>tfw can't like lizard/beast races anymore without being called a furry
All the other common races just seem so boring.
idk man, past games at least tried to make them unique with them unable to wear all armor pieces designed for humans
In my entire playthough of Oblivion and Skyrim I never fapped to the Argonians or Khajit. I jerked it many times to Scalons and Daedroths however
Tauren and Tauren only though, Worgen and Pandaren try too hard to be furbait.
I liked how dungeons and dragons handled their beast/monstrous races for the most part. Know furries tend to dislike them as well because they tend to have that more "serious" look I guess. Alot better then that goofy-looking disney-eque characters furries tend to go for.
I miss when Final Fantasy had good beast races. I was hoping the new race in FF XIV was going to be a thing but oh hey.... They're humans with a few scales on their faces, horns, and a tail. I might as well stick with my miqo'te.
Remember the Burmecians/Cleyrans? They were pretty cool. Ronsos not so much because Kimahri was a bitch, but it was still something.
Charr concepts looked pretty good, never played the game though, don't like MMOs.
Them tauren ladies.
D&D beast races are good because they're an attempt to have something cool and unique added to the world that isn't a human or an elf or whatever. Beast races taken out of that context rarely works. Can you imagine a realistic Starfox, all serious and grim dark?
Everquest was extremely good along the same lines of DnD-style beast races as well.
It would be now because there aren't any beast races that aren't crazy primal worshipping tribals.
There just aren't any civilized beast races to begin with in that game. Hence, part of the problem.
I'd love a Red XIII/Sif-style race where you could get away with no human features at all. Even realistic humanoid animals are still humanoid which is waaaay overdone. People imagine crazy detailed worlds, but can't picture anything other than bipedal lifeforms.
None, to my knowledge, are bold enough to allow them to have any significant gameplay differences or take advantage of their sexy tails.
Beast races unfortunately serve as nothing but furbait for the most part.
Yeah, but a big part of the reason the beast races are uncivilised is because social attitudes towards them are extremely negative and so they're constantly pitted against the enlightened races. If you suddenly had say an Owl beastrace walking around all of the cities and being totally integrated with the rest of society then it kinda makes the whole racism against beastmen angle that is a core facet of the setting utterly collapse.
You have some occasional exceptions in certain individuals and Goblins by not waging war constantly are generally treated better relatively, but the reality of how it has to be is that either they're all ok or none of them are.
Form dictates function, anon. A quadraped race wouldn't be able to manipulate tools which is the first step to being an intelligent, civilized race.
Unless you want to give them psychic abilities or some shit.
I'm sure devs could think of something. Being bipedal/having a two arms/two legs upright setup isn't the only way to be able to manipulate tools. Even something unconventional like a spider that uses front feelers or something with a long, controllable tail/tongue.
Charr used to be cool, but then neo-Arenanet happened.
>You have Goblin traders in the cities fine.
Yeah, Goblins are the most accepted race. And even then they're only allowed to visit as merchants and are still distrusted by the majority of the population.
>And Slyph are seen as nice.
No, the Sylphs are seen as non-aggressive which is very different. Of course you have splinter groups like the little Solace tribe which some people such as the Scions get along with but for the most part Sylphs are seen as dangerous and kill people on sight, they just keep to themselves and only retaliate rather than initiate.
>Hell, ain't the new Dragon people technically a beats race?
The Au Ra potentially have slightly iffy social connotations due to them having partial dragon ancestry, I would imagine Ishgard aren't huge fans of them for that reason. However they aren't a beast race and are generally accepted by the other enlightened races of Eorzea.
Why does /v/ like the cutest, smartest and all around best beast race so much?
It makes you specialise your character which doesn't happen anymore for some reason, but it'd be great to have an unconventional character like two legs/no arms that's strongly in touch with magic. No choice for physical classes but great for magic/range. Limited clawing with feet or a bite or something like that in a pinch. I don't know, most games these days let you do what you want with any character so it wouldn't happen.
I like how tauren look like.
They feel like a total bro race. would hang out with them if they were real.
Also qt cowgrirls.
I like more how male models are looking, it is just feels like something is wrong with female ones. I can't say what exactly though.
>two legs/no arms
Feels Starveil man
Bloody Roar is an example of a game that has some cool beast people, with some obvious shitty fanservice-y characters like the hybrid human/tiger chick and the bat. Then there's rad shit like Stun who's just a hulked out beetle.
Oddworld got you covered. Vykkers, Glukkons, they're all interesting. Glukkons have both arms and legs, but their reliance on technology and industry made them lazy, and their legs eventually evolved to shrivel since they didn't go outside. They wear huge suits that cover their shoulders to the ground, and under that they walk on their hands. With legs they'd be 15-20 feet tall, even just walking on their hands they're 8 feet-ish.
like this one tauren?
>humans with animal heads
>no thought or logic whatsoever put into the design
About a hundred times less retarded than human feet.
>Party composed of a lizardman rogue, a minotaur warrior, an insect mage, and a smug ass rat.
I just need a guide to make a perfect build for two minotaurs, human and lizardman.
Can't start because I need the team to be ideal in terms of stats. I guess this is some autist trait.
>All of these beast races everywhere
>Clear divides between humans and the others, all humans are mostly high class
>Villages and towns dedicated to these races
>You only get one in your party
>Game barely focuses on the tension between the races despite the plot being filled with politics
I'm working on a monster girl game of the same vein as CoC just not fucking awful like CoC. Can any anons tell me what they like about their favorite monster girls (aspects, small details, ect.)?
Any information at all will be kept in mind while developing them.
They don't know whether to make the wings arms or use arms and wings, and if the former how to make them work as arms, especially if weapons in the game are generally made for human scaled hands
Those are the uncorrupted arakkoa, the corrupted ones dont have wings
Think it's always said that Metzen likes his orcs
Are there any games with sheep people as playable?
I haven't seen it but how can it be considered furbait? Do you assume that everything is someone's fetish?
This scene probably just helps your immersion into the world of the game where not only humans live and give birth.
Still in alpha, but preparing to head into beta I think.
He's basically gutted and reworked the engine to optimize it last I heard. He was also starting to work on adding the other races.
It's hard because isn't alpha the stage where you're still adding features?
Everything needs to be about human drama
Daggerfall did Khajiit best.
I fucking love Cat-Elves
Does it count as furbait if none of the tauren fursonas actually use canonically looking taurens?
I mean I've never seen a furry actually like or use actual Warcraft taurens as their character
>A game set in FUCKING IVALICE
>Almost all of the party are Humes
>The Nu Mou are almost entirely absent from the game and the only ones that appear have the exact same face and look like the Mystics from The Dark Crystal
You better believe I fucking mad.
Would it have killed them to give us a Moogle party member at least?
>You will never animate flowing reptile tail animations for vidya
My dick couldn't handle it.
if a game has animal races, they all look cute, or otherwise have their animal side heavily subdued
>search for Lizardman on Paheal
>95% of the results is just him banging Ivy from behind
>Pick a race
>Human with rabbit ears
This thread is relevant to my interests since I'm working on some beast races for a personal project of mine, and I want some feedback in fact.
How would you classify a good beast race?
This thread has actually made me rethink some design concepts. I really like some of the FFTA people mentioned. I kinda wanna have that level of creativity in the designs for some of the races.
Anyway, yeah, what's a good race, and what's a bad race? In terms of design.
I've got some ideas, but I'll post what I've worked on.
Some of the must be races are:
-Bird People similar to Harpies
-Merpeople that aren't mermaids (tails)
-Ape-people, these would be the most human
-Moth-like Elf fairies
Everything else is up in the air as for what else could be added.
I kinda wanna have Kitsune, and I was thinking of a slug-like race that was fat and pudgy, but also kinda like the Majin in DB.
I was also thinking of 4 armed demons, kinda like the Islam Ifrit, but with Horns and red skin
Dragonfolk too, scaly reptiles that breathe fire
Anyway, I'll just post art and see what /v/ says. What they like, what they don't etc...
Seeqs are alright when they're not going for a realistic look.
>fantasy has fantasy characteristics in it
>bulky race gets strength boost
>tiny race gets intelligence boost
>asian race gets kungfu boost
>normal human gets no boost
Good best race is one that actually resembles the beast and not just has random features of it. Like the anon said this design is just monster girl, nothing wrong with that though if that's what you're going for
Well, I wanna make a race of bird people.
Like Tengu/Garuda/Harpies, both genders.
I'm still playing around with what works and what doesn't.
Charr were pretty baller, shame they were attached to a shit game. I'd play the fuck out of a Guild Wars RPG.
Tauren and Worgen males are also good but the females are fucked beyond recognition.
I don't like anything there, really. Those are just monstergirls.
Well gee, if they're going to be bird people how about a beak for starters.
>Moth-like Elf fairies
Why not go full moth?
>-Bird People similar to Harpies
You have to becide between Arms and Wings, Armwings or Wings and no arms
>-Merpeople that aren't mermaids (tails)
>-Ape-people, these would be the most human
>-Moth-like Elf fairies
I liked the berserk ones a lot
So would you say that perhaps they look too human?
I think that in this particular race, I kinda want a more human look.
But now that I stop to think, a lot look very human, and not enough creature-like, which is what I really liked about those FFTA races.
I don't know too much about design, but off the top of my head.
1. They should have clear ties to the world and its history. Go a little easy on the quantity and flesh them out.
2. Try not to fall too far into making them exactly like humans in ideology or physiology.
3. Design links/conflicts between them, hatred or racism...maybe an old grudge due to some long past events.
4. They need to have some traits, physical and mental/cultural that prevent a human of x ethnicity for just taking their spot.
>Tfw all we got was was Fran.
I distinctly remember a sidequest in 12 where a Seeq woman hits on you, but now I think I imagined it...can anyone confirm or deny?
Well, if your aim is to make your races ATTRACTIVE in a human way, then its fine.
Try to avoid this, for starters.
It depends on what you're going for. In general though, I would try to veer away from very human designs unless there is a good reason, like say....a god designing everything, or maybe a race being born from a curse when they were originally human...or some such.
>So would you say that perhaps they look too human?
Pretty much, if you want a bird race you need to include all the main features of birds. Not just wings but also feathers, beaks and shit.
But if you want to go for more humanoid harpies your design isn't bad. There's always problem with races looking too similar to ones from different franchises thpigh, so if you went with all the shit I said without being too creative it'd probably look like this. >>291401361
So just go for what you think looks best. Though the mermaid people are a bit retarded because it'd bee to hard to move with their feet thingys on land. Unless you want their lore to be that they barely move inland
> I like thick ladies
>Bulky race has tiny, slim female gender.
>no option to making them thicker/fatter/bulkier
>tfw no birds despite the variety of designs that could be used
I'd say that some will be attractive in some way, but I also wanna add a nice deal of variety in making others much less so.
This is good advice, thanks.
I think my biggest problem right now is number 1, I have wayyyy too many, and I'm designing too many ideas. I've got like a list of 20, and have drawn like half, but I'm still not entirely sure what to use.
2. Yeah, this is why I took interest in this thread. I think some will be human-like, like the Kitsune for example which make sense to be attractive and human-like, but I think that having some variety in the other races will make the more human-like stand out more.
I was also thinking of extending the features of humans to include different shades of skin, horns, elf ear and such that way the straight up, elves dwarves, and giants from typical lore are essentially human thus giving me more variety in design for the humans, and more freedom in other races since I kinda fill that urge to include "the elf" and "the dwarf"
3 and 4 are covered, it's for a comic, so I think the deciding factor in which races to include will be determined by their relevance to the story. The biggest and most important part in all that will be this.
Which in turn makes the bird race, and the moth-fairies the most important thus far.
Holy shit, this asshole has had it coming since his debut, yet each expansion is him fucking shit up in more ridiculous ways.
And I thought Squares wank-fest with Lightning was bad.
This is what I'm doing as I write the story. However, I've learned that worldbuilding is very incomplete with a half-finished story.
But yeah, nowhere near done, I just sketch, jot down ideas as they come.
it looks like people who evolved for the life underwater, which is cool, has the standard human physique but is kinda varied
i'd change something about their abdominal and chest area since it just looks like they got their arms changed
Am I the only one who feels that its kinda...bleh, that the more interesting beasts races tend to get the shit roles in such rpgs instead of the bland humans?
Seriously that mother fucker isn't even relevant to the story.
>being this smug and self assured over Betheshit
That sounds interesting, birds and insects are very rarely used. There's a lot that can be done with them design wise, to make them interesting.
> Though the mermaid people are a bit retarded because it'd bee to hard to move with their feet thingys on land. Unless you want their lore to be that they barely move inland
Honest that was one of the things I was debating in terms of design. I wasn't entirely sure what to do just yet.
Only thing that's certain as of now, is that all of the races derrive from the 5 elements:
With some being more creature-like, and others more humanoid. I try to derive from actual folk-lore and such, but I also don't wanna do the typical. It's a paradox I guess. Still figuring things out.
With the merpeople it's kinda hard, since I find some of the best concept (though the designs are meh) with that is in One Piece.
I hate it really. I don't even care if it makes other characters racist against the non humans if your main guy is one, it might actually make it more interesting that way unless they just resolve it all within the first hour, or make it come off way too obviously like a reference to human racism.
Nobody has to find out I like them.
>no cold-blooded scalie race that get extremely uncomfortable in cold weather and seek the body-heat of mammals in order to keep warm while trying to maintain an air of indignation
Merpeople are cool, though I find it disappointing they aren't used often, and too often are based off of sea-elves or mermaids. The deep is pretty scary, and most of the time nobody seems to play up the scary and unknown part of it.
>females don't have boobs
FUCK LOGIC, I WANT MY GODDAMN BREASTS.
That's the joke, any art of anthropomorphic animal characters is automatically gay furries.
All the good series with anthros have died off.
Even Dragon Quest kinda died off and that was super popular in Japan.
And an alien.
Oh, this is great. I was actually thinking what sort of clothing an underwater race would wear. Since most of it would actually impede movement.
I mean, outside of shell armor and such for the warrior classes. What about the civilians and the like.
This kinda starts to give me some ideas.
Everything that was in wow has some form in 1 2 or 3
I wish the Ronso got expanded upon. They were relatively sparely done compared to other races in FF titles.
Not everything. Bird people, tiger people. insect people and a bunch more that I can't remember weren't in warcraft.
Is someone ever going to make an RPG or what have you where you play as insectoids, snakes or birds? The insects could have great bonuses in wielding many weapons at once with all their limbs, you could have armored snakes and shit. Birds could be like the assassin class that soars down and take people out when they don't expect it.
I'm out of birds so now for the inherently superior animal, Sharks.
Well 8 had Moombas and those yellow alien like dudes.
I dont think it would be possible to think of humans as a design without a basis to go off of.
Well, I guess its not technically impossible, but it would be likely. They certainly wouldnt be a thing at least, just a one-off design that happens to match how we look.
Depends on how long you live for.
If you manage to live another 60 years you might see one such game.
Ventuswill was like this during Winter.
They're not here.
Being a furfag is a post-ironic meme.
>no hive insect race composed almost entirely of females that fetishizes the males of other species since they see males as being a luxury usually reserved for royalty
Well they are only anthropomorphic lions with a horn on their head. Nothing too obscure.
Because you are a low self-esteem beta and a failure of a human being.
People would hate you for being able to fly.
Do /v/ like their dragons with big hips, or not?
I dunno if I speak for /v/ but I know I do
You cant fool me. Thats a girl dragon.
>not being bi-sexual master race
Any upcoming games that have some beast races?
Rune Factory 4, even though you can't marry, you are assured hitting that dragon cloca
>realistic stories with human characters.
That's boring as shit. Give me aliens, robots, furries - bloody anything at this point.
Im assuming Skylanders will have more games.
>played FFTA2 before XII
>Thought Seeqs were pigshark dudes and considered them the most baller of all races
>see one for the first time in XII
I still use them in FFTA2 though. Lanista/Berserker best combo, Paravirs get fucked
I don't think so. Curved backs are standard for humanoid races (if you have a perfectly straight back, you're fucked up).
Huge tails like that should be extensions of the body, instead of just tacked on like a lot of artwork portrays them to be. We're talking about a limb thicker and heavier than anything else on the body; it needs support.
This also means that for races with big tails like that, their legs would be pushed out to the side to accommodate it. And THAT is why all reptilian races (should) have wonderful hips.
I don't, but I always thought it was neat design.
