>>289013686 RS: Seige is basically if you took Counter-Strike and merge it with recent Battlefield. Since it's all multiplayer, tactics are more about making a route to the objective (and back out where applicable) and not getting your team killed. But that doesn't make it a tactical shooter at all besides the Rainbow Six getting a pre-match time to survey.
The big wigs in the AAA companies water down their games and spread them extremely thin so as to cover as wide of an audience as possible.
Niche games are a riskier endeavor, and there's no need to take risks when you can practically guarantee a massive ROI on a safe action FPS.
It's up to the smaller companies to cater to niches like this. No AAA company in existence would dare make a game like Pillars of Eternity, yet Obsidian gets it crowd funded in no time and it becomes the #1 top seller on Steam. The market for games like this exists, it's just not worth the risk to try and capture it. to these companies.
The fucking Resident Evil Remaster outsold Resident Evil 6, despite Capcom claiming for years that survival horror like that was dead. AAA companies are missing out on so much money. Its almost like some sort of conspiracy to not make good games.
>>289015335 The tactics used in it don't resemble actual battle tactics at all.
The most effective way to win in the video is everyone just going to different rooms. There is no room clearing and coordinated assaults. Its an arena with both sides running around lobbing grenades at each other.
I'm not shitting on it. It actually looks pretty fun. But it certainly won't scratch the SWAT 4 or Raven Shield itch at all.
so annoyed at how both swat 3 and 4 devolve into "just starting shooting and never stop" within four levels. I'm on a level in 4 right now that has literally 30 bad guys in body armor and AK's. this is not a job for a five-man swat team.
I cant find it, the video was on RPS, but there was this game, still at alpha stage that was fairly interesting.
Basically it was SWAT versus Terrorists. SWAT come in from outside into a random generated building. both team before starting the match are shown the map (SWAT have an outline of the building while the Terrorists see the INSIDE) They can all point, circle, draw to make up tactics. Then choose from a little arsenal their loadout. And go.
P.S. Guess which company has the SWAT right. Hint: Sierra used to have them.
>>289014308 >>289015335 Hardcore tactic fans want it so your accuracy spread is fullscreen when you take a step, so you practically need to deploy a magical bipod in order to make any shot, which of course means recoil stronger than anything known to mankind.
pretty much, especially because if you hit the compliance key a bunch, it'll actually queue the shouts, so you'll end with something like this:
>door opens >SHOW ME YOUR HANDS >suspect opens up, swat team returns fire and kills him >PUT THE WEAPON DOWN >walk over to corpse >GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW >pick up weapon, report dead body >SHOW ME YOUR HANDS >"TOC we have a dead-" >ON THE GROUND, NOW!
>start discussing swat >/vg/ was still new and the /v/ "long" threads could last more than 30 minutes without posting >create a /vg/ general of tactical games >join in a newly created /v/ swat group >rally them up a couple of time even if I cant make the server myself because of my shitty internet >due to a new provider I cant use Tunngle anymore >stop completely following the group >no games, ever >feel guilty
Still, playing with 10 other persons was quite great, even the VIP mode was fun expecially because none of us had played it before.
>>289018906 thanks anon. Everyone check this shit out. >>289018140 Bingo. I wonder, why wont ever try to experiment a bit, take Gears of War 2, considered a "triple A" game right? Well it cost 10 million dollars. That is not a lot to "waste" for a company such as Activision. Consider if they sell it at 50 dollars and sell a "mere" 500.000, that is 25 millions.
>>289019886 nowadays, our only hope seems to be, for indie devs to get big and recreate their ideas in the scale they deserve. SO far I have not seen it. Fucking Mojang, they made so much money and then what?
>>289016846 That actually sounds a lot like Due Process, especially the rebuilt generated tiny houses part, but I have no idea of the game will be released at all, and even if it is the graphics might be bare minimalistic
It's rally a nice game since the planning phase takes like 10 minutes for a fight that can be over in seconds
>>289017105 yeah imo the early missions are GOAT. The restaurant, the spooky house, the bank...all great and memorable. If I knew how to code multiplayer shit I'd literally make this game but with less bullshit
>>289020125 yes, just learn to use your cameras and guys effectively and the first couple of missions are really great. Just be careful cause your team will fuck up sometimes but otherwise it's a blast
>>289021258 >read about Rainbow Six las vegas 2 being GOTY. >get it on PS3 years later for 5-3 euros. >enjoy but with a somewhat casual fun
>you can only give 6 very basic orders and your team is not even made of 6 members (rainbow SIX my ass) but counting you, 4. >sound often breaks and can be annoying, music does not work when playing multi, machinegunners drive you crazy with a short looping sound that no matter where you are take over EVERY OTHER SOUND and sometimes it can even stuck until you restart the level, a level has an helicopter rotors sounding as if they were next to your ear. >grafics are SHIT >playing in Coop, also supports only 2 players, anyway the framerate is an unstable 30 and often goes way below until it becomes a slow slideshow. >poorly implemented physX back when it was not in the hands of Nvidia and only helps killing the framerate >repetitive thug's chatter >idiotic AI >night vision is completely useless, in the only level where the lights are taken out, every single enemy has it and you cant even blind them with your flashlight and thermal vision range is probably less than of a real life shotgun >resistance 1 had better and customizable controls and that game came at the PS3 launch, for instance aiming down the sight is done with R3 >campaign maps have a linear approach with maybe 2 ways to get in. >stealth is unexistant, even if silencers exist because enemy may not hear you emptying entire mags and grenades from the other room OR will automatically know if a buddy close to them was killed, even if a silenced gun was employed. >guns are mostly reskin of each other >the amount of armor you use is irrelevant, it wont slow you down and neither seems to make a relevant change at protecting
>"REALISTIC" difficulty still keeps pistols with unlimited ammo, it only gives fewer grenades and enemies do more damage.
>>289020814 >driver rams truck into front door >5 swat members pile out the back >flashbangs everywhere >HOLY SHIT IM BLIND >JUST KEEP MOVING >whole squad gets wiped by friendly fire >last team mate never left the truck and gets shot out
>>289022263 if you want to play the additional maps with friends. (they need to download them by themselves too) Go to downloads--->multimode maps. Ignore the seal maps, they are not fit for SWAT, they are like Gmod maps.
>>289023776 is there a stupidproof way to get a little lan of SWAT4 going? I tried to just give everyone my pirated version on a usb key but we couldn't connect for some reason. There's always something not working in lans.
>>289015614 Ground Branch is Vaporware. I've been watching it since 2008 and I doubt John will be able to get the amount of money he needs to make it the quality product that we all want. At best, it'll have an Insurgency level of polish which isn't too bad, but not the grand successor to Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon that we all want. It's an issue of money and manpower.
>>289023370 I don't think the future weapons have made it more attractive for casuals. Most people don't even know the difference and just want to play Arma 3 life/Battle Royale/Wasteland/Breaking Point because they saw their favorite youtuber/twitch streamer play it. Thankfully RHS is picking up the slack, but their configs are pretty bad. They have great artists, but the vehicles are plagued with easily fixable issues
>>289015696 >The tactics used in it don't resemble actual battle tactics at all. Neither does Swat 4 when you get into multiplayer.
>The most effective way to win in the video is everyone just going to different rooms Same in Swat 4. At most, you just need 2 people with each other so one can cover your flank in case some retarded tango AI broke and they run around the map.
>There is no room clearing and coordinated assaults. There was definitely coordinated assaults and room clearing, but I'll admit they were weak. Hopefully, we get to see more about how it works in the upcoming months.
Also, do you know if Swat 4 is dead? I dropped it once the serverlist died.
>>289013686 All the recent gameplay coming out of their event looks terrible. Team mate outlines through walls, +100 everytime you get a kill, wall hack heartbeat sensors, and giant ass hitmarkers have ruined it.
>>289013514 I still play this shit with friends. I'd almost be okay with inviting some people from /v/ into our games if I wasn't sure 99% of you would ruin the experience. We also play a handful of other games too. All you need is tunngle.
>>289028929 That's been up for YEARS. The last noteworthy thing Novalogic has done was suing Activision over the Delta Force logo in MW3 since Delta Force is not a unit officially recognized by the US Army and Nova apparently owns the trademarks of the logo
>>289028575 David left because he needed a job that paid more. He's still on very good terms with the Dev team and still does Skype meetings with them as an Advisor. There's a bunch of other former Zipper staff that is working on it and will keep it true to his vision. However, this will probably be pretty low budget, so temper your expectations. The SOCOM games were 2nd party Sony games, so they received a fair budget compared to this independent project. Alpha/Beta is expected to come out within a month and they've been doing weekly updates
>>289019568 Movement in Rainbow Six games, especially the older ones, have been pretty fast in PvP. This actually looks slower because in the old games, you could run around everywhere with your gun up and that's what everyone did. The real tactics came in SP/Coop or private matches.
>>289013514 why did the genre die anyway? i remember this game went to my hand from a few friends when i was like 12yo and everyone used to play it quite often... also, rainbow six vegas 2 was a success. so i can't really see why did this kinda unique genre died
I played 200 hours of Arma 3 but I have to say it's shit and I feel cheated of my 50 europoors. It's painfully obvious that the game is running on an engine from 1994 ago being held together with chewing gum. The community is ass, everyone just wants to play Wasteland (DayZ for casuals) Epoch (GTA with zombies) or Altis Life (autism for autists)
The game released like 2 years ago and only NOW are we getting deployable bipods. Really. And the guns are all awful. No such thing as tactical reloads in Arma 3. Not to mention the bullshit body armour where everyone can take 3 7.62 NATOs into the face and not bat an eyelid. Developers still haven't fixed basic issues from Arma 2 like the fucking camera being able to ghost through walls and proximity based item activation. They called this farce of a game a finished product.
I put a lot of hours into Arma 3's infantry simulation side, at ~30 FPS the whole way I might add, but I wouldn't recommend this shit game to anybody
>>289030886 I think it's because it can't be translated to consoles well, and consoles are where the dosh is. And there's not too much creative freedom to be had with a realistic sim game. There's not that much blockbuster action when your whole squad goes down by Allah Adam shooting your shit through a thin wall.
>>289030657 Weapon collision with the enviroment. Basically if a weapon barrel is touching a wall, have the weapon lower. This way, people can't shoot through solid objects because the top of their head is sticking out of cover. Of course this assumes that you've programmed the game so that bullets come out of the barrel and not out of the eyes of the player like most FPS. This also helps with gun balance because short barrel weapons will have an advantage in close quarters
>>289031320 It's actually a pretty big dick move. Guys in the unit made that logo and showed it to the devs at Novalogic. They took it and trademarked it for themselves because the Army can't officially recognize it. And now they're just sitting on it. Is Novalogic even a business entity anymore?
>>289031326 I did run mods. And I played frequently on a 40 player coop server before I had enough of the framerate issues. But my issues are with the game itself. No amount of content mods can fix the shitheap that is Arma 3.
>>289031330 but the two things could coexist. i remember playing modern warfare along with rainbow six and no one died... but was before every minor to major company doing fps games replicating the "we want the call of duty audience" sentence everywhere
>>289032002 it's an engine problem, the game's engine is pretty buggy and lacks optimization and since it's proprietary and those problems were never solved by arma studio they will probably never be fixed - just wait for a new version of it, if possible done from scratch
>>289032006 They can indeed coexist, but it takes a lot more effort and risk. Risk is a huge factor to making these kinds of games. It's a whole lot harder to keep a wide audience interested in a niche genre like this and to keep them from being frustrated. If no one plays, all that work -- and money -- is for naught. Companies would rather sell a product they know they can make a profit on than something that could end up with them losing tons. Just look at the original System Shock. It is fantastic, very much ahead of its time, tells a great story, has a wondrous atmosphere, etc.. But despite all this, it ended up costing the company money, even after getting nothing but praise from reviews and magazines. Shit sucks, but that's business.
>>289030886 >why did the genre die anyway? Ubisoft turned Red Storm into a console action game developer after Raven Shield and none of the competing franchises from other developers ever gained traction.
