Night is falling where I am, time for the spooky vidya thread.
Keep it fucking video games niggers
There was this bug back in Halo 2 that caused aggressive playermodels with absurd accuracy to spawn during system link matches very rarely
We still don't know why
P.T. was spooky because of its attention to detail
Take for example, the radio. And I don't mean
DONT TOUCH THAT DIAL NOW WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED
Early on, it says the father was found listening to his radio
Once shit gets creepy it changes to say he hung himself with a garden house
In the part with the hanging fridge, it echoes. Normally you would be paying attention to the fridge, so you might not notice. But this time, the echo can be faintly heard to say he hung himself with an
umbilical cordinstead of with a garden hose.
Has there ever actually been a scary vampire game?
I remember back in Halo 3, there would sometimes be random pink 'ghost' players that would sit in spawn and disappear or walk a little until they collided into a wall and disappeared
I wish bungie.net still had my halo 3 replays, because I caught one in a match of duckhunt years ago and it spooked the fuck outta me
That's why you always check the filetype before opening, also be cautious ofvirus spreading images,
such as mine
Not to my knowledge. It supposedly was present in 3, too, but due to the Theater mode it would have been much easier to fake. 2 had no such thing and these reports came in before the Vista release, meaning it would have been nearly impossible to fake without modding, which was rare anyway.

Yes. At least when it wants to.
>They're traditionally a more "romantic" idea of a monster.
Are you only familiar with Anne Rice and Twilight you fucking twink?
>mfw I'm too spooked to open any of the spoiler images
most people are pussies now anon, be carefull, if your game is too scary, well i'm sure kotaku and ign will love to write about it A LOT, but few people will actually buy it
people started spreading rumors about opening this image causes a virus to spread on your PC.
thing you can't post images with files inside them, so dumbasses still fall for that, thinking it's true.
Supposedly it gives you a virus upload clicking on it that activates screamers at totally random intervals, but I can confirm it's not true.
It's the modern version of the "fingerbox"
I still don't get what the fuck the artist was thinking when he drew this.
Doesn't help that you literally have to run towards the sound of the chainsaw to get out of that area
I started playing the first Fatal Frame today.
The dub is hilariously stiff. But I'm loving it. Control Type B is the best, especially since the down button is an immediate 180º directional change. Also I'm pretty terrible to get those fast ghosts.
I knew what he meant faggotron, he's still wrong, vampires were depicted as vile abominations for as long as anybody could remember until around the time of Bela Lugosi. Even in the original Dracula by Bram Stoker there is nothing actually attractive, alluring or 'romantic' about him, he's boldfaced described as ugly to look at, smells bad, literally equated to a predator and a rapist who makes good Victorian girls go bad against their will. Vampires in older folklore ranged everywhere from basically zombies to ghost like creatures.
But Anon, a jumpscare can provide a shock of emotional release after enough buildup. If it's all tension and no climax then you just finish the game feeling blue balled.
I'm the same guy who was talking about the radio and I need to add, on the early passes the reporter mentions that the father had been heard saying random number strings loudly. Later (once spooks have begun) after the player has almost forgotten about that, the reporter will suddenly break out and loudly say a six number string. It's the little things that really help to build it.
>a more "romantic" idea of a monster.
>is just a maniac that can be killed like any other human
Fuck this. I want shit i have no power against.
Cry of Fear, you should also check out Afraid of Monsters, made by the same people
pic related, its an enemy from AoM
>tfw the best vamps is the tzimisce
>30 days of night has scarier vampires.
>lets make buff zombies and call them vampires
AoM:Director's Cut > the old 2005 release
This is usually the creepiest shit
Stuff that you can't possibly explain or reason about is just nopenopenope tier
Its like that pasta with a fucking lot of things about accidents, shit, that is not spooky, just sad and tragic
Oh okay, sorry. Text communication sometimes fucks up the message if you're not very cautious. A "yeah/i know right," helps. Else someone may look at it (like me) and think it's a confrontation between facts and opinions.
Dracula is portrayed as a parasite, and in Nosferatu you can clearly see made to resemble vermin. I mean I guess you can say he's 'romantic' in scene when he relates his great past victories to Harker and starts ranting about his glorious bloodline but none of that endears him to the audience, at most it's to show how arrogant he still is even centuries later.
>lets make buff zombies and call them vampires
Not the movies anon, read the comics. They have that predator vibe to them.
Even when the protagonists later on become the guardians of the town they still appearmenacing.
>Artist: How do I make anime girl embarrassed in front of everyone while looking hot?
>Penis: Let me handle it dude
>Artist: Wait a minute, this doesn't makes any fucking sense
>Penis: But look at her cameltoe bro
>Artist: Yeah but-
>Penis: DUDE HER TITS
there was great threads about his on /x/ a while ago.
After a while the dude started adding fake stuff in his videos though, which is kind of lame.
i cant handle that
silent hills is canceled ;_;
I believe I saw it once
Not that spooky, its just a jumpscare
It has a focal point that you keep looking at and then a spooky face begins to appear until it jumps out in your face afaik
You should include a part near the middle of the game where the player feels really safe, like all the lights are on and shit, then suddenly everything starts going to shit, and within a minute it's like the climax of the scary shit in the whole game.
Reposting: Conciousness is a funny thing, anons.
Oh, I hate the movie. I need to read again the comics
Full game, patch up to date and with some extras
>tfw this "Silent hill" was terminated
Im pretty happy about it
It's not spooky amigo, it's just some idiots posting pictures of Google images of fingers inside wooden boxes and circlejerking about it and once someone asks what it is that all quote him and call him a newfag.
Literally the same concept with the donut gook except with a fake virus twist.
Why is fucking Godzilla in the Warren's museum holy shit
>I'm pretty happy about it
Man, barring the fact that it was called silent hills, what's your problem?
P.t. And it's teaser trailer were promising, if the names involved with the project weren't enough.
Last night I booted up Silent Hill 2 on my emulator and looked away for a bit, not wearing my headphones. When I looked back, the title screen had changed to some woman talking and was covered in 1s and 0s. I about flipped shit and hit ESC to close the emulator. Later I would find that that wasn't supposed to scare me and the 1s and 0s were a bug in the emulator that could only be resolved by running in software mode.
Tl;dr, make things happen Psycho Mantis style, where the game seems to be buggy or have glitches that are actually part of the game. A false blue screen would be particularly powerful.
I immediately thought this. After discovering loli, I just can't be scared by those children.
Like, I finished fear recently, and all that I wanted was to see Alma close to see how hot she was. Then I played fear 2 and I needed to fap. I'm still fapping about it.
Silent hill was dead since 4 (and even 4 was mediocre) I hate the fact they wanted to ride on the name of the branch and in big names to try to sell that shit, plus I want Konami to burn since years ago, Im quite happy they are getting fuck
So I'm playing Resident Evil for the first time - the remake of the remake, I guess - and I really don't understand why I'm so scared. It's relatively easy to just walk around zombies, and even the fast fuckers can mostly be avoided, and failing that I've got a shotgun with a ton of ammo. But for some reason just walking about this shithole mansion is terrifying, every time the camera angle shifts I'm expecting something terrible, and I actually had to stop playing to calm down a little when I properly left the mansion for the first time. How is this shit so scary when the opening was b-movie tier cheese?
That's nothing like fingerboxes, since the claim that the image gives you a jump scare virus is almost always explained.
With fignerboxes everyone acts in a circlejerk over their fingerbox, using vague terms to describe what you get out of putting you finger the box, while laughing at people who ask what a fingerbox is.
Completely different concept.
>Silent Hill 2 on emulator
why emulate, when SH2 and 3 have great PC ports, that much lower system reqs than the PS2 emus, and can be easily ran at UHD resolutions these days?
Because REmake was the pinnacle of the series, and Capcom back then knew how to create ATMOSPHERE.
Bro, who fucking cares about that agenda? You rather miss out on a decent game cause you think it's a marketing ploy to keep a company afloat? A company, mind you, that's doing just fine in every other venture it has.
Fuck you, you're a dumb faggot.
>Mainly because I didn't know PC version existed
What the fuck?? People have been mentioning them in every single SH / Horror thread in the past X years. We've had borderline daily ones in recent weeks even!
Anyway, here's the useful SH PC Guide, that helps you set up the PC ports. SH2 requires the little fix, sh2proxy, to run smoothly on modern machines. 3 and 4 only have instructions for their widescreen hacks.
honest question... Did anyone ever figure out what the fuck was this all about?
>Raiden, something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go - I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly... suddenly there was intense light all around me - and when I came to, I was home. What do you think happened to me?
it always kind of spooked me for some reason
I remember a short flash game where you're a prisoner (or so it is implied) running away from guards with flashlights that track you down and shit. It takes place during the night on a snowy plain.
It's not that scary. Not until
you get caught and realize what's really chasing you. The moment of panic after the things finally catch up to you and you're caught off guard is pretty cool.
And also, its not about whether dracula is a romance or not
I am just trying to educate you sorry ass who think a romance is a fucking love story
I DONT SEE ANY FUCKING SPOOKS
STOP DISCUSSING ABOUT FUCKING DRACULA
STOP DISCUSSING ABOUT FUCKING SILENT HILLS, NO ONE GIVES A FUCK TO A DEAD SERIES AND ITS NOT SPOOKY
STOP DISCUSSING ABOUT FUCKING GAMES NO ONE PLAYED
POST FUCKING SPOOKS
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
IS IT TO ASK TOO MUCH?
Fuck that shit, japanese ghosts trigger me so hard
Just please tell me you've played Silent Hill 1 before trying the rest of them? Best game, kinda big deal plot-wise, etc.
wow, calm your tits son.
that is gothic horror anon
thematically REmake is B american horror movie with monsters and zombies.
but the biggest monster in the game is the mansion, wich is a lot like a place of evil, if umbrella had never put zombies in there, I'm sure that scary stuff will happen inside it anyway.
I'm still baffled as to how people found this scary in any way, shape, or form.
It was cliche after cliche and horror trope after trope in a constant, ostentatious grab at trying to be spooky.
>inb4 Wow such a badass
Not at all. I cannot handle any kind of screamers or stuff in vidya.
>descending into madness
>a seemingly personal vendetta from the evil forces
>themes of sexuality and morality
So it wasn't in third person, nor was there any fog, but that was literally the first taste we had of it.
And true, an original name would've been nicer, hell, p.t. was pretty successful before people found out, although it was free on a console that didn't have much to offer.
But just cause it had a similar title you want a project with high potential to be good, die? That's absurd.
Ghosts aren't real Aliens exist but we probably will never live to see them When you die nothing happens. It's like losing consciousness
Fuck you and people like you. So what if it's a trope? It has to be original to be good? A trope can't be done so nicely it becomes actually effective? Fuck you, go complain about saving a woman in distress.
I wish I was so young and retarded that RE still scared me. Older Resident Evil is essentially a goldmine of unintentional comedy (1-3, applicable to newer releases but for different reasons), and that applies to the REmake as well.
It's already been made clear several fucking times nobody is equating romance with love story, but go ahead, tell us, what's so 'romantic' about 'traditional' vampires to the point where you made the baseless statement that nothing about them could be frightening.
Recommended to listen alone in the dark
Stop pretending to know what happens when you die
I know that feel bro. I've always had a thing for girls with long dark hair and pale skin. I'm the biggest pussy I know , I get scared just walking around my house sometimes, but Japanese ghost girl movies have never been able to spook me, I think the girls are too cute.
The ghosts from Dear Esther were pretty spooky, especially since I wasn't expecting to see one of them at all. I wasn't sure if my mind was playing tricks on me
That's true but Anne Rice is what made it the popular depiction though. Well I guess Lugosi and Christopher Lee as Dracula is where it really started if you want to get technical but at least there the vampires were evil and not moody brooding 'woe is me' metrosexuals.
I know it isn't a horror game per se, but I love bloodborne's atmosphere and themes. One of those few moments where you can fight back the fear and still feel the tension.
>left one has a bad eye
>probably a witch
>creepiest moment in that trailer
doesn't appear in-game
We are all humans in the end, no matter the culture. I'm not that guy but while i don't believe in ghosts in the common sense of the thing, i believe reincarnation may be a true thing. Imagine, if time goes on long enough, there will be a time and place where your particles will just rearrange in the same form again. It's mathematically certain.
I would say a protagonist with a motivation players could relate to, basically the same idea as the main characters in Silent Hill 1-4. The character ends up in a spooky situation but he needs to have some kind of goal or motivation to pull through
ghosts are real we'll probably see aliens in our lifetime When you die you get reincarnated
>Do I have to play SH1 before getting into 2?
Highly, very much recommended.
Someone will always say shit like "SH2 has nuffing to do with the rest of them!", which just means they don't have a clue about the series plot and lore.
I'd say that SH2 feels much more like an expansion to SH1, and thus "works" and feels better after finishing the original. I've seen plenty of people get bored of the #2's beginning, which I can as an old fan understand; SH1 would sort of give more "context" to the sequel, allowing you to anticipate shit to hit the fan any moment, and thus makes it easier to sit through the less impressive scenes at the start.
All in all, SH1 offers the superior introduction to the series.
Unless you're a heavy graphics-whore who can't deal with PS1 visuals.
Spooky music in video games?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTWWCpGpkoo < This one will be recognized a lot because its sampled from a popular tune
Some good ones
Fuck man I can't listen to this for more than half a minute
I really don't know where it came from, a lot of movies/video games use it. Really odd sounding. The HL2 version of it is definitely the scariest though.
Afraid of Monsters
See, that's also something that confused me.
It had fantastic atmosphere oozing from every crack and crevice, but the mansion just throws it all out the window to try and get some cheep scares.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just too jaded at this point, wouldn't be the first thing it's fucked me over about.
Not him, but I'll just drop this.
I'd like to call it action-horror.
It reminded me going through DMC 1 as a kid.
Not necessarily scary, but always had me on the edge until the end. And shit hits the fan.
In a good way.
>Even creepier is the fact that a 14 year old came up with that monster.
I was 10 or 11 by the time I player the original Silent Hill, and I had already played first 2 Resident Evils as well, and just about all my game ideas and drawings were somewhat equally twisted stuff for a while back then.
pretty sure the game was called hide. you had to examine 5 different points in a big snow filled level, and each time you find a new location the security ramps up. tense as fuck.
Jesus Christ these things terrify me more then they should. did it ever get explained what they are?
Also anybody have any creepy game experiences or urban legend creepypasta to share? Haunted objects/games are my horror fetish.
>Dad was such a drag.
(the dad) = konami
>Every day he’d eat the same kind of food, dress the same, sit in front of the same kind of games…yeah, he was just that kind of guy.
konami rehashing their ips
>But one day, he goes and kills us all.
konami killing metal gear and silent hill, and firing kojima
>He couldn’t even be original about the way he did it.
konami saying that they’ll make ANOTHER metal gear without kojima and more silent hill games
>I’m not complaining…I was dying of boredom anyway.
kojima being happy that he got fired because he was sick of shitting out new metal gears per konamis request
>But guess what? I will be coming back…
= kojima and del toro continuing the game as an entirely new ip
>…and I’m bringing my new toys with me.
ps4 technology (project morpheus, speaker on controller, etc.)
Don't touch that dial now, we're just getting started.
Give me a screenshot and I will literally give you some of the best horror details you will ever get.
Just remember, you never know who you are talking to on /v/, could be someone who knows their shit.
You can see them at several points, like if you try to peek at the top of the lighthouse one of them may peek back at you. One of them may also popup high from the cliffs above the beach and watch you climb to him, but once you get there he'll be gone
I hate it when it beats you over the head with "hey look this his horror see this is horror am I scary now"
DONT PLAY PAST NORMAL.
Its an amazing mod with horrible dialog/writing and extremely horrible difficulty balance.
Hard+ is just not fun at all, its not challenging, its broken.
I really want a vampire hunting game, like an RPG or a third person action game or something, where you can use all the tricks and tools of the the trade but need to be careful about all the tricky shit vampires can do to you too like turn into mist and slip through a broken window or send animals to distract you while they move into kill you.
