hoes be hoes no matter where you goes
I graduated from a university, and while I'm not making 6 figures I already enjoy my work, like that I got my job instantly, like my boss, and am able to live while paying off student loans regardless as to whether I'm doing part or full time.
I've applied to Gamestop but never got a call back.
My other local game store just has people playing smash all the time. They must make little money and not need any workers.
I need a job.
They wouldn't hire me. They always decide to hire a girl (yes always a girl) each job fair that one of the current employees always knows. During the job fairs, I have to compete with around 400+ other people to try and get a job at one of the two Gamestops.
Why don't you work at a Video Game themed restaurant?
That's not what I'm working at. But I get free bread, lots of the stuff we can't sell we can take for free for our lunch and stuff (sandwiches, pâté, etc).
Can literally have a fresh baguette and foie gras for lunch and you don't even have to pay for it if you're lucky. (Bread is always free for lunch though, and you can bring some home after your shift)
Grocery store bakeries are pretty much the only bakeries here in the midwest. I don't know where you're from, but it would be hard for someone to make a living as a baker when cheap and plentiful sliced bread exists, and every house has an oven to make all the pies and cakes they want.
i know a lot of dumb friends who worked in an eb games. they had some funny stories
>some really fat xbox hueg autist strolls in the store
>it's a weekday and around noon
>doesn't really talk but just touches everything
>finally he strolls up to the counter and asks about amiibos or something (i can't remember, it was a long time ago.)
>my friend was working the cash and kinda made conversation to be nice.
>after that the autist would hang around the store til it closed, only leaving for short periods of time which we assume were to get food or pass a bowel movements.
there was some more to it that made me laugh really hard when i first heard it, but i can't ask to hear it from my friend again cause i keked the shit out of him.
Worked in GameStop for a while. Got offered an assistant manager position. I quit soon after.
The amount of autism I dealt with on a daily basis is something no human should ever have to experience. I am surprised I even still like vidya.
Don't ever work at a game store if you legitimately enjoy vidya as a hobby.
Also for Christ sake you fucking autismos, your local GameStop employee that you're "friends with" doesn't actually value the 30 minute dissertation you give him on whatever autism you indulge in every time you see him.
i dunno. i thought it was kinda funny how he even got such a shitty job in the first place and there was that autist running around. could you imagine the smell? it brings a smile to my face.
My local GameStop pays minimum wage, probably because so many kids apply there thinking it will be some really cool and fun job. Meanwhile, I make more money pushing carts, and my interaction with idiotic 'guests' is kept to a minimum.
That place is shit. Youtube playlists of terrible chiptunes remixes played at max volume so it's impossible to have a decent conversation, a passable menu with a "Us Gamers, eh?" surcharge, cocktails that start at $8. A rewards program where the system has been down almost every time I've been there.
it's kind of funny that you should say that. i still play some mmos with a group of friends that includes that guy and they all make fun of him for getting keked. it's hilarious.
this was in canada. we don't have ganestop.>>315249358
You know some of us don't come to /v/ every day, or every week, or every month, or even every year, right? Like you're aware some people leave for certain periods of their life and then come back, and then leave, and come back again?
I started regularly posting on /v/ back in 2007 and have missed a lotta different shit over the years, but the fact that remains is this: I like to fap to some good as sexy homemade quality fuck videos. So why don't you stop being a contrarian piece of guttertrash and source us so we can get our jollies you meme loving fuck.
I'm a filthy NEET living with my parents again, having only ever worked in tech of some kind
should I look for a job at a gamestop? I can probably spaghetti with the best of them so I may resonate with the virgin autists who come in and create a cascading criticality event, but I mean I like vidya and I might meet some passably hot gamer gurl I can creep out by trying to befriend
because I work at walmart
For the life of me I don't get how people at my job manage to live on about 900~ a month
>your local GameStop employee that you're "friends with" doesn't actually value the 30 minute dissertation you give him on whatever autism you indulge in every time you see him.
People actually do that? I just buy my stuff and go when I go shopping.
It is pretty much just talking to dudebros about the new call of duty or madden, and the occasion autist comes in for Souls/Monster Hunter/KH/FF/SMT whatever else. Those occasional customers are cool, the rest is awful.
>Started work at GameStop 2 weeks ago on Wednesday since its a seasonal job
>Trained to do supplies and stocking
>Went through fine that day
>Said they will call me when they need me
>Hasn't gotten a call yet
I guess when it gets closer to the end of November is where they will need me.
>100 on garbage.
Yeah quite frankly that's the part that gets me because I leech on my parents while maintaining the job and only using/having 100 on my own garbage would drive me up a fucking wall. I need at least 300.
>a second job
downright suicide since that's the kind of pay you get with full time hours
I used to. It was hell.
Bounced between 3 stores, it's all the same. Managers dicking the girls, Sales / Upsell quotas and Beta virgins kissing the ground female staff walk on. They only kept me around to move boxes / do stocking.
Fucking Gamestop guy here, I have plenty of people who just come in and hang out. They tend to be pretty cool, most of them know us all by name and talk about things from games to just drinking and stuff.
I'm hoping thats for a family. $50 is easily enough for one person each week and sometimes yes you have to spend $100 one week cause you need a whole lot of junk but you still should only be paying around $300 a month.
you can live on $900 a month easy.
$400 rent if you don't mind living in the ghetto with roommates.
You can get about $180 in food stamps a month, so you only have to spend $120 a month on food.
That leaves $380 for miscellaneous expenses, like phone, car, internet, electricity.
Quite doable. Of course, if anything ever goes wrong you will end up in debt.
I'm surprised more people working in retail don't just drive semi-trucks for a few years, save up 50k and then just buy a cheap house.
Absolute best customers. I have like 2 neckbears and 1 weird chubby chick that buy all of that shit on the vita. I usually talk to them about zero's escape and earth defense force.
>downright suicide since that's the kind of pay you get with full time hours
If you can't get a job that pays for basic living, then you have to resort to more than one job. That's life and plenty of people in the US unfortunately have to do so in order to live, granted many people in the US also live above their means. Min. wage is still piss low either way.
You'd be better off going to work at an assembly line factory and getting paid at least $10+ with $15+ for an over-production or overtime. And depending on the factory that could be doubled or tripled.
I used to work at Wal-Mart on IMS overnight, one of the worst jobs you can possibly imagine, especially with a pill popping boss who had been working there since he was 16 and was only just a manager in some run down hick town. You don't want to be that guy Anon, get out while you can.
I don't even work at Gamestop but I listened to a sperg's complete analysis of the Halo extended universe plot and how it ties into Halo 5 because I'm a nice guy. Plus I was there buying Saint's Row 3 for my gf so she could play with one of her friends back home. True story.
Because I work in overnight security.
I get paid to browse /v/ all night while not seeing a single soul.
Depends where you live, if you live in a city, you're going to die on rent alone. If you live out in the boondocks you've got;
>$400/rent (500 left)
>$200 groceries (300 left)
>Assuming utilities $200 (100 left)
>Gas/etc. $40 (60 left)
>Put that $60 in the bank, by month two you now have $120 in the bank, so on and so forth.
Or go back to live with your parents and save money.
Shit I was about to say man, that's a ridiculous amount on groceries. I'd rather starve. Granted fucking milk is like $6 a gallon anymore or more.
I'm a Blackjack dealer at a casino and with tips I bring home at least 15/hr a week. Most per hour I've made in a good week was 70 dollars.
I live in a shitty apartment, buy from a small foodstore, work is a 10 minute drive away, and my heat/electricity is included in rent.
Are you a family of 6 or something?
I live in a dope ass house with my best friends
0 pets even thought I plan on getting a dog and I don't have weird smell requirements, besides it not smelling like shit
cry more faggot
>eveything else video games and stupid shit
I earn around 800€, get good scrubs.
Literally the best customers.
>Always knows the name of whatever they are buying
>Not some 8 year olds mother
>Never buys amiibos
>Generally preorders since they know damn well we won't have a million copies of what they want in stock
>Not some 8 year olds mother (this is very important)
Not to start console war shitposting but the stereotypical neckbeard in a trenchcoat and fedora tends to be a nintendo fanatic and are one of the most fucking annoying customers on the face of the planet
behind goddamn mothers
Literally the best and worst job all at the same time. I used to work overnight IT at some local business. They never needed help and when they did it was seriously the most basic shit. I was paid for about a year and a half to browse /v/, play Pokemon, and work on my writing. While it was great for a time, I quickly became absorbed by my own dark thoughts and when you're locked in a room for 8 hours a night with no one to talk to and sleep during normal daylight hours your mental issues only get worse.
Assuming wal-mart doesn't can you right before they have to give you insurance benefits like they do a lot of people.
Yeah rent in the US is about double to quadruple that.
Oh yeah, I forgot that I'd be a millionaire in Murrica.
Go in the kitchen and make salt-water and inhale it, it breaks away the mucus and fixes the sinuses. Also helps to git rid of toothaches from abscesses and remove stuck food particles or anything else in the mouth if you swash it around.
I live in the suburbs and a studio apartment costs around $600 a month for the shitty ones and an upwards of $800 for the good ones. 800 fucking dollars a month for a studio apartment. Which city do you live in?
We don't stock those anymore where i work. But when they did the pleb workers thought of them as cheapskates and i thought of them as smart consumers waiting until the dust has settled to buy the creme of the crop for dirt cheap, i do the same.
I would imagine most places that still sell them now though charge exorbitant prices though, so maybe not so smart in this day and age.
Yeah it was bad. Some days one guy would come in. He was maybe 24-25 still living with his mom (she always drove him up) always wearing a Loki hoodie with obnoxiously large plush horns and he would just stare at the women trying to shop. Asked him to leave on several occasions.
Another guy once leaned against the counter and tried convincing me to play final fantasy because when he asked if I liked those games a I said "no they're not really my thing man, I am more of a sci-fi guy" (bad mistake). After about 30 minutes (not exaggerating) I had to ask him to let me finish putting stickers on the new shipments just to get him to fuck off.
Personal favorite was the family that looked like the people from point lookout (two 30 year old with their mom looked inbred as fuck) brought in a chewed up ps4 with controller that looked like it went through a fucking garbage disposal and wouldn't leave because we didn't cover that damage. The fucking thing was still wet ffs
I literally could write a book of the shit that happened while I worked there.
The same people have been working there for years.
I don't think they're going to hire me.
>I would imagine most places that still sell them now though charge exorbitant prices though, so maybe not so smart in this day and age.
There's a shop near where I live where I can get good PS2 games for about £1 or £2 each.
Sometimes I'll be looking for a reaction image, see a gif I don't recognize, and post it outta curiosity.
Craigslist I shit you not.
If a security agency or whatever building is posting a job on there, then you know they're desperate.
>tfw taking candy from the worker's cubicles and raiding the fridge.
>Not to start console war shitposting but the stereotypical neckbeard in a trenchcoat and fedora tends to be a nintendo fanatic and are one of the most fucking annoying customers on the face of the planet
I think I understand why mothers would be annoying but I need stories on this.
It's actually a nice neighborhood. There was a spat of violence where a kid killed his brother, but that's not too common.
Davenport has the same prices. I won't go over to the Illinois side since Illinois is like a third world country.
Just inhaling it? Wouldn't it need to be hot? Interesting though. I've used salt-water in the past to numb a sore throat by gargling and it's very effective that way but of course that's completely different.
>I think I understand why mothers would be annoying but I need stories on this.
Because literally every transaction with them is a goddamn argument.
And thats not counting the ones who treat the store like a fucking daycare and leave their kids there for like an hour.
It would help if it's warm yes, not inherently hot. Especially if you want to get rid of stuff in the mount/teeth.
It should be fine at any temp. though really, if not, just warm it up.
not really related but when i used to work retail some black woman came up to me to ask me about cheese cutting sets. i had no idea what those were, and she told me that it was for her wine and cheese party.
>And thats not counting the ones who treat the store like a fucking daycare and leave their kids there for like an hour.
I had a co-worker who would get so mad about this and would yell at the kids to get the fuck out of the store.
Not him but you can't really sleep in case someone needs you to do something or management decides to pay you a visit or something. If you get caught your shit will promptly be fucked up.
My personal favorite
>be sitting at counter
>little kid runs in the store
>looks me in the eye
>look back curiously
>kid grab ps4 display box
>I nod no
>kid literally goes and kicks down every fucking display box and stomps them
>looks me in the eye
>kicks one more across the counter
>runs out the door
>manager comes back from lunch
>his face when
Alright, anon. Good to know. Thanks. I've gotta run to the store and get tissues, among other things, so I'll probably pick up some medicine while I'm there but this is genuinely helpful advice for the future. Thanks again, bro.
Nah. Take me, for example. I could get my own place, but it would be pretty shitty and that's not even factoring in furniture, appliances and shit I'd have to shell out for. Living in a rickety rented apartment is actually making me save money for now.
being socially awkward is absolutely no obstacle in working sales, especially retail. you quickly learn to just treat it as a job and separate the two. unless you're actually paid by commission in which case you are fucked because you need to socialize with your clients to hook them. if you're just behind a counter on hourly wage you really don't give a fuck.
No, not really.
Just the nighttime patrols that you need to do and fill out the report every hour.
It takes me about 10 minutes to do a quick patrol and do the routine paperwork.
After that it's /v/ time.
Because it SUCKED. I worked at one during college, and it was awful.
I work IT now for a law firm. It's been pretty easy work, for the most part. I spend a good chunk of my day just playing games, which the partners have no problems with: It's easier to pay me to not work and be on hand in case of issues, and they don't have to worry about an outside contractor seeing privileged documents.
>Retail was a mistake
I've worked at Wal-mart, Target, and Whole Foods and never really had an issue with any of them. Maybe I'm just lucky. I'm staying far away from gamestop and fast food though.
>mfw watching X-Files, Twin Peaks, Miami Vice, etc., all at my nightshift job
>tfw i actually work in a videogame store
>tfw i get to meet all these cool people with relevant interests
sometimes including cute girls
still have to sell minecraft to every soccer mum and
sigh as they ask how much it is as they stare DIRECTLY AT THE PRICE TAG
but besides the codkiddies and the normies it's a comfy as fuck job.
I can't remember the last time I stepped foot in a gamestop. Why would I ever bother when Walmart or even Best Buy are so close and I can get my games in such a quicker fashion without dealing with the cashiers bullshit.
I took a retail job 5 months ago just to see what it was like. Glad that it's all over at the end of this year. I've learned that the management structure in every store is a completely insane grab for power among a bunch of desperadoes
Missouri reporting in. 2 bedroom apartment is $550 a month. It's a nice apartment though, not some slummy shit. Houses are starting to get over priced though. A house that would've been $50,000 a few years ago is going for (or fuckers are trying to sell it for) $80,000. Shit pisses me off to no end.
>single story 2 bedroom 1 bath bungalow style home
>built in the 70's
>shows pics and the floors are all fucked up
>needs new cabinets
>wouldn't surprise me if the wiring is shot to shit
Fuck I remember my first day of elementary school I did that because I didn't know how urinals worked. Thankfully I saw how it was actually done that same day and never did it again.
One time I went to gamestop and there was a cute grill there, she worked there and she started talking to me about Halo 4, asked her if she had an Xbox and she asked for my gamertag to add me.
>gamertag is the same as all my other social media usernames
>finds my tumblr
>finds out I'm into fashion, photography and I'm also suicidal
>always tries to talk to me about all those things
We still talk, she's 23 now and is starting to lose her looks unfortunately, she keeps asking me to hang out with her, I'm not even attractive, I'm ugly.
I remember purchasing PDF from Gamestop a while back. I don't know why but while waiting in line I got extremely nervous and by the time I was at the counter my legs were visibly shaking. I tried my best to hide it but I think it was useless as I knew there was someone behind me. Probably thought I was retarded or something.
After that I pretty much stick to ordering stuff online.
Things like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxW36e6XMOY happen because of people like you. You have responsibilities you know. Think of all the crimes and accidents that happen because you're too careless to do what you're being paid for
It's my all-time favorite show. It's a damn good show even if season 1 is casual filter
Ive never WTF'd so hard in life, including shock vids and shit. hilarious tho
>Work in IT
>Good at it
>Good wage for my age
>Steadily advancing career
>Realise I never see any real end result beyond maybe a quick thanks from the client
>All businesses see IT as an expenditure, not an asset
>IT staff seen as required extras rather than genuine employees
>Realising nearly everyone in IT is arrogant as fuck
>Nobody I talk to understands my work
>No girls in the industry
>Want to get a history degree, but know there's no career in it
>Would rather shoot myself than work retail
Thinking about how unfulfilled I'll be at 70 is like watching my life be wasted in extreme slow motion.
I've been considering it since I love the subject and most of my favorite teachers and professors have been history majors. It's either that or English since I can write pretty good essays but really I just want to be a teacher
thanks anon. I'm going to dump whatever Office pics I have
>Spend 6 years in a combined Intermediate & High School Boys-Only school.
>Enter Uni for Electrical/Computer Engineering.
Women? You mean those rumoured things? What are they like?
1) I'd rather OWN the game store, than work in it.
2) 7 to 12 dollars per hour quite frankly ain't shit, after a certain age. At least once you finally get sick of living weekend to weekend and counting pennies in your "beer run jar".
Or even needing a "beer run jar" for that matter.
Also this happened in 1999. Shit like this wouldn't happen in modern America. Almost a 99% guarantee he'd have a phone on him these days and could call someone within like 20 minutes. You don't really hear shit about people getting stuck in elevators in first world countries anymore. If you do it's always for like 1 or 2 hours tops and someone comes to get them.
I've been called a soft 7 so who knows and many who told me so said I have "untapped potential"
wow I feel like a piece of shit now since I can't find the rest of my office stuff. Sorry anon I have failed
I started cringing so hard when I opened this thumbnail that I kicked my dog in the ribs and stopped reading
just a heads up if you have zero sales experience they wont take you or even consider you. they dont give a fuck about your "video game knowledge" dispite being a video game store. they just give a fuck if you can sell shit.
Certifications. Getting a CS degree is hilariously overrated, what you really need are industry certifications.
There's not much way around starting from the bottom, either.
Desktop support and call centre bitch are the two starter positions, from there gain certs and experience for applications, sysadmin, networking (hope you like cisco). web dev, whatever.
Start general, specialise as your career develops. Don't be afraid to ditch your company for another if you feel stuck or stalled; turnover in IT is usually pretty high anyway, and tech requires you to be constantly learning new skills.
Literally the only reason I earn money is for living. I'm not a money loving kind of guy. I don't like driving expensive cars, owning expensive things, living in expensive houses, or traveling. I earn more than enough money to live and most of my excess goes to new games and a savings account I'm holding on to if I ever have kids.
Last time I walked into a GameStop was to buy a controller, I'm pretty sure the female cashier working there thanked me for not being a giant sperg.
I genuinely feel sorry for every woman who has to work there.
doing this at the moment
theres no internet but i can spend all night watching the TV, reading books, watching shows and films on my laptop, or playing vidya
pay sucks and theres no prospects but its pretty comfy
be homeless for 3 months,
get into transition home
ask gubment for depression bux
enjoy never getting off the wild ride because they just don't care enough
oh and I'm in canada by the way
I make $646 per month
rent is $400
services are $136~
Student loans at $100
I get a woopin $10 at the end of the month
I get my food from food banks
>Dream job is to work at a video game store
>imagine giving out tips for games and showing customers how to beat parts
>Playing video games in-between serving customers
>play games before they are even released
I cringe every time i think back to that.
nigga did you try converting the currency?
that's a little under $500US
I'm poor as fuck man
>tfw have to live in the ghetto
>tfw doesn't really matter because you're in canada and the ghetto just means natives
>I won't go over to the Illinois side since Illinois is like a third world country.
Just stay out of the suburbs surrounding Chicago and stay out of most of southern Illinois and it's generally fine. Seriously though, stay out of the suburbs of Chicago, it's like testing your luck if you're going to die that day or not.
I'm 28, been in IT since leaving school. No degree. Experience + certifications > everything else.
Cisco certs are good shit, you should do fine. Make a point in the cover letter/interview that you're flexible; in IT you're pretty much expected to pull bits of overtime or come in sometimes at short notice if shit hits the fan.
>not being a doctor
i knew you guys were fuck ups but really
I do though.
I'm an assistant manager, manager in training for a locally owned used Vidya chain, with a couple locations in the city, and that's it.
We sell shit as far back as the Magnavox Odyssey, and recent stuff too.
We get all of our consoles, accessories, and games through trading or buying off shitheads who come to us. We're basically just a video-game pawn shop.
On slow days, I'm free to grab some shit off the walls and play it until a customer needs help.
It's a really chill job, and most of my employees know their shit. And they're not autistic hamplanets or anything.
My only real complaints are the fucking shitters coming in to sell me their loose copy of Monopoly on the genesis, and bitch me out when I effectively tell them it's not worth the plastic it's fucking made of.
No he couldn't. In retail you're encouraged and meant to stand by and let the customer do whatever. Anything bad that happens is meant to be handled by the security systems in place and the police.
Back when Gamestop was called EB Games, I used to fuck the only female coworker in the back room from time to time. She was a pretty good fuck actually, and it was a nice job perk.
It's an alright job, much more hauling of boxed from A to B but unlike working in Videogames or consumer electronics retail you really do not have to lie to consumers.
Even when I sell something like Magic or Warhammer. You can really just be honest with the customer and say that you can go way overboard and spend boatloads of money if you want. Usually people are somewhat informed when they ask for Tradingcards or Tabletop and to normal parents you can just sell normal boardgames and they will be happy.
Meanwhile in my local Best Buy equivalent I would have to sell prebuilt PCs that I know have shit tier parts and are not suitable for videogames.
It's over-glorified retail. Getting to occasionally see a qt nerdy girl who has seen miles of dick and doesn't really want to talk to you isn't worth putting up with the shit retail pushes on you.
This desu. I'd rather work at a boardgame store than a vidya store. It's too bad that all of the stores here are owned by a tight group of friends and/or family so getting a job at one is more or less impossible.
>people still buy physical
I'm stunned, really. The internet gives me countless opportunities to avoid people. It's faster, more convenient and usually cheaper. Did I mention you don't have to deal with people?
>actually work at a video game store
>it's nothing like the fantasy
>have to deal with clueless soccer moms who get angry over a game's content
>chads who only buy sports games or the latest Call of Duty
>autists who never buy anything but browse for hours and try to strike up a conversation once they're done
I know that feel
I wok at some anime shop
I have literally 0 interest in anime and I do the job cause its easy and 80% of the time I just play games at work or watch the internet.
Honestly this fucking weeb shit always keep starting to talk about there anime shit and asking me if I watched and after I tell them I don't watch anime he just keeps talking to himself and what character he loves the most.
>and after I tell them I don't watch anime he just keeps talking to himself and what character he loves the most.
that is a true sign of actual autism right there
and those types of autists in particular should be thrown in camps.
like, if you're too spergy to recognize "I don't watch/play/whatever" means "stop talking about that" then there's just no hope. That shit could be figured out by really simple training, even, not exactly a complex social interaction
>asking me if I watched and after I tell them I don't watch anime he just keeps talking to himself and what character he loves the most.
I have a friends that does the same. Also played w3 rpgs, a lot of mmorpgs and mobas.
I haven't talked to him in years but I suspect he's still doing the same
If by crazy popular, you mean forced to close due to lack of business
The venues were bad and the drinks were ludicrously expensive
>we're just buying and selling madden and nba from niggers.
These are things that have happened to me in retail, and I 100% guarantee it's similar experience for any job and probably Gamestop is even worse, based on their jewy sales model and shit client base.
It's a two-sided coin of suck, too, coming from the management and the customers.
>anon you didn't meet your quota of flash drives/snickers bars/butt plugs/whatever low cost thing we've jacked the price up 10000% that no one comes here to buy, yes we know you're top in sales but we're going to have to write you up
>Anon we're going to "profit share," for each group of 50 flashdrive/buttplug combos you sell we'll give you $1! Isn't that awesome!
>Anon great job! We can't promote anyone for 6 months, so here's a certificate for nothing, I'm sure you'll frame it.
>Anon good news! We can finally promote you! What's that? In those 6 months you're now qualified for manager? Well we can't promote anyone who has just been promoted for 6 months! (this one made me quit)
The customers are just as fucking dumb in retail.
>I DEMAND TO SEE A MANAGER, I'M RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT! FUCK YOU PRICK!
>Customers that know nothing and get angry if you explain things
>Customers that are troglodytes and trash the place
>Customers that sperg out on you and force you to have a conversation with them when you're not interested/busy
>being written up for the most petty bullshit
I had a guy talk to me for 30 minutes about a anime girl that he hates because she is evil on some other character in the anime.
In this 30 moments I almost said nothing and was just charging the normal customers. while he was standing in-front of me and talking.
and surprisingly its alaway the guys who act like this the females they usually just buy things or ask normal questions about products.
My boss did actually kick 1 guy out cause he started to throw a tantrum that we aren't selling untranslated Japanese, my boss explained him that it isn't profitable for us and it would cost much time to do something like that.
I had shit tons of such stories from weebs.
welfare. Your company is the largest welfare queen in America. Friendly reminder if you don't support living wages in this nation then you support subsidizing companies like WalMart in the form of having to pick up the slack so our fellow Americans don't starve.
>I had a guy talk to me for 30 minutes about a anime girl that he hates
>In this 30 moments I almost said nothing
Yeah, that sounds exactly like my friend. He's a good friend aside from that
Yeah that sounds pretty shit, I've only worked at smaller shops where we haven't had problems like that. I really like helping customers but if I had to try to sell them shit they don't want I'd probably end up hating myself.
I fucked up my job at gamestop cause of memes.
A few years ago the assistant manager and myself were talking about Halo remembering the glory days of Halo 2 / 3 and all the fun shit. Then he started to go on about how he was legit in the MLG league. I tried to stop myself, but I started to laugh like a maniac and he got really pissed off and stopped talking to me. The next few weeks I had less and less hours till they called me and said to not come in anymore.
fuck you mlg parody videos
Same here. Working (for free until I was 16) for my dad since I was 14. No degree, I'm 27, but I come from South america.
Currently head of the IT department of the company I work for.
You will. It's mainly a gathering spot for hipsters, game design students and overall casual normies.
Oh and they constantly stream League of Legends/Twitch garbage on their big screen.
the food is pretty decent desu tho
Fuck off, my family actually owns one, and that is sometimes they're exact shifts.
Plus, dealing with shitty customers is another deal breaker.
0lus behind the scenes shit you constantly have to deal with.
And fixing equipment.
>new game store opens
>pay it a visit
>ask what arcade sticks they have
>he doesn't know what that is
What are these certifications and how do I get them? I'm currently the 'IT' guy for a small business, and it worries me that beyond the few jobs I've held I have otherwise nothing else to put on a resume.
I did for a while after HS. It was a small shop.
Shit pay, but the things we got away with were Incredible. If I ever gave you a random discount it was because I was off my gourd. I distinctly remember wearing shades one day while
on mescaline. I kept sliding my hand in a power glove and tried to sell our Virtual Boy in a Kentucky Derby announcer voice.
because I am a video game programmer, and I would like to make enough money to actually keep paying my bills, not take minimal wage working for someone who would can me for a fucking "gamrrrrrrrrrr gurl"
>customer asks for game
>you display some enthusiasm or speak more than one sentence about said game
>they go on for fucking ever about the game
The best on a rainy day:
>female coworker working same shift
>get to laugh at shitty pickup lines
>get to intercept overly thirsty customers and have fun
tfw I fucked a coworker in the back after closing
Do you have any weirdo regulars?
>Work in Game
>Same obese neckbeard comes in every single day at 1pm on the dot
>Always browses for like 30 minutes even though the stock has rarely much changed
>Buys something (always pre-owned) like once a month
>Always, every single time starts trying to have a conversation about whatever anime he is watching while paying
Because I actually like and am somewhat knowledgeable about video games.
Man, the whole customer base is strange.
>mountain of a guy that never buys shit but always wants to talk about vidya
>young loud guy that constantly wants 'gory' games, comes in on Friday and loves the xbox consoles
>average guy that turned out to be a turbo weeb once I mentioned knowing a certain anime
>young chubby girl that comes in full cosplay every now and then, specifically waits until I'm free to ask for stuff and stutters when we talk
>old guy that wanders in every month to say some indecipherable shit and play his harmonica
>old retired guy that comes in just to rant about China
>average guy that turned out to be a turbo weeb once I mentioned knowing a certain anime
Shit. It's all good, just catch me on a slow day and I'll talk about animus. I only get irritated at guys that can't notice social cues, etc. If the phone is ringing or I have new customers expect me to not listen for a while.
>america will only get EPIC video game reference restaurants
>there will never be capmcom restaurants in america during the time of the monster hunter X US launch, and eat well done steak
I work in receiving at walmart currently. Copies of Fallout 4 just rolled in. What do you think is the most effective Way to steal copy without getting caught /v/?
Nigga you must work at Target if you call people "guests"
>tfw where I live almost every job is minimum wage
>even when I graduate I'll only make slightly above minimum
>there's far more unemployed people than jobs available
>have to compete with people who have loads of experience for an entry level position
I don't want to move, I love this place but I don't think I'll be able to make it here
>>Anon great job!
I'm a bit confused about this one
Did they say the certificate didn't count for a promotion so they could get away with paying you less and then they decided to retroactively make that certificate valid months as a promotion for a posistion that isn't manager, so they could get another six months or so of paying you as whatever new posistion you would have been given instead of a manager?
Because when I went there for Work Experience the staff were assholes/autists/elitist pricks seemingly changing every day and the customers were either dumb as fuck adults or bratty kids or fucking betas that would constantly try to strike up a conversation about their favourite shitty anime game instead of getting to the fucking point about what they wanted...maybe it's better working there when you're not made to do all the shitty jobs by the staff because you're basically a volunteer slave for two weeks...but fuck...
I've worked at a Gamestop for 2 years now. Ask me anything.
I also worked on Halloween and went as Big Boss. No one recognized me.
Favorite thing is occasionally you get to talk to an actually pretty cool person about games. Not everyone who comes in has extreme autism, sometimes they are decent.. Once or twice I wound up playing smash or MH4 with someone I met at work earlier.
If you work in the right (disorganized/messy/bad management) store for it and are careful, it's also tremendously easy to steal shit. So free games I guess.
I would except for some major issues.
>shit customer base
>even salaried jobs are shit
Unless you own your own, there's really no future in it, nor is it a real career choice.
Get a friend to come into the store and buy a game. Have him complain that the disc wasn't in it. Go to the back to look for a replacement and put a Fallout 4 disc in the case.
>shit customer base
very much this. I couldn't tell you how many fat showerless morons would come in and attempt to "out video game trivia" my fellow employees and I for the sole sake of trying to justify why they deserved to work there and we didn't.
The worse thing it was entry level quotes from wikipedia.
I remember this one guy out and out sperged when I and my manager said we both preferred different final fantasy games to VII.
Take if from someone who's worked in 2 bakery jobs. It's not as fun as you think and the "cute french girls" you'll be working with are more often 50+ fatass women (the type of person who actually eats the stuff she bakes) or ex degenerates who are there because they can't get a better job with no high school diploma and needle scars up and down their arms.
Let him dream of the fantasy baker's life.
>Waking up early to break the bread
>Opening the store and getting the fresh hot bread out of them oven
>spend the day decorating cup cakes
>All the customers are happy for the bread and cakes and appreciate the craftsmanship you put into it
>Closing down the store in the afternoon and eating the left over cookies
...wat. I pay $850 a month for a 3 bedroom house with a full backyard, garden and enclosed front porch. That's including all utilities except internet and cable. My city's about 40k pop in the midwest.
It is impossible to get an entry-level customer service job here unless you are a somewhat attractive female or know someone. The cost of hiring is so high that the average Joe has no chance.
Fuck I had completely forgotten that Dunn had died. I think I might watch the old CKY videos today
Because I have bills and rent to pay and don't want to work 50+ hours a week at min. wage dealing with corporate bullshit and autists just to break even.
Fuck, waiting tables is more dignified than working at a game store. Being a janitor is more dignified than working at a games store. Anything is really.
Damn man, everybody talking about jobs is really getting me stressed, especially the people who are making 40k+ without an education. Gonna be graduating this year with an Econ Degree.
HOW DO PEOPLE GET HIGH PAYING JOBS
Oooh budgets thread
475 rent (its an efficiency)
30-60 electric (lower in winter, higher in summer)
120 car insurance
55 phone bill
everything else I make is gas/game money
