Why do I keep seeing this complaint pop up every time? You can't "stylize" real actors by giving them beefy CGI Popeye arms and not have the movie look ridiculous and stupid. Seeing that would be some serious uncanny valley shit.
Because a full-CGI movie would never sell. It probably would never get the funding from Universal in the first place.
I honestly think if Lothar's actor wasnt "rugged, handsome, Hollywood-gorgeous" and was instead a mangled, balding old man, we'd get a very different impression.
so this is how EA is going to make back those Billions spent of Candy Crush
kinda excited i guess. im betting the the story will be shit, but that it will be fun to watch anyway. gonna be overloaded with cgi, sure, but if there is one thing blizz has always done right its cgi so i have high hopes for that aspect.
idk, im more interested in this than the new star wars or ghost busters.
Looks horrible visually desu
Still pretty exited though
That scene looked like some awful greenscreen trash. But I really liked this dire wolf. The designs of the creatures so far look pretty tight.
Horde = righteous Americans conquering the new frontier
Stormwind = Indian savages dying like the heathens they are
Yeah. Most theaters have a No Singles policy.
Last time I went by myself, I saw two friends who poked fun at me for going alone thinking I was just waiting for someone. I didn't correct them. Apparently it's seen as weird.
As someone who was close to the lore of the original Warcraft 1-2 games I'm wondering how close they will actually follow it. I know the orcs were changed, but it makes sense following how Warcraft 3 retconned them already.
All I know is this movie isn't going to end happy for the humans.
>Chris Metzen ... (story and characters)
It's not that far fetched. The orcs were pretty okay with pillaging the Night Elves and their forest in WC3. This was before Grom drank the demon blood, though it was what lead to it.
>i havent been to a movie theater in 10+ years...is it weird to go to the movies alone?
No? Though if the movie turns out to be mediocre (which looks probable) you'll probably have more fun if you can find a few bros, or hell even just one or two other half-way decent fans to go with. Mediocrity is always somewhat more enjoyable when you can shit-talk about it with others who went through the same ordeal afterwards.
Also, if you haven't been to a movie theater in a while (for me up until some friends invited me a few months back it had been around 8 years) know that these days there are some actual good theaters around in some places. Not everywhere, but if you live somewhere reasonably dense (or nearby a city or whatever) there's a decent chance there is a upper scale theater with:
- actual good screens
- actual decent full recline electronic control lots of space seating
- serve real food and drinks
- no babies/kids allowed
They cost more but it's irrelevant for people like us who go once in a blue moon, if you're going to go out at all better to pay $20 rather then $6 and actually have a good experience rather then be stuck with the noisy, stinking plebs.
True. I don't think the movie is going to bomb. I just don't know if it's going to be 'critically' accepted. Or you know... Good.
I'll watch it and hope for the best.
I do think that, if the franchise goes into Warcraft III territory, they should make it a TV series.
Well there had to be some kind of sympathy made for the Orcs as they aren't completely evil like the orcs in Lord of the Rings, where they were created only for war. At least from what I remember, I may be wrong.
>tfw it's gonna take years, if ever, until we see the first night elf chicks
Nobody likes Night Elves anymore.
>originally popular because blue skinned amazons with tits
>lost the amazonian tits and became Disney mook tier in WoW
>only thing they had going for them was #nightelfmohawk
>consistently shat on ever since Mr.T stopped promoting Night Elves
WoW's story was scattered out through factions and way too complicated to make into a movie.
Warcraft 1's story is short and consistent enough to make into a movie.
The players themselves were pretty much the heroes of that story, and translating that into a movie would be easier said than done.
Make hulk hogan play every human male in the movie desu
ARE YOU READY TO KILL SOME HORDE BROTHER.
>Metzen said the movie will take liberties
So, they have Brown Orcs and Green Orcs in the same trailer. Does this mean that the Frostwolf are going to be the nice ones while the rest of the clans are straight nigger orcs like usual?
>What works in comics and video games doesn't work in movies. Movies have their own culture they have to follow if they want to be successful.
Indeed! It's like poetry. Warcraft is so dense, every single frame has so many things going on.
>writing an entire book to set up the Frostwolves as the good guy orcs just for the movie
>It's the First War
>Not the Second War where humanity is pushed to the brink of destruction by the Orcs, and it's only by the combined might of the Northern Kingdoms + Quel'thalas with Terenas, Uther, Lothar, and motherfucking Proudmoore do they stave off the Orcish hordes.
>It's not the Third War whose plot we've all come to know and love, focusing on the student-teacher betrayal story between Uther and Arthas, as the latter plunges everything humanity has stood for into chaos and destruction.
The First War sucks dick. Here's a summary:
King Llane dies. Medivh has to be hunted down in a D&D session. Orcs overrun Stormwind and are literally drinking blood from human skulls. Anduin Lothar has to slink off to the north after the Kingdom of Stormwind is practically overrun.
Let me know when they recreate Lordaeron in a CG movie.
You're missing the TRUE INJUSTICE anon! You see, the truth is that Medivh was actually trans, and all the cis-gendered oppression ze constantly faced made zers deeply wounded. Words can be violence too anon! That's why the orcs were called, because the demons & orcs at least could accept someone a bit different! They came to help the white cis overlords learn to be better and more accepting!
Just you wait.
Elves and Dalaran Mages get front row seats.
filthy Lordaeron, Gilneas and Alterac peasants sit in the back.
Dwarves and Gnomes not even invited, no midgets allowed to in King Lane's presence
Yeah, WC1 was primitive as hell. Although in fairness, if you actually read all the original lore they did back then (I still have my WC & WC2 books), particularly in the second game book, it wasn't bad and I could see a solid movie being made out of it in an alternate world where Metzen was long dead and WoW had never happened either. There's cool shit and drama to be had in a fighting withdrawal and the initial drama and demon shit and so on that set the table. The original Orcs were scary and relentless as fuck.
But obviously they're not going to do it that way.
Thats not the movie summary though
>Orcs are a people destined for greatness with conflicting parties and interests
>They unite behind the noble cause of exploring and conquering new worlds
>A wise wizard named Medivh helps them enter Azeroth, guided by the great revolutionary hero Sargeras
>The humans selfishly cling to their lands and use underhanded and dishonorable strategies to fight the orcs like aerial warfare, guerilla warfare, and turning Garona against her own kind
>the orcs eventually triumph over the warmongers in their own nation, turn the king's own plot against him and assassinate him, then overcome the evil plots of the humans and successfully expel them from Azeroth
It will be a great movie
Warcraft 1 was kind of made on the fly since it was originally going to be a warhammer game. Blizzard pretty much just threw together a fantasy setting. They fleshed it out much more in Warcraft 2.
It's why Metzen says there's going to be some liberties. Warcraft 1 lore was pretty bare.
Don't post skinny Hogan, post the roided up Hulkamania Hogan
>it's only by the combined might of the...
Not even close
Doomhammer's Horde was just about to sack Lordaeron when he was betrayed by Gul'dan who took two whole clans and just fucked off to go die in the Tomb of Sargeras.
I'm so glad I emotionally divested myself of all things Blizzard after BlizzNorth was killed and SC2 came out. If I still gave a shit about them I'd probably be pretty bummed by this whole thing rather then extremely entertained.
Some theaters started it after the batman shooting. I guess the logic is a psycho would NEVER bring a friend to help. Because you know, Columbine was a lone shooting, it wasn't 6 friends working together.
It wasn't bare as of WC2 though, by that point there'd be plenty enough to hang a decent start to a trilogy on, assuming you had halfway decent writers (insert long silence here). I'm not worried about stuff getting fleshed out, but when Metzen says "liberties" I'm pretty sure he means changing the entire fucking motivations and drama around entirely, or doing head bangingly dumb shit because it's "deep" or whatever.
I don't get people who think it's weird to go see a movie by yourself, it's a place where being social is actively discouraged.
I was unemployed for a while last year and I would go in the morning midweek and have the whole theatre to myself. Comfy as fuck.
He would have to change motivations and drama for the sake of it being a movie. Lord of the Rings was changed pretty dramatically for the sake of presentation. As was Harry Potter.
Like the scene when Harry's name is put into the goblet of fire for example.
I fucking love gryphons and will see it just for that.
I don't think they hated eachother during the Megapowers. They weren't exactly best friends though.
Macho Man hated Hogan so much he made a rap song about him
Can't believe nobody pointed this piece of trash out yet
>IS THAT MEDIVH BY THE KING!?
no it's Khadagar, Medivh is the antagonist.
They should just make a movie about interspecies romance between a male hahan and female panda
Even before Gul'dan's betrayal, Doomhammer's naval campaign was crushed due to the dwarves and Kul Tiras getting involved in the war. Lordaeron would have been sacked, but he was fighting a losing battle in the long run.
that chunk of people sitting down looks like it was a photoshop crowd straight out of forza
Moon was pretty shit desu. It's entire schtick was a tweest you could easily guess the moment the second Edward Norton appeared.
Then you keep watching, expecting something tweesty to happen or to make more sense but then.. it ends.
Like jerking off furiously and putting your cock away letting it go limp before you bust a nut.
Are those Garona's parents?
>all those conflicting shadows and green screen auras
Did they really pull off a fucking circle of life with Thrall's birth? Jezus Christ, Metzen you fucking hack.
You have to understand Metzen and the artists have a boner for piercings and have no idea what to do to make anything look suitably "wild" otherwise.
This is why orc are to piercings as the 40k Imperium is to skulls.
To be honest, the plot of the First War almost identically matches the Second War, just that Humans canonically lost in the First War. Keep in mind this is when Blizzard didn't even realize Warcraft was going to be a multiple series game, and Warcraft 1 actually had two endings depending on who you played. So, technically, they COULD do the Second War first, but you know lore faggots would crucify them for it.
I expect lots of WoW dank memes, because most WoW players have no idea what the fuck WC1/WC2 are.
Chris Metzen is single-handedly the reason why I quit WoW. Time travelling Orcs who dindunuffin did it in for me. I actually really like Garrosh, but they decided he had to die by Thrall Jesus's hand when it WAS Thrall's fault all along, as much as he wants to moralfag his way out of it.
The one and only, though I mostly lurk WoW threads. People still holding grudges in a video game 4-5 years after I stopped playing it and bring it up in anonymous image boards. wew lads.
While Lordaeron itself was mostly Lordaeronian defenders because Doomhammer took them by surprise, the actual armies of the Alliance (of the Second War) were motley crew style armies with soldiers from every kingdom. They were lead by Anduin Lothar and others.
Then why is Moon good? As I said, it's entire plot is a twist you can easily guess a 1/3rd of the way through the movie. Also it's a twist that's been done to death anyway (hence why it's so easily guessed).
The rest of the movie is the movie trying to pretend it's a big deal when I was sitting there expecting something to happen. Ergo, it's not a good movie, it blew its load too fast and too predictably, and even had the cheek to use not!Hal9000
it's not even that the CG is bad, it's just that the actors are lit fucking awfully in the green screen. like holy shit that lighting doesn't match at all
at some point you maybe shouldve given up with the CG and make the scene fit the lighting so that shit like this doesn't stand out
just look at the kids on the right
that looks worse than those 2D cardboard cutouts they use in catalog photos for housing that's under construction
Nothing to do with the armor, it's the fact that they're pretty much pixel perfect copies spaced perfectly apart from eachother. They look like suits of armor that were put there, not knights wearing armor.
I hope it'll lead to more elf porn
Why the FUCK is my 4chan advertising a fucking leddit documentary? REEEEEEE
Just because we don't see gnomes or dwarves in the trailer doesn't mean their technological advances don't serve any influence in the Warcraft universe. Hell in the Westfall shot with the orcs you can see a harvest golem in the distance. Simple technologies like combustion propelled projectiles is not far fetched in a universe like this since it's not suppose to draw parallels to real world advancement where magic and other intelligent species with a culture that centers itself around engineering.
thats the best though you dont have to worry about how you behave around someone you know and you get to pick the best seat available and you can book late because of all the empty seats between groups of people
>tfw there's something like 1/4 as much WoW porn being made as there used to be
That's when you know things have gone south.
They don't look damaged
Also they're guarding the king (?), you don't get busted armor for standing around and guarding all day.
At least they have different posing, head and legs etc
stop being a nitpick on details you probably wont notice while watching the actually movie
Atm you're just over analyzing a 15 second trailer teaser over and over
Oh boy this is gonna be one huge piece of shit
Bullshit, even taking the demon blood drinking into consideration, the orcs committed atrocities and let down the spirits of their ancestors (the ghosts did NOT take well to Ner'zhul ordering the near-genocide of the Draenei).
The only orc has has literally done nothing wrong is Thrall, and that's purely because he's written for the universe to revolve around him. Even Saurfang slaughtered children in his youth, something he has regretted since ("I don't eat pork").
But I play Alliance, I just don't like bullshit spreading when it's on stuff that isn't true.
If a Warcraft 3 movie ever happens(doubt it) I REALLY REALLY want them to make it 2 movies.
The first ending with Arthas killing the king. The 2nd with the end of the Frozen Throne.
>b-b-but muh elves and Archimonde
Literally no one gives a shit
That's part of it, but the sad truth is just that there's way less people involved, both from a creation and demand standpoint.
Shit sucks... Least we had a good run.
>Genetically prone to mental illness
>doesn't factor in that guns would easily prevent Horde from remotely becoming a threat when the entire point of the Iron Horde was having equal technology to Azeroth
I haven't played WOW since WOTLK and I'm excited. I gotta get past that city level in WC3 where you have to burn shit IIRC. Tough
Jaina's the only one with mental illness.
Daelin was the rightest man in Azeroth
Blizzard is hoping this will boost WoW subs aren't they?
I'm gonna watch this movie just to fucking sit and eat popcorn while laughing my ass off at how terrible it is, and how awful just the idea is that you would make a fucking movie out of warcraft, a god damn children's RTS/MMO
Main Alliance character in this is Varian's daddy isn't it?
I can't suggest anything, I'm not an artist. It's not my bloody job to design wild and barbaric orcs that don't overuse piercings all the time. Let the people who are supposed to be "experts" at this shit do their fucking job ay?
>paying to watch Alliancefag: The Movie
No thanks. It's enough dealing with Blizzard giving them the best pvp racials in-game, just to force people to play those boring races, I'm not paying to go see a movie about those assholes too.
I mostly gave up on Moon Guard. Backed out of the server forums once the shit got so bad they moved to Tumblr. Thought you guys and the League were one of the good eggs though.
Considering there are orcs in snow, there might be combining of First and Second War stuff.
I'm not AGAINST it as such. I just think that, for artists with their amount of experience, they could try something different or know of more means of achieving the same goal to spice things up.
Spending years following the same conventions and never really challenging yourself means pure stagnation in any field or quest in life. You can't get better or wiser or more knowledgeable in something if you just find "what works" and repeating it ad infinitum. Otherwise you just end up with a boring look. Like one guy who always draws the same shit. "Oh wow, horses, again?"
That would be even worse, it's like putting Siberia in a background shout of Cape Town.
Dun Morogh would be the Swiss Alps. Still pretty bad, but on a scaled-down world it's not nearly as bad.
he does. Honestly that's one of the worst, most jarring effects I've seen in a long fucking time. Hopefully they still have a lot of post-production left to do with this movie, otherwise it will be Dungeons and Dragons tier, except without a career defining performance from Jeremy Irons.
she was going to murder an entire city of "people"
>They intentionally kept the cartoonish aesthetic
This is what WoWbabbies believe. I hope Blizzard gets their nuts
I have a friend that "shipped" her with Thrall hardcore. They haven't gotten over the fact that it isn't canon yet, salty af.
They're going to milk this into more movies, anon.
Plus think of all the normalfags that are going to watch this, they know nothing of the universe, and even the Second War with no prior information could confuse casuls.
>tfw you used to love the barbaric orcs from wc3
>tfw they kept pushing their noble side to ridiculous proportions making you embarrassed that you ever liked them
>there will be no Male Human x Female Orc shenanigans in this movie
>yfw this becomes the normie movie of the century
>"For The Horde" becomes more than a meme than it already is
>People unironically saying "Zug-Zug"
>"Kek" will undoubtedly have a moment in the movie
This is going to be some bullshit movie about how "Peaceful, civilized Alliances are suddenly attacked by the evul hordes and through their nobility and honor, they nobly thrive and eventually win through impossible odds because of their human perseverance and honor, and nobility!" type of Alliance pandering bullshit. This is Alliancefag: The movie, and 90% of it is going to be watching Alliancefags doing their Alliance thing. You're not fooling anyone.
Worse part is that thanks to this fucking movie, it's not going to be 10 alliances for every 1 Horde in-game, now it's going to be 40 alliances for every 1 Horde player, thanks to easily impressionable faggots who will subscribe to play "knight in shining armor!".
Fuck this movie.
Jesus CHRIST. As much as I love Warcraft lore, our server somehow attracted some of the most narcissistic insecurity-ridden people I've ever met. People who would over react over silly stuff, or conversely try to pull the politically correct card ONLY when it would suit them. The fact that a lot of those people actually had a dedicated tumblr to circlejerk told me some of those people had some serious brain problems.
It still amazes me that Tendael and myself managed to SOMEHOW scrap together a server-wide PvP event that logically lead into the steps of the Theramore Assault before it got nuked and managed to attract hundreds of players for the finale. For once I saw the server united, but it didn't take but more than a month later when many of the groups that helped form that event broke down. Always because of personal OOC bullshit, or some stupid 10 year long grudge one guild leader had with another. People who would argue over semantics on the lore (whether the Church was based off Catholicism or a more Protestant approach) that people were self-identified experts on.
In the end, the only people I saw losing out from all that drama were just the normal roleplayers who enjoyed being on an active server that had a community which drew all the guilds together once and a while.
It still pisses me off to this day that Jaina going crazy after the Theramore nuke didn't have any sort of voice over or reference to her father that she cooperatively MURDERED with her Orc BFFs. It amazes me how in the Warcraft universe where every human/orc has every right to be as racist/xenophobic as possible, Metzen rights every antagonist off as "LE OLD GODS". Garrosh was the only exception and SURPRISE: was the best Orc character we've had in forever.
it's your fault for still playing WoW
This hit me right in the feels, seeing that harvest golem wants me to grind westfall again!
You're jokinh, right?
The Alliance are The Police.
Horde are Mace Dindus.
"Journalists" are going to draw so many racial parallels that aren't there it won't even be funny. It's not funny. America is shit. England has no identity.
Activision buying Candy Crush is World News.
Wiping out that one city would end the war in one swift stroke, ending the orc race on Azeroth, returning Kalimdor to the Night Elves, and consigning the Forsaken to an inevitable defeat followed by swift extinction. It was a good idea.
Instead, they besieged Orgrimmar, captured Garrosh, let him escape to an alternate reality, and made themselves vulnerable to further planetary invasions.
Focusing only on the Arthas' side of things would be the best.
IF it gets really popular(which it wont) they could do a "B side" of the movies, with the whole invasion schnack.
looks fucking brilliant whats the problem? going to destroy your beloved hobbit franchise? going to bend over your beloved hunger jew games franchise? sorry anon time for you to bend over
Why couldn't it be down to earth action?
I understand that it's high fantasy and there's going to be some crazy magic and some need for suspension of disbelief BUT
Why the fuck does that guy need to be so magically acrobatic? It's hard for me to suspend my disbelief when half the characters are 10/10 acrobats. I hate this overly hollywood action in high fantasy. They don't go together
In high fantasy I want to see heavy fuckers lugging around in gnarly equipment.
Similar to why the star wars prequels light saber duels are so bad. I can't relate to your fancy over the top fighting. I just want to see two dudes try not to get cut open while they wave their swords around.
>Blizzard giving them the best pvp racials in-game, just to force people to play those boring races
>thanks to this fucking movie, it's not going to be 10 alliances for every 1 Horde in-game, now it's going to be 40 alliances for every 1 Horde player
T-thanks, Blizzard... I g-guess.
Warcraft the Beginning: Warcraft 1
Warcraft the Rise of Darkness: Warcraft 2: the Tide of Darkness
Warcraft the End: Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal
Warcraft the New Beginning: Warcraft 3 Human Campaign
Warcraft the Exodus: Warcraft 3 Orc Campaign
Warcraft the Final Battle: Warcraft 3 Night Elf Campaign
Warcraft the Triumph of the Lich King: Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne
Warcraft the Vengeance of the Lich King: World of Warcraft
So, like, is Neltharion/Deathwing gonna be the villain of the second movie if they don't stretch the first game out across multiple films?
>"Oh these mongoloid Orks stink of Fel Legion shit(among other shit stinks), I guess I'll take control of them so they can summon Sargeras so he can use the Dragonsoul to free my masters."
And so forth.
I'm going to see this movie on midnight release but it will probably be terrible. Like almost every movie adaptation of something is. Even if the movie is good, do I really want it to be? Do Blizzard games need MORE normies? Normies absolutely ruined Marvel and DC.
Deliberately left out because it'd probably be embarrassing and stupid looking to the viewers.
Most of them are. The brown Orcs comment on how everyone is green when they're summoned to Gul'dans Dark Portal Party.
It was fuckign beautiful, there was culture and it was arguably one of the most violent stories told in WoW's history, literally did a quest where they were executing captives
This is way less interesting than I anticipated
I think the pandaria plot could be nice as a movie.
Give Garrosh a bit more depth in why he does what he does.
Pandas have always been nothing more than decoration in that expansion anyway
Oh yea and fucking garrosh was one of the most beast villains of the franchise, why? BECAUSE HE LITERALLY, LITERALLY. DID NOTHING WRONG! He was made by Thrall and years of conditioning it fucked him up.
I watched this last time you posted and subbed, and last time you posted it you said you could definitely put out videos faster if you weren't lazy, so when's warcraft 2
prolonged exposure to dark magic combined with drinking Mannoroths blood once made them green skins. Drinking it again made them red skins. prolonged drinking of the blood of another Pit Lord makes them red and spikey.
>saw the poster for Warcraft an it immediately reminded me of Vikings
>it actually is ragnar
Haha holy shit.
The moment I saw it I thought the same. What the fuck where they even thinking?
it is. and you wanna know how you can tell. it isn't because of the actors face. its because of the viking warpaint he has one. and that makes no fucking sense he's a Knight not a barbarian why is Anduin Lothar wearing warpaint?
He did plenty wrong. It's just he was pushed into becoming what he is. He actually tried Diplomacy first, and it would have worked if he wasn't being sabotaged by the Twilight Hammer. In the end, force was the last option.
Vol'jin was actually kind of a dick.
No that def. is a Harvester. Why it isn't running around and killing low level orcs is beyond me though. True about the brownies though, what the fuck Activision?
I wish they made a story fully based on Warcraft 3 RoC and TFT.
Tried diplomacy?! Are you fickle!? fuck me!
His version of diplomacy wasn't even trying desu, thats why he got fucked over and ran all over like the bitch he was. Then you got people like Jaina who are the real villains running aorund on their reds keking kings and shit wtf
>Turning orcs into a race of dindus and the alliance into war hungry evil fucks
>Duncan Jones is going to suicide his career on on a massive video game movie flop after he has only made 2 major films
Good job, Duncan. I hope you're proud of Moon and Source Code enough to have them be your epitaph in the film industry.
To be fair, this is the kind of stuff that's usually done absolutely last for a movie. Smoothing out all the CGI lighting and adding particles and crap. There's still a few months that they'll be touching it up I'm sure
>mfw If my friends bail out on me on the SW premiere I will probably just wait for it to get on torrents
I mean it's not super wierd but it's more fun to have someone experience it with you, especially if it's something that isn't supposed to be intellectually challenging and covers a hobby you and your friends share.
I think it's agreed that:
-Warcraft and Warcraft 2 are where the stories were at their prime, having dark and epic tales of war and chaos.
-Warcraft 3 focused much more on cliched storylines (almost like how Starcraft is now), but managed to put something entertaining and interesting nonetheless.
-Ain't nobody know where the fuck WoW is going anymore...

>that horribly sad feel when this will never happen
Dwarf women don't come off as very cuddly to me.
Oh fuck I knew half the people in that photo from ages ago. Kinda sad to think they are still playing that game, when I left I wished them so well and best of luck with their hopes and dreams which they seemed so keen on achieving. Almost every one of them was to some extent writing a novel of some sort, which when chatting with them about it the few underlying issues were their lack of commitment (Which their WoW addiction causes) and lack of diversified knowledge to create interesting characters outside of clichés or caricatures.
I really hope if you're out there, guys, you're not still playing that game. So many of you had promise but the one thing holding you back is the pettiness and low literary capability ceiling of MMO environment.
