So this comes out in 3 hours.. anyone hype for it? I love me some rouge-lites
>talking about new vidya is automatically shilling
I just checked out what the game itself actually looks like.
Holy shit, they are trying to sell this thing on concept art alone without ever showing you. And that makes sense when you see the discrepancy of quality.
I am actually wondering this myself, fuckers nearly tricked me.
>Half story-driven tactical RPG
It's not purely a rogue-like. Did you even read the description? And no self-respecting story-driven game is using procedurally generated worlds.
Go shill somewhere else.
So a couple of days ago, Dragon Fin Soup had a release trailer featuring quotes by Kotaku (something about the world being vibrant and beautiful when it's not trying to stab you in the back) and Polygon ("...it actually feels refreshing to play as a strong young woman who is more scrappy than sexy.") The music was the kind of dubstep and editing you'd expect from an MLG Remix, complete with outrageous bloom effects.
The next day the video was pulled and a completely different one was posted [YouTube] Dragon Fin Soup Trailer 2015 (embed)
Now the game is doing a simultaneous release with Playstation Plus for November and the Kickstarter backers are PISSED that everyone's getting a "free" game off their backing.
I still plan on playing it, I just wish I had a copy of the original trailer to laugh at. They also gave all the Kickstarter Backers a DRM free version
Keep trying m8. I didn't even know what it was before this thread.
Regardless, if you are actually the kind of person who see's a new game you have never heard of on /v/ and your first reaction is cry about shilling you are unbelievably cancerous and I hope you aren't delusional enough to believe otherwise.
inb4 more shill shitposting
>in game model
I want to puke
I really hate everything about what indie games have become. I miss the golden age.
I don't understand, the creators are weeabos, so they put random Japanese symbols around, what is the problem? I clicked the first few games in that steam link and none of them are saying they are Japanese. And it's not like someone is going to be like:
>Hey, this looks like a good game, I will buy it.
>Wait, it's not made by someone from a certain country? Suddenly I don't like it anymore, I have been tricked, refund pls.
That is the thing, they don't say they are Japanese anywhere, at least the first 5 or so games on that list that I saw. And it's not like it makes any difference whether they are or not anyway. This is like getting mad at Mortal Kombat because you saw Raiden and thought it was a Chinese game.
It's pretty much guaranteed the game is not in moonrunes anywhere else except on that title screen, doubt it's even for sale in japong because it's purely english. What are you trying to say anon, that you have no idea what your arguing about?
Lovely Planet was passed around as a jp game. I actually thought it was, since I never played it and everyone simply said so... I just found out now from that curator that it wasn't. Pretty underhanded, since it's clearly trying to grab that "wacky" jp game crowd ala katamari damashii.
>game isn't japanese
>game isn't made by japanese people
>game isn't related to japan in any way
>put game title in Japanese on the logo
>its mostly fucking katakana anyways
why do people do this?
Wut. It looks pretty darned good for indie stuff.
>"JRPG Bundle! No, just another sub-par RPGMaker game from a caucasian. No Japanese involved at all."
What an enormous douche. You don't need to be japanese to make a JRPG, it's a pretty well-defined genre.
Holy shit, just went to the games website and clicked the "About Grimm Bros" section and they have two super edgy portaits above their descriptions.
Ultimate cringe. I can totally see one of them lurking 4chan and defending their game. Real "le tips" material.
Elona, any of the mysterious dungeon games - mainline stuff like shiren and outside of that you got the square spinoffs with chocobo or even that etrian odyssey spinoff, one way heroics, ZHP, God and Fate Paradox.
There's more, but seriously, this game isn't even the prettiest out there.
Except you kinda do.
I don't know why people like to refer turned based gameplay as a Japanese Role Playing Game. Japanese weren't even the first to do turn based, tabletop games and board games were, which didn't even originate in Japan in the first place.
>I don't know why people like to refer turned based gameplay as a Japanese Role Playing Game
Nobody calls fallout or Jagged Alliance JRPG, Do some research about what people call JRPG before saying stupid shit
This game is horrible
The visuals are just so messy it is horrible to look at
The art is sort of cute (and oddly inconsistent in style) but in game it is horrible
The whole no world under your map feels like someone played bastion but didn't get why they could do that (calamity) so it just makes the world seem fucked up
The gameplay is sort of mash and use abilities that not that interesting
The controls feel loose which is really weird for a grid based game
The story is a mess and general dialogue just terrible
I don't know how someone messed up a simple concept so badly
>Controls feel loose
From what little I've seen of the devs talking about the game, this is probably intentional on their end because "WE WANT A ROGUELIKE THAT PLAYS LIKE AN ACTION GAME" and keep touting how fast and fluid everything moves, but in the end you get shit like that which harms the gameplay.
I'm not saying that YOU call every TB game JRPG, I'm saying NOBODY does, the group of people you talk about doesn't exist, nobody calls fallout an JRPG, those people who "call every TB game an JRPG" are obviously using other factor as a metric
