Also, never ever trust a developer when them mention how big their game world is. The most accurate way to measure is to fine one end of the world, and walk to the other at normal walking speed and measure how long it took. Every hour is 3.5 miles.
Most games you can walk across the world in less than an hour but they boast shit like 256 square miles of area or some shit.
It's not hard to be honest, especially with fallout 3 since most of it is literally wasteland with nothing and I mean NOTHING in it, DC is completely copy pasted underground shit with 10 unique vistas at best and millions of invisible walls, New Vegas is by far more open despite the stupid invisible walls, it also has more meaningful content as a whole, it's also cohesive and makes sense both for the world and the setting, the Capital Wasteland has no business being like that in THAT specific year...like...at all.
You meme loving fuck, my point was that bethesda used to make gigantic worlds with nothing in it so a small world could easily mean they are simply compacting it for the sake of not wasting resources giving you hours to walk on nothing, they are doing the skyrim approach with fallout 4, it's a small as fuck world with more proximity dungeons and shit, expect copy pasted vaults instead of dungeons and zombies instead of Draught
>meme gun crafting only has 23 possible combinations >map is less than half the size of daggerfall's, a game THEY MADE IN 1996 >virtually no customization of your own character, nothing matters >only 7 sets of armor >base building is limited to a couple of houses, doesn't do anything for you >no interesting dialogue options >story is short and generic, very little side missions >100% completion in just under 40 hours, only one ending >UI that looks like it was made by a toddler in ms paint >most buildings can't be entered >loot system sucks
All of this has been CONFIRMED by leakers. Surprise, looks like Todd lied about everything, again.
>>315323701 >half the size of Daggerfall Daggerfall was the size of Great Britain you fucking retard. If you weren't talking out of your ass you would know that if that were the case the map would be fucking massive.
>>315323701 >only 23 possible combinations >very little side missions >map is less than half the size of daggerfall's >100% completion in just under 40 hours Are you fucking serious? You're making all this up. I'd really like a fucking source. Not going to believe you until then, because this is all LOW even for Bethesda standards.
>>315324171 >>315324308 I said LESS than half the size, which is even more insulting. I expect improvements over a game made nearly 20 years ago now, especially considering it was the same company who made both games.
>>315324337 Who the fuck said anything about New Vegas? I'm talking about 4, and that includes all types of armor sets besides the meme customization of the power armor which doesn't actually do anything anyways.
>>315324812 If you said less than half the size of something like Oblivion your statement would make much more sense. Saying it's less than half the size of Daggerfall is like saying it's less than half the size of Arena.
>>315324812 Holy shit, do you even read what you bludgeon your keyboard with. How exactly is armor customization a meme? Jesus christ seriously! 7 power armor sets is a hefty amount, considering that new vegas and 3 had less (with dlc) and noone complained then.
>>315323701 >>meme gun crafting only has 23 possible combinations This is fine. Why does every game have to be Borderlands with 1 billion combinations, 90% of which make no real difference? >>map is less than half the size of daggerfall's, a game THEY MADE IN 1996 Games in 1996 also looked like ass. Quality>Quantity >>virtually no customization of your own character, nothing matters Cool source. It's not like the leakers have even found every piece of clothing yet. There is no way you know this for sure >>only 7 sets of armor Armour is Armour, it protects you. Why does it have to be a fucking fashion show? >>base building is limited to a couple of houses, doesn't do anything for you Quite literally what was shown off then you mean? It always looked limited and gimmicky. Beth didn't lie here >>no interesting dialogue options "not interesting" is an opinion, not a fact >>story is short and generic, very little side missions opinion, not fact >>100% completion in just under 40 hours, only one ending gonna need a source for this one >>UI that looks like it was made by a toddler in ms paint It's fine. a little garish, but we'll live >>most buildings can't be entered No shit, nukes killed them
>>315319937 Fuck you, you shitposting liar. I love NV and I think FO4 is gonna be a steaming pile of shit, but you should atleast be honest about it, you nigger.
I lined up the major roads and fit them so they have the same width. Now it's very possible that either game will have different road sizes, but this comparison seems the most fair. NV's playable area is somewhat smaller than FO4's playable area if you subtract the water, but there will probably be mountains scattered around the edges of the map that I'm not accounting for,
>>315325610 Not sorting through 120+ pages of content senpai. And also the fact that they're actually still excited about and circlejerking over the leaks tells me there's practically no negativity in that entire thread. So, nice lies there.
>>315323701 >map is less than half the size of daggerfall's, a game THEY MADE IN 1996 Yes, and also less than 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 etc. because daggerfall was about as big as great britain, which is about 60 times the size of the entirety of massachusetts.
No game that is fully handcrafted will ever be the size of daggerfall for a long, long, fucking long time.
>>315328091 >Huge fucking bay in the middle Gee I dunno. Maybe it's mostly empty space. It's a larger scale than anything this generation can do, simply because it's not an actual "world", like the map on a classic Fallout game. You're just a dot that moves from place to place.
>>315327996 Road map lines are made thick enough so you can see them from this very far away view. There is a chance they are the same, but there is also the chance that the road lines are scaled bigger because the scale of the map is different.
>>315327869 Intersections where four highways meet should cover roughly the same area. Compare the example in the bottom left of the NV map to the one almost due north-west of that on the FO4 map. They're pretty similar, if anything the NV map should be zoomed in even more, meaning the FO4 map is even smaller than it seems.
>>315327869 >You have no idea if the road thickness will be the exact same Road measurements are somewhat uniform, because they all need to accomodate the same cars. the most common road is the 2 way road, going from there is pretty safe to do.
>no real difference what's the real difference whether or not we want more than 23 guns? we just want more guns. not 1 billion, but certainly more than just 2 dozen.
character customization will be ass for most players. not me, because i always went for the dark hair handsome charismatic guy anyway, and he has matching VO now. ok. >why does it have to be a fucking fashion show it doesn't. it just needs to be better. 7 sets of armor is not much, admit it. >beth didn't lie here just by putting it in the e3 demo it hyped people up, making them think there's more to it. it's like, if beth shows the ending cutscene at e3 in its entirety and players then get the game and expect more, it's like, "LEL BETH DIDN'T LIE" you're missing the point. >"not interesting" is an opinion, not a fact sorry bruh, it's fact now. fucking absolutely 0 flavor text in conversations, which was ONE OF THE MAIN PILLARS OF THE SERIES. i bet fallout 5 will be set in pre apocalyptic europe >it's fine. a little garish, but we'll live it's not fine. we won't live. why expect so little from a brand as beloved as this? are you seriously satisfied with what they made? geez, let the mods roll to overhaul 90% of the game. >nukes killed them are you trolling now
>Bethesda does open worlds for decades >suddenly industry chooses to copy them >Bethesda has already moved on to smaller, more compact worlds with more content >meanwhile all the recent "massive open world" games have been blunders Todd is a genius, truly the Steve Jobs of the video game industry.
>>315323098 >my point was that bethesda used to make gigantic worlds with nothing in it and now they make small world, with the same ratio of nothing in it. Just look at the screenshots, if you aren't in the middle of the story event, it's literally empty. Not even mostners in teh ghost town, not a single radscorpion in the wild if it's not a point of interest. All they have to show is that fucking blue car model and houses you can't enter.
>>315329553 i was simplifying language, i know it's about the gun mods. also, from what i remember from the e3 presentation, didn't todd say there were 50 base weapons? does that seem like much to you? NV had like 10-20 in each category
>>315328268 It was originally planned that there was going to be a "Legion side" of the map, but it was cancelled due to time constraints. Such a shame as well, since the intention was to show you how life in the Legion actually looked like, rather than just the military side of things we eventually saw in NV. We would have seen that there are almost no gangs or raiders in Legion territory, people are safe, have access to food and water, and there is no corrupt, bloated bureaucracy. Everything would have been highly efficient, but we would also have seen the brutality involved (slave ownership, harsh punishments for breaking the law, moral policing).
We would have gotten a proper view of both the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion, both the good and the bad. Instead the Legion come off as the obvious "bad guys" and the NCR look like the "good guys" until you start to look deeper into them.
>>315325852 Each single meter of The Witcher 3 was well looked after. Every time I walked from one area to another, even though I already did the same road other times, I'd always find more interesting content.
I can't fucking play open world MMOs anymore because TW3 spoiled me, fuck. It was just too full of carefully planned content.
>>315325796 >This is fine. Why does every game have to be Borderlands with 1 billion combinations, 90% of which make no real difference? Fallout 4 is literally Borderlands with less guns. Defend legendary weapons in Fallout. Go ahead.
>>315329346 >Bethesda has already moved on to smaller, more compact worlds with more content Is that why the Capital Wasteland and Skyrim are mostly empty? There is literally nothing between towns and other points of interest.
>>315323252 It's not even the size that made it boring. Large parts of it consisted of just dull desert with nothing on it. It only confirmed what I'd been already convinced of. Desert setting in an rpg is always boring.
>>315319937 Just a month ago /v/ shit the bed due to MGSV's barren map designs. Bigger isn't necessarily better. I don't even like how fallout 4 is shaping up to be but at least criticize things uniformly...I'm guessing there's no way to even confirm if the OP image is true
>>315336559 it gives me autistic rage that i saw a thousand threads shitting on mgsv's "open world". it's not open world, they never said it would be open world. it has a large open map. that doesnt mean it's an open world game
anyway it's hilarious that they could've put 10000 tiny things scattered in the map and people would exalt it as the richest open world game ever
