoloid, but Itawa more or less said the NX is going to be "officially" revealed in 2016 (presumably at E3), and assuming it is the successor to the Wii U, precedent says it will likely be released around November 2017.
>>287303738 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_games Find them yourself. On the handheld side of things, the DS's last Pokémon games were released over a year after the 3DS came out.
>>287304581 It's an educated guess based on a source saying that they are planning on revealing a new dedicated gaming platform next year. Try using your brain for once rather than just regurgitation text.
>>287304749 Considering how many people just ponied up money for the N3DS, I genuinely look forward to people still sucking Nintendo's dick by getting the new handheld the very second it releases, and talking about how awesome it is.
Personally, I knew that the N3DS was just a hold over until they would release their next handheld, likely in 1-2 years. Maybe that one will actually be on par with the PSP. After all, it's been a solid decade. One would think that they might get around to matching the power and ease of use of the PSP at some point.
>Leveraging the strength of Nintendo's intellectual property (IP) and game development skills in combination with DeNA's world-class expertise in mobile games, both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo's IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices.
They are both gonna develop games for mobile.
>In order to create completely new game experiences for smart devices, all Nintendo IP will be eligible for development and exploration by the alliance.
We're gonna see mobile game representation of all of Nintendo's IPs.
>First games are coming out fall 2015
Iwata: "Only a handful of companies have become winners in this environment. If Nintendo does not become one of those handful of winners then it does not make sense for us to make software for those devices"
Nintendo is so serious about this that they plan to become the kings of mobile gaming.
>>287305331 >>287305358 >As part of the long-term relationship and commitment by each company, Nintendo and DeNA have also agreed to form a capital alliance. Under the capital alliance, Nintendo will acquire 15,081,000 of DeNA's treasury shares, which corresponds to 10.00 percent of its total outstanding stock, for a total of approximately 22 billion yen. DeNA will simultaneously acquire 1,759,400 of Nintendo's treasury shares, which corresponds to 1.24 percent of its outstanding stock, for a total of approximately 22 billion yen. The payment is due April 2, 2015.
Nintendo's gonna print money from all the upcoming mobile games they're gonna release.
>>287306157 Nah Nintendo's gonna make great mobile games because
a) they can use microtransactions and milk money off people b) get them to buy their consoles and handhelds for the ones sick of microtransactions and just want the games c)convince people to all download nintendo games
>/v/ is full of retards saying "gaming is dead!" just because things are shitty for Nintendo "It's a bad day for Nintendoland, therefore, the world!"
Nintendo has been shit for about 10 years now. I'm amazed it's taken you all this long to realize it. They never cared about you. You are not the audience they think they deserve. They want children and grandparents to buy their games-- not manchildren. They sold you out with the Wii and they're selling you out again by going mobile. They want nothing to do with you.
>>287296287 what they should do is make like advertisment type games on the iphone and shit that advertise their handheld and console games, IF they make the dumb descion to make real games on phones they fucked themselves because then people will just ask them to port their other real games to iphone not wanting their hardware effectively killing them
If we see more pokedex 3d's on iphone nintendo will give fans a taste of whats on their console but if they release zelda iphone edition they kill all future handheld zeldas because people will want zelda for iphone 2.
Think of their iphone games as companion apps with no specific companion game, now if I am wrong and they do make full fledged games nintendo killed themselves and get no sympathy from me
>>287306472 I still think there's some Nintendo themed love hotel somewhere in Japan that they keep under wraps. Would you like the Pikmin suite or the Donkey Kong Tropical Tree Hut? The Bowser Boom Boom Room?
yes, I cried for the better half of the day. Ninty basically gave our enemies in war ammunition to shoot at us, the fans. I never thought ninty would do such a fucking horrid thing. now we will never hear the end of 'phonetendo' that's what we get for supporting Nintendo so long...
but then I thought this could be a good move. it'll be hell defending ninty for the next year, but they know what is best. The mobile move will essentially make them enough yen to support even bigger and better consoles and dedicated handhelds. and then the suffering in the meantime will pay off...
its all about delayed gratification. best solution IMO... Just avoid /v/ for a year. once NX comes out the sonyggers will have hell to pay. they will be purged from /v/ and ran back to Neogaf.
so don't fret too much OP. were in it together, and Ninty always comes out strong.
>>287307017 My argument to that is that the PSP is 10 years old. We've gotten to the point to where that kind of graphical fidelity would be very cheap, and Nintendo still hasn't matched it.
Personally, I don't care. I won't be buying their next handheld, nor their next console. Not until their VC library is actually worth a damn, and will be free to redownload on all subsequent purchases.
Yes, I will vote with my wallet, and I will vote over some of the most insignificant things.
>>287307153 >To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimized for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the Wii U home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system.
>>287307084 welp then nintendo is dead you will be hearing this for years to come "why buy a nintendo console all there games are on my phone" "fucking nintendo I am not buying another console from you again" "I do not own a wii u bring mario kart 8 to iphone" "I do not want to pay 40 dollars for pokemon port to iphone as a free to play game"
This has to be the dumbest idea ever now people who were on the fence for nintendo to go third party have this to use as a reason to say they should
>>287307307 So, that's what Nintendo shareholders are thinking right now: >Nintendo was making consoles, and its been nothing but losses recently >Now they go mobile, and shares raised 27% already >JETTISON THE CONSOLE DEPARTMENT, WE'RE FOCUSING ON MOBILES NOW
Because either one of three things happen. We might start getting great mobile games. Nintendo might try and have it turn out shit, find out it doesn't work as planned and return to business as usual. Or Nintendo might love it, put out a Nintendo Steam Machine and just make crappy PC/iOS games from now on. The first would be good, the second no different than what we have, and the third no different except I could play my Steam games on the console.
>>287296670 /v/ enjoys generalizations and expecting worse case scenario’s too much to care about something as meaningless as the truth anon. By the way, amiibo are physical DLC, region lock is the spawn of satan, Nintendo makes the same games over and over again with no differences, and anyone that denies this does so because its okay when Nintendo does it and they are nintencucks.
I pray that if the NX is a handheld that they actually build it to be held by human hands. If i try it at a friend's house and I can't play ti for more than a half hour without severe cramps, it's dropped forever, even if it has all the games ive ever wanted on it also since i'm not uber-pessimistic like the rest of /v/, I'm not gonna give a fuck about the mobil games unless that shit invades the mainline games
>>287298090 >It's a secondary controller. You lose features using it. You shouldn't have to compromise on order to not have a shit controller. The good one should come standard. I've an issue with this. First there's shitposting about "LOL I'D NEVER BE CAUGHT DEAD WITH THE FISHER PRICE TABLET" and then there's this "YEAH WELL I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE FEATURES"
also that classic tactic of us nintendo fans hearing shitty news and saying "ITS BETTER IN THE LONG RUN BECAUSE NOW X" (now more people will know about the ips and will want to buy consoles and that money will go into making new zeldas) is delusion.
the reason why nintendo branched out into mobile with their ips is so they can find a new place of revenue instead of working on expensive 1st party games for their traditional consoles.
i'm telling you all wii sports, wii fit, wii music, wii play, wii party selling 100 million units broke nintendo. they dont want to waste 4 years working on a masterpiece only for it to sell averagely when they spent 2 weeks making wii fit and it sold outrageously. they want another blue ocean the wii has BROKE them.
thats why gameplay and content has taken a hit in their recent games. thats why the last 3 console zelda games starred toon links/cell shading. thats why mario kart 8 was bare bones and no battle mode, its why mario party 10 is literally a wii party reskin with less maps than any of the 9 other games in the series had.
iwata summed it up himself during one of his iwata asks "there was a time where we thought the longer we worked on a game the more sales it would get, ever since the wii we now know this to be false"
I don't get why people are forcing some form of upset status over this shit. Nintendo announced sometime in 2013 or last year that they had plans to put their IPs on mobile platforms to try and lure more people to their own platforms (3DS/Wii U being the ones in mind right NOW and for the foreseeable future, even with the announcement of NX). All Nintendo did besides out NX being in development was announce which company they are getting help from doing this shit. Literally nothing will change other than Mario and other iconic Nintendo figures will make official, licensed appearances in mobile games.
>>287310036 >nitendo is bascially saying "fuck it" for the Wii U. This annoys me the most. Do I have anything to look forward to after 2015? Probably not much, which makes the Wii U's library quite small. I can understand wanting to put out a new system to get people to buy it but c'mon, there are people who picked up your current system for a reason.
The announcement will just help to kill off the Wii U as well, since nobody is going to grab a new one when NX is coming out in a few years. 2018/Late 2017 most likely, but if they haven't bought a Wii U yet, they'll be content to just wait.
>>287310485 they've said fuck it way before the wii u. they said fuck it back in 2011 and 2012 when the wii got absolutely nothing but touch generation games and the only worthwhile wii game in 2012 was translated in english because of a fan campaign.
it's over, nintendo doesn't give two shits about the core fanbase or gameplay at all anymore only the bottom line
>>287310485 If you purchased early, you knew that was a risk. If you didn't, then you knew the library was already small, and you have nobody but yourself to blame.
I don't own a WiiU, and I don't even like my 3DS or my Wii, but come on, anon. This is common sense. Take the lesson and remember it the next time the company you like shits out a new console. Perhaps you will wait a few years to see how it is doing.
>>287310350 Iwata said they were just gonna make apps, but noone expected them to buy 10% of a company that's infamous for making microtransaction apps, then announce that they're making full featured mobile games for mobiles.
Nintendo went third party today, it's a history moment in gaming.
>people on this website can't just enjoy games this is why being an idort pleases me, i dont get assblasted when a fucking corporation does something i don't think is in my best interest. there will still be good games you fucks. some of them will be made by nintendo and some won't
>>287310353 I don't think it's laziness as much as Nintendo making a concerted effort to NOT look like the modern standard of "AAA GAMING".
The last time Nintendo had a piece of hardware that was at or near contemporary technological standards was with the Gamecube, a decade ago. They've spent the last 10 years developing games on weak hardware, and somewhere along the way they probably realized that they shouldn't even bother chasing after the high fidelity realism of their rivals, because they couldn't hope to keep pace.
Instead, they focus on clean, iconographic visuals and put their focus on rock solid performance, which probably sets them apart from the competition more than their cartoon graphics. Plus, it likely helps to keep their dev costs in check, as they transition to HD content and an increasingly niche fanbase to cater to.
>>287311331 Did you ever play Mario 64? Donkey Kong Country? Smash 64? Ocarina of Time? Kirby 64 and Dream Land 3? They were all far more realistic than the plastic, overly cartoony sterile murder garbage they spew out today in order to appeal to soccer moms afraid of letting their children play mature media with lovecraftian influences and actual atmosphere.
>>287311373 I liked the N64. Of course, I believe I was in 5th grade when it released. I got the GC before I got my PS2. I have roughly 6-8 games for the GC, and around 60 games for the PS2. That was the point that I decided to abandon Nintendo, and start checking out the competition.
>>287311107 You're right about that. I doubt my mind will EVER be blown by a videogame like it was by SM64 back when it came out. It was fucking jaw dropping how good it looked. PCFats at the time must've shit a brick.
You just have to keep in mind 90% of /v/ was sloshing around their father's ballsack at this time.
I don't understand that image tho, they both look terrible.
>>287311329 >has an artstyle confirmed for having no clue what you are talking about >>287311293 it's because they used mainly primary colors, lower polycounts, and less realistic textures with shittier lighting. it makes the game not as good MUH GRAFIXly and it comes out "cartoony"
making something cartoony is just easier to do then making a game with really good graphics
>>287311553 in every single one of these images I prefer the "plastic" design over the horribly dated "realistic" (that doesn't look remotely realistic and really does not fit in with the character models imo).
>>287311107 Mario games, 2D or 3D, have never been graphical showcases. I've been playing Mario games since 1989, and that's total revisionist bullshit.
Even back on the NES, most of the major 3rd party companies put out prettier, more technologically demanding games than Nintendo did. Nothing Nintendo published came close to late generation Capcom and Konami graphics. Even Sunsoft was doing some high end shit.
>>287296287 Not me, I've actually been feeling better than I have in a long time. I'd go so far as to call it happiness, honestly. I can't help but smile like an idiot half the time, and I can't remember the last time I felt this way.
>>287311846 What you are looking at when you look at the "realistic" is over 10 years old. That was pretty fucking awesome back then. Today, you would be seeing their hair blow in the breeze if they wanted to try.
>>287311530 the wii u is a very strong piece of hardware ehh i completely think they do it just to cut down on dev times, why make games with really great graphics if you know your fans are going to buy a game based on the ip and not the gameplay/look.
Pikmin 3, Mario kart 8 were fucking beautiful. it's just sad the last 3 console zelda games were cell shaded when we have such powerful hardware.
>>287312317 just know that brawl came out like 8 years ago. the jump from melee to brawl graphically was ridiculous, especially since the hardware was identical. the jump from brawl to smash 4 was no where near as good as it should have been. hell mario kart 8 looks better than smash 4
>>287312317 just know that brawl came out like 8 years ago. the jump from melee to brawl graphically was ridiculous, especially since the hardware was identical. the jump from brawl to smash 4 was no where near as good as it should have been. hell mario kart 8 looks better than smash 4 >>287312664 >i want games to look super simple and bad on purpose so in 20 years i can say "oh it looks good because its simple"
you are a retard, what's even the point of nintendo upgrading their hardware if you want every game to look like wind waker?
>>287312660 no one said they are getting out of hardware, but if mobile or QOL succeeds then they will put less effort into making good high budget good games like console zeldas and eventually drop out of the non profitable traditional gaming all together to make fucking content free mobile game shlock
>>287312963 >what's even the point of nintendo upgrading their hardware if you want every game to look like wind waker? Larger worlds, ability to patch, DLC, better loading speeds, a bunch of other shit unrelated to graphics, your mom. The best part about it is that the simplicity works in their favour because it still looks good and allows them to focus on the gameplay.
>>287312787 Sega, in all honesty, is very financially secure nowadays (those arcade and pachinko sales are ridiculous). They could definitely make a console if they wanted to. The only question is, would they want to? It'd probably do well if they aggressively marketed it, possibly with a "back and better than ever" approach, but it would possibly be a huge waste of money.
>>287313579 >It looks vastly better than any of the characters in 3D world. That's debatable, you can see a lot more problems on the resistance textures and models than you can on the Mario ones in all honesty.
In the end it comes down to whether or not you like grey realism or not.
>>287296287 I don't want to be all doom and gloom. Maybe this will turn out for the better, but this is just a sign that things change. It sickens me to see all the people who are glad because they think it's the first step toward them going third party, but we have to face the fact that mobile gaming is changing the industry more than the casuals and dudebros ever did. Nintendo needs to stay in the eyes of the children if they want them to grow into loyal customers.
Video games may die, but we will always have the 40 years of excellence where games were being made for and by true video game enthusiasts, just think of the thousands of games you missed while you were growing up. If video games become too changed from what they once were, there will always at least be that.
>>287313953 >barely above late PS2 shit anon. It was a launch title, so that was to be expected, although I don't think you have much in the way of memory for the PS2. The very best games still only looked like FF8 cutscenes.
But I find what you say funny, as Nintendo hasn't seemed to have done anything since the GC.
>>287315002 Nah, this is where the kiddies say that their plastic looking nintendo games look great while PS3 games look like ass today, as though the difference is anywhere near the difference between 1996 and 2006.
>>287296287 For those too lazy or stupid to actually listen to the conference, here's a summary:
1. DeNA apparently makes good mobile games and applications, so Nintendo is letting them handle nintnedo IPs and series on mobile platforrms. They'll also be makingthe new reward points system to replace Club Nintendo.
2. Nintendo will still be focusing on dedicated game platforms as they always have. We won't see market strategies used in the mobile market bleed over to game consoles without special care taken to preserve the expected experience, and visa versa (no microtransactions in consoles, no $60 mobile games)
3. A new Nintendo platform, the "NX" mentioned previously, was mentioned, but only briefly. More as a deterrent to the doomwishers that will attack Nintendo for dealing in mobile games when they said they had no plans to.
That's about the size of it. Iwata really wanted people to know that Nintendo isn't Nintendoomed, they're just trying to evolve with the market. Seems like the NX might have some connectivity to mobile devices and PCs, as well as to the WiiU and 3DS.
>>287315216 I know, right? I personally just don't get what's with all the people clamoring about being the "Nintendoomed Prophet" and whatnot. All they did was announce that they will potentially be making ? amount of games from ? amount of series for mobile devices. Along with that, even if you didn't already take the hint, they just announced that they would be having another console for the next generation.
In the mean time, they'll probably be talking about the Wii U and 3DS next in the inevitable upcoming Nintendo Direct soon.
>>287297527 The difference is that Squenix doesn't have a tiny thing called HARDWARE MARKET to lose while Nintendo does.
People need to understand taht the mobile games will most likely be used as advertisement for their console/handheld games. "Did you enjoy the game? Well you can get a shitload more if you buy the game on the WiiU/3DS. Here is a convenient placed link that leads you tot the e-shop."
They will make small games with the "Nintendo spirit" but they will never replace Nintendo's main income. As Iwata himself said, the smart device market is fairly unstable and it's not worth risking your future on it. They will use the smart device market rather then try to make a big profit from it. I trust Iwata more than any other CEO of any other company simply because they guy loves games, he plays them, he makes them. So yeah, I would say that he knows what we want. "We" as in Nintendo's core fanbase.
>They'll port old games and remakes. Generally things that don't cost a lot and will appeal to the idiots who already emulate SNES games on their phone. And honestly, this buys right into "le sprite art" games anyway.
>Nintendo is stagnant anyway, so something like this is A: not changing their tactics and B: won't matter, because they're FUCKING STAGNANT
>Nintendo have always been better at portable games anyway. I mean, there wouldn't be a mobile market without them to begin with
>I haven't bought a Nintendo console since the Wii anyway, just like most of the rest of the world. So who is this really effecting?
>the 3DS is still their precious little bitch, so they won't abandon that right away, even if they DO go full mobile.
What exactly is there to worry about/
So? Sega went full PC/mobile. OK, Sonic Dash (or whatever) is the best Sonic game in fucking years... Nintendo is more or less putting their pinkie toes into he water here, and likely won't go full retard with any of it. At worst, we'll end up with android games that tie in with Wii U games with cross save files or something stupid like that. Nothing too major.
>Leveraging the strength of Nintendo's intellectual property (IP) and game development skills in combination with DeNA's world-class expertise in mobile games, both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo's IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices. The alliance is intended to complement Nintendo's dedicated video game systems business and extend Nintendo's reach into the vast market of smart device users worldwide. Under the alliance, DeNA will also be able to strengthen its gaming business at a global scale by leveraging Nintendo's IP. To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimized for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the Wii U home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system.
They're making games for mobile and PC. How is that not 3rd party?
>>287315952 This, le XD. Nintendo is DOOMED! We should all bend the news around so silly nintendo worshippers give up and decide to spend their money in a more MATURE way, liking giving it to greater companies such as Sony™ or Microsoft™.
They already said they would be doing this, like forever ago.
All that mentioning of leveraging IP, using smartphones to advertise and attract people to Nintendo platforms, they've been saying this for almost a year now.
And that is EXACTLY what this is. They aren't bringing 3DS games to smartphones, or even Virtual Console games like SMB. They are getting a company to make content with their IP, that's it.
I'm not a fan of it, and it's pretty much guaranteed shit either way because mobile, but it will hopefully at least be avoidable, and if nothing else it at least does NOT take manpower off of developing 3DS and Wii U games.
>>287316328 Please show me where in that paragraph it says what you just said. because the actual conference has them saying that DeNA will be making games for mobile devices while Nintendo will continue making games for their dedicated gaming platformes. The new NX will have some connectivity with the 3ds, WiiU, mobile devices, and PC, but they said nothing about making games for mobile or PC except that Nintendo will not be doing it.
>>287316730 Don't get ahead of yourself, Nintoddler. Now, I know you're used to having no games, and I understand that you might want something similar, but instead, you could try a platform that has some games. Maybe one of the ones you missed out on because you kept shitposting about it nonstop.
So DeNA's stock prices didn't change at all since the announcement which is surprising. Nintendo owns 10% of the company and if everything goes well, I could see either Nintendo buying more or someone else buying them. Why aren't people buying their stocks?
>>287316631 >>287316869 >Iwata: Nintendo and DeNA will jointly develop and operate gaming applications for smart devices in global markets. With this alliance, new entertainment that utilizes Nintendo’s IP will be provided globally via smart devices.
They are both making games for mobile, not DeNA alone. Nintendo is serious about this and is putting their developers into this.
>>287316772 >Leveraging the strength of Nintendo's intellectual property (IP) and game development skills in combination with DeNA's world-class expertise in mobile games, both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo's IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices. >both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo's IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices. >both companies
>>287306157 It might not be that bad, but it's still got grave implications for the future of Nintendo as a hardware maker.
Nintendo isn't just licensing out-- they are making it official with this company, because they traded shares of each other's stock. That's not the same as a merger since it was a small percentage, but it shows that Nintendo is serious about entering the mobile space and they want to make things more permanent than just a one-time deal.
>>287317039 No, YOU have nothing that suggest that. Nintendo obviously has something or they wouldn't be making such a move. DeNA said that they could get up to 100M daily active user with the Nintendo IP's. http://mynintendonews.com/2015/03/17/dena-believes-they-can-reach-100-million-daily-active-users-with-nintendos-ip-on-smart-devices/
Do you really believe that a company would make such a freaking huge move without doing their research?
>If anything, the mobile market will stay on mobile. Oh wise anon please tell me what information you have that is suggesting this. All the information I have are suggesting that the vidya console/PC market is growing faster and faster including pretty much every single demographics, including mobile user. Other data suggest that the mobile user and console user market usually overlap, meaning that the console user has a smart device which could be used for advertisement.
>Pikmin 3 >The Wonderful 101 >Mario Kart 8 >Super Mario 3D World >Kirby & the Rainbow Curse >Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker >Hyrule Warriors >Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze >Bayonetta 2 >Nintendo Land
Why do people keep saying that Nintendo is just dipping their toes into the market?
Iwata is fully serious about conquering the mobile gaming market.
Iwata: The fact is, however, it is a highly competitive market and only a handful of content providers have been able to show enduring results. If Nintendo cannot make it to that handful of winners, it does not make sense for us to be engaged in the software business on smart devices.
>>287318007 Where are any of the information you have anon? You're the one pulling them out of your ass.
Literally first 2 links from google. http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2012/07/18/new-reports-forecasts-global-video-game-industry-will-reach-82-billion-by-2017/ http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/2614915
I didn't think I need to cite sources about that because everyone ho isn't a moron has read one of the million variations of the same kind of news that shows that vidya keeps growing from year to year. Seems like you have been living under a stone for the past 2 decades.
>>287318556 Born in 89 with an NES hand-me-down since money was always tight.
Fuck off. Even back then the industry was ripe with horseshit and shady as fuck tactics with quality titles going completely under the radar. Earthbound isn't a $170+ used game these days because everyone and their mother bought it when it came out.
