I don't see how 7 discs worth of content can be construed as a bad thing. People should be excited about this kind of thing.
This is like saying "Wow you need such a huge safe to keep all of your gold in? What are you gay?"
It's no ones fault but the publisher that they want to keep using obsolete packaging methods. I mean DVDs? Come on now.
Just because you package it on disc for consoles doesn't mean it needs to be that way on PC. Hell it seems a lot of PC users don't even bother with disc drives anymore.
>I don't even have an optical disc drive
Oh, so you have a digital disc drive, then?
Considering drives can be Blu-ray, all the way down to basic CD's, saying optical disc drive is the correct way of saying it.
Tell me, what do you call a USB Flash drive?
Or is it the fact that he doesn't cling to an archaic medium?
I actually bought the new Wolfenstein on disc. Don't bully me please.
We all do, it's called a virtual drive.
What was your point again ?
Almost as much fps as the PS3/PS4 version
So IGN write a dumb article and dumb spics who don't realise that most people download the game think we're getting fucked even though there's no way around it other than getting 2 Blu Ray discs?
>720p/30fps/3m draw distance is the definitive version guys!
>m-mods are bad!
>I d-didnt even want extra content like animals and cars!
>Forty minutes of butthurt and schadenfreude
My point was that saying that a disc drive is optical is a fucking oxymoron, stupid. There are no "digital disc drives", what you posted is a fucking disc drive emulator.
>d-d-do i f-fit in y-yet, /v/???????????????????'
Sorry, dude, but you need to be 18 years old or older to be browsing this site. Now get out of here before the scary mods find you.
Probably just uncompressed sound files and large textures. 38gb of Titanfall's PC install was from uncompressed audio to free resources from sound decompression
or to deter pirates, but you have to be retarded to pirate an always-on game.
>what you posted is a fucking disc drive emulator.
So you would say that his disc drive is...
Like, just to be clear. We are all in understanding that CD-Roms were invented in 1985. Literally 30 years ago.
There's no even comprehensible reason we should be caring about them. New laptops are sold without disc drives and have been for years now my computer hasn't had a disc drive since 2005, it's obsolete.
The internet is easier, faster and smoother for most consumers downloading/installing programs. For anything else, a USB thumb drive is like 4$ for 16gb now at a store, which means they're probably less than 1$ to make.
1: Tautology =/= oxymoron.
2: Optical disc is the correct general term for CDs, DVDs, etc. Optical disc drive (ODD) is the device used for reading them.
3: You can stop posting now. It's okay.
>tfw 22mb/s connection
>tfw anything below 24mb/s isn't considered broadband according to the FCC
I have a disk drive plugged into my power supply, so it can open and the LED works, but I used its cord for an extra HD. I use it to store pancakes because it's near the warm parts of the computer.
The only reasons OEM still come with a drive are competition and support from discs.
Wich doesn't need to go any further than a 10$ cheap reader, if Windows came on a bluray you'd see them everywhere.
This wouldn't be a problem if we figured out a way to make use of the hole in the middle.
the only reason I don't is because I don't have a way to neatly arrange another SATA power cable up there, and I'd probably almost never use the fucking thing anyway. If I want to watch a movie there's a usually a streaming service or at least a torrent for it, if I want to install a large file that's what the internet is for. Blu-Ray is just the first optical storage medium that will be made obsolete by the internet.
Blu Ray were extermly expensive when they first launch, people are poor fucks. They just stuck with their DVD/CD drives instead. It's much cheaper to bundle your laptop without disk drive or dvd then a Blu ray drive.
External hard drive, lack of bundle blu-ray drives, Broadband internet, Digital Content is what killed Bluray drive. The primary weakness of Bluray is their specialized drives to read and write content on Discs. External usb hard drives are great is to carry around, and storage stuff into . Even through Discs are the cheapest for storage, you have to buy a drive AND the disc which can as much as a 1tb drive.
>still using disks at all instead of vastly better storage media
Wow thanks a lot consoles!
>By adding the possibility of being able to handle errors, the research team could reduce the cost of DNA synthesis down to ~$500/MB by choosing a more error-prone DNA synthesis method.
b-but master race
ok sure. Seven. For slow in the head people.
Seriously, I don't know why people think optical drives are still important. I just got one in my desktop less than 6 months ago, and that was just for a few games that I bought physically because
I like physical copies
I kinda like having multiple disks. It's pretty cool.
Sure if it was just one "Plug in your GTA V Installation USB" or "Put in your Blu-ray disk." That'd be better. But, at 2MB/s Time Warner internet, I'd prefer disks.
Since this network has 2 other people on it.
>TFW we're back in the early 2000's when games took 5 CDs
That was part of fun though. Go to the store, pick up the latest Sims expansion, uninstall the Sims, defrag, and then spend a few hours putting in disc after disc. Good times~
>need 7 disks
>Blu Ray is 50GB
There's no reason for PC games not to be on Blu Ray by now, right?
So you are getting worked up because there is a version for people who actually do have optical drives?
I doubt anyone would buy bluray games on the PC since most people don't have a bluray drive. Or when it comes to high end gamers, any optical drive at all.
Only low end PCs usually have optical.
>Only low end PCs usually have optical.
N-no! M-my rig is good, I swear!
It actually is, and I only brought a blu-ray drive for it because one of my mates got me FMA: Brotherhood complete for my birthday, and none of my Blu-Ray players were the right region, so I brought a Blu-Ray player specifically to unregion-lock it and watch FMA. Don't judge.
>Bought a blu-ray drive for my PC
>The box said it was only to be sold in North & South America
>I'm from the UK
>It wont play any of my DVD's
>Blu-Ray is region free
Can I set the DVD region to the UK without it fucking up blu-ray being region free?
Worst reporting in. That's because of the Rockstar Social club downloader though, not my speed. On Steam I would have been done way faster. I saved $40 though getting the non-steam Nuuvem version.
I have an optical drive because I basically jammed one in my case and I can't seem to remove it. Nothing else would be going in that slot so it's not a big deal. If I wanted it out I suppose I could detach a bunch of shit and hammer it out. Don't feel like it though.
can /v/ download 65gb in 24 hours?
You are either part of the 8% of internet with 15 Mbps of download, swapping 7 discs is gonna be a shitload faster than downloading 65gb for like 92% of the world
I don't get this meme. You only use those 7 discs once. On PS4 you need the disc everytime you pl-
>it's a shitposting thread
oh okay. AYY LMAO. YEET. ON FLEEK.
KEKE TOP LEL
>the year of our lord two thousand and fifteen
Yknow, why don't they look into this as an option? A fucking 32gb or 64gb flash drive would be enough for most games these days, even the LOLSOHUEG ones and would likely be cheaper and easier to ship in bulk than CDs, if you take into account the burning process, extra space costs and whatnot.
Also, as far as "Seven" discs, if we're assuming 7 4gb DVDs, that's "only" 28gb, which is average these days, some of the higher ones are upwards of fucking 50gb now.
Not that I give a shit either way, I've played 2 GTAs ever and only 4 was fun as more than just a random murder simulator
A study showed that sales DVD/Blu rays went up after recent pirate bay got shut down. Sales DVD/Blu rays went down after pirate bay go back.
People want physical copies because you cannot depend of digital distribuction forever.
I've never understood this, what's significant about it?
I don't know if this will actually work, I don't see why it wouldn't though
Here's how you do it
Select just the bo and rp
so like this
Now select the bo and rp again
and spoiler it once more
>You're welcome newfags :^3
tl;dr select br and rp, and press CTRL + S, (This spoils it), then spoiler it again :^)
>Using the equivalent of floppy discs
It doesn't matter if 1,000 anons buy the Steam edition, or Gabe Steam is loudmouthed and trusted; and causes 100 000 additional people to buy the physical copy of the game because its faster that download 65gb.
>tfw took me 2 days to download it but its finally done
Post yfw Mustards finally exposed as still having teeny-weeny DVD-drives, in 2015
Gyazo a shit
>Casual console-shitters too stupid to build in a bd-disc drive
>Major release has to be on dvd due to Post-2006 "gamer"fucks
>"lol pc master race XD"
Should have just released it on bd anyways and let the retards rot.
Im buying that shit
No, it just runs like an extension.
Just click on any iso to mount it and thats it, you can mount as many iso files as you wany.
Just try it, i can assure its the best thats out there
literally nobody I know has a connection worse than that, even my fucking parents who struggle to use gmail
and even then, you could just start the download in the background and do other shit, like play vidya or shitpost on /v/, unless you REALLY TOTALLY HAD TO PLAY IT RIGHT NOW, in which case you already fucked up by waiting for the PC version :^)
I didn't bother getting a dvd drive for my desktop and the only problem I had because of that was installing windows, as my toaster laptop couldn't flash a bootstick larger than 4gb, but I borrowed my friend's laptop for that, so yeah.
and well, my old game dvds are literally useless now, but who cares, I didn't even bother taking them with me when I moved out.
Now that the code was cracked, I wanna see you faggots do this shit.
>buying PHYSICAL games
>not pirating it
>not getting the repack that removes that filesize bloat
It's like you're all fucking retarded
You know, you might not understand, but in some parts of the world - even in powerful midde european countries with a strong economy and the finest engineers the worlds knows - there are certain areas that get shat on by the government on a daily basis. This means for me that I download at about 170 kbps if nobody else uses the connection. Downloading 60GB would simply clog my internet for DAYS. And I also don't want to let my machine run continuosly when I am not at home.
And apparently you also have a really shitty taste if you don't even play your old games anymore.

50GB dual layered BD with some decent compression could get it on, since you're not actually running the game off the disks obviously you can just compress the files a shit ton, like what microsoft does for windows install disks, the majority of the data on that is pretty heavily compressed
the problem is, BD burners and the disks never got cheap enough, also streaming, so suddenly there's far less of a market to have a drive that does that, and lets face it, who wants a bd drive only to read bds?
