Get the vsync patch and play at 120 fps
You'll feel like you're cheating after you get used to it and go back to 60.
Try playing touhou in windowed instead of full screen, it helps some people since you can see more of the screen at once.
Yeah, I prefer full screen, but I'm more used to looking anywhere but my hitbox. Some people swear by playing windowed mode, though.
I'm just a waifufag who's kinda good at 2hu, that's all
Oh, cool, I'm that as well. Remi isn't my waifu though.
Every hour spent playing a Touhou game could be an hour spent playing a superior CAVE shooter.
I want Miko to administrate my dick.
Miko's actually a boy, you know.
>Implying Miko wouldn't be the dominating part of the relationship
The order to play them in is as follows :
8 > 7 > 6 > 10 > 11 > 14 >12 (13 is shit)
Remember to get the vpatch, at least for 6 through 9.
At the same time, play 9.5, 12.5 and 12.8 occasionally.
Once you've 1cc'd all the games on normal or higher, start looking up the story and characters on the wiki until you understand the plot for each game, and know all characters by name and know enough about them.
Then, start reading the books and manga.
After all that, you'll not only be good at touhou, but you also won't be tainted by loads of secondary shit before you know the actual canon.
That order is shit to begin with since Imperishable Night will teach you bad habits with bombing. Good way to get into the series is start with PCB and move on from there.
8 is best to start with since it allows you to learn how to dodge thanks to generous deathbombs. In others you'd just bomb hard cards straight away if you were starting off since you knew you wouldn't have a chance.
Well the gameplay mechanics are different from the regular games and as you said, deathbombing is very generous and forgiving which may teach new players bad habits once they move on to later games.
>This garbage opinion.
You need to play 6 first, then 7 and 8 in whatever order. Then play 10 - 13 in order. Play 14 any time after 6. If you still want more, play the pc98 games, 2 - 5. Play 9 after playing 6, 7, and 8. There's no real reason to play 1 aside from some good music. 1 is the only game I would consider optional, you should really try all other games at some point.
>wasn't this shit supposed to hit the sony consoles?
While Sony's announcement was very misleading, it was always simply a few select fan games. ZUN presumably wants to keep the series true to its roots as a doujin pc game, and the odds of any of the official games coming to console is fairly slim.
>Official games will be available too at a later date.
Oh, they could at least got a few like the original instead of rogue likes and rpgs.
As other anon mentioned, play them in order starting from 6, while it doesn't show your hitbox, it has simple patterns in normal mode and doesn't have any score gimmicks, the v-patch is optional and makes the game a lot easier but if you are struggling with your reaction time then use it.
Also disregard anyone saying that 13 is bad, while some of the games are weaker than other entries none of them are bad.
I want to watch someone play the hardest level/boss fight in this entire series.
Where can I find a video of this.
I've literally only ever experienced porn parodies of Touhou and from said parodies I've deduced that Remilia is the best.
I think they just went with some of the more popular ones.
This is true
No where near the hardest, but this one is visually impressive and fun to watch.
This is the hardest stage in the series, though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvaGPhlDfV0
Notice I said stage, not boss.
Rika is tough, but she's not the toughest.
If you want to go into potentially toughest, that's this boss.
Yes, I tried doing a no item run in ISC and that card was pretty fucking hard. While the first phase with the knives is not that hard, the real killer is doing the spin arround her, it requires a lot of pressicion and good timing with your fingers.
I never captured it because the stress was unbearable but i have to admit that i only tried to capture it a few times.
There are other card that are extremely hard too but most of those are because there is a lot of RNG involved.
Nigga, i can't play lunatic and even i beat Rika.
Gengetsu timeout is much much harder and probably truly impossible,
Those are visually pretty boring to watch.
I thought super hard Touhou stages would have the player flying around the screen but they're basically not moving or barely moving.
I mean sure it's mechanically impressive to dodge all the shots perfectly but it's like watching someone hold their breath for fifteen minutes. It's insane sure, but you're watching some guy do nothing underwater.
Rika's stage is easy too, i don't know why would you find that hard after learning how to dodge those really cheap traps.
>Those are visually pretty boring to watch.
You asked for harder not most impressive, there are a lot of patterns that involve what you are saying but are not nearly as hard as those examples.
Try adding killer sharks into the mix while still holding your breath, and while they do give you a pistol and a time limit in which they'll call off the sharks after a minute, then bring in a new wave of sharks.
Also they're rainbow colors, sick music with trumpets inserted into almost every god damn track, and you have to wear a cute skirt and hat.
All while holding your breath under water.
So I just jumped into Perfect Cherry Blossom
I don't know what the fuck is going on, except red blocks make me stronger and pressing X helps with all that crazy spam.
I just beat the musical triplets, how do I save?
And this game is only going to get crazier isnt it?
>you will never get the good ending in a single touhou game
Maybe I'd get better if I played some other bullet hell games.
It's one of the few touhou games I've played but it's really fun imo. Do it phaggot.
>how do I save?
I hate weebshit but absolutely love touhou.
What does make me?
Think of it as an arcade game of sorts.
It's only 6 stages long
plus an extra stage, but you complete that separatelybut you're supposed to be able to do a full run in one sitting, once you've gotten good at the game.
Before you get a million replies making fun of you for that, I should let you know that you lose out on a stage if you play on easy. The game prevents you from entering the final stage.
You should never play on easy, you will only hold yourself back, plus, if you play easy in EoSD you will never get to level 6 and in the end Sakuya will mock you for being a casual.
What the fuck is wrong with you people looking for meaning in some shitty game with almost no dialog, shitty story because it it has cute anime girls. If i wanted to play a game for the story i'd read a visual novel, not this shit. The whole story is "let me pass" "no" "i'll kill you", yet you faggots go ape shit over it, just because its filled with fucking anime girls
go play a game with a real story faggots
Is there a way to get soku running in wide-screen?
I wouldn't really call the story shit. It's not mind blowing, but it's decent for a shmup.
Story is different to dialogue, that's what people keep getting wrong. Imperishable Night has a really complex story and backstory, but the in-game dialogue is shallow.
The DoD translation never got finished, did it? Do you think one could play it without knowing moon?
The individual plot devices are pretty stupid but I like the overall story arc from 10 to 13.5.
Blame the translators for that one. IN has the worst fan translation in the series, by far, even surpassing EoSD's "I don't know how to translate jokes" translation.
>my face when fighting Sakuya for the very first time (It was my first Touhou game and Bullet Hell game in general)
a story should either be amazing or not exist at all. There's no point in getting into a mediocre story because there is so many superior ones.
>looking for meaning in some game with a shit story because it has cure anime girls
thats exactly what i mean
What's your favorite soundtrack from the entire series?
Stop making yourself look retarded
>mfw I had less trouble with her than Patch on my first try
Those timestops really made it a cakewalk.
>a story should either be amazing or not exist at all.
Best ZUN CD right here.
I played it without knowing anything and basically just learned what all the attacks mean and finished the normal and expansion pack game. Eventually you start recognizing symbols like Fire, Ice, "Small Damage", STR buff, etc...
Mokou pls go
I was going to make fun of you for posting one of the worst final boss themes, but then I saw that it was the R53M version and that's perfectly fine.
>Vampire wants to take over Gensokyo
>Ghost wants to eat cherry blossoms, so she steals the spring
>There's some weird shit going on with the moon, so you go and fuck the ones up who messed with it
>There's flowers everywhere
>There's a new goddess in town
>There's a radioactive retard fucking shit up
>There's a bunch of UFOs
>There's ghosts and shit
>a cunt everyone hates manipulates a tiny retard into doing something dumb
I can't help but recommend Darius Gaiden, since that's the game that got me into shmups - hard but with a lot of style and easy to get in to. It's not bullet hell and that means it's a good place to get used to the genre. And ZUN took his name from the game's/Taito music band, ZUNTATA, and for good reason:
Well damn, looks like I can just slooooowly move to the left to avoid the blue books' pattern.
Thanks for the tip, I should've thought of checking Youtube earlier.
I can still go fuck myself for the green ones though.
Is there any game with a story that can't be summed up like that ?
You could make any story sound like shit by simplifying down that far.
>Space Flea wants to eat the world
>Alien wants to poison planet
>Giant Computer wants to fuck with people
>Space Fetus wants to take over the world
This is LITERALLY OBJECTIVELY the best Touhou song. Honorable mentions to Broken Moon, Phantom Ensemble, and Septette, though.
Oh, I meant the whole cd, not just the first song.
The song you just linked is actually one of my favorites
This song is also pretty great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZCGQpy4FU
Fun fact, this is actually a remix of a song that ZUN made for an obscure game called Torte Le Magic, a fan shmup of an obscure manga called 10 Carat Torte!
just for you, have some kaguya in a lewd outfit.
I'm not sure, still haven't confessed to her...
My poor heart can't take this anon, spoiler that next time
If you don't confess to her soon, anon, I might beat you to the punch.
Try to alternate the directions that you dodge in. If you dodged left first, try to make the second dodge to the right. This will allow you to stay centered on your target more for more damage (Even characters with homing shots do the most damage when their shots are centered) and will reduce the chances of you running into the edge of the screen.
Still mad that bitch got it, at least I'll get to beat her up every day.
How can you love her, she dosn't have a hat.
But she can wear a hat if she wanted...
